Nuclear matrix protein 22 (NMP22) is a crucial bladder cancer marker, the accurate detection of which is conductive to improving the effectiveness of tumor prevention and treatment. However, due to low sensitivity, it is impossible for conventional immunoassay to detect the trace of NMP22 at the early stages of tumor progression. It is crucial to develop a simple, sensitive and accurate detection method of NMP22. As a variety of two-dimensional (2D) material, reduced graphene oxide-tetraethylene pentamine (rGO-TEPA) demonstrates excellent conductivity and contains abundant amino groups. As a sort of 3D material, silica-modified Cu-based metalorganic frameworks deposited silver nanoparticles ( [email protected] 2 @AgNPs) composites are characterized by large surface area, excellent biocompatibility and water stability, which allows the immobilization of anti-NMP22 in large amounts via Ag-N bonds. Through a combination of the advantages exhibited by 2D material, 3D material, AgNPs and disposable screen-printed electrode, a disposable and sensitive label-free electrochemical immunosensor has been successfully assembled for NMP22 detection. In addition to exhibiting a wide linear range (0.1 pg∙mL −1 -1000 ng∙mL −1 ) and a low detection limit (33.33 fg∙mL −1 , S/N = 3), the proposed immunosensor also demonstrated satisfactory selectivity, strong reproducibility and high stability. Moreover, the excellent performance in detecting human urine samples makes it applicable in practice.

In this study, a novel antibacterial agent was developed based on chitin nanofibrous microspheres loaded with AgNPs and Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles (Ag-Fe 3 O 4 -NMs) for synergistic antibacterial activity and wound healing. Ag-Fe 3 O 4 -NMs was prepared via an in situ synthetic method which showed an excellent porosity and wettability. Moreover, Ag-Fe 3 O 4 -NMs were capable of sustained release of Ag + and catalysed the decomposition of low H 2 O 2 concentrations to generate hydroxyl radical ( OH). The OH and Ag + showed higher antibacterial activity and inhibited the toxicity with high dose of AgNPs and H 2 O 2 . In vitro biocompatibility results suggested that Ag-Fe 3 O 4 -NMs have low toxicity and low hemolysis. Thus, a novel antibacterial agent with enhanced synergistic antibacterial activity was obtained by combination of Ag-Fe 3 O 4 -NMs and H 2 O 2 at a low and biologlically safe dosage, which could facilitate fibroblast growth, accelerate epithelialization, and promote the healing rate of infected wounds.

Multifunctional conductive hydrogels have attracted extensive attention in the fields of biomedicine and health monitoring. However, integrating excellent stretchability, self-adhesion, sensitive sensing, electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding, and antibacterial properties into conductive hydrogels for wearable sensor applications remains a significant challenge. In this study, a multifunctional conductive hydrogel (GAMA) was prepared by incorporating MXene@Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs) as conductive fillers, which were uniformly dispersed within a dual-network structure of guar gum/acrylic acid. Serving as conductive agents, reinforcing fillers, and antibacterial components, MXene@AgNPs enable the GAMA hydrogel to achieve multifunctional integration and balanced performance. The GAMA hydrogel exhibits outstanding mechanical performance with a tensile strength of 97 kPa and elongation at a break of 850%, self-adhesion (21.5 kPa), and high conductivity (14.04 mS cm−1). Additionally, we employed this hydrogel as a flexible strain sensor to monitor human motion, achieving high sensitivity (gauge factor (GF) of 6.48 at 300% strain). The in situ synthesis of AgNPs on MXene nanosheets enhances polarization and interfacial losses of electromagnetic waves, endowing the hydrogel with an EMI shielding effectiveness of 34.5 dB. Furthermore, comprehensive biocompatibility evaluations confirm its excellent antibacterial performance, hemocompatibility, and cytocompatibility. Therefore, these properties endow the multifunctional GAMA hydrogel with great potential for applications in wearable sensors for human motion monitoring and EMI shielding.

A novel fast, sensitive, and specific multifunctional electrochemical platform has been proposed for simultaneous detection , elimination, and inactivation of pathogenic bacteria for the first time. The platform is constituted with three-dimensional ZnO nanorod arrays (3D-ZnO) decorated with sliver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and functionalized with vancomycin (Van). Based on the specific recognition of Van for Gram-positive bacteria, the fabricated electrochemical platform has presented high detection sensitivity to Staphylococcus aureus with a low detection limit of 330 cfu/mL and adaptable bacterial-elimination efficiency (50%) at low concentrations (1000–2000 cfu/mL). Moreover, the platform has shown high antibacterial activity (99.99%) arising from the synergistic germicidal effect of the composited antibacterial AgNPs and Van units. The current work could provide new strategies to construct advanced platforms for simultaneous detection, elimination, and inactivation of various pathogenic bacteria.

