The sea urchin-like In 2 O 3 material was successfully synthesized through a simple hydrothermal method . Furthermore, the material underwent surface decoration without adding extra indium ions , resulting in the formation of a thin MIL-68(In) layer on the surface of In 2 O 3 . The obtained In 2 O 3 @MIL-68(In) retains the sea urchin-like morphology while acquiring an additional porous structure. Compared to pure In 2 O 3 , the composite exhibits a significant increase in specific surface area, leading to enhanced gas sensitivity. Notably, it demonstrates exceptional sensitivity towards formaldehyde gas, with a response of 18 at 100 ppm at 300 °C, up to six times more than pure In 2 O 3 . Moreover, In 2 O 3 @MIL-68(In) showcases remarkable selectivity and stability. These findings suggest that surface-modified MOF can enhance gas-sensitive properties.

As the single electron transfer of CO 2 to CO 2 − ions is the critical step in the CO 2 activation, it is very important to develop appropriate strategies to construct efficient catalytic systems. Herein, we constructed a coupled catalytic system consisting of mechanical-energy-driven triboelectric plasma and indium oxide rich in oxygen vacancies to achieve CO 2 reduction to CO at room temperature and atmospheric pressure. At the discharge distance of 0.6 mm, the indium oxide with more oxygen vacancies exhibited an optimal catalytic activity of 0.20 mmol·g −1 ·h −1 for CO evolution rate, and the conversion efficiency from electrical to chemical energy was 10.8 %. Electron paramagnetic resonance experiments showed that a large amount of CO 2 − ions were generated in the triboelectric plasma. The introduction of oxygen vacancies could increase the density of states near the Fermi level of indium oxide catalysts, stabilize highly active CO 2 − ions, and reduce the energy barrier of CO 2 − decomposition.

Gas sensor constructed with metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) has attracted a growing concern owing to its feasibility for rapid detection of various harmful and pollutant gases . However, the sensors made of pure MOS usually suffer from the drawbacks of high working temperature, low sensitivity and poor selectivity. Herein, we propose a Co-doping strategy to upgrade the gas sensing performance of In 2 O 3 . To expound it, Co-doped In 2 O 3 porous nanospheres (Co-In 2 O 3 PNSs) with the diameter of ∼120 nm was prepared from home-made In(OH) 3 NSs via a soaking-lyophilization-calcination method and their sensitive performance towards several volatile organic compounds (VOCs) was investigated in detail. Compared to pure In 2 O 3 sensor, the best Co-In 2 O 3 sensor (with optimized 0.5 mol% Co) exhibited outstanding improvements in triethylamine (TEA) sensing performance, especially including lower optimal working temperature (OWT: 220 °C vs 320 °C), higher response (R a /R g : 3500 vs 60 for 10 ppm TEA), and better selectivity (selectivity coefficient S TEA /S ethanol : 400 vs 1850). Besides, an interesting selectivity transformation from ethanol to formaldehyde was also observed after Co doping. These improvements of Co-In 2 O 3 PNSs were mainly attributed to their reduced crystallite size, increased oxygen vacancy concentration, narrowed bandgap, as well as upshifted Fermi level , whose mechanism was discussed.

With increasingly serious environmental problems caused by the improvement in people’s living standards, the number of cars has increased sharply in recent years, which directly leads to the continuous increase in the concentration of NO2in the air. NO2is a common toxic and irritant gas, which is harmful to both the human body and the environment. Therefore, this research focuses on NO2detection and is committed to developing high-performance, low detection limit NO2sensors. In this study, flower-like Au-loaded In2O3was successfully fabricated using the hydrothermal method and the wet impregnation method. The morphological features and chemical compositions of the as-prepared samples were characterized using SEM, TEM, XRD and XPS. A variety of sensors were fabricated and the gas-sensing properties of sensors were investigated. The results indicate that the sensor based on 0.5 mol% Au/In2O3shows a response value of 1624 to 1 ppm NO2at 100 °C, which is 14 times that based on pure In2O3. Meanwhile, the detection limit of the sensor based on 0.5 mol% Au/In2O3for NO2is 10 ppb, and the response value is 10.4. In addition, the sensor based on 0.5 mol% Au/In2O3also has high selectivity to NO2among CO, CO2, H2, CH4, NH3, SO2and H2S. Finally, the sensitization mechanism of Au/In2O3was discussed, and the reasons for improving the performance of the sensor were analyzed. The above results and analysis demonstrate that the gas-sensing attributes of the sensor based on 0.5 mol% Au/In2O3to NO2improved remarkably; at the same time, it has been proved that the composite material has extensive potential in practical applications.Keywords:NO2sensor;flower-like;Au-loaded In2O3;low detection limit;high selectivity

