Flexible wearable electronics impose ever-more stringent demands on the design strategies for piezoresistive sensing materials. Nanofiber aerogels (NFAs) have emerged as a focal point in this field, attributed to their unique characteristics such as low density, extensive specific surface area, high porosity, and outstanding mechanical performance. Conventional methods for fabricating conductive NFA composites often entail complex procedures, including additional thermal annealing and carbonization, to establish three-dimensional conductive networks, which significantly hinder scalability and practical applications. To overcome this challenge, we propose a sustainable, cost-effective, and efficient hydrogen-bonded self-assembly drive strategy for designing conductive nanofiber networks with robust coaxial structures. During polymerization, pyrrole monomers were in situ polymerized onto cellulose acetate/thermoplastic polyurethane (CA/TPU) composite nanofibers through hydrogen-bonding, forming a roubst conductive shell layer while facilitating the mutual cross-linking of short nanofibers to establish a porous three-dimensional network. Benefiting from the nanofiber skeleton and multilevel pore structure, the resultant CA/TPU/PPy NFA (CTP-NFA) possesses an ultra-low volume density (30.77 mg cm −3 ) and remarkable mechanical properties (55.78 kPa at 80 % strain), enduring deformation under 1700 times its weight. Furthermore, the associated aerogel sensor exhibits ultra-high sensitivity (33.56 kPa −1 ), rapid response time (100 ms), and exceptional cycling stability (>5500 cycles of compression). Significantly, the NFA-based piezoresistive sensor precisely detects pressure signals as low as 30 Pa, enabling accurate monitoring of adult pulse waveforms. Given its superior performance, the resultant NFA presents substantial promise for applications in human health monitoring and human-computer interaction.

Improving saline-alkali soil requires cost-efficient and stable technologies. In this study, a novel technology combining in-situ super-stable mineralization with Ca-bentonite was successfully applied to ameliorate saline-alkali soil. A simulation experiment was conducted on Ca-bentonite in solution to validate its feasibility, and in-situ mineralization using humic acid, Fe(NO 3 ) 3 ·9H 2 O, and Ca-bentonite was performed to treat saline-alkali soil. Additionally, climate modeling and field experiments were employed to investigate the effects of this technology on soil physicochemical properties, crop growth, and crop yield. Under natural conditions, Ca-bentonite can transform into Na-bentonite via cation exchange with Na + . The results from the in-situ mineralization experiment showed that the soil pH, total content of CO 3 2− and HCO 3 − , Na + content, electrical conductivity, and bulk density decreased from approximately 10.30 to below 9.00, 7.81 to 1.53 g/kg, 7.20 to 1.51 g/kg, 2741 to 552 μS/cm, and 1.63 to 1.24 g/cm 3 , respectively. Furthermore, the germination rate of corn increased from 0 % to 83.3 % in climate simulation experiments. Field trials conducted in Inner Mongolia and Jilin, China, further demonstrated significant improvements in soil properties. The seedling emergence rates for corn and oats significantly increased, rising from 0 % to over 85 % and 95 %, respectively. Correspondingly, crop yields reached 323 kg/hm 2 for corn and 182 kg/hm 2 for oats. Together, our study introduces a novel, cost-effective, and efficient technology to enhance crop growth by mitigating soil salinity and alkalinity. This approach provides a new perspective for alleviating salt-alkali stress and contributes to the advancement of healthy and sustainable agricultural practices.

Despite significant breakthroughs that have been made in the application performance of traditionally distributed Guerbet alcohol ethoxylates (GAEO), research on the characteristics of their narrow distribution products remains relatively limited. Herein, a series of hydrophilic and hydrophobic nonionic surfactants have been synthesized via the ethoxylation of 2-butyl-octanol with ethylene oxide. Ca(OAc) 2 was employed as a narrow distribution (NRD) catalyst, while KOH served as a broad distribution (BRD) catalyst. The synthesized products were characterized using Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR), 1 H and 13 C nuclear magnetic resonance ( 1 H, 13 C NMR) spectroscopy. In addition, a comprehensive assessment of the physicochemical and surface properties of the NRD GAEO surfactants was conducted through systematic investigations. The results were then compared to conventionally distributed GAEO surfactants. The study has demonstrated that NRD GAEO surfactants exhibited lower critical micelle concentration (CMC) values, which have the higher efficiency of the surfactant application. In addition, the NRD products have superior wettability performance, reduced foaming capacity in foam properties, and improved rapid defoaming capacities. In regarding their other properties, they closely mirrored the performance of BRD products. These findings will contribute to a comprehensive understanding of the properties of NRD ethoxylates and have substantial practical implications in optimizing personal care and household cleaning products.

