Urchin-like Cu-W18O49 and flower-like Cu-WO3 structures were successfully synthesized using a hydrothermal process followed by calcination. The synthesized products were characterized using XRD, SEM, and TEM. The results revealed that the as-prepared urchin-like and flower-like samples with monoclinic structures, which were approximately 1 μm and 1-2 μm, respectively, possessed microflower architecture assembled by the nanosheet. In addition, the gas sensing properties of monoclinic-structured Cu-WO3 to acetone were measured using a static state gas sensing test system. The sensor based on the flower-like Cu-WO3 nanostructures, which were calcined at 600°C, exhibited high sensitivity toward 10 ppm acetone at an optimum temperature of 110°C, and the maximum sensitivity reached 40, which was approximately four times higher than that of urchin-like WO3 that was annealed at 300°C. The sensitivity was improved by increasing the acetone concentration. The detection limit was as low as 1 ppm. Using linear fit, the sensor was determined to be sufficiently sensitive to detect acetone in a detection range of 1 to 10 ppm even in the presence of interfering gases, which suggests that this type of sensor has excellent selectivity and has the potential for use in acetone gas sensors in the future.

Developing a facile method to fabricate new heterogeneous Metal-Organic Framework (MOFs) based catalysts with high catalytic activity and stability has drawn significant attention. Herein, we demonstrate a simple in-situ pyrolysis reduction strategy to fabricate a novel three-dimensional (3D) Cu-based catalyst, which displays an outstanding performance for the decomposition of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP). Detailed characterization including SEM , FTIR, XPS , ICP-OES, HRTEM , SAED , XRD and BET confirmed the formation of the Cu/C porous composites (Cu/C-PC). Taking advantage of enormous Cu particles in the composite as well as ultrahigh surface area (196.7 m 2 /g) of carbon support, Cu/C-PC presents prominent catalytic activity for the hydrogenation reduction 4-NP to 4-aminophenol (4-AP) with apparent rate constant ( K app ) of 0.0267 s −1 (the ratio of K app to the catalyst amount is 119 s −1 g −1 ), which is dramatically higher than that previous reports. On the contrary, after being washed successively (Cu/C-PC-AW) by FeCl 3 , HCl aqueous solution and deionized water , the Cu/C porous composite materials exhibit fairly weak catalytic activity. The catalytic performance of Cu/C-PC is better than Cu, Cu 2 O and CuO nanoparticles as well as other catalysts in previous reports. Furthermore, Cu/C-PC shows excellent reusability, indicating its potential applications in treatment of water pollution.

Although considerable progress has been achieved by Cu nanoparticles for catalyzing CO 2 reduction reaction (CO2RR), Cu single atom catalysts (Cu SACs) are generally suffered from inferior performance to that of widely investigated Fe, Co, Ni SACs. This phenomenon mainly ascribes to the lack of effective geometry and electronic engineering of copper active center from an atomic level. Herein, highly exposed atomically dispersed Cu-N x ( x denotes Cu–N coordination number) sites anchored on 3D porous carbon matrix are successfully synthesized through facile one step thermal activation, and Cu-N 4 sites exhibit boosted activity and selectivity compared to its nearly inert Cu-N 3 counterparts. Aided by density functional theory (DFT) calculations, the edge-hosted Cu-N 4 moieties are revealed as key active sites for efficient CO generation via optimized local coordination environment and electronic properties, which strongly interact with *COOH intermediate and facilitate the desorption of *CO. As a result, Cu-N 4 catalyst achieves high CO Faradaic efficiency (FE CO ) of over 90% from −0.6 to −1.1 V vs . RHE with a maximum value of 98%, surpassing the previously reported Cu SACs for CO 2 -to-CO conversion. This work provides new insight into proper Cu SACs design and fundamental mechanism understanding to boost CO2RR.

Cu-SSZ-13/cordierite monolithic catalyst was prepared by in situ hydrothermal synthesis method. The physicochemical properties of the as-prepared Cu-SSZ-13/cordierite were investigated by X-ray diffraction analysis, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, N 2 -adsorption, inductively coupled plasma, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and solid-state NMR techniques. The removal of nitrogen oxides (NO x ) from simulated diesel vehicle exhaust gas was performed using fixed-bed reactor. The effects of crystallization time and addition of HF during hydrothermal synthesis, reaction space velocity, and aging treatment of catalyst on the catalytic performances of NO x reduction reactions were investigated. The results indicate that the optimum crystallization time was 72 h. Highly crystalline structure of zeolite Cu-SSZ-13 was formed, in a close combination with a carrier, via one step hydrothermal process. Cu-SSZ-13/cordierite showed excellent DeNO x performance for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and anti-aging properties in a simulated diesel exhaust gas under a high space velocity. At a high space velocity of 72,000 h −1 , the highest conversion and N 2 selectivity of 94% and 90%, respectively, were achieved. After the aging for 50 h at 720 °C, NO x reduction rate was still >80% in the temperature range of 350–550 °C. The larger height to diameter ratio of the same catalysts enhanced the NH 3 -SCR catalytic activity and broadened the active temperature window. The addition of HF increased the catalytic activity and anti-aging performance of the sample.

