The preparation of pure EUO zeolite under conventional conditions usually takes more than three days, limiting the application of the EUO zeolite. It is widely acquainted that the seed-assisted synthesis of zeolites without organotemplates is inexpensive, environmentally-friendly and lead to Al-rich products. However, synthesis with EUO seeds in the absence of organic-templates always leads to the formation of impurity phases. In this work, EUO zeolite (s-EUO) is successfully obtained by seed-directed synthesis without organotemplates. This is the first seed- directed synthesis of pure EUO zeolite with special Al source. Physicochemical characterization results show that the synthesized s-EUO zeolite exhibits high crystallinity and high specific surface area, and contains uniform crystals and plenty acidic sites. The s-EUO crystallization (by this method) occurs in a considerably shorter time (18 h) and in a more mild condition (160 °C, static state), compared to that of the conventional EUO zeolites (c-EUO, 72 h at 180 °C, at rotation) in the presence of organotemplate. Moreover, the catalytic performance of the H-form of the s-EUO zeolite is enhanced to that of the c-EUO zeolite for m-xylene isomerization, confirming the NH3-TPD results.

In the tert-butyl removal reaction, solid acid catalysts have emerged as a preferred alternative to liquid acid catalysts due to their environmentally friendly advantages. Various zeolites, such as ZSM-5, MCM-41, USY, and H beta, as well as mesoporous materials, such as γ-Al 2 O 3 and active clay were employed for the first time to prepare m-cresol through the tert-butyl removal reaction of 4,6-di-tert-butyl-m-cresol (4,6-DBMC). γ-Al 2 O 3 and active clay catalysts were found to have excellent catalytic performance in this reaction. The thermodynamic properties of the tert-butyl removal reaction of 4,6-DBMC were studied. Under different temperature and solvent conditions, the product distribution was investigated. A proposed reaction pathway and mechanism were proposed. And through cyclic experiments, the stability of γ-Al 2 O 3 and active clay catalysts was investigated separately. After six cycles, the m-cresol yield for active clay catalyst was still maintained at about 90%. The causes of deactivation of the two catalysts were analyzed. After regeneration, both catalysts exhibited good regeneration performance. This study offers a basis for the selection of solid acid catalysts for the tert-butyl groups removal of 4,6-DBMC. Esophageal cancer has been regarded as a serious malignancy due to its poor prognosis and high mortality rate. Serine hydroxymethyltransferase 2 (SHMT2) is emerging as an attractive target for esophageal cancer therapy. Compound W478 was identified as a potent SHMT2 inhibitor with an IC 50 value of 1.21 μM, especially whose chemical structure is distinct from the reported SHMT2 inhibitors. Both cellular thermal shift assay and isothermal titration calorimetry experiments showed that compound W478 tightly bound to SHMT2 (K D = 10.6 ± 1.2 μM). The molecular docking analysis revealed its binding at the folate binding site of SHMT2. Moreover, compound W478 exhibited a significant antiproliferative effect on human esophageal cancer cell lines, KYSE-450 and KYSE-70 cells (IC 50 = 1.62 μM, 1.18 μM, respectively). The wound healing and transwell assays showed that compound W478 could inhibit the migratory and invasive potential of KYSE-450 and KYSE-70 cells in a dose-dependent manner. Further studies demonstrated that compound W478 could induce cell arrest at the G2/M phase and promote cell apoptosis and ROS production in KYSE-450 and KYSE-70 cells. These findings indicated that compound W478 could serve as a promising lead compound for the development of SHMT2 inhibitor to address esophageal carcinoma.

