A continuous and dense ZIF-8 membrane was successfully synthesized on α-Al 2 O 3 supports via a combined approach of ammonia modulation and solvothermal synthesis. A unique synergistic promoting effect between ammonia solution and ZnO nanoarrays was identified through comparative investigation of ammonia and ethylenediamine as alkaline additives. The as-prepared membranes were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TG), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Experimental results demonstrated that ammonia facilitates rapid conversion of the ZnO interlayer, shortens crystallization time, and mitigates intracrystalline defects, while an appropriate increase in 2-methylimidazole (2-MIM) concentration enhances ZIF-8 crystal growth and crystallization—collectively ensuring membrane continuity and denseness. Gas separation performance tests indicated that when the 2-MIM concentration was 0.05 mol·L −1 with ammonia addition, the ZIF-8 membrane exhibited a substantially high H 2 /CO 2 selectivity of 15.04, exceeding the corresponding Knudsen diffusion selectivity. This study effectively enhances the structural integrity and separation performance of ZIF-8 membranes.

GO kinetically reconstructs intrinsic S-scheme charge flux without altering its thermodynamic direction. • The GO bridge accelerates directional interfacial charge migration. • Continuous charge redistribution regulates Cd-site H* adsorption energetics. Interfacial charge regulation is crucial for improving S-scheme photocatalysts, yet the kinetic role of carbonaceous interfacial bridges remains insufficiently understood. Herein, graphene oxide (GO) is introduced into a directly contacted g-C 3 N 4 /CdS S-scheme heterojunction to reconstruct its interfacial charge-transport network. The direct g-C 3 N 4 /CdS heterointerface determines the S-scheme charge-transfer direction through Fermi-level equilibration, band bending, and the resulting built-in electric field, whereas interfacially distributed GO primarily functions as an auxiliary charge bridge that strengthens electronic coupling and lowers the kinetic resistance of selective low-energy carrier recombination. In situ irradiated X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and electron paramagnetic resonance, combined with work-function analysis, reveal directional photoinduced charge redistribution consistent with a GO-assisted S-scheme pathway. Photoluminescence, transient photocurrent, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy further demonstrate suppressed charge recombination and improved interfacial carrier transport. Density functional theory calculations show that GO extends interfacial charge redistribution and shifts the calculated H* adsorption free energy at the Cd site closer to thermoneutrality relative to binary g-C 3 N 4 /CdS, yielding a ΔG H⁎ value of −0.29 eV. Consequently, g-C 3 N 4 /3GO/40CdS achieves a visible-light-driven H 2 evolution rate of 816.2 μmol g −1 h −1 , approximately 2.4 times that of binary g-C 3 N 4 /40CdS. Sonodynamic therapy (SDT) has emerged as a research hotspot in tumor therapy due to its non-invasiveness, non-toxicity and high penetrability, as it activates sonosensitizers to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) for tumor cell ablation under ultrasound irradiation. However, its therapeutic efficacy is severely compromised by the rapid electron-hole recombination of sonosensitizers, tumor hypoxia and high intracellular glutathione (GSH) levels in the tumor microenvironment. Herein, we developed a nanoreactor AB@CZP@HO to achieve synergistic antitumor effects of SDT and hydrogen therapy. Based on carbon-doped hollow porous CZ, this material features unique carbon doping and oxygen vacancies that inhibit electron-hole recombination, thus enhancing its piezoelectric coefficient and ultrasound-induced ROS generation capacity. Pt atoms deposited on the CZ surface form CZP, whose catalase-like activity catalyzes the decomposition of intracellular hydrogen H 2 O 2 to produce O 2 , alleviating tumor hypoxia and providing more substrates for SDT. The loaded ammonia borane with high hydrogen storage capacity enables high-load intratumoral hydrogen delivery and pH-responsive release. The released H 2 disrupts the redox homeostasis and mitochondrial membrane integrity of tumor cells, synergizing with SDT. The surface-modified hyaluronic acid (HA) derivative HO depletes intratumoral GSH via affinity substitution reaction, further boosting SDT efficacy. This design integrates the rational fabrication of piezoelectric materials, tumor microenvironment remodeling and hydrogen therapy synergy, which collectively enhance the therapeutic efficacy