Au modified TiO2/In2O3hollow nanospheres were synthesized by the hydrolysis method using the carbon nanospheres as a sacrificial template. Compared to pure In2O3, pure TiO2, and TiO2/In2O3based sensors, the Au/TiO2/In2O3nanosphere-based chemiresistive-type sensor exhibited excellent sensing performances to formaldehyde at room temperature under ultraviolet light (UV-LED) activation. The response of the Au/TiO2/In2O3nanocomposite-based sensor to 1 ppm formaldehyde was about 5.6, which is higher than that of In2O3(1.6), TiO2(2.1), and TiO2/In2O3(3.8). The response time and recovery time of the Au/TiO2/In2O3nanocomposite sensor were 18 s and 42 s, respectively. The detectable formaldehyde concentration could go down as low as 60 ppb. In situ diffuse reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (DRIFTS) was used to analyze the chemical reactions on the surface of the sensor activated by UV light. The improvement in the sensing properties of the Au/TiO2/In2O3nanocomposites could be attributed to the nanoheterojunctions and electronic/chemical sensitization of the Au nanoparticles. Keywords:Au modified TiO2/In2O3hollow nanospheres;room temperature formaldehyde sensors;UV activation;in situ DRIFTS

As we all know, formaldehyde (HCHO) is extremely harmful to human health and has been identified as a primary carcinogen by the World Health Organization. Therefore, there is an urgent need to design efficient formaldehyde-sensing materials. In this work, a highly responsive formaldehyde sensor of In 2 O 3 @ZnO derived from MIL-68(In)@ZIF-8 precursor was successfully prepared. By adjusting the ratio of In 2 O 3 and ZnO, it can be found that the performance of the resulting sensor has greatly improved under 100 ppm HCHO at an operating temperature of 220 °C and the detection limit can be as low as 4 ppb. Additionally, it also has excellent selectivity (Q≥10), anti-interference (the deviation value≤3.5%), and long-lasting stability (the variation value≤4%). Such distinguished sensing performance can be attributed to the metal-organic framework (MOF) derived step-scheme (S-scheme) heterojunction , which ultimately increases the adsorption of oxygen and HCHO. This work verifies that ingenious heterojunction construction can significantly improve gas sensing performance.

A series of novel porous indium (III) oxide (In 2 O 3 ) and nanocubic cerium oxide (CeO 2 ) loading HCl treated attapulgite (HATP) ternary photocatalysts were successfully synthesized. Simultaneously, all photocatalysts were performed the CO 2 reduction under UV-light. To explore the crystal structures, morphologies and electrochemical characteristics of as-synthesized samples, the XRD, SEM and TEM, and transient photocurrent techniques were performed in this work. Besides, as an optimized In 2 O 3 /CeO 2 /HATP sample presents the highest activity for CO (32.03 µmol/g) and CH 4 (16.94 µmol/g) yields, which is 6.11-fold and 6.78-fold times higher than those of pure CeO 2 under UV-light (8 W) irradiation.

Visible-light active hollow In2O3@ZnFe2O4 heterojunctions are obtained through loading ZnFe2O4 nanosheets on hollow In2O3. First, uniform-size hollow In2O3 is prepared via thermal annealing of hexagonal In-MIL-68. Then layered double hydroxide (ZnFe-LDH) nanosheets are electrodeposited on the outer surfaces of the hollow In2O3 and annealed into ZnFe2O4. This unique design incorporates two oxide semiconductors into a Z-scheme heterojunction with hollow structure and nanosheet subunits, which can enhance visible-light absorption, inhibit the recombination of photogenerated charges and expose abundant active sites for further reaction. Thus, the resulting heterostructures exhibit a more efficient degradation efficiency of tetracycline (TC) under visible-light irradiation. The optimized In2O3@ZnFe2O4 photocatalyst exhibits a 90% photodegradation rate of TC (50 mg L−1) in 30 min. In addition, the In2O3@ZnFe2O4 heterojunction shows excellent cycling stability and can be easily separated for recycling in view of its excellent stability and unique magnetic properties, which are advantageous for further application in environmental purification.

