Synthesis of amide functionlized bidentate NHC-Pd complex for application as catalyst in Suzuki‐Miyaura cross-coupling, in distilled water, under mild reaction conditions

Jie Cao,Gang Xiong,Zhixiong Luo,Qiuyan Huang,Wenyan Zhou,Ileana Dragutan,Valerian Dragutan,Yaguang Sun,Fu Ding

An amide functionlized bidentate NHC-Pd complex was successfully prepared by a facile solvothermal methodology from a bridged bis-benzimidazolium chloride and K 2 PdCl 4. The new bidentate NHC-Pd complex has been effectively applied as catalyst in Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reactions of aryl halides with arylboronic acids in distilled water (yields up to 99.0%). The bridged bis-benzimidazolium ligand from the Pd complex, bearing the amide functional groups on the nitrogen atom, showed to distinctly influence the electronic and steric effects on the catalytic process. The potential of application of the new NHC-Pd catalyst in diverse C C bond forming processes, working under environmentally friendly conditions, is further outlined.

Synthesis of tetrahexahedral Au-Pd core–shell nanocrystals and reduction of graphene oxide for the electrochemical detection of epinephrine

Wenhao Dong,Yipeng Ren,Zhixue Bai,Jun Jiao,Yuan Chen,Bingkai Han,Qiang Chen

An innovative epinephrine sensor was fabricated by integrating tetrahexahedral (THH) Au-Pd core–shell nanocrystals on reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanosheets . Furthermore, the nanocomposites combined the large specific areas of rGO with the high-index facets and excellent electrocatalytic activity of the THH Au-Pd nanocrystals, and the nanocomposites were an essential adapter for detecting epinephrine. In the present work, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were used to identify and characterize these unique nanocomposites, and the results revealed that a unique THH Au-Pd/rGO core–shell nanostructure was synthesized successfully. To further explore the electrochemical behaviors of these nanomaterials at a GC electrode, we applied cyclic voltammetry (CV), differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) and amperometry to study the conductivity and electrocatalytic activity of the proposed sensor, and the results suggested that the sensor based on Au-Pd/rGO presented a lower limit of detection (0.0012 μM at a signal to noise ratio of 3), wide linear detection range (0.001 µM to 1000 µM), and extraordinary selectivity and reproducibility. Moreover, the data showed that the sensor possessed good stability and acceptable accuracy to detect epinephrine in human serum samples. In summary, this work is not only a potential way to manufacture various nonenzymatic sensors but also a significant contribution to further studies in catalysis, cell fuel cells and other relevant applications.

Pd@PdBOx heterostructure with strong electronic interaction to promote C─H bond activation for glycerol oxidation reaction

Zhenyu Li,Kunhong Jiang,Yue Yang,Yijing Pian,Huizhen Liu,Zexuan Zheng,Xiyang Wang,Subhajit Jana,Jiefei Li,Zhuoyuan Ma,Xiaoyun Qiao,Xiaoxin Zou,Xuelu Ma,Bin Zhang,Haibin Chu,Yimin A. Wu

Glycerol oxidation reaction (GOR) represents an economical pathway for transforming renewable feedstock to value-added chemicals. However, the inertness of C(sp 3 )─H bonds of glycerol and intermediates results in the high energy barrier of the dehydrogenation step, relating to poor product selectivity at high glycerol conversion. Here, a carbon nanotube–supported PdBO x @Pd heterostructure catalyst (PdBO x @Pd/CNTs) was synthesized in which in situ–exsoluted PdBO x clusters covalently covered Pd nanoparticles, thus yielding strong electronic interaction between Pd nanoparticles and PdBO x clusters. The strong electronic interaction in PdBO x @Pd/CNTs induces the hybridization between Pd(d), B(s, p), and O(s, p) atom orbits, optimizing the adsorption of reactants and intermediates, thus enhancing the activity for the GOR. The density functional theory calculation result reveals that the strong electronic interaction in PdBO x @Pd/CNTs facilitates the hydrogen transfer in the primary C─H bond of the CH 2 OHCHOHCH 2 O* intermediate, thus reducing the energy barrier of the rate-determining step and improving glyceric acid selectivity toward the GOR.