of SDT. Statement of Significance This study aims to develop a nanoreactor (AB@CZP@HO) for highly efficient sonodynamic therapy (SDT) of tumors through the fabrication of a highly responsive piezoelectric sonosensitizer, modulation of the tumor microenvironment (TME), and synergy with hydrogen gas therapy. Hydrogen can disrupt the intracellular redox balance and impair the integrity of mitochondrial membranes, thereby enhancing the therapeutic efficacy of SDT and overcoming the limitations of SDT as a monotherapy. This multifunctional nanoreactor integrates multiple functional modules and is expected to provide a novel and effective strategy for tumor SDT, breaking through the limitations of existing therapeutic approaches. Preparation of upconversion efficient In-TCPP via an “ internally-empowered “ Strategy. • Synergistic enhancement of light absorption and charge carrier migration via the upconversion effect and IEF. • The ITE has highly efficient photocatalytic production capacity of H 2 . The practical application of photocatalytic hydrogen production is primarily constrained by high charge carrier recombination rates and low light utilization efficiency. Herein, upconversion elements Er 3+ was introduced into the In-TCPP framework to prepare In-TCPP-Er-X% (ITE-X%). The ITE-3% demonstrated the optimal photocatalytic hydrogen evolution rate of 183 μmol·g −1 ·h −1 , representing 1.99 times enhancement over In-TCPP. The introduction of Er 3+ not only endows In-TCPP with an upconversion effect but also optimizes its internal charge distribution, generating a strong built-in electric field (IEF) which confirmed by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), upconversion fluorescence (UCPL) and DFT. Under the synergistic effect of the upconversion and IEF, ITE-3% can more effectively utilize low-energy near-infrared (NIR) light and promote charge carrier separation, thereby achieving efficient photocatalytic hydrogen production. This work demonstrates the synergistic effect of upconversion and IEF in enhancing photocatalytic hydrogen evolution, thereby paving the way for broader NIR light application. Upconversion elements (Er 3+ ) was doped with In-TCPP. Under the synergistic effect of upconversion and built-in electric field, In-TCPP doped with Er 3+ (ITE-3%) exhibited enhanced light absorption and carrier migration capabilities, demonstrating optimal photocatalytic performance. The photocatalytic efficiency of covalent organic frameworks is often limited by poor charge separation and inaccessible catalytic sites. Here, we overcome these challenges by constructing a biomimetic “alveoli-on-lamina” heterostructure through coordination-directed assembly. This strategy concurrently exfoliates a bulk covalent organic framework into ordered lamellae and creates atomic-scale Co-N/O bridges, anchoring high-density, atomically dispersed cobalt sites. Crucially, this architecture spontaneously generates a multi-scale electric field, integrating a strong interfacial field for charge separation with an intra-structure potential gradient for directional electron transport. This field-driven vectorial charge flow delivers electrons to the catalytic sites, enabling a competitive photocatalytic performance: a hydrogen evolution rate of 534.6 mmol g -1 h -1 under standard irradiation without noble metals, an apparent quantum yield of 90.2% at 500 nm, and retained stability. This work demonstrates that engineering built-in electric fields across multiple scales is a valuable paradigm for advanced solar-to-fuel conversion.

CO 2 -assisted oxidative dehydrogenation of propane (CO 2 -ODHP) is a promising route for propylene production and CO 2 utilization, but catalyst sintering under harsh reaction and coke-burning conditions limits industrial deployment. Here, we report a practical regeneration strategy in which non-thermal H 2 plasma rapidly restores Au/MoS 2 catalysts that were deactivated by sintering at 600°C. The plasma treatment regioselectively reconstructs supported Au nanoparticles into raft-like Au domains enriched in unsaturated Au δ+ sites and stabilized by strong Au−S interactions, and this effect results in a 6.3-fold increase in propylene yield. The regenerated catalyst shows industrially relevant propylene productivity, high operational stability, and repeated regenerability. Mechanistic studies indicate that the Au rafts, electronically promoted by subsurface sulfur, facilitate propane C−H activation while accelerating hydrogen spillover and propylene desorption. These findings establish plasma-driven catalyst reconstruction as an effective regeneration strategy for light-alkane dehydrogenation and sustainable olefin production.

