Developing facile TiO2 preparation methods is crucial for advancing the industrial implementation of a catalytic peroxone process for NO oxidation. In this study, three types of precursors, including titanium butoxide (Ti-BO), metatitanic acid (Ti-MTA), and titanyl sulfate (Ti-TOS), were used to synthesize TiO2. Remarkably, Ti-TOS and Ti-MTA exhibited enhanced activity compared to that of Ti-BO, with 93 and 87% NO oxidation efficiency (373 K, O3/NO = 0.4, H2O2/NO = 1.2, GHSV = 1.2 × 105 h–1), which is higher than that of Ti-BO (78%). Further investigations revealed that residual sulfate groups (SO42–) from precursors enhance Lewis acidity by withdrawing electrons from the Ti4+ sites, thereby facilitating H2O2 deprotonation and Ti-OOH formation. This accelerates radical generation for NO oxidation while inhibiting nitrate accumulation and weakening NO adsorption to optimize reaction kinetics. In addition, sulfates also inhibit the accumulation of oxidation product nitrates on the catalyst surface, thereby improving catalytic stability. This work reveals the promotion mechanism of SO42– on the catalytic peroxone process from multiple perspectives.

A Michelson interferometric carbon monoxide (CO) fiber-optic sensor based on Co/Ni-MOF-74 is proposed and fabricated. The bimetallic-ion-coordination MOFs material Co/Ni-MOF-74 was prepared by solvothermal method. Through XRD and XPS characterizations, the results show that Co/Ni-MOF-74 and Ni-MOF-74 have the same crystal structure. Co/Ni-MOF-74 has a good adsorption effect on CO, and it is integrated into the optical fiber sensing structure for CO detection. In the CO concentration range of 0–35 ppm, the sensitivity and linearity are 0.022 35 dB/ppm and 0.999 36, respectively. The detection limit of the sensor is about 1.990 46 ppm. The presented fiber-optic sensor has excellent selectivity, resistance to temperature interference and good time stability, and it is expected to be applied to the detection of trace CO.

The technology of simultaneous ammonia selective catalytic reduction (NH 3 -SCR) denitration and carbon monoxide (CO) oxidation is a proposed approach for synergistic purification of nitrogen oxides (NO x ) and CO from flue gas. However, the lack of highly efficient catalysts has hindered the widespread adoption and application of this technology. Herein, a series of CuSO 4 /TiO 2 (denoted CuS/Ti-X, X means calcination temperature at 400, 500, and 600 °C) catalysts was prepared to investigate their performance for simultaneous NH 3 -SCR denitration and CO oxidation. The results show that dispersing CuSO 4 on TiO 2 carrier induces the formation of surface Cu-O defect structure and reduces the stability of the Cu-O-S structure, which gives CuS/Ti-X catalysts a good redox property. Hence, the CuS/Ti-500 catalyst exhibits good catalytic activity in simultaneous removal of NO and CO, even in the presence of SO 2 . Reaction process investigation demonstrated that the presence of NO and NH 3 inhibits the adsorption of CO and consumes active oxygen species, thereby suppressing the CO oxidation reaction. In contrast, CO can promote the activation of NH 3 via activating the redox sites, which is conducive to the NH 3 -SCR reaction via the E-R mechanism. This study provides new insights into the strategic design of dual-functional sulfur-resistant catalysts for flue gas purification.

Forming nanocomposites among different metal oxide species may lead to gas sensors with superior gas sensing properties. In this work, terbium oxide (Tb 2 O 3 ) was used to form composite nanofibers with zinc oxide (ZnO) to detect nitric oxide (NO) gas. The Tb 2 O 3 /ZnO composite nanofibers were synthesized through a facile electrospinning and annealing treatment. The heterostructure was investigated by various techniques such as XRD , SEM, TEM , and XPS , whereas the gas sensing performance of the composite nanofibers was investigated with a static gas testing system. Results showed that the Tb 2 O 3 /ZnO composite nanofiber exhibited excellent sensing performance to NO at 180 °C. Specifically, the composite nanofiber with [Tb]/[Zn] molar ratio of 0.01 had a high response of 28.3 (resistance ratio) to 1 ppm NO gas at 180 °C, with low response to other interference gases. The sensor also exhibited good repeatability and long-term stability. These remarkable sensing properties indicate that conventional ZnO is still promising for real applications via material composition and structure.

