Determination of 10 impurity elements in 5N high-purity cesium nitrate by inductively coupled plasma tandem mass spectrometry

Shengyang Gao,Wenjuan Guan,Guiqing Zhang,Qinggang Li,Mingyu Wang,Shengxi Wu,Xinsheng Wu,Hui Zhong

A direct ICP-MS/MS method was established for analyzing 10 impurities in 5 N-grade CsNO 3 . • Simple sample preparation with effective elimination of Cs-matrix interference. • Exhibits superior analytical performance (high sensitivity, low LODs, wide range) for high-purity material analysis. Cesium nitrate (CsNO 3 ) crystals occupy a strategic position in high-tech applications owing to their unique physicochemical properties. Therefore, establishing an accurate and efficient multi-element impurity analysis method is of great practical significance. In the analysis and detection of high-purity substances, high-concentration matrices often cause signal interference to trace impurities, while matrix separation is prone to introduce new impurities, thereby affecting the accuracy of detection results. In this work, inductively coupled plasma tandem mass spectrometry (ICP-MS/MS) was employed for the quantification of impurity elements, and a novel dynamic reaction mode with multi-gas settings (no gas/he/NH 3 ) was innovatively adopted. A method for the determination of 10 interference-prone impurity elements in 5 N high-purity cesium nitrate was established by optimizing the flow rate of collision gases to mitigate the matrix effect of cesium nitrate and selecting an appropriate internal standard for matrix effect correction. The experimental results indicated that Li and pb were analyzed under the no gas mode; Si was determined via mass shift at an NH 3 flow rate of 0.75 mL/min; ca was determined via mass shift at an NH 3 flow rate of 3.00 mL/min; K was determined via mass shift at an NH 3 flow rate of 1.25 mL/min; Rb was determined via mass shift at an NH 3 flow rate of 1.75 mL/min; Mg, Na, and Al were determined via mass shift at a he flow rate of 3.0 mL/min; and Fe was determined via mass shift at a he flow rate of 4.8 mL/min. The limits of detection of the method ranged from 0.01 to 0.07 ng/mL, and the relative standard deviations were between 0.75% and 10.14%. Spiked recovery experiments on real samples yielded a recovery range of 94.9%–110.9%, which verified the reliability of the proposed method. Through an in-depth study on the determination of impurities in 5 N high-purity cesium nitrate, this work established an accurate and comprehensive ICP-MS/MS method for the detection of impurities in high-purity cesium nitrate, which provides a valuable reference for the determination of impurities in other high-purity rubidium and cesium salts. Enabling Ion Milling Redeposition Nano-Templates for Scalable Nanofabrication of Chemical-Sensing Metamaterials with 10 nm-Feature Size

Mengcheng Wang,Hongbing Shi,Di Wu,Li Jiang,Zhijuan Su,Zhuoqing Yang,Guifu Ding,Faheng Zang

Achieving low-cost patterning of 10 nm-scale nanostructures remains a critical challenge in nanofabrication. Conventional electron beam lithography has a prolonged processing time and limited throughput due to its intrinsic small-area processing nature. Extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography faces prohibitive costs in equipment and materials. While industrial nanoimprinting offers a lower-cost, high-throughput alternative, its resolution is fundamentally constrained by the template's minimum feature size. Herein, we present a new nanofabrication process that exploits the redeposition effect in ion milling to fabricate controllable 10 nm-scale nanogaps. This approach enabled the preparation of gratings and nanorings array integrated with noble metal nanogaps for applications in surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). Furthermore, gratings and nanopillar arrays with sidewalls coated by a metal mask were dry-etched to form a self-aligned stacked nanomorphology on a silicon substrate without optical alignment, inheriting the metal mask's minimum feature size. The resulting high-quality templates subsequently facilitated high-fidelity replication of diminutive structures via nanoimprint lithography (NIL). This scalable strategy holds significant potential as a feasible route for manufacturing applications in nanophononics, biosensing, quantum devices, integrated circuits (ICs), and beyond.