The conversion of CO2 into value-added chemicals by employing renewable energy via an electrochemical process has received increasing attention. However, the low reaction rate and efficiency, as well as poor selectivity, have limited its further development. The low solubility of CO2 in an aqueous solution is one of the main factors that limit the reaction rate and selectivity of the electroreduction of CO2 (ERC) at a high overpotential. In this study, an organic additive containing an –NH2 group (methyl carbamate, MC) was incorporated into the ERC electrolyte for the first time. By utilizing the affinity interaction between a Lewis acid (the –NH3+ group formed by protonation of the –NH2 group) and a Lewis base (CO2), the ERC reaction rate was increased by 17%, and the faradaic efficiency for the production of CH4 reached 81.6%, which represented a large increase of 34% and surpassed that of most reported Cu electrodes. Furthermore, the partial current density for the production of CH4 was 31 mA cm−2 at −2.13 V (vs. RHE), which represents an increase of 30% in comparison with that in the blank system. In addition, the competitive hydrogen evolution reaction was substantially inhibited, and the decline in faradaic efficiency increased from 38.5% to 48.1% when the potential decreased gradually from −1.63 V to −1.98 V (vs. RHE). DFT calculations further indicate that the –NH3+ group can significantly promote the adsorption of CO* and CHO* on the Cu surface and increase the surface coverage of both intermediates. CHO* can be further stabilized by the –NH3+ group via the facilitation of partial electron transfer from Cu to C and the formation of H-bonds, which is favorable for further hydrogenation to form hydrocarbons. These results provide a simple and powerful way to increase the reaction rate and product selectivity of the reduction of CO2.

The Cu/TiO 2 catalysts with the addition of Eu were developed by the sol-gel way for the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO x by NH 3 . Activity tests revealed that CuEu/TiO 2 -0.15 catalyst showed the optimal de-NO x performance in a wide temperature range (150–300 °C), along with an admirable SO 2 tolerance. According to characterization analysis, the relationship between the NH 3 -SCR performance and physicochemical characters of samples was explored. The adjunction of Eu on Cu/TiO 2 catalyst can contribute to the formation of a large amount of Cu 2+ , adsorbed oxygen, and acid sites on the catalyst surface. Moreover, the Eu addition on Cu/TiO 2 is favorable to the generation of activated NO x and NH 3 substances adsorbed on the catalyst surface, which would conduce to the NH 3 -SCR process by Langmuir-Hinshelwood (L-H) mechanism effectively.

The Fenton-based oxidation process is an effective wastewater treatment approach for degrading organic pollutants. However, it has limitations in terms of pH range and secondary pollution. Cu(II)-mediated Fenton-like oxidation presents a promising alternative for applications. In this work, experimental approaches were integrated with kinetic modeling analysis to understand the production, performance and reaction mechanism of active species during the Cu(II)/H 2 O 2 process. Chemical probe analysis and electron paramagnetic resonance information verified the presence and properties of ·OH and Cu(III) in the Cu(II)/H 2 O 2 process. By using the periodate colorimetric technique, the relationship between reaction conditions and the generation of Cu(III) was further clarified. Together with theoretical analysis, the contribution of ·OH and Cu(III) to the elimination of bisphenol A (BPA) in the Cu(II)/H 2 O 2 process was examined. Quantitative analysis demonstrated that ·OH played a pivotal role under acidic conditions, accounting for 54.06 % and 62.06 % of BPA removal at pH 4 and 6, respectively. However, a dramatic shift occurred under alkaline conditions, where ·OH contributions decreased substantially to·3.35 % and 0.89 % at pH 10 and 12, respectively. The kinetic model for the removal of BPA by Cu(II)/H 2 O 2 process was calculated as V= 0.236·[BPA] 0.173 ·[Cu(II)] 0.619 ·[H 2 O 2 ] 1.556 using one-eighth lifetime method. Furthermore, Cu(III) was found to be more reactive toward the benzene ring than ·OH. This work contributes to our understanding of the Cu(II)-mediated Fenton-like oxidation process, and it could offer a promising new method for treating refractory organic wastewater.