Doxorubicin and PD-L1 siRNA co-delivery with stem cell membrane-coated polydopamine nanoparticles for the targeted chemoimmunotherapy of PCa bone metastases

Xupeng Mu,Meng Zhang,Anhui Wei,Fei Yin,Yan Wang,Kebang Hu,Jinlan Jiang

Programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) blockade has achieved great success in cancer immunotherapy. PD-L1 siRNA can restore the immune anti-tumor activity of T cells by downregulating the level of PD-L1 on tumor cells, but the efficiency of PD-1/PD-L1 monotherapy is relatively low. Doxorubicin (DOX) can induce tumor cell apoptosis, and then increase the release of tumor antigen. But the expression of PD-L1 in tumor tissues treated with DOX will be enhanced adaptively. Therefore, DOX combination with PD-L1 siRNA can produce a good synergistic anti-tumor effect. In this study, stem cell membrane (SCM) camouflaged polydopamine nanoparticles carrying DOX and PD-L1 siRNA (PDA–DOX/siPD-L1@SCM) were constructed for targeting prostate cancer (PCa) bone metastases. PDA–DOX/siPD-L1@SCM NPs could effectively enhance blood retention and improve accumulation at tumor sites. In vitro and in vivo studies demonstrated that PDA–DOX/siPD-L1@SCM NPs showed excellent performance in synergistic chemoimmunotherapy for PCa bone metastases. Hence, this study provided an effective strategy for developing biomimetic multifunctional nanoparticles for PCa bone metastasis treatment.

Electrochemiluminescence behaviour of silver/silver orthophosphate/graphene oxide quenched by Pd@Au core-shell nanoflowers for ultrasensitive detection of insulin

Malik Saddam Khan,Hafsa Ameer,Asghar Ali,Romana Manzoor,Lei Yang,Ruiqing Feng,Na Jiang,Qin Wei

Herein, a highly efficient electrochemiluminescence resonance energy transfer (ECL-RET) immunosensor was established for ultrasensitive insulin detection. Silver/silver orthophosphate/graphene oxide composites (Ag/Ag 3 PO 4 /GO) were prepared as sensing platform for capture-antibody (Ab 1 ) incubation. Ag 3 PO 4 is a novel ECL donor whose emission could be remarkably enhanced by the synergetic assistance of GO with Ag NPs. Notably, GO presented excellent electrical conductivity and ultrahigh specific surface area to improve the loading capacity Ab 1 and Ag 3 PO 4 , and Ag NPs with fine biocompatibility and catalytic property could immobilize Ab 1 via Ag–N bond and further hasten the electron transfer to catalyze the generation of SO 4 •− radicals for boosting the ECL emission of donor. To establish a new ECL-RET system, Pd@Au core-shell nanoflower was prepared as a suitable ECL acceptor which could immobilize the detection-antibody (Ab 2 ). Due to the fine spectral overlap , Pd@Au nanoflower could significantly quench the ECL emission of Ag 3 PO 4 , causing distinct decreases in ECL intensity. The proposed ECL-RET immunosensor exhibited sensitive response to insulin in a linear range of 0.0001–80 ng/mL with a low detection limit of 0.02 pg/mL ( S/N  = 3), it not only provides a reliable tool for insulin detection in diagnostics of diabetes, but also lights up a new avenue for designing effective ECL-RET pairs in bioanalysis .

Effect of the cryogenic treatment on the electrocatalytic performance of the active self-supporting nanoporous Pd–Ag catalyst with high-index facets’ preferred orientation

Duan Jinrong,Si Fang,Wang Jiafen,Lu Linlin,Liu Jia,Song Yanyan,Mo Jiahui,Yu Jincui,Gao Jinlong

Fuel cell is considered the best candidate power source because of its high energy conversion rate, large capacity, and zero emission. However, noble metal catalysts as a key core material have some problems, such as high cost and poor durability. Therefore, in this paper, the active self-supporting nanoporous Pd–Ag catalysts are successfully formed by cryogenic treatment and one-step dealloying treatment of Al-Pd–Ag ribbons. The surface of the catalyst ligaments shows a certain degree of preferred orientation for high-index facets (220) and (311). The results show that the activity and stability of the catalysts for methanol electrocatalytic oxidation are significantly improved under the synergistic effect of special configuration and promoter Ag. The electrocatalytic activity of the catalysts is about 9.7 and 15.2 times that of commercial Pt/C and commercial Pd/C catalysts, respectively. After 5000 s, the current density of the 1800 rpm-deep2 sample is 382.88 mA·mg −1 , which is about 14.1 times and 39.9 times that of commercial Pt/C catalyst and commercial Pd/C catalyst.