A boron-doped graphene (BG)/boron-doped diamond (BDD) composite film was obtained by continuously growing BDD and BG by chemical vapor deposition. In this process, the sp 3 C C bonds in the diamond phase structure are directly converted into sp 2 C C bonds in graphene to combine the two carbon materials, while BG nanosheets are vertically grown on the exposed planes of BDD crystals. These process features impart the vertical BG (VBG)/BDD film a large specific surface area and high electrocatalytic activity, resulting in an electroactive surface area of 2.35 cm 2 . Electrodeposition can be used to load a large number of Au nanoparticles (NPs) on the VBG/BDD electrode. The Au-VBG/BDD electrode was used to construct an immunosensor capable of simultaneously quantifying carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and carcinoma antigen 125 (CA 125) at concentrations of 0.5–100 pg mL –1 and 0.5–100 mU mL –1 , respectively, with corresponding detection limits of 0.15 pg mL –1 and 0.09 mU mL –1 . This method is suitable for the practical detection of CEA, CA125, and other tumor markers in human body fluids, allowing early cancer diagnostics and timely treatment.

Cell microenvironment is a collection of dynamic biochemical and biophysical cues which functions as the key factor in determining cell behavior. Encapsulating single cell into micrometer-scale hydrogels which mimics the cell microenvironment can be used for single cell analysis, cell therapies, and tissue engineering. Here, we developed a microfluidics-based platform to engineer the niche environment at single cell level using alginate microgels crosslinked by different metal ions to regulate stem cell behavior for bone regeneration. Specifically, we revealed that Ca 2+ in the engineered microenvironment promoted osteogenic differentiation of encapsulated stem cells and substantially accelerated the matrix mineralization compared to Sr 2+ in vitro . However, the superior osteoinductive capacity of Ca 2+ compared with Sr 2+ led to comparable bone healing in a rat bone defect model. This attributed to Sr 2+ in microgels to inhibit the osteoclast activity and bone resorption after implantation. In summary, the present study demonstrates metal ions as a critical factor in the environmental cues to affect cell behavior and influence the efficacy of stem cell-based therapy in tissue regeneration, and provides new insights to engineer an expecting microenvironment for regenerative medicine.

Reducing the Ca/Si molar ratio is critical for optimizing calcium silicate hydrate (C–S–H) materials and enabling the recycling of silicon-rich waste. However, achieving high-performance crystalline C–S–H at Ca/Si < 0.83 remains challenging. This study proposes and systematically investigates a dual-silicon-source strategy, employing both active and inert silicon sources to regulate hydrothermal synthesis. At Ca/Si = 0.6, experimental results demonstrate that increasing the active silicon source content from 0 % to 60 % enhances tobermorite crystallinity by 275 %, decreases thermal conductivity by 26 %, and improves compressive strength by 7.30 MPa. The optimal performance was obtained at a reactive silicon-to-calcium molar ratio of 1.0. These findings confirm that this strategy significantly enhances C–S–H crystallinity and material performance. Mechanistically, the higher reactivity of the active silicon source drives competitive calcium consumption, facilitating the formation of long-chain crystalline C–S–H. This approach demonstrates a scalable pathway for synthesizing high-performance C–S–H under low Ca/Si conditions, offering promising applications in optimizing C–S–H-based materials and the recycling of silicon-rich waste.