Catalytic NH3 decomposition has drawn growing interest in constructing the NH3-based hydrogen economy. Ni catalysts show great potential in this reaction but suffer from low atom utilization efficiency and unclear structure–activity relationship. Here, atomic layer deposition was used to grow Ni clusters on CeO2 nanorods to create a highly active catalyst for NH3 decomposition, which outperforms the conventional Ni nanoparticle catalysts and the synthesized Ni single-atom catalyst. The distinct catalytic behaviors of Ni clusters and Ni single atoms were systematically investigated. It is revealed that the interfacial confinement effect induces a strong electronic interaction between Ni clusters and CeO2, wherein abundant Ov-Ce3+ sites are formed in the vicinity of Ni clusters, resulting in interfacial electron-enriched Niδ− sites. These Niδ− sites bind to N adatoms moderately, favoring N–H bond cleavage and nitrogen desorption (the rate-determining step), which is the origin of the high activity. In contrast, ionic Ni single atoms diffusing into the CeO2 lattice display a much lower activity since strongly bound N adatoms block the active sites and retard the overall rate. This work provides a deep understanding of Ni-catalyzed NH3 decomposition and paves the way for designing high-performance metal catalysts for other structure-sensitive reactions.

Solar-driven photocatalytic water splitting offers a sustainable pathway to produce green hydrogen, yet its practical application encounters several challenges including inefficient photocatalysts, sluggish water oxidation, severe reverse reactions and the necessity of separating produced hydrogen and oxygen gases. Herein, we design and develop a photocatalytic system composed of two separate reaction parts: a hydrogen evolution cell containing halide perovskite photocatalysts (MoSe 2 -loaded CH(NH 2 ) 2 PbBr 3-x I x ) and an oxygen evolution cell containing NiFe-layered double hydroxide modified BiVO 4 photocatalysts. These components are bridged by a I 3 − /I − redox couple to facilitate electron transfer, realizing efficient overall water splitting with a solar-to-hydrogen conversion efficiency of 2.47 ± 0.03%. Additionally, an outdoor scaled-up setup of 692.5 cm 2 achieves an average solar-to-hydrogen conversion efficiency of 1.21% during a week-long test under natural sunlight. By addressing major limitations inherent in conventional photocatalytic systems, such as the cooccurrence of hydrogen and oxygen in a single cell and the resultant severe reverse reactions from hydrogen and oxygen recombination, this work introduces an alternative concept for photocatalytic system design, which enhances both efficiency and practicality.

The FeCo-LDH/Cd 1-x Zn x S nanocomposite was synthesized via an impregnation method, employing FeCo-LDH as a cocatalyst for simultaneous upcycling of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastics and photocatalytic hydrogen production. The 5 %LDH/Cd 0.5 Zn 0.5 S nanocomposite demonstrated an optimal hydrogen evolution rate of 3.67 mmol·g −1 ·h −1 in alkaline PET solution, which is 2.3 times higher than pristine Cd 0.5 Zn 0.5 S. Notably, the photocatalyst retained stable performance over six recycling tests without significant activity loss. Concurrently, PET oxidation by photogenerated holes yielded acetate as the primary product, achieving an 87 % yield. The real-world applicability of this approach was further validated through the successful photoreforming of a PET bottle. UV–vis DRS, TRPL, and PEC analyses revealed that the incorporation of appropriate amount of FeCo-LDH significantly enhanced charge carrier separation, thereby boosting the photocatalytic activity. Furthermore, UPS and DFT calculations elucidated the mechanistic pathway for PET conversion and hydrogen production over FeCo-LDH/Cd 0.5 Zn 0.5 S. This study presents a promising strategy for co-producing hydrogen and value-added chemicals from PET waste, highlighting its potential for practical recycling applications.

