Fungicides are among the most essential agrochemicals for controlling crop diseases. However, the increased consumption of fungicides has resulted in environmental pollution and adversely affected human health. The slow-release technology can improve the efficacy and reduce the required amount of fungicide. Here, we developed a low-swelling redox-responsive alginate/lignin network bearing covalently conjugated fungicide thymol-Cl. Natural reductants in the environment caused the selective cleavage of disulfide bonds and release of thymol-Cl and thiazolidin-2-one (a by-product), which both could inhibit the phytopathogenic fungus ( F. oxysporum ). At the same time, metal chelating groups in the gel endow strong interactions with heavy metal ions for improving soil remediation and preventing the adsorption of toxic metals by the plant roots. The fungicide-loaded carrier could alleviate the poisonous effect of fungi on maize seeds. Indeed, the secretion of natural reducing agents by fungi and maize led to the cleavage of disulfide bonds and the release of fungicides.

To address the critical limitations of natural bentonite, including restricted specific surface area and low cation exchange capacity (CEC) caused by interlayer impurities, this study proposes an in situ structural reconstruction strategy via simultaneous alkaline activation and aluminum doping. This approach directly transforms bentonite frameworks into a hierarchically porous SOD-type sodalite with an ultralow Si/Al ratio. The engineered material integrates three synergistic advantages: abundant surface hydroxyl groups, maximized CEC (saturation capacity, 242.56 mg/g), and a dual-scale pore architecture (micropores/mesopores). Combined experimental and computational analyses reveal the underlying mechanisms: The ultralow Si/Al ratio generates Al–O–Si bridging sites, strengthening electrostatic interactions with Pb2+ (adsorption energy: −1.356 eV) and reducing the migration energy barrier. Local charge redistribution at Al-rich domains optimizes Pb2+ occupation, achieving a stable Pb–O bond length of 2.35 Å. Hierarchical porosity facilitates rapid mass transfer, enabling 93% adsorption capacity retention after eight regeneration cycles. This work establishes a quantitative structure–performance relationship among Si/Al ratio, charge distribution, and adsorption efficiency through bentonite interlayer reconstruction. It provides fundamental insights for designing high-performance, low-cost heavy metal adsorbents, demonstrating a 2.7-fold increase in Pb2+ uptake compared to conventional bentonite, developing high-performance, low-cost heavy metal adsorbents.

With the increasingly serious problems of resource depletion and environmental pollution, it has become a key path to synthesize low-cost and high-value-added functional materials through recycling waste resources. Inspired by the sustainable development concept of "turning waste into treasure", two bimetallic metal-organic frameworks (BMOFs) of MIL-53(Al, Fe) and NH 2 -MIL-53(Al, Fe) were successfully prepared by a one-pot hydrothermal method using acid-leaching wastewater generated from the whitening process of mixed-dimensional attapulgite clay as the metal ion source and reaction medium. The obtained BMOFs presented excellent crystallinity, acid-base stability, and adsorption performance for Pb 2+ (263.2 and 304.0 mg/g) and UO 2 2+ (497.5 and 704.2 mg/g). The involved adsorption mechanisms were mainly attributed to coordination and electrostatic interactions. This research realized the sustainable utilization of acid-leaching wastewater during fine-processing of non-metallic minerals, and significantly reduced the synthesis cost of MOFs, embodying the sustainable development goal of 3Rs (reduce, reuse and recycle) concept.

In this work, a novel electrochemical sensor based on sulfur and nitrogen co-doped porous graphene (SNPG) is developed for the simultaneous detection of Cd 2+ and Pb 2+ by in situ plating bismuth film. The large effective surface area and doped sulfur and nitrogen in porous graphene supply active sites with high affinity toward Cd 2+ and Pb 2+ by electrostatic interaction to improve the sensor performance, and the bismuth film improves the stripping voltammetric performance by forming bismuth-metal (Cd, Pb) alloys. Under optimized conditions, this sensor exhibits linearity in the range of 0.05-2 μM for Cd 2+ and Pb 2+ with a low detection limit of 0.02 μM for Cd 2+ and 0.008 μM for Pb 2+ . Moreover, the proposed sensor was applied for the simultaneous detection of Cd 2+ and Pb 2+ in tap water with satisfactory results, suggesting that SNPG is a promising electrode material for detecting heavy metal ions.