Pentachloronitrobenzene (PCNB) is an organochlorine protective fungicide with poor water solubility. In this research, pentachloronitrobenzene/hydroxypropyl- β -cyclodextrin inclusion complex nanofibers (PCNB/HP β CD-IC-NF) with a stoichiometric ratio of 1:1 were prepared by polymer-free electrospinning for the establishment of a rapidly dissolving water-based drug delivery system. It was proved that the formation of PCNB/HP β CD-IC enhanced the water solubility and thermal stability of PCNB by phase solubility study and thermogravimetric analysis respectively. Specifically, the solubility of PCNB in 10 mM HP β CD solution enhanced about 2.83 times, while the initial thermal decomposition temperature of PCNB in PCNB/HP β CD-IC-NF was also increased from 124 °C to 235 °C. The antifungal activity experiment exhibited that the antifungal activity of PCNB/HP β CD-IC-NF against Rhizoctonia solani was 2.13 times higher than that of pure PCNB. In summary, the formulation of PCNB/HP β CD-IC-NF prepared in the present study could efficaciously improve the solvability, thermal stability and antifungal activity of PCNB, thereby promoting the development of PCNB dosage form to water-based and low-pollution, which had potential in reducing the harm of PCNB to the environment and developing clean pesticide formulations.

This study proposed a novel strategy to control nitrogen oxides (NOx) precursors by directing nitrogen to adhere to the fuel-N→NH 3 →N 2 pathway. The research aimed to illuminate the regulatory effects of CaO, Fe 2 O 3 , and their mixtures on NO and N 2 O precursors (NH 3 , HCN, and HNCO) during sludge pyrolysis, further sought to establish scientific correlations with varying temperatures and differentiate their impact. The findings indicated that unlike NH 3 , HNCO is generated from the cleavage of amides, sharing its origin with HCN. Notably, the sensitivities of three conditioners to different functional groups result in distinct impacts on precursor emissions. CaO interacted with –OH and N-H functional groups, releasing NH 3 . Fe 2 O 3 , being more responsive to C-H and C-C groups, contributed to HNCO emission. At 750 °C, a CaO-Fe 2 O 3 mixture created Ca x Fe y O z , which selectively reacted with N-H and C≡N, facilitating the conversion of HNCO and HCN to NH 3 . While temperature is a crucial factor in the performance of CaO, its impact on Fe 2 O 3 is primarily confined to transformation of heterocyclic and nitrile . Below 350 °C, Fe 2 O 3 favored the evolution of nitrogen into heterocyclic compounds within tar. Conversely, above 490 °C, it inhibited the formation of nitrile in char, promoting the dehydrogenation of tar into unsaturated aromatic structures. The CaO-Fe 2 O 3 mixtures exhibited a superposition of individual effects from CaO and Fe 2 O 3 , with Ca x Fe y O z stimulating N 2 emission. Importantly, among three conditioners, Fe 2 O 3 showed the most significant abatement effect on NOx precursors, primarily through nitrogen fixation in char, nitrogen enrichment in tar, and precursor oxidation. This research contributes innovative perspectives on nitrogen regulation in nitrogen-rich fuels, the utilization of NH 3 , and effective NO and N 2 O control.

Fe2+ complexation wet denitrification technology has become a research hotspot. It is very important to achieve efficient regeneration of the absorbent and increase NO absorption in the Fe2+ complexation system. They are the key to the industrial application of the Fe2+ complexation absorption process. In this paper, 2-phosphonate-butane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid and ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid were used as ligands to prepare a composite system for the first time. The characteristics of NO removal were investigated under different temperatures, pHs, Fe2+ concentrations, O2 contents, NO concentrations, CO2 contents, and SO2 concentrations. Compared with the single ligand, the results show that the denitrification performance of the solution with a complex ligand is significantly improved. In this system, pH 9, 40 °C temperature, and 20 mmol/L Fe2+ concentration are the economic ideal conditions for NO removal. The system can realize simultaneous removal of NO and SO2, but SO2 in flue gas has a dual effect on the NO removal reaction.

Low-temperature electrocatalytic reduction of nitric oxide (NORR) is promising for the low-cost, high-efficiency removal and utilization of nitric oxide (NO), which couples the two crucial industrial processes of denitration and synthetic ammonia. We reported a binary catalyst of Cu/P–TiO 2 for NORR process, which took advantages of the Cu electrocatalysts and porous TiO 2 . The increase of surface areas and channels can improve the adsorption of NO molecules. The decoration of the ultrafine Cu nanoparticles on the porous TiO 2 may prevent the agglomeration of ultrafine Cu nanoparticles. The as-prepared Cu/P–TiO 2 electrode exhibits excellent electrocatalytic activity with a Faraday efficiency of 86.49% and NH 3 yield of 3520.80 μg·h −1 ·mg −1 in 0.1 M K 2 SO 4 at −0.3 V vs. RHE. The mechanism of the NORR reaction process with Cu/P–TiO2 catalysts was also discussed. This research may broaden the application areas of TiO 2 -based materials in the electrocatalysis and provide a new sight in the treatment of NO pollutants.