Polymer Solar Cells Exceeding 10% Efficiency Enabled via a Facile Star-Shaped Molecular Cathode Interlayer with Variable Counterions

Zhenguo Wang,Zuojia Li,Xiaopeng Xu,Ying Li,Kai Li,Qiang Peng

A series of star-shaped small molecular cathode interlayer materials are synthesized for PTB7:PC 71 BM based polymer solar cells (PSCs), comprising neutral amino groups, quaternary ammonium ions, amino N-oxides, and sulfobetaine ions as pendant polar functionalities, respectively. For the first time, the effect of these different pendant functional groups with or without mobile counterions on the cells' photovoltaic properties is investigated in detail. A large improvement in device performance is observed by inserting these cathode interfacial layers (CILs) between the PTB7:PC 71 BM active layer and the Al electrode. The CILs could effectively lower the work function of the Al cathode, increase the built-in potential, and decrease the series resistance of the related PSCs. poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene-co- N -[4-(3-methyl-propyl)]-diphenylamine) with pendant quaternary ammonium ions shows the best cathode modification ability, giving rise to the highest power conversion efficiency of 10.1%, even better than that of the typical poly[(9,9-bis(3′-( N , N -dimethylamino)propyl)-2,7-fluorene)- alt -2,7-(9,9-dioctylfluorene)] based device. The design strategy and structure–property relationships concluded in this work will be helpful to develop more efficient cathode interface materials for high-performance PSCs in the future.

Mucin2 regulated by Ho1/p38/IL-10 axis plays a protective role in polystyrene nanoplastics-mediated intestinal toxicity

Mengxing Cui,Qianmei He,Ziwei Wang,Yongjiang Yu,Huan Gao,Ziqi Liu,Honghao Peng,Han Wang,Xue Zhang,Daochuan Li,Liping Chen,Xiumei Xing,Yongmei Xiao,Wen Chen,Qing Wang

Micro/nano-plastics (MPs/NPs) are a newly discovered environmental pollutant that can be ingested by humans through food and drinking water. In this study we evaluated the impact of MPs/NPs on the intestinal barrier and its mechanism. Doses of MPs/NPs were used to treat Caco-2/HT29-MTX in-vitro model and in-vivo model. In in-vitro model, 20 nm polystyrene nanoplastics (PS-NPs) had higher cytotoxicity than larger particles (200 nm and 2000 nm), and led to the increase of the permeability along with the decreased expression of tight junction proteins. Intriguingly, 20 nm PS-NPs elevated the expression of MUC2 simultaneously. Further studies revealed that PS-NPs increased the expression of HO1 through ROS generation, and then activated p38 to elevate IL-10 secretion in Caco-2 cell. The IL-10 secreted by Caco-2 cell promoted the expression of MUC2 in HT29-MTX cell through STAT1/3. Elevated MUC2 expression alleviates the cytotoxicity of PS-NPs. Besides, increased intestinal permeability and up-regulation of MUC2 through Ho1/p38/IL-10 pathway was also observed in 20 nm PS-NPs treated mouse model. In conclusion, PS-NPs can induce the intestinal toxicity and result in the increased adaptive expression of MUC2 to resist this adverse effect. People with inadequate mucin expression need to pay more attention to the toxicity of PS-NPs. This study provided a valuable insight for clarifying the mechanism and potential risk of intestinal toxicity induced by nanoplastics.

Graphene oxide@Mg3Si4O9(OH)10: A hierarchical layered silicate nanocomposite with superior adsorption capacity for enriching Eu(III)

Yonghao Wang,Biao Chi,Chengliang Xiao,Dagui Chen,Yongjing Wang,Minghua Liu

In this work, a layered nanocomposite with a superior adsorption ability has been designed and prepared for the preconcentration of Eu(III), a chemical analogue of trivalent lanthanides [Ln(III)] and actinides [An(III)] in nuclear waste. This nanocomposite was obtained by fabricating magnesium silicate (MgSi) of the Talc-phase Mg 3 Si 4 O 9 (OH) 10 on graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets, in which the GO matrix can effectively avoid the agglomeration of MgSi. A hierarchical structure of GO@MgSi with interwoven nano-sized MgSi lamellae dispersedly standing on the surface of GO was observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Such a hierarchical structure effectively increases the surface area of MgSi, leading to up to date the highest adsorption capacity (344.82 mg·L −1 ) for enriching Eu(III). Powder X-ray diffraction pattern (PXRD) of Mg 3 Si 4 O 9 (OH) 10 shows that the (0 2 0) and (2 0 0) diffraction peaks disappear after the adsorption of Eu(III), indicating structural changes in MgSi lamellae after adsorption. The infrared absorption spectra (IR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) measurements confirm the structural transformations in the Si O tetrahedral and Mg OH octahedral sheet in MgSi, suggesting that MgSi lamella rather than GO sheet might play a dominant role during the adsorption process. The superior adsorption behaviors of GO@MgSi indicate that it is a highly promising and efficient candidate for Eu(III) preconcentration in aqueous solution.

