Addressing the global challenge of waste plastic management, catalytic cracking utilizing zeolite catalysts offers a sustainable approach for converting plastics into valuable products. The acidity and diffusion of zeolites play a critical role in determining the efficiency of this process. However, conventional aluminum-containing zeolites exhibit excessive acidity, which results in increased gas formation and a diminished yield of liquid products. Additionally, microporous zeolites with limited diffusion of large molecules significantly impair their activity and overall utilization efficiency. In this study, we developed gallium-modified MFI zeolite catalysts (Ga-MFI) that possess a well-balanced micro- and mesoporosity along with controlled acidity. These Ga-MFI catalysts exhibited enhanced diffusion properties and moderate acidity, which contributed to an improved gasoline yield (64.84–77.69%), alongside a significant reduction in liquefied gas yield (from 23.21% to 13.07%) during the catalytic cracking of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) when compared to the ZSM-5 catalyst. Furthermore, the Ga-MFI catalysts demonstrated a significant enhancement in the selectivity for cycloalkenes within the liquid products, increasing from 35.62% to 51.53%. This improvement can be attributed to the promotion of bimolecular cracking reactions occurring on moderate acidic sites, which facilitate olefin formation, as well as the high concentration of Lewis acid sites that aid in the dehydrogenation of cycloalkanes to cyclo-olefins. These findings underscore the potential of Ga-MFI zeolite as a promising catalyst for the sustainable conversion of plastic wastes.

Rationally regulating the photogenerated carrier transfer behavior and band structure of TiO2 through metal doping is an effective strategy for enhancing the photocatalytic activity in the removal of malodorous gas hydrogen sulfide (H2S). In this study, TiO2 modified with the doping of Group IIIA metal ions (Al3+, Ga3+, and In3+) was utilized as an efficient photocatalytic desulfurizer under ultraviolet irradiation. Among these samples, the 4% In-TiO2 exhibited the best photocatalytic H2S removal efficiency of 100% for a duration of 120 min, nearly 3 times higher than that of commercial P25 TiO2. The UV–vis DRS and PL spectra demonstrated that the incorporation of Group-IIIA metal ions into TiO2 resulted in the formation of a shallow acceptor level above the valence band in the energy band structure, which induced a slight redshift at the edge of the visible light absorption band and reduced the electron–hole recombination rate. In situ DRIFTS and DFT calculations revealed that the adsorption and activation of H2S occurred simultaneously on In-TiO2, facilitated by its strong oxygen vacancy formation and adsorption capability. The ln3+ doping into TiO2 promoted photothermal-catalytic oxidation reaction on the surfaces of In-TiO2, thereby significantly enhancing the desulfurization efficiency of H2S. This study not only offers a deeper understanding of the regulated band structure of TiO2 by doping of Group IIIA metal ions, but also provides a promising and green photocatalytic desulfurizer of In-TiO2 for efficient removal of H2S.

The advancement of environmentally benign I–III–VI colloidal quantum dots (QDs) has established a promising materials platform to replace cadmium-based counterparts. However, in practical device architectures, especially blue-emitting devices, abundant surface nonradiative recombination centers and imbalanced carrier injection often lead to suboptimal device performance, thereby hindering their deployment in display technologies. Herein, we employ a zinc iodide (ZnI2) post-treatment for the Cu–Ga–Zn–S (CGZS) QDs film strategy, effectively passivating surface defects and nonradiative sites, thereby enhancing device performance. The treated QDs facilitate the formation of an interface dipole, which effectively elevates the overall energy levels of the QDs while simultaneously reducing the hole injection barrier, leading to an enhanced hole injection efficiency. Working in concert, these effects facilitate balanced carrier injection and optimize exciton recombination, thereby boosting the device efficiency and operational stability. Consequently, the peak external quantum efficiency (EQE) exhibits a favorable improvement, increasing from 1.01% in the pristine device to 1.90% after treatment. This work offers an effective approach to achieving balanced carrier injection in quantum-dot light-emitting diodes (QLEDs) and establishes a solid foundation for the development of high-performance, cadmium-free, blue-emitting QLEDs.

Conductive hydrogels have attracted tremendous attention in fabricating flexible strain sensors as highly stretchable and biocompatible strain sensing materials. However, fabricating a multifunctional conductive hydrogel simultaneously with high toughness and high sensing performance for monitoring subtle strain is still a great challenge. Herein, we developed a new conductive hydrogel by using poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS) and xanthan gum (XG) costabilized soft Ga droplets as conductive materials and using the in situ synthesized and chemically crosslinked polyacrylamide (PAM) as the hydrogel matrix. The PEDOT:PSS simultaneously constitutes a rigid conductive network with Ga droplets, and XG constitutes a rigid sacrificial network. The Ga droplets simultaneously promote the in situ free radical synthesis and crosslinking of PAM at room temperature. The as-prepared XG-PEDOT-Ga-PAM hydrogel shows high toughness, good moldability and adhesiveness. XG-PEDOT-Ga-PAM hydrogel-based strain sensor shows a very high sensitivity (gauge factor = 12.6 in the strain range of 175%–300%), short response/recovery time (250 ms), low detection limit (<0.1%) and excellent durability (>500 cycles). The excellent sensing performance of the hydrogel-based strain sensor enabled it to be highly competent in accurately monitoring various human activities from subtle radial pulses to large-scale human joint bending.