Overuse of antibiotics has led to the emergence of drug-resistant bacteria and environmental problems. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) and silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) can potentially replace antibiotics. Therefore, it is possible to create composite nanostructures with synergistic bactericidal properties by combining AgNPs and AMPs. In this study, a novel anti-lipopolysaccharide factor 6, named Sh ALF6, was identified in the freshwater crab Sinopotamon henanense . Full-length ShALF6 is 654 bp long and contains a typical lipopolysaccharide-binding domain spanning from Cys51 to Lys72. Sh ALF6 is highly expressed in hemocytes and responds to infection by the gram-negative bacterium Aeromonas hydrophila . Sh ALF6 inhibited the growth of gram-negative bacteria by binding to them and disrupting their cell membranes. To alter the charge of Sh ALF6, the negatively charged glutamic acid (E) in the sequence was replaced with a positively charged lysine (K) and the modified protein was named Sh ALF6-2 K. The bacteriostatic activity of Sh ALF6-2 K was significantly enhanced by an increase in the protein's cations. Sh ALF6-2 K showed high binding efficiency after 36 h of co-incubation with AgNPs and modifying the surface potential of the AgNPs. Sh ALF6-2 K-AgNPs exhibited synergistic inhibition with enhanced effectiveness against gram-negative bacteria. Finally, the cytotoxicity of Sh ALF6-2 K-AgNPs was investigated. The combination of Sh ALF6-2 K and AgNPs significantly reduced the toxic effects of AgNPs on the cells. This study provides theoretical and experimental bases for the development of novel bioactive AMP-coated composite AgNPs.

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have little impact on organisms at environmentally relevant concentrations. However, AgNPs coexisting with photoactive minerals may show an elevated combined ecotoxicity due to the additional photoinduced cytotoxicity caused by the Ag loading, which increases the photocatalytic activity. Herein, key pathway perturbations in the algae Chlorella pyrenoidosa (C. pyrenoidosa) under exposure to AgNPs, hematite nanoparticles (HemNPs), and their mixtures (direct exposure (MX1) and exposure after interaction (MX2)) were explored under illumination using transcriptomic and metabolomic approaches. The results showed that the MX2 group exhibited the strongest C. pyrenoidosa growth inhibition. The AgNPs, HemNPs, MX1 and MX2 groups significantly triggered ROS production in algal cells, which increased by 11.05%, 5.54%, 4.79% and 13.58%, respectively. Notably, the cell membrane was obviously damaged only in the MX2 group. Transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses showed that metabolic pathways, such as starch and sucrose metabolism, pantothenate and CoA biosynthesis, and amino acid metabolism, were significantly altered. To examine the internal mechanisms behind these differences in genes and metabolites, ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis) diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and photocurrent response measurements were used to determine the photochemical properties of the four systems. AgNPs attachment enhanced the photoelectric properties of the AgNPs/HemNPs composite (MX2), improving the photoinduced electron–hole pair separation efficiency and charge separation efficiency. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) results also showed that the MX2 system yielded the highest amount of free radicals. Free radicals caused photoinduced cytotoxicity in algae, leading to aggravated toxicity of AgNPs to C. pyrenoidosa in the presence of HemNPs.

An ultrasensitive resonance energy transfer based “on-off” switch electrochemiluminescence (ECL) immunosensing strategy was proposed and applied for prostate specific antigen (PSA) detection. In detail, self-enhancing nanohybrids of nano-CeO 2 and AuNPs decorated graphitic carbon nitride quantum dots (CeO 2 –AuNPs–g-CNQDs) were synthesized, which produced high ECL emission with coreactant K 2 S 2 O 8 for “switch-on” state. Noticeably, due to the reversible Ce 3+ ↔ Ce 4+ reaction, nano-CeO 2 could serve as highly-efficient coreaction accelerator and induce the decomposition of S 2 O 8 2− into SO 4 • - , which endowed the g-CNQDs/K 2 S 2 O 8 system with enhanced ECL emission. Moreover, AuNPs acted crucial role in promoting the electronic transmission rate and providing sites to immobilize the biomolecules. On the other hand, the AgNPs-VB 2 nanocomposites were used as dual labels to quench the ECL signal of g-CNQDs-K 2 S 2 O 8 system via ECL-RET, leading to the decreased ECL for “switch-off” state. On the basis of sandwich-typed immunosensing strategy, the developed ECL immunosensing platform exhibited sensitive response to PSA in a linear range of 1.0 × 10 −5 _ 50 ng mL −1 with a low detection limit of 0.0045 pg mL −1 ( S/N = 3). This work provided a promising tool in early clinical diagnostics of prostate cancer.

Paper-based sensors open a new avenue to produce easy-to-handle, inexpensive and simple-use analytical devices for widespread application fields in biological systems involving diagnosis, drug discovery and biosensing. In this manuscript, we constructed a fluorescence sensor based on functionalized paper coupled with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) etching for hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) determination in biological systems. A significant fluorescence signal was achieved by immobilizing CDs onto the surface of cellulose filter paper by covalent bonds. The CDs functionalized paper coupled with AgNPs composites platform (PCD/AgNPs) consisted of CDs functionalized paper (PCD) and a AgNPs layer which acted as a fluorescence quencher of CDs via a physical adsorption mechanism. With the introduction of H2O2, the AgNPs were etched accompanied by the fluorescence recovery. As the target, a good linear relationship of a fluorescence turn-on response toward H2O2 between 10 and 120 μM was obtained with a limit of detection of 1.38 μM in our sensor. The designed sensor demonstrated good specificity and would have broad application prospects in the detection of milk samples and determination of H2O2 released from cancer cells.