A key challenge in renewable energy is achieving cost-effective, industrial-scale hydrogen production through water splitting, which necessitates highly efficient epitaxial heterojunction photoelectrodes. However, current fabrication methods fail to provide advanced materials with the essential trifecta of flexibility, durability, and energy efficiency, which are crucial for next-generation energy systems. Herein, we present machine learning (ML)-powered laser-writing fabrication parameters to engineer laser-induced graphene-Cu 2 O (bottom) /CuO (middle) /anisotropic carbon (top) [hereafter Cu 2 O/CuO/LIAC] heterostructures, merging ML with nanoscale precision. Using Bayesian optimization of 11 laser parameters (trained on physics-informed data), we achieve sub-3 % thickness control (0.18–2.11 % deviation) for epitaxial heterostructures, while gradient-boosted regression identifies laser-carbonization kinetics as the critical stability determinant. The resulting Cu 2 O/CuO/LIAC photocathode, comprising a current-collecting LIG layer, photoactive Cu 2 O/CuO bilayer, and anticorrosion/active electrolyte interface layer, exhibits exceptional performance: −3.2 mA cm −2 photocurrent (0 V vs. RHE) and 0.373 mmol g −1 h −1 H 2 yield under solar irradiation. Notably, it maintains ∼88 % photocurrent after 3000+ bending cycles (r = 5 mm), paired with robust recyclability and electrolyte stability. This ML-accelerated approach reduces optimization costs by 47 % versus trial-and-error methods, enabling scalable fabrication of flexible, stable heterostructures. By bridging AI-driven process control with laser precision, we advance next-generation photoelectrodes for sustainable H 2 energy.

The preferential oxidation of carbon monoxide (CO-PROX) in rich hydrogen is a highly appealing technology for removing trace amounts of CO in hydrogen purification. Nevertheless, the requirements for realizing both a wide optimal working temperature range and high stability under industrial operating conditions remain a significant challenge. Here, we proposed a strategy for designing robust PtFe bifunctional catalysts stabilized by silanol nests on dealuminated Beta zeolite. The silanol nests formed upon dealumination effectively anchored Fe species, which subsequently facilitated the co-localization of Pt with the Fe sites. As a result, highly dispersed Fe species were stabilized in conjunction with Pt ensembles, achieving 100 % CO conversion within a wide working temperature range of 25 °C to 180 °C. Furthermore, this catalyst also demonstrates exceptional stability, maintaining 100 % CO conversion over 72 h of continuous CO-PROX operation under industrially relevant conditions (80 °C, in the presence of H 2 O and CO 2 ). Mechanistic investigations revealed that the high efficiency of O 2 utilization on the highly dispersed PtFe nanoparticles on dealuminated Beta zeolite not only promotes activity but also enhances stability for the CO-PROX reaction.

The electronic transmission mode can effectively influence the photogenerated electron-hole separation efficiency, which further influence the photocatalytic hydrogen production performance. Herein, we synthesized a CeO 2 /ZnIn 2 S 4 composite photocatalyst having a 0D/2D heterojunction by facile solvothermal and room temperature precipitation methods. The successful construction of the heterojunction was demonstrated by XRD and XPS. Meanwhile, the interesting findings shows that the 0D “chess” CeO 2 compounded on the 2D “checkerboard” ZnIn 2 S 4 in SEM and TEM. The ESR test of O 2 − and OH demonstrates the photocatalytic mechanism of Z-scheme electron transport in the catalyst. The highest hydrogen production rate of the catalyst reaches 847.42 μmol·g −1 ·h −1 . This work provides a simple and effective strategy to achieve a rationally design photocatalyst for efficient, stable and cost-effective solar hydrogen production applications.