CO2 hydrogenation is one of the key technologies for carbon recycling and greenhouse effect mitigation. Cu-based catalysts have been widely used in the hydrogenation of CO2 to methanol. However, the low catalytic efficiency and instability of Cu-based catalysts limit their industrial application. Herein, a Zr-based metal−organic framework was used to synthesize a Cu NWs@ZrO2 catalyst with a Cu-ZrO2 interface. The Cu NWs@ZrO2 catalyst shows high activity with promising selectivity and excellent stability for the synthesis of methanol from CO2 hydrogenation. Density functional theory calculations and in situ diffuse reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy confirmed that the CO2 hydrogenation on Cu NWs@ZrO2 followed the HCOO* pathway, and the Cu-ZrO2 interface made a significant contribution to the key intermediate step of CO2 to HCOO* and accelerated the CO2 hydrogenation.

Designing an active Cu/ZnO interface is crucial for efficient catalytic hydrogenation of CO 2 to methanol. In this study, we introduce a straightforward impregnation method to synthesize HKUST-1-derived inverse ZnO x /Cu catalysts. The resulting ZnO x /Cu interface exhibits outstanding methanol space-time yield and selectivity, surpassing conventional Cu/ZnO catalysts synthesized via the co-precipitation and impregnation methods. In situ characterization reveals that small, well-dispersed ZnO x nanoparticles are located on moderately sized Cu nanoparticles, which is attributed to the high specific surface area and ligand coordination of HKUST-1. The inverse ZnO x /Cu structure promotes the formation of reduced ZnO x nanoparticles, which significantly enhance CO 2 and H 2 activation, resulting in increased methanol production. Additionally, the moderate size of Cu nanoparticles minimizes CO* intermediate formation, further enhancing methanol selectivity. This work not only offers valuable insights for the development of new Cu/ZnO catalysts but also provides guidance for the synthesis of inverse metal oxide/metal catalysts for other catalytic systems.

Electrochemical conversion of nitrate to valuable ammonia is a promising but challenging study of wastewater treatment and resource recovery. Herein, we reported an MXene-Cu lamellar electrified membrane with confined channels as a flow-through electrode for ammonia (NH3) synthesis by nitrate (NO3–) reduction. The introduction of Cu nanoparticles into Ti3C2Tx-stacked membranes could broaden their plane channels to improve the mass transfer while confining their permeability to achieve modulation of the water flux. By coordination of the catalytic capacity of Cu nanoparticles as well as the tunable water flux, the Ti3C2Tx-Cu flow-through membrane electrodes exhibited excellent electrocatalytic performance. Particularly, in a closed-cycle flow-through mode, the optimized Ti3C2Tx-Cu membranes were able to convert NO3– to NH3 efficiently, even at high feed concentrations. In addition, these membrane electrodes possessed not only excellent long-term durability but also resistance to organic dye contaminations due to their inherent rejection capability, which allowed them to maintain stable electrocatalytic properties in complex solutions. This work demonstrates that the use of MXene-based electrified membranes with confined channels as flow-through electrodes may be an alternative strategy to achieve sustainable NO3– decontamination and NH3 synthesis, which will conduce to the practical application of specific electrified membranes in the electrochemistry field.

The development of an efficient and cost-effective electrocatalyst for the Hydrogen Evolution Reaction (HER) that can be widely applied in industrial settings poses a multifaceted challenge. This research involved fabricating a NiCo-LDH/Cu electrode as a self-supported catalyst for hydrogen evolution on nickel foam using a solvothermal method and constant potential electrodeposition. In comparison to the NiCu electrocatalyst produced through a single-step electrodeposition, the NiCo-LDH/Cu hydrogen evolution electrode prepared via this combined approach exhibited significant electrocatalytic performance for HER in an alkaline electrolyte. The NiCo-LDH/Cu catalytic electrode requires only an overpotential of 78.0 mV to achieve a current density of 10 mA·cm −2 in 1 M KOH. The current density required to catalyze the hydrogenation reaction is reduced by 64 % compared to pure nickel foam. This reduction accelerates the hydrogenation catalytic reaction and enhances electrochemical stability. The remarkable HER efficiency of the NiCo-LDH/Cu catalytic electrode primarily stems from the increased active surface area facilitated by the LDH structure and the synergistic impact generated during the NiCu co-deposition process. This work shows an economical and practical method for developing efficient non-precious metal catalytic electrodes.