Here, the Ag nanoparticles decorated graphene (AgNP@GNs) were fabricated by combing liquid phase exfoliation with in-situ solvent reduction method. Furthermore, the electrochemical sensitivity toward Cd 2+ and Pb 2+ ions was also investigated in detail. This AgNP@GNs presented the excellent electrical properties (2.5×10 4 S/m), meanwhile showed high electrochemical detection ability toward Cd 2+ and Pb 2+ . The sensitivity of AgNP@GNs toward Pb 2+ and Cd 2+ was ca. 15.2μA/μM (or 1246.4μA/μg L -1 ) and 0.09μA/μM (4.32μA/μg L -1 ), respectively. The AgNP@GNs was also evaluated to electrochemical detection of Cd 2+ and Pb 2+ in real water, in which the recoveries (96~124%) were obtained. The work does not only provide a facile method to synthesize AgNP@GNs with good dispersion, but also showed good electrical properties for various applications.

The zeolitic imidazolate framework ZIF-8 was synthesized and mixed with chitosan (CS) solution to obtain a homogeneous dispersion. Then the dispersion of ZIF-8 and CS (ZIF-8-CS) modified glassy carbon electrode is fabricated and utilized for stripping voltammetric analysis of Hg 2+ , Cu 2+ , Pb 2+ and Cd 2+ for the first time. The large surface area effect and strong enriching effect of the nanosized ZIF-8 to the four heavy metal ions contribute to significantly enhance analytical signals. Under the optimum conditions, the stripping peak current densities linearly increased with Hg 2+ concentration in the range from 1.0 μM to 80.0 μM, and with Cu 2+ , Pb 2+ and Cd 2+ concentrations in the range from 1.0 μM to 100.0 μM. The analytical sensitivity for the four ions are estimated to be 14.20 μA·μM −1 ·cm −2 (Hg 2+ ), 2.797 μA·μM −1 ·cm −2 (Cu 2+ ), 5.203 μA·μM −1 ·cm −2 (Pb 2+ ) and 1.390 μA·μM −1 ·cm −2 (Cd 2+ ), respectively. The limits of detection for the four ions were estimated to be 0.0293 μM (Hg 2+ ), 0.108 μM (Cu 2+ ), 0.0619 μM (Pb 2+ ) and 0.135 μM (Cd 2+ ), respectively. The ZIF-8 based modified electrode also presented excellent anti-interference ability, and good reliability for monitoring the four ions in real water samples.

Herein, a novel magnetic biocomposite (Fe 3 O 4 @Au-S1/S2) was applied to analyze thrombin. The Fe 3 O 4 @Au-S1/S2 consisted of Fe 3 O 4 @Au nanoparticles (Fe 3 O 4 @Au NPs) as carriers for magnetic separation and magnetic field-induced self-assembly, thiolated complementary strand (S1) anchored based on Au-S bond and thrombin binding aptamer (S2) as a recognition element. As a redox indicator , methylene blue (MB) can be adsorbed to DNA anchored on the surface of Fe 3 O 4 @Au NPs by electro-static interaction. In the absence of thrombin, MB were adsorbed on double-stranded DNA (S1/S2) which anchored on Fe 3 O 4 @Au NPs and a high electrochemical signal of MB was recorded by Differential pulse voltammetry . Conversely, the complementary strand (S1) exposed after thrombin competitively bonded with aptamer. The introduction of Pb 2+ -dependent DNAzyme (S3) split S1 at specific rA site, resulting in the significantly decreased adsorption capacity of MB. Thus, the thrombin detection could be recorded by monitoring the electrochemical signal reduction of MB through incubation of thrombin with S3. This method exhibited a high sensitivity toward thrombin with a broad linear range from 5 pmol L −1 to 5 nmol L −1 and a limit of detection of 1.8 pmol L −1 .