Reported powdery adsorbents with poor adsorption efficiency and stability make it imperative to develop novel materials to extract gallium ions (Ga(III)) from effluents. Herein, UiO-66-NH 2 -based mixed matrix membranes (TPU/0.1THB/U6N-1.5 MMMs) via electrospinning is firstly reported for separation and recovery of Ga(III). TPU/0.1THB/U6N-1.5 MMMs efficiently overcomes multiple bottlenecks of powder UiO-66-NH 2 , including poor stability, reusability and adsorption capacity. Its maximum adsorption for Ga(III) is 96.18 mg·g −1 at pH 10.0. It has superiority in selective adsorption of Ga(III) from Al(III), Cu(II), Zn(II), Co(II) coexistence solution. Adsorption capacity of TPU/0.1THB/U6N-1.5 for Ga(III) reaches more than 80% after 9 cycles. Specially, it still retains excellent mechanical strength, flexibility and structural integrity after 12 h filtration, or after 9 adsorption-desorption cycles, even soaked in 5 mol·L -1 HCl for a week. TPU/0.1THB/U6N-1.5 MMMs also improves the problem of low water flux. TPU/0.1THB/U6N-1.5 with high MOFs loading possess high water flux of 382.2 L·m −2 ·h −1 with a permance of 382.2 L·m −2 ·h −1 ·bar −1 and rejection rates of 90% for Ga(III). The main adsorption mechanism of TPU/0.1THB/U6N-1.5 is based on the chelation between phenolic hydroxyl groups of MMMs and Ga(III) at pH 10.0. Overall, the as-prepared TPU/0.1THB/U6N-1.5 has potential for water treatment through the process of membrane adsorption.

We report the preparation of gallic acid (GA)-modified MoS 2 nanosheets (MoS 2 @GA) with high Fe(III) loading. The MoS 2 @GA-Fe can function as a “Fenton Nanoreactor” in the tumor microenvironment (TME), in which GA-Fe(III) can be reduced to GA-Fe(II) by glutathione (GSH) and amounts of reactive hydroxyl radicals (•OH) are generated during the Fenton reaction. Notably, the MoS 2 degrades into small fragments during the process, and more Mo(IV) reaction sites are exposed on the surface, resulting in a “snowball effect” and enhanced •OH production. Furthermore, unsaturated S atoms can capture protons in the TME and form hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S). We combined the photoacoustic imaging and magnetic resonance imaging contrast properties of MoS 2 @GA-Fe and constructed an imaging-guided chemodynamic treatment, featuring excellent antitumor efficiency and biosafety. The TME-responsive “Fenton Nanoreactor” provides a promising strategy with enhanced translational potency for tumor therapy.

To study the application perspectives of binary Ga–Al alloy electrodes in pyroprocessing, the utilization of Ga–Al alloy electrode for the separation of U from Ce was studied in this work. Specifically, the reduction behaviors of U (III) on Ga, Al and Ga–Al alloy electrodes was first explored in LiCl–KCl eutectic at 773 K. The cathode peak potential of U (III) at the Ga–Al alloy electrode was 0.44 V (vs. Li/Li 3 Bi), and less affected by the Ga/Al ratio. Moreover, potentiostatic electrolysis at 0.55 V (vs. Li/Li 3 Bi) was conducted on the Ga–Al alloy electrode for 4 h to separate U from Ce. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis indicated the co-existence of Al 3 U and Ga 3 U with an identical crystal structure in the deposits. Scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) illustrated a good diffusion of U metal in Ga–Al alloy electrodes. Inductive coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) determinations exhibited an excellent separation performance of the Ga–Al alloy electrode.

A non-hydrazine solution process has been considered as a promising way for the deposition of Cu(In,Ga)(S,Se)2(CIGSSe) thin films. However, from our previous work, the presence of a fine-grained layer in the absorber layer was shown to be an obstacle to further improve the solar cell efficiency. Here, an improved fabrication route is proposed to solve this problem. A mixture of Cu2S, In2Se3, Ga and Se was simultaneously dissolved in 1,2-ethanedithiol and 1,2-ethylenediamine, forming a homogeneous precursor solution to deposit CIGSSe nanocrystal films. By optimizing the selenization method by using rapid thermal processing (RTP) combined with an improved graphite box, large grains throughout the whole absorber layer were successfully obtained. Based on such a high-quality CIGSSe absorber layer, an encouraging power conversion efficiency of 11.8% has been achieved with a Jsc of 28.25 mA cm−2, a Voc of 596 mV and a FF of 69.79% and without an antireflection coating.