The trade-off between power conversion efficiency (PCE) and average visible transmittance (AVT) in semi-transparent solar cells significantly restricts their application in building-integrated photovoltaics. Bismuth ferrite (BiFeO 3 , BFO)-based materials have shown great potential to address this trade-off due to their inherent ferroelectric properties and tunable optical bandgap. However, even with performance optimization through chemical doping, a considerable bottleneck remains. Using the Ca/Cr co-doped BFO system as an example—whose optimal composition still exhibits a PCE below 1.4 %—this study proposes a new strategy of physical thickness control to overcome the limitations of chemical doping. By systematically investigating the influence of the thickness (200–350 nm) of the Ca/Cr co-doped BFO layer with optimal composition on device performance, it was found that increased thickness significantly enhances light absorption and optimizes the distribution of the built-in electric field. The results demonstrate that at a thickness of 336 nm, the device achieves the best photovoltaic performance (PCE = 1.86 %, open-circuit voltage ( V oc ) = 1.57 V, short-circuit current density ( J sc ) = 2.30 mA/cm 2 ), representing an improvement of over 35 % compared to the reference thickness (210 nm). Meanwhile, at a thickness of 285 nm, the device maintains a relatively high AVT (33.70 %) and achieves the highest light utilization efficiency (LUE = 0.6100 %). Electrical impedance spectroscopy analysis indicates that increased thickness effectively reduces the carrier recombination probability. This study reveals the synergistic mechanism of thickness regulation through “light absorption–built-in electric field–carrier transport” in balancing PCE and AVT, providing a reliable optimization strategy for semi-transparent ferroelectric photovoltaic devices.

The effective and economical removal of heavy metal-organic complexes remain an urgent challenge in the field of industrial wastewater treatment. In this study, Ca-doped ferrihydrite composites and Ca/Al co-doped ferrihydrite composites were synthesized via a simple one-step co-precipitation method and applied for the oxidative removal of EDTA-Cu in a hypochlorite system. The incorporation of Al significantly enhanced the material's stability. The Fe-Ca-Al composite exhibited a catalytic degradation efficiency of 97 % after 4 reaction cycles, representing a 32 % improvement compared to the Ca-doped ferrihydrite (Fe-Ca). Mechanistic studies revealed that the Fe-Ca-Al composite demonstrated strong selective adsorption of the organic moieties in EDTA-Cu over a broad pH range. Moreover, the oxygen vacancies (Ov) induced by Ca and Al co-doping played a crucial role in the enhanced catalytic performance and efficient removal of EDTA-Cu. These abundant Ov promoted electron transfer and provided numerous surface adsorption sites, facilitating the conversion of O 2 · - to 1 O 2 . Given that 1 O 2 can rapidly degrade organic compounds containing amino and carboxyl groups, it shows excellent potential for the treatment of EDTA-Cu. This study presents a highly active and reusable catalyst based on a Ca-Al doping strategy, offering a promising approach for the removal of organic-heavy metal complexes.

Ca/Al-Layered Double Hydroxide (Ca/Al-LDH), was a kind of important anionic clays with broad applications owing to its properties of exchangeable anion and adjustable particle size. In this study, Ca/Al-LDH had been successfully prepared by co-precipitation method, and it was found that the particle size, crystallinity and morphology of Ca/Al-LDH could be tuned via changing ethanol/water ratio of solution. More interestingly, with the increase of the Ca/Al-LDH’s dosage, the different crystal structure of Ca/Al-LDH had promoting effect on the development of the early strength of the cement slurries, however, the change trend of the strength growth rate of various kinds of cement slurries were quite different. Meanwhile, experimental results disclosed that the crystallinity and particle size of Ca/Al-LDH determined its interaction with cement hydration particles. That was likely to lead to a change in tricalcium silicate (C 3 S) and tricalcium aluminate (C 3 A) hydration process of accelerating or retarding under the different Ca/Al-LDH content, thus enabling the early strength development of slurry to exhibit different trends. And this finding could provide further interpretation for the effect of hydrotalcite-like materials on cement hydration process and offer a theoretical exploration for its practical application in the future.

A PEDOT:PSS/AuNPs/CA modified screen-printed carbon based disposable electrochemical sensor for sensitive and selective determination of carmine was studied. Enhanced electrode conductivity was achieved via a 3-step process: (i) construction of a conductive polymer (PEDOT: PSS) on a disposable screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE) (ii) electropolymerization with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and (iii) modification with positively charged β-mercaptoethylamine (CA) in acidic solution using an Au S bond. The prepared nanomaterials were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectrum analysis (EDX). The properties of the resulting sensor were examined by cyclic voltammetry (CV), differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Experimental parameters associated with optimal detection conditions such as modes of electrode modification, ratio of PEDOT:PSS, pH of electrolyte, number of turns used for AuNPs polymerization, and CA concentrations were evaluated. The data revealed that the prepared sensor had a low detection limit (6.05 × 10 −9 mol/L) and could achieve linearity over a wide range of concentration (9.0 × 10 −9 to 3.9 × 10 −6 mol/L), thereby meeting the requirements for analysis of trace carmine. The reliability of our technique for practical applications was demonstrated by analyzing carmine in spiked beverages.