Single-component white light emitters are particularly attractive for fabricating economical solid-state devices for display and lighting. Herein, an efficient white light with photoluminescence quantum yields approaching 98% has been obtained in Mn2+ and Pb2+ co-doped Cs7Cd3Br13 crystals. The quantified bonding and nonbonding characters calculated by the crystal orbital Hamilton population analysis demonstrate that the Mn2+ and Pb2+ occupy preferentially in the [CdBr4]2– tetrahedrons rather than the [CdBr6]4– octahedrons in Cs7Cd3Br13. According to the PL spectral characteristic and the theoretical results, the broadband white light emission from Cs7Cd3Br13:Pb2+,Mn2+ crystals is ascribed to the multiple PL origins, i.e., the first self-trapped exciton (STE1) from the intrinsic trapping states of host lattice Cs7Cd3Br13, the d–d transition of Mn2+, and the second self-trapped exciton (STE2) induced by the introduction of Pb2+, respectively. The results calculated by density functional theory reveal that the incorporation of Mn2+ and Pb2+ has significantly improved the thermodynamic stability of the Cs7Cd3Br13 structure with lower defect formation energies, which is verified by the experimental observation in the temperature-dependent PL spectra of the emitting crystals. The findings here provide a new perspective for a single-component white light via creating multiple PL centers in a single matrix as well as help in the elucidation of the preferential site occupancy mechanism of the dopants in different symmetrical units.

Lead ion (Pb 2+ ) is a major non-degradable environmental pollutant and poses threat to human health. DNAzymes have proved to be a promising tool for the detection of extracellular metal ions . Owing to cellular uptake, enzymatic degradation and reliable signal output, using DNAzymes to quantitative intracellular sensing of Pb 2+ still presents challenges. In this study, we report a core-shell nanoworms-DNAzyme nanoprobe combing hairpin-like DNAzyme (H DNAzyme) with polydopamine-coated Au cores plasmonic “nanoworms” ( [email protected] NWs) for imaging of Pb 2+ in living cells. PDA with good biocompatibility, high near-infrared (NIR) fluorescence quenching efficiency, and provides a larger surface for further functionalization of biomolecules. H DNAzyme can loaded onto [email protected] NWs via coordination interaction and π–π stacking, resulting in significant quenching of their fluorescence by PDA shells and Au cores. In the presence of target Pb 2+ , the H DNAzyme are activated and release Cy5 fluorophore-labeled short strands from [email protected] NWs. Therefore, an increased fluorescence signal is observed and allows imaging of Pb 2+ in living cells. Moreover, the highly selective of H DNAzyme make the proposed method effectively discriminate against other nonspecific molecules. The [email protected] NWs-H DNAzyme nanoprobe shows good biocompatibility and obviously decreased background fluorescence, which can monitor Pb 2+ levels and biodistribution. The developed nanoprobe holds great potential for further extend to bioimaging of other metal ions.

A novel bismuth/cerium oxide/reduced graphene oxide (Bi/CeO2/rGO) platform was prepared on an FTO electrode via an in situ electrochemical deposition method, which was employed for the detection of Pb2+. The differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASV) results demonstrated that the Bi/CeO2/rGO/FTO sensing platform exhibited good electroanalytical performance. The linear calibration curve for Pb2+ ranged from 0.001 to 2 μM with a detection limit of 0.00045 μM (S/N = 3). The resulting data were compared with some other reported sensors. The present electrochemical sensor possessed high sensitivity, anti-interference ability, stability and reproducibility for the detection of Pb2+. The improved Pb2+ sensing performance was attributed to the synergetic effect, where rGO was employed as a supporter to improve electron transport and CeO2 was used to increase the stability of rGO and prevent the re-stacking of rGO. Calculations based on density functional theory (DFT) revealed that the Bi/CeO2/rGO/FTO possessed lower Gibbs free energy for the detection of Pb2+ in comparison with the rGO/FTO and CeO2/rGO/FTO