A water-resistant and stable Pd-Co3O4 catalytic interface for complete methane oxidation with insights on active structures and reaction pathway

Yuanjie Xu,Run Hou,Kunxiang Chi,Bo Liu,Zemin An,Lizhi Wu,Li Tan,Xupeng Zong,Yihu Dai,Zailai Xie,Yu Tang

Palladium-based catalysts have long been considered the benchmark for methane combustion; however, the authentic phase of catalytic active sites remains a subject of ongoing debate. Additionally, challenges like water-poisoning and long-term stability need to be addressed to advance catalyst performance. Herein, we investigate Pd on Co 3 O 4 nanorods as a highly effective catalyst for catalytic oxidation of methane, demonstrating long-term stability and water tolerance during a 100-h continuous operation at 350 °C. Comprehensive characterizations reveal the presence of an active Pd-oxygen vacancy (O v )-cobalt interface in Pd/Co 3 O 4 , which effectively adsorbs molecular O 2 . The absorbed oxygen species on this interface are activated and directly participate in methane combustion. Moreover, near-ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy demonstrates that Pd nanoparticles undergo a rapid phase transition and predominantly remain in the metallic state during the reaction. This behavior is attributed to the electronic metal-support interaction between Pd and Co 3 O 4 . Furthermore, in situ Fourier transformed infrared spectrum reveals that under reaction conditions, HCO 3 * species are formed initially and subsequently transformed into formate species, indicating that the formate pathway is the dominant mechanism for CH 4 oxidation.

Synergistic effect of the framework boron and Al-rich region to enhance the metal-support interaction for boosting Pd-based catalyst activity of dimethyl carbonate synthesis

Siqi Wu,Jianshan Chen,Rong Guo,Haoyi Tong,Shanshan Zong,Zhifang Diao,Yeyan Qin,Yuangen Yao

Efficient production of dimethyl carbonate (DMC) from methyl nitrite (MN) carbonylation based on PdCu/NaY zeolite catalysts is highly desired for industrial applications. The introduction of boron species into the initial gels of NaY synthesis is a cost-effective modification strategy for boosting the catalytic performance. It not only introduces trace amounts of framework boron but also regulates the distribution of framework aluminum (Al F ) species. Most importantly, the synergistic effect of framework boron and Al-rich region significantly enhanced the metal − support interaction, thus promoting more electrons to be transferred from metal to support. This strategy allows the palladium active species to remain in an electron-deficient state more easily. The carbon monoxide (CO) adsorption and the critical intermediate species *CH 3 COO are more easily formatted on PdCu/NaBY catalyst, which leads to superior weight-time yields (WTY DMC up to 1507·g·kg cat   − 1 ·h − 1 ), and CO conversion to DMC (C CO up to 83 %). Our design is of great importance for developing metal-zeolites catalysts, which motivates the industrial application of Pd-based catalysts in the MN carbonation of DMC field.

Enhanced low-temperature methane oxidation over Pd supported Mn-doped NiO catalyst

Xiaoying Zhou,Shiyu Fang,Zihao Hu,Zuliang Wu,Jing Li,Wei Wang,Jiali Zhu,Shuiliang Yao,Erhao Gao

This study introduces a novel catalyst system comprising Pd nanoparticles loaded onto Mn-doped NiO for the efficient oxidation of methane (CH 4 ) at low temperatures. The loading of Pd nanoparticles onto the Mn-doped support has yielded a catalyst with exceptional activity and stability, as evidenced by the lowest T 50 temperature of 276 °C and a CH 4 conversion reaching 97% at 325 °C. The catalyst demonstrates optimized reaction kinetics with the lowest activation energy of 69.2 kJ mol –1 . The catalyst's superior performance is attributed to the synergistic effects of the Pd/Mn-NiO composite, which include a higher Pd 2+ /Pd 4+ ratio, increased adsorptive oxygen concentration (O ads /O total ), and a reduced Ni 3+ /Ni 2+ ratio. These characteristics collectively enhance the catalytic activity for CH 4 oxidation. The Mars-van Krevelen mechanism underpins the oxidation process, with Pd 2+ identified as the principal active site for CH 4 adsorption and dissociation. Diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy coupled with mass spectrometry elucidates the pathway of surface reactive oxygen species in the formation of key intermediates, such as formates, and underscores the accelerated decomposition of carbonate facilitated by the Pd modification on the Mn-NiO surface. The findings signify a significant advancement in the development of catalysts for environmental and energy-related applications, particularly in the mitigation of CH 4 emissions.