Inhibition of matrix metalloproteinase-9 by 10-MDP and its calcium salt contributes to improved dentin-bonding durability

Xiaojun Yuan,Qi Wang,Qing Zhao,Zehua Bai,Chen Chen,Haifeng Xie

The activation of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) is responsible for degradation of the hybrid layer . The effect of 10-methacryloyloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate (10-MDP) on biodegradation of the hybrid layer remains unknown. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of 10-MDP and its Ca salt on MMP-9 activity and dentin-bonding durability. 10-MDP-Ca salt was synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). The effects of chlorhexidine (CHX), 10-MDP, and 10-MDP-Ca salt on MMP activity were evaluated by in-situ zymography, MMP-9 inhibition assay, and hydroxyproline (HYP) assay. Dentin-resin bonded specimens were fabricated with using CHX or 10-MDP, including Single Bond 2 (Ctr), CHX + Single Bond 2 (CHX), 10-MDP + Single Bond 2 (10-MDP), and SBU (SBU). Micro-tensile bond strength (μTBS) and nanoleakage tests were performed after 24-h or two-years water storage. XRD and NMR confirmed the presence of 10-MDP-Ca salt. The relative inhibition percentages of recombinant MMP-9 for 10-MDP and 10-MDP-Ca salt were 8.04 ± 0.83% and 55.96 ± 1.82% respectively. HYP assay showed that 10-MDP, CHX, and 10-MDP-Ca salt conditioning decreased collagen degradation. Water storage weakened μTBS of all the groups, with the Ctr and CHX groups showing more significant decreases ( P  < 0.05). After aging, the Ctr and CHX groups also presented more nanoleakage, and the CHX group showed more in-situ zymography fluorescence than the 10-MDP and SBU groups. The capacity to inhibit MMP-9 activity, decrease HYP release, and reduce nanoleakage of 10-MDP and its salt contribute to improvement of dentin-bonding durability.

Preparation, physicochemical and pharmacological study of 10-hydroxycamptothecin solid dispersion with complexation agent – xylan-nonanoic acid amphiphilic conjugates

Qihong Zhang,Chen Su,Zhaohui Lu,Hui Wang,Zongmiao Feng,Alexandr V. Dushkin,Weike Su

An amphiphilic conjugate of carboxymethyl xylan-nonanoic acid (CX-NA) was synthesized with molecular weight of 38.35 kDa, HLB value of 13.59, and critical micelle concentration of 23.17 μg/ml. CX-NA could efficiently encapsulate the model drug of 10-hydroxycamptothecin (HCPT). The drug loaded amphiphilic conjugate could self-assembled to micelles with an average diameter of 110 nm, zeta potential of −42.88 mV, and drug encapsulation efficiency of 79.8%. In vitro experiments confirmed that the drug-loaded micelles exhibited excellent stability and permeability in the intestinal environment. Transport pathway demonstrated that HCPT was uptake by cells through clathrin-mediated endocytosis. Intestinal in situ absorption study further confirmed CX-NA vehicle could enhance HPCT to transport across intestinal epithelial cells in colonic tissues. Furthermore, the formulation showed excellent anti-tumor activity in vitro and improved bioavailability of 3.4 times in vivo as comparing with free HCPT. These findings imply that this amphiphilic conjugate is a potential and promising vehicle for delivery anticancer drug.