Highly efficient inorganic phosphors are crucial for solid-state lighting. In this paper, a new method of low-temperature self-reduction was used for preparing a highly efficient deep blue-emitting phosphor of Ca[B 8 O 11 (OH) 4 ] : Eu 2+ (CBH : Eu 2+ ). The crystal structure, morphology, chemical state, and photoluminescence (PL) properties of the CBH : Eu 2+ phosphor have been investigated. By using the screened hybrid function (HSE06), the band gap ( E g ) of CBH was calculated to be 7.48 eV, which is a necessary condition for achieving high quantum yield phosphors. The experiment results show that almost all the added raw materials of Eu 3+ can be reduced to Eu 2+ in CBH crystal under a non-reducing atmosphere. The CBH : Eu 2+ phosphor shows a broad excitation spectrum centered at 277 and 327 nm in the range of 220 to 400 nm, and a narrow-band emission spectrum centered at 428 nm in the range of 400 to 500 nm, with a full width at half maximum (fwhm) of 42.35 nm. Under UV radiation, the CBH : 2 %Eu 2+ exhibits high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY=95.0 %), high external quantum efficiency (EQE=31.1 %), and ultra-high color purity (97.6 %). The PL intensity of CBH : 2 %Eu 2+ remains 62.6 % of the initial intensity at 150 °C. Finally, the white light-emitting diodes (WLED) fabricated by CBH : 2 %Eu 2+ , excited by a 365 nm chip, presents outstanding performances with a luminous efficacy (LE) of 13.9 lm/W, a color rendering index (CRI) of 89.4, and a correlated color temperature (CCT) of 5825 K. The above results show that CBH : Eu 2+ can be used as a promising blue phosphor for WLED. This new method of low-temperature self-reduction can be applied to design and prepare other new types of highly efficient phosphors. Graphical Through a new method of low-temperature (only 350 °C) self-reduction, a highly efficient deep blue-emitting phosphor Ca[B 8 O 11 (OH) 4 ] : Eu 2+ was prepared, with a high PLQY of 95 % and a color purity of 97.6 %. Then, a WLED fabricated by the as-prepared CBH : 2 %Eu 2+ presents outstanding performance with a luminous efficacy (LE) of 13.9 lm/W, a color rendering index (CRI) of 89.4, and a correlated color temperature (CCT) of 5825 K.

The development of efficient and reusable sorbents for SO 2 removal from flue gas has attracted considerable attention. Herein, we report a “chainmail” structured Ca-based SO 2 sorbent by encapsulating Ca species within ordered mesoporous carbon (OMC), denoted as Ca(OH) 2 @OMC- x , where x denotes the Ca(OH) 2 mass fraction (wt%). The OMC was prepared via a one-step solvent-free mechanochemical assembly: the precursors and a block copolymer template (Pluronic F127) were ground to form a preorganized composite, followed by solidothermal treatment and calcination to remove the template and carbonize the polymer. The obtained OMC was then impregnated with a Ca precursor and calcined to strengthen interfacial interactions, encapsulating the Ca species within the OMC framework. Finally, steam treatment converted the confined Ca species into finely dispersed Ca(OH) 2 active domains. The resulting Ca(OH) 2 @OMC- x exhibits a large BET surface area (169.4–290.3 m 2 /g), long-range ordered mesoporosity with a narrow pore size distribution (∼5.5 nm), and well-dispersed Ca active phases with enhanced stability. Consequently, Ca(OH) 2 @OMC- x serves as an efficient and reusable solid sorbent for SO 2 capture, exhibiting a high SO 2 adsorption capacity of 11.24 mmol/g and maintaining 98.6% of its initial capacity after five adsorption–desorption cycles. This study provides an effective “chainmail encapsulation” materials design strategy for scalable SO 2 abatement under complex flue gas conditions.