Bi 2 WO 6 /g-C 3 N 4 (BC) Z -scheme heterojunction assembled with graphene aerogel (GA) was successfully prepared by a simple hydrothermal associated with natural seasoning method. The physico-chemical, morphological and photoelectric properties of the Bi 2 WO 6 /g-C 3 N 4 /GA (BCGA) composite was characterized by various instruments, and its photocatalysis performance for persulfate (PDS) activation was explored in the removal of ciprofloxacin (CIP) under simulated sunlight (SSL) irradiation. The optimal mass ratio of BC was 30 % (abbreviated as BCGA-30) in BCGA. Under the optimal conditions (10 mg/L CIP, 50 mg/L PDS, pH = 6.66 and 0.2 g/L BCGA-30), the degradation rate of CIP was 94.3 %, which was 4.18 times that of BC. As the carrier of BC, GA could promote the light absorption and the photo-induced electron transfer of BCGA-30. The removal efficiency of CIP was remained at 80.2 % after five cycles, illustrating that BCGA-30 had an excellent repeatability. Based on the results of the energy band structures , HR-TEM, XPS and free radical quenching experiments, the heterojunction type of composites and possible photocatalytic activation mechanism during CIP degradation were confirmed over BCGA-30/PDS/SSL system. The BCGA-30/PDS/SSL system might be a potential treatment process for the removal of antibiotics wastewater.

The DCMD technology for wastewater treatment is very promising. However, it is easily suffered by membrane fouling and wetting. In this study, a Janus membrane was fabricated by coating polyvinylamine (PVAM) and gallic acid (GA) onto one side of a PVDF composite membrane, which another side is covered with POTS-SiO 2 . The PVAM and GA side could bind water to form a hydration layer, thus repel the contaminants. The POTS-SiO 2 side was superhydrophobicity and prevented the membrane wetting. Finally, The Janus membrane presented exceptional performance in separating salt containing emulsified oil by DCMD. It kept a stable flux of 17.0 ± 0.2 Kg·m −2 ·h −1 and a low level conductivity of 0.60 ± 0.02 μS/cm in the cold side during the 36 h DCMD procedure, compared with the pristine PVDF membrane and the PVDF/POTS-SiO 2 membrane. The results presented simultaneously antifouling and antiwetting properties of the Janus membrane. While the Janus membrane can be well used in desalination of emulsified oil containing salt, it has a great potential for application to treat other complex wastewater.

The migration, transformation, and enrichment of strategic metal elements in coal in the process of coal processing and utilization are significant for their effective extraction and application. In this work, the migration, transformation, and enrichment of Li, Ga, Ge, In, and Re during coal pyrolysis were investigated by six-step sequential chemical extraction. The results showed that Li mainly exists in a residual state in raw coal and pyrolytic products under 500 ℃; however, the content of sulfide state Li increases largely when the pyrolysis temperature exceeds 500 ℃. Ga mainly enriches in residual form, and the content of Ga in the residual state rises with the pyrolysis temperature increasing. Ge mainly presents in the form of carbonate-binding state, sulfide state, and residual state. As the temperature rises to higher than 500 ℃, Ge combines with the carbon and oxygen compounds produced by pyrolysis to form a carbonate-binding state, resulting in a significant increase in its content. The content of Ge in the residual state also increases significantly. The ratio of carbonate-binding state and organic state In gradually decreases with the increase of pyrolysis temperature, while that of residual state In gradually increases. Due to the low content of Re, the reliability of the test results is poor. However, Re may exist in sulfide, organic, and residual states. With the pyrolysis temperature increasing, Li, Ga, Ge, In, and Re in pyrolysis products are more likely to combine with aluminosilicate than those in raw coal.

Cu(In, Ga)(S, Se) 2 (CIGSSe) solar cell is one of the most promising thin-film solar cells with a record power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 23.6%. Conventional CIGSSe thin-film solar cells are usually fabricated on Mo-coated soda-lime glass substrate, thereby, the sunlight on the rear side cannot be utilized by the monofacial CIGSSe solar cells owing to the opacity of the Mo electrode. CIGSSe solar cells fabricated on transparent conductive oxide (TCO) electrode enable to fabricate bifacial solar cells, which can generate power on both sides of solar cells, so that bifacial solar cells have a high potential application in building-integrated photovoltaics. However, the PCEs of CIGSSe solar cells fabricated on TCO substrates are significantly lower than those of ones on Mo substrates. In this article, bifacial CIGSSe solar cells on fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) substrate are fabricated by using an ionic liquid-assisted solution approach and utilizing a MoO 3 thin film as an interface layer between FTO and CIGSSe absorber layer, yielding a front-side PCE of 9.73% and a back-side PCE of 1.77%.