The roles of 10-methacryloyloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate and its calcium salt in preserving the adhesive–dentin hybrid layer

Xin Jin,Fei Han,Qi Wang,Xiaojun Yuan,Qiyue Zhou,Haifeng Xie,Lina Niu,Chen Chen

Objectives 10-Methacryloyloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate (MDP) has been regarded as the most effective dentin-bonding monomer for more than 20 years. Although the dentin-bonding promoting effect of MDP has been well demonstrated, the mechanisms by which it benefits the stably of collagen within the adhesive–dentin hybrid layer are not currently fully understood. The objective of this study was to investigate the roles of MDP and its calcium salt in preserving the adhesive–dentin hybrid layer. Methods MDP-conditioned collagen was investigated by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, Ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy, and molecular docking. The structural changes to the dentin surface upon acid-etching and MDP-conditioning were observed by SEM. X-ray diffraction and nuclear magnetic resonance were used to investigate the chemical interactions between MDP and HAp. The collagen-protecting effects of MDP and its Ca salt were investigated using in-situ zymography, rhMMP-9 colorimetric assay, hydroxyproline assay, and molecular docking. Results MDP forms a stable collagen-phosphate complex through hydrogen bonding with the collagen in dentin. Furthermore, it generates MDP-Ca salts that are deposited on the dentin collagen scaffold, protecting it from degradation. Moreover, both free MDP and the MDP-Ca salt inhibit matrix metallopeptidase and exogenous proteases, with the inhibitory effect of the calcium salt being significantly stronger than that of the free form. Significance MDP-based adhesives preserve the collagen within the hybrid layer by simultaneously improving collagen’s resistance to exogenous enzymes and inhibiting MMP activity, both of which contribute to the longevity of dentin–resin bonding.

Conditioned Medium of Human Amniotic Epithelial Cells Alleviates Experimental Allergic Conjunctivitis Mainly by IL-1ra and IL-10

Wu Binxin,Gao Furong,Lin Jianhua,Lu Lixia,Xu Huiming,Xu Guo-Tong

Allergic conjunctivitis (AC) is the most prevalent form of mucosal allergy, and the conditioned medium (CM) from mesenchymal stem cells has been reported to attenuate some allergic diseases. However, the therapeutic effects of CM from different tissue stem cells (TSC-CM) on allergic diseases have not been tested. Here, we studied the effects of topical administration of different human TSC-CM on experimental AC (EAC) mice. Only human amniotic epithelial cell-CM (AECM) significantly attenuated allergic eye symptoms and reduced the infiltration of immune cells and the levels of local inflammatory factors in the conjunctiva compared to EAC mice. In addition, AECM treatment decreased immunoglobulin E (IgE) release, histamine production, and the hyperpermeability of conjunctival vessels. Protein chip assays revealed that the levels of anti-inflammatory factors, interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1ra) and IL-10, were higher in AECM compared to other TSC-CM. Furthermore, the anti-allergic effects of AECM on EAC mice were abrogated when neutralized with IL-1ra or IL-10 antibody, and the similar phenomenon was for the activation and function of B cells and mast cells. Together, the present study demonstrated that AECM alleviates EAC symptoms by multiple anti-allergic mechanisms mainly via IL-1ra and IL-10. Such topical AECM therapy may represent a novel and feasible strategy for treating AC.

Studies on synthesis, volume and conductivity behaviors of three novel pharmaceutical salts [CnPy][AceSA] (n = 8, 10, 12)

Lulu Zhang,Zhenning Yan,Yamin Lv,Shuangxia Shen

In the present work, three new pharmaceutical salts based on N -alkyl-pyridinium ([C n Py] + , n = 8, 10, 12) as the cations and acetyl-sulfacetamide ([AceSA] - ) as an anion were synthesized. The thermal stability was measured by synchronous thermal analyzer. The solvation and micellization behaviors in aqueous solution were investigated by experimental density and conductivity data at different temperatures. These data were used to calculate the apparent molar volume at infinite dilution, V 2 , φ 0 V2,φ0 , the apparent molar expansibility at infinite dilution, E φ 0 Eφ0 , limiting molar conductivity, Ʌ 0 , critical micelle concentration, cmc , and the relative thermodynamic functions for the micellization of [C n Py][AceSA] in aqueous solution. The effect of the aliphatic chain length of N -alkyl-pyridinium cation and temperature on the estimated properties was examined. The obtained results confirmed that [C n Py] + (n = 8, 10, 12) cations with longer alkyl chain exhibit higher decomposition temperature, large V 2 , φ 0 V2,φ0 , low cmc and Ʌ 0 values. The results were discussed in terms of solute–solvent interactions and structural changes of [C n Py][AceSA] in water.