The pure and Tb-doped In 2 O 3 beaded-porous nanotubes (BPNTs) are fabricated by simple electrospinning method. The crystal phase, morphology and chemical composition of the obtained samples were analyzed by characteristic techniques (XRD, FE-SEM, TEM, EDS, XPS, etc.). The mechanism of forming BPNTs structure was studied, and phase separation plays a key role in the process of formation. A series of sensing tests toward formaldehyde gas showed that 6 mol% Tb-doped In 2 O 3 BPNTs exhibited the best sensing performance: high response (75–50 ppm), shorter response and recovery times (2 s and 12 s), low limit of detection (LOD, 1.27–100 ppb), good selectivity and long-term stability, etc. The significantly improved gas sensing properties were mainly resulted from their high surface basicity, enriched defects (oxygen vacancies), small crystallite size and complex porous structures.

Although metal oxide nanofibers (MO-NFs) based field-effect transistors (FETs) prepared by electrospinning have gained great attention, it is still challenging to develop MO-NFs directly on flexible substrates such as polyimide (PI) to achieve a high flexibility due to the high annealing temperature. In this work, using a UV pretreatment and a subsequent “combustion synthesis” process, high-quality Pr-doped In2O3 (InPrO) electrospun NFs were successfully fabricated on a flexible PI substrate at a relatively low temperature (380 °C). It was found that the InPrO-based flexible FET (f-FET) prepared by UV pretreatment and low annealing temperature not only has a good interfacial adhesion but also show a good flexibility. When the f-FET was wrapped around the rigid cylindrical rod with a radius of 5 mm, it exhibited good performance including a high μFE of 2.12 cm2 V−1 s−1, a large Ion/Ioff of ∼108, and an excellent cycling stability (1000 bending cycles). This low-temperature processing route will certainly contribute to the future flexible electronics manufacturing.

The development of heterojunction composites with core–shell structure could effectively facilitate the separation of carriers. In this work, a novel In 2 O 3 -SnS 2 (IOS) core–shell heterojunction photocatalyst was successfully synthesized for the efficient photocatalytic reduction of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)), namely, the In 2 O 3 nanorods were obtained through successive hydrothermal and carbonization process using urea and glucose as template. Then, SnS 2 nanosheets were successfully in situ coated onto In 2 O 3 nanorods. The spectroscopic characterization and photo-electrochemistry test indicated that the IOS core–shell heterojunction could effectively accelerate the separation and transport of carriers and suppress the recombination of carriers. The photocatalytic performance of IOS was evaluated by photocatalytic reduction Cr(VI). The results showed that IOS-4 samples almost completely removed Cr(VI) (20 mg/L), within 90 min under visible light, which was superior to pure In 2 O 3 and SnS 2 . Furthermore, IOS samples also possess excellent stability, the removal efficiency was still maintained at 90% after five cycles. This work provided a reliable method for designing core–shell heterojunctions for the photocatalytic removal of Cr(VI) under visible light.

Isoprene is a typical biomarker for advanced fibrosis and can be used to screen and grade chronic liver disease (CLD). To detect trace isoprene, the high specific surface area (77.38 m 2 /g), porous flower-like In 2 O 3 hierarchical microsphere material was prepared by simple hydrothermal method. In addition, the sensor based on synthetic flower-like In 2 O 3 microspheres was prepared and gas sensing properties were investigated. The results showed that flower-like In 2 O 3 nanomaterials had the highest response to isoprene at 190 °C. The response time was 53 s and repeatability was good. The relatively low operating temperature (190 °C) could extend the working life and also facilitate the portable application of the sensor. Meanwhile, the sensor exhibited selectivity over other typical biomarkers (ammonia, ethanol, hydrogen, and carbon monoxide). The unmodified pure flower-like In 2 O 3 material could detect 5 ppb of isoprene at 190 °C and the logarithm of the response had good linear relationship with the logarithm of the concentration. Thus, this flower-like In 2 O 3 material was promising to be developed into the portable breath isoprene detector that could be integrated into a micro system for noninvasive rapid screening and grading of CLD.