For industrial flue gas purification at medium and low temperatures, it is highly necessary to promote the denitrification activity of V-based catalysts in a SO2 atmosphere. Transition metals (Ce, Co, Fe, and Mn) are used to modify V/Ti catalysts to improve SO2 resistance with ammonium bisulfate deposition on the catalysts. Sulfation on Ce with less ammonium bisulfate deposition considerably improves the SO2 resistance of V1Ce5/Ti, and stable sulfation on TiO2 promoted by Co provides additional Brønsted acid sites for V1Co5/Ti to reduce the deactivation. Serious sulfation on V1Mn5/Ti with large ammonium bisulfate deposition on V1Fe5/Ti causes deeper deactivation. The formation mechanism of ammonium bisulfate on active metal sites and TiO2 carriers has been clarified. SO2 is adsorbed on V sites and transition metal sites followed by oxidation and ammoniation or adsorbed on TiO2 carriers followed by ammoniation and oxidation. The first pathway is more dominant than the second pathway in the presence of O2 with the co-oxidation of SO2 by O2 and lattice oxygen. The initial formation temperature and stable temperature of dominant intermediates were determined by in situ DRIFTS. SO2 adsorbed on TiO2 carriers is oxidized by V sites above 170 °C to form a tridentate sulfate, while SO2 adsorbed on transition metal sites is initially oxidized by transition metal sites above 50 °C to form monodentate and bidentate sulfates, as well as competitively oxidized by V sites above 170 °C to form tridentate sulfates. The selective adsorption of SO2 on transition metal sites or TiO2 carriers and the competitive oxidation of SO2 by transition metal sites and V sites provide a synergistic effect between V sites and transition metal sites to reduce ammonium sulfate deposition and release more active sites. These findings provide theoretical guidance to design and prepare V-based catalysts with high denitrification activity in the presence of SO2.

The development of stable, highly active and cheap electrocatalysts towards the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) has been an ongoing challenge due to practical problems such as slow kinetics and high overpotential. Herein, we utilized a one-pot hydrothermal method to prepare cobalt/nickel molybdate hierarchical microflowers on conductive carbon cloth (MMoO4-CC, M = Co, Ni) as three-dimensional self-supported electrodes for the oxygen evolution reaction. CoMoO4-CC showed better catalytic activity than NiMoO4-CC. Benefiting from the synergistic effect of a large active area, fast charge and mass transport as well as a three-dimensional conducting path, the CoMoO4-CC nanosheet electrode showed a large current density and a relatively low starting potential, delivering 10 mA cm−2 current densities at an overpotential of 290 mV and a Tafel slope of 94 mV dec−1. Furthermore, the CoMoO4-CC nanomaterial shows better electrocatalytic stability than IrO2-CCa, which could be a promising electrocatalyst for large-scale water oxidation.

The
anthropogenic acceleration of the nitrogen cycle has exacerbated
nitrate contamination in water bodies, posing threats to both ecological
balance and public health. Conventional physicochemical separation
and biological denitrification technologies suffer from high costs,
secondary pollution, or resource wastage. The electrochemical nitrate
reduction reaction (NO 3 RR) offers a promising route to
convert nitrate into value-added ammonia, combining environmental
remediation with resource recovery. However, its application is hindered
by sluggish multielectron transfer kinetics and competition from the
hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The purpose of this study is to
develop a high-performance NO 3 RR electrocatalyst with precise
regulation of metal ion distribution by EA, to promote the metal-polyphenol
self-assembly system from the perspective of ligand engineering, and
to provide new insights for the rational design of advanced heterogeneous
electrocatalysts. Building on the demonstration that the metal-polyphenol
assembly strategy enhances the catalytic performance of Co 3 O 4 , we further introduced ellagic acid (EA), a small-molecule
polyphenol, to coordinate and self-assemble with transition metal
ions of different valence states (Fe 3+ , Ni 2+ , Cu 2+ ). A series of EA-M/Co 3 O 4 (M
= Fe, Ni, Cu) catalysts was constructed to investigate the effects
of polyphenol molecular structure and metal substitution mode on the
structure and performance of Co 3 O 4 . The results
show that the system exhibits excellent catalytic activity: EA-Cu/Co 3 O 4 achieves a Faradaic efficiency of 96.83% at
−0.3 V vs RHE and an NH 3 yield of 279.43 μmol
h –1 cm –2 at −0.5 V vs RHE.
Furthermore, density functional theory (DFT) calculations elucidate
the NO 3 RR mechanism on EA-Cu/Co 3 O 4 . Cu 2+ doping modulated the electronic structure, enhanced
the adsorption of reactants, and thereby promoted the NO 3 RR process.