Detecting some appropriate target gases through the optimization of material structure is still applicable to some old sensing materials. In this work, we showed that hollow tin oxide (SnO 2 ) nanotubes (NTs) exhibited a remarkable sensing performance for nitric oxide (NO) at 160 °C. The sensing materials were prepared by direct annealing of electrospun precursor nanofibers , and hollow NTs can be obtained at an appropriate heating rate of 6 °C/min. Given the large surface area of hollow SnO 2 NTs, their sensing performance is better than that of solid SnO 2 NTs. The response of hollow SnO 2 NTs is approximately 33.3 upon exposure to 500 ppb of NO at 160 °C. The hollow SnO 2 NTs also exhibit good repeatability, long-term stability, and excellent selectivity . These remarkable sensing properties indicate that conventional SnO 2 still has great practical applications because of the fine design of the material structure and proper control of working conditions.

Ce–Ti catalysts were considered as a promising replacement for V–Ti based catalysts for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of nitrogen oxides (NO and NO2) with NH3. In this work, a CeO2/TiO2 catalyst was prepared by the impregnation method and studied by a series of in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS) experiments. The results showed that CeO2 particles grew along TiO2 faces and amorphous cerium in the lattice of TiO2, both of which are present on the CeO2/TiO2 catalyst. NH4+ might adsorb on the Ti–O–Ce structures or TiO2–CeO2 interface as Brønsted acid sites, while two types of NH4+ species were distinguished by the time-resolved spectroscopic method due to the different increasing trends. Based on the temporal evolution transient in situ DRIFTS spectra, L-NH3 had higher activity than coordinated NH3 species, which suggested that gas phase NO reacted preferentially with L-NH3. The NH4NO3 intermediate dominated the SCR reactions over the CeO2/TiO2 catalyst, which followed the Eley–Rideal mechanism.

Deep catalytic removal of nitrogen oxides is one of the widespread research topics, mainly limited by the low temperature activity and hydrothermal stability of the first step for NO oxidation. Oxygen vacancies (O v ) and oxygen migration capacity play a crucial role in this challenge. Particularly, tuning the Mn-O coordination environment according to the radius and valence differences of dopant ions can increase O v , while accelerate oxygen migration by constructing Pt/mullite interfaces. Here, based on the hydrothermal stability of Pt/mullite to NO oxidation, we designed Mg 2+ - and Ba 2+ -doped catalysts. And the NO oxidation performance of the Mg 2+ -doped catalyst was significantly enhanced compared to the undoped catalysts (After hydrothermal aging, turnover frequency = 1.9 s −1 at 150 °C and activation energy = 21 kJ/mol). Meanwhile, all catalysts tested with simulated diesel exhaust and the NO oxidation performance showed essentially no decrease after 16 h of hydrothermal aging at 800 °C. Furthermore, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) demonstrated the O v content of doped catalysts increased significantly. In addition, O 2 temperature programmed desorption (O 2 -TPD) and Thermogravimetry (TG) proved that the oxygen migration capacity of doped catalysts was enhanced by several times. Notably, the simple doping method is general for the modification of other mullites and worthy of industrial application.

Vascular complications caused by diabetes impair the activities of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) and cystathionine γ-lyase (CSE), resulting in decreased physiological levels of nitric oxide (NO) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S). The low bioavailability of NO and H2S hinders the endothelialization of vascular grafts. In this study, endothelium-mimicking bilayer vascular grafts were designed with spatiotemporally controlled dual releases of NO and H2S for in situ endothelialization and angiogenesis. Keratin-based H2S donor was synthesized and electrospun with poly(l-lactide-co-ε-caprolactone) (PLCL) as the outer layer of the graft to release H2S. Hyaluronic acid, one of the major glycosaminoglycans in endothelial glycocalyx, was complexed with Cu ions as the inner layer to mimic glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and maintain long-term physiological NO flux. The synergistic effects of NO and H2S of bilayer grafts selectively promoted the regeneration and migration of human umbilical vascular endothelial cells (HUVECs), while inhibiting the overproliferation of human umbilical artery smooth muscle cells (HUASMCs). Bilayer grafts could effectively prevent vascular calcification, reduce inflammation, and alleviate endothelial dysfunction. The in vivo study in a rat abdominal aorta replacement model for 1 month showed that the graft had a good patency rate and had potential for vascular remodeling in situ.