Improving the speediness of complex sample analysis has attracted much research interest in analytical science. In this work, an enrichment-sensing all-in-one strategy was presented for rapid surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) analysis of purine components by using the La(OH)3-Au@AgNPs nanocomposite. Two-dimensional (2D) La(OH)3 nanosheets with nanothickness and accessible active sites not only acted as efficient media for the rapid enrichment of analytes but also provided flat planes for the intensive decoration of Au@AgNPs nanoparticles to amplify the SERS signals of adsorbed analytes. The nanocomposite could realize the rapid enrichment-sensing of purine components in 1 min, including mercaptopurine, thioguanine, adenine, and purine. Subsequently, the surface adsorption behaviors were explored by density functional theory and the enhancement mechanisms were simulated by the finite-difference time-domain method. Moreover, the nanocomposite also exhibited good SERS performances with relative standard deviations (RSDs) of uniformity less than 6.5% (n = 23), RSDs of batch-to-batch stability less than 7.3% (n = 9), and long-term stability over 9 weeks with RSDs within 6.6%. Finally, the enrichment-sensing strategy was applied for the rapid SERS analysis of two projects: mercaptopurine in tablets and adenine in beers with detection limits of 6.0 and 0.76 μg/L and spiked recoveries of 90.9–100 and 84.2–101%, respectively. Benefiting from the high-performance enrichment medium and closely packed plasmonic nanoparticles, the enrichment-sensing all-in-one strategy possesses great potential for rapid on-site detection in food safety and pharmaceutical analysis.

In this study, we developed a method for synthesizing silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using aqueous assembly assay and anchoring them with camellia seed cake polyphenols (CPs). Zeta potential analysis demonstrated a higher binding affinity of CP-AgNPs to Penicillium digitatum , which could be attributed to the interaction between the hydroxyl group of CP-AgNPs and the polysaccharide present on the fungal cell wall. Compared to AgNPs, the CP-AgNPs outperformed conventional AgNPs in antifungal activity against P. digitatum . The mechanism underlying this antimicrobial effect involves raising the level of oxidative stress by regulating the expression levels of oxidative stress response genes. In addition, CP-AgNPs/CS showed highly effective in reducing citrus decay levels during chamber storage. In conclusion, the use of CPs as anchoring agent in the in-situ aqueous assembly of CP-AgNPs improved their biocompatibility and antimicrobial properties. CP-AgNPs hold great promise for applications in fruit preservation, especially citrus preservation.

In this study, cloud point extraction (CPE) combined inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) was used to determinate silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) in environmental water. AgNPs dispersed in water could be extracted into surfactant phase based on optimized CPE parameters which including pH, incubation temperature and equilibration time, the content of nonionic surfactants (Triton X-114, TX-114) and Na 2 S 3 O 3 . Good separation results of AgNPs and ionic silver Ag(I) in aqueous environment was obtained with the addition of Na 2 S 3 O 3 when the concentration of Ag(I) was lower than ten times of AgNPs. High recoveries of different diameter AgNPs spiked into ultrapure water were obtained. The influence of environmentally relevant matrix on CPE of AgNPs was studied in detail. Our results showed that there were little interference of environmentally relevant ions and five representative engineering nanomaterials (ENMs) on CPE of AgNPs. Moreover high recoveries and good separation were obtained when natural organic matter (NOM) up to 30 mg/L mixed with AgNPs in ultrapure water. The detection limit of AgNPs in water using CPE combined ICPMS was 5 ng/L. The recoveries of the AgNPs spiked into natural and effluents water with this method were in the range of 79±1–123±13%. Furthermore CPE-ICPMS and Single particle-ICPMS were used to study the UV induced photochemical transformations of AgNPs suspension at environmental relevant concentrations.

The detection of heavy metals in tea infusions is important because of the potential health risks associated with their consumption. Existing highly sensitive detection methods pose challenges because they are complicated and time-consuming. In this study, we developed an innovative and simple method using Ag nanoparticles-modified resin (AgNPs-MR) for pre-enrichment prior to laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy for the simultaneous analysis of Cr (III), Cu (II), and Pb (II) in tea infusions. Signal enhancement using AgNPs-MR resulted in amplification with limits of detection of 0.22 μg L −1 for Cr (III), 0.33 μg L −1 for Cu (II), and 1.25 μg L −1 for Pb (II). Quantitative analyses of these ions in infusions of black tea from various brands yielded recoveries ranging from 83.3% to 114.5%. This method is effective as a direct and highly sensitive technique for precisely quantifying trace concentrations of heavy metals in tea infusions.