A highly sensitive multicolor quantum dots-polylysine@FLISA platform for the simultaneous detection of serum PD-L1, SORL1, and GDF-15 levels

Tongfang Chen,Jingjie Liang,Weiqing Liu,Xiaorong Luo,Fengxia Zhou,Yingchun Zhou,Shan Xing

Background Colorectal cancer (CRC) requires accurate diagnostic approaches for effective clinical management. Serum biomarkers PD-L1, SORL1, and GDF-15 offer valuable diagnostic information, but their simultaneous detection is hindered by the limited sensitivity and multiplexing capacity of conventional immunoassays. This work addresses the critical need for a highly sensitive multiplexed platform for precise CRC diagnosis. Results We constructed a multicolor QDs-K@FLISA platform employing K24 polylysine-conjugated CdTe quantum dots with distinct emissions (543/587/647 nm). The K-peptide enabled multi-QD loading, significantly amplifying fluorescence signals and facilitating ultrasensitive triplex detection. The assay achieved exceptional sensitivity with detection limits of 0.996 pg/mL (PD-L1), 1.101 pg/mL (SORL1), and 1.035 pg/mL (GDF-15), along with wide linear ranges (7.8-500 pg/mL for PD-L1/SORL1; 6-1600 pg/mL for GDF-15). High reproducibility was demonstrated (RSD < 2.3%). Clinical validation using 120 serum samples revealed strong correlation with reference methods (R 2 > 0.99) and effective discrimination between CRC patients and healthy controls. Significance and Novelty This work establishes a novel peptide-mediated multi-QD loading strategy that enables ultrasensitive multiplexed detection of CRC biomarkers. The platform presents significant potential for clinical applications in CRC diagnosis and biomarker profiling.

Label-free electrochemical aptasensor for ultrasensitive lead ion detection based on flower-like AuNPs@MoS2 and core–shell Pt@Pd bimetallic nanoparticles

Hao Xuanxuan,Liu Zhimin,Zheng Tongtong,Fan Yunfeng,Hu Leqian

A signal-amplified platform was designed to construct a label-free electrochemical aptasensor for lead ions (Pb 2+ ) assay. First, flower-like molybdenum disulfide-supported AuNPs (AuNPs@MoS 2 ) nanocomposites were synthesized and used as substrates for modifying the electrode. The AuNPs@MoS 2 material possessed large surface area and superior biocompatibility, which was beneficial to improve the loading amount of the complementary DNA (cDNA) and amplified the response signal. Importantly, the prepared core–shell Pt@Pd bimetallic nanoparticles (Pt@PdNPs) were used to conjugate with redox marker thionine (Thi) and aptamer (Apt) for further signal amplification; the obtained signal probes (Thi-Pt@PdNPs-Apt) were connected by the cDNA assembled on the electrode through DNA hybridization. Differential pulse voltammetry was performed to monitor the signal of Thi. After incubating of aptasensor with Pb 2+ , the specific recognition of Pb 2 + and Apt resulted in the dissociation of aptamer-cDNA complex, thereby the Thi-Pt@PdNPs-Apt separated from the electrode surface and decreased current response was obtained. The prepared electrochemical sensor exhibited linear response to Pb 2+ in the range 5.0 × 10 −4 –100 nM and a detection limit of 1.0 × 10 −4  nM was achieved. The sensor was applied to the determination of Pb 2+ in actual sample with high sensitivity and accuracy, demonstrating potential applications in heavy metal monitoring. Graphical Abstract

Boosting Hydrogen Transport in Mixed Matrix Membranes Through Continuous Spillover Via Pd-Functionalized MOF Gel Networks

Keming Zhang,Xiaohe Tian,Zhe Xu,Haishan Huan,Rui Zhang,Xiaoting Feng,Qingnan Wang,Yanting Tang,Chenlu Liu,Shaofei Wang

Membrane-based gas separation offers notable energy efficiency benefits for hydrogen purification, yet it is often hindered by the inherent trade-off between permeability and selectivity. To address this challenge, a novel mixed matrix membrane (MMM) design is presented to boost H 2 separation performance via continuous hydrogen spillover mechanisms for the first time. The MMM incorporates a palladium-functionalized ZIF-67 gel (Pd@ZIF-67 gel) network into a polymer of intrinsic microporosity (PIM-1) matrix. The ZIF-67 gel network serves as a uniform dispersion medium for palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs), thereby generating a multitude of active sites. These exposed sites, in conjunction with the microporous structure of ZIF-67, facilitate hydrogen dissociation and establish a continuous hydrogen spillover pathway throughout the membrane. This synergistic MMM design leads to substantial improvements in both hydrogen transport and selectivity. At an optimal loading of 28 wt% Pd@ZIF-67 gel, the MMMs exhibit a H 2 permeability of 3620 Barrer and a remarkable 417% enhancement in H 2 /CH 4 selectivity (24.9), surpassing the 2008 upper bound. This approach paves the way for the development of advanced materials tailored for gas separation applications.