Background/objective Bone defects, especially those associated with diabetes, pose a significant challenge due to impaired healing capabilities. In situ bone tissue engineering harnesses the body's innate self-repair capabilities instead of introducing exogenous cells, and the development of biomaterials with well-designed biophysical and biochemical properties is pivotal for this strategy. Oncostatin M (OSM), a pleiotropic cytokine belonging to the IL-6 family, is responsible for recruiting endogenous cells and bone regeneration. This study focuses on the role of OSM in osteogenesis, angiogenesis, and immunoregulation, as well as developing OSM functionalized cryogel microspheres (OSM/MS) to enhance bone regeneration in diabetic conditions. Methods We systematically investigated the in vitro bioactivities of OSM on bone marrow mesenchymal stromal cells (BMSCs), human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC), and macrophages (RAW264.7). Subsequently, we fabricated OSM-loaded porous GelMA cryogel microspheres (OSM/MS) via the combination of emulsification and gradient freeze-crosslinking techniques. The biocompatibility, osteogenic and angiogenic potentials, and immunomodulatory effects of OSM/MS were evaluated in vitro . The in vivo efficacy of OSM/MS was assessed in an inflammatory diabetic rat calvarial defect model. Results 50 ng/ml OSM can enhance migration and osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs, and angiogenesis in vitro without inciting an inflammatory response. OSM/MS, with an average diameter of ∼80 μm and an average pore size of about ∼10 μm, demonstrated excellent biocompatibility and significantly promoted the migration and osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs, as well as the angiogenic potential of HUVEC. Moreover, OSM/MS effectively regulated macrophage polarization towards an anti-inflammatory M2 phenotype. In vivo studies revealed that OSM/MS reduced osteoclast differentiation and promoted bone regeneration in diabetic rats. Conclusion The multifunctional properties of OSM/MS, including stem cell recruitment, osteogenesis, immunomodulation, and angiogenic induction, make it an effective approach for promoting bone regeneration in challenging diabetic conditions. This research not only lay the groundwork for the clinical utilization of OSM, but also presents a novel bioactive microsphere-based strategy for the management of diabetic bone defects. The translational potential of this article The ability of OSM/MS to promote endogenous stem cell recruitment, modulate the immune-osteogenesis microenvironment, and induce angiogenesis makes it a potent candidate for diabetic bone defects. The injectable and porous nature of OSM/MS facilitates minimally invasive delivery and integration with the irregular bone defect site. In particular, OSM/MS face fewer regulatory hurdles compared with traditional tissue engineering strategy due to the lack of cellular components. Given the significant unmet clinical need and the promising in vivo results, OSM/MS holds great potential for transforming the treatment paradigm for bone defects in diabetic patients.

Poly( m -phenylene isophthalamide) (PMIA) is a high-performance meta-aramid polymer whose processing is governed by chain segmental dynamics. Herein, PMIA segmental dynamics were evaluated by combining spin-labeled PMIA and continuous-wave electron paramagnetic resonance (CW-EPR) spectroscopy. The rotational correlation time (τ c ) obtained from EPR simulation exhibited a sharp increase near 4.5 wt %, close to the entanglement concentration ( c e ) determined from rheological measurements, demonstrating the reliability of spin-label EPR in determining segmental motion and entanglement. The dissolution behavior of PMIA was monitored by EPR spectroscopy, and the solubilizing salt concentration at which τ c changed abruptly closely matched that at which the solution became transparent. Additionally, τ c increased rapidly at low molecular weights before leveling off at higher molecular weights, reflecting the development and saturation of entanglement. These features establish spin-label CW-EPR as a complementary tool for elucidating polymer solution behavior at the microscopic scale in systems containing additives and for guiding polymer processing optimization.

It remains a huge challenge to develop methanol oxidation electrocatalysts with remarkable catalytic activity and anti-CO poisoning capability. Herein, PtIrNi and PtIrCo jagged nanowires are successfully synthesized via a facile wet-chemical approach. Pt and Ir components are concentrated in the exterior and Ni is concentrated in the interior of PtIrNi jagged nanowires, while PtIrCo jagged nanowires feature the homogeneous distribution of constituent metals. The PtIrNi and PtIrCo jagged nanowires exhibit mass activities of 1.88 A/mg Pt and 1.85 A/mg Pt , respectively, 3.24 and 3.19 times higher than that of commercial Pt/C (0.58 A/mg Pt ). In-situ Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy indicates that CO 2 was formed at a very low potential for both nanowires, in line with the high ratio of forward current density to backward current density for PtIrNi jagged nanowires (1.30) and PtIrCo jagged nanowires (1.46) relative to Pt/C (0.76). Also, the CO stripping and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy results substantiate the remarkable CO tolerance of the jagged nanowires. Besides, the two jagged nanowires possess exceptional activities toward ethanol and ethylene glycol oxidation reactions. This work provides a novel line of thought in terms of rational design of alcohol oxidation electrocatalysts with distinctive nanostructures .

Transition-metal borides have long been developed as promising electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER); however, the identity of their true active phase remains controversial. Here, in conjunction with our previous studies, by systematically investigating a series of cobalt- and nickel-boride-derived catalysts through a combined computational and experimental screening, we reveal that HER activity universally originates from the synergistic interaction between metallic sites and hydroxide matrices, enabled by lattice expansion, interfacial electronic transfer, and dynamic surface evolution. As a representative high-performance example, Pt-modified Co(OH) 2 derived from cobalt boride exhibits ultralow overpotentials of 11 mV at 10 mA cm −2 and 95 mV at 500 mA cm −2 , together with long-term stability. Importantly, the same reconstruction principle applies to Ni-boride systems, confirming the generality of this approach. Beyond water electrolysis, we further demonstrate that these HER catalysts are highly effective in Al-H 2 O batteries, where hydrogen evolution is coupled with electrical energy harvest. An alkaline Al-H 2 O battery employing the reconstructed catalyst delivers a power density of 21.96 mW cm −2 . This work establishes that the activity of “boride-based” HER catalysts fundamentally arises from reconstructed metal-hydroxide active centers, providing a development paradigm of transition-metal electrocatalysts.

Four hydroxyfluorooxoborates, α-K2[B3O3F4(OH)] (I), β-K2[B3O3F4(OH)] (II), Cs(NH4)3[B3O3F4(OH)]2 (III), and RbCs5[B3O3F4(OH)]3 (IV), with identical fundamental building block (FBB) [B3O3F4(OH)]2–, were obtained successfully and characterized comprehensively. A phase transition between I and II was detected, which led to a space group evolution from centrosymmetric to noncentrosymmetric. The F– and OH– substitution effect was studied based on II and its hydroxyborate derivative K2[B3O3(OH)5], which reveals the corresponding changes in the band gap and the nonlinear optical properties. In addition, the cationic-size effect on the arrangement of the [B3O3F4(OH)]2– FBBs and the birefringent properties were discussed for the title compounds. This study contributes to the advancement of structural chemistry and sheds some light on the structure–property relationship studies of hydroxyfluorooxoborates.

Cobalt catalysts supported on TiO2 with different crystal forms (anatase and rutile) differ sharply in CO2 conversion and product selectivity for CO2 hydrogenation. The Co/rutile-TiO2 catalyst selectively catalyzed CO2 hydrogenation to CH4, while CO is the main product on the Co/anatase-TiO2 catalyst. In situ DRIFT (diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform) results have partially revealed the reaction pathway of CO2 hydrogenation on these two catalysts. On Co/rutile-TiO2, the reaction proceeds through the key intermediate formate species, which is further converted to CH4. Differently, the reaction on Co/anatase-TiO2 undergoes CO2 → *CO, which desorbs to form gas-phase CO instead of subsequent hydrogenation. The strongly bonded *CO is required to enhance the subsequent hydrogenation. By simply changing the calcination temperature of anatase TiO2, the product selectivity can be tuned from CO to CH4 with a significant increase in CO2 conversion due to the surface phase transition of the anatase to the rutile phase. The addition of Zr, K, and Cs further improves the CO, CO2, and H2 adsorption in both the capacity and strength over anatase- and rutile-supported catalysts. The Zr modification makes the reaction pathway over anatase-supported catalyst proceed via the intermediate formate species and enables the subsequent hydrogenation to CH4. In addition, the surface C/H ratio increases significantly in the presence of promoters (unpromoted < Zr-promoted < K-Zr-promoted ∼ Cs-Zr-promoted), which leads to the highest C2+ selectivity of 17% with 70% CO2 conversion over K-Zr-Co/anatase-TiO2 catalyst. These results reveal mechanistic insights into how the product distribution of Co/TiO2 catalysts can be manipulated through adjusting the adsorption performance and surface C/H ratio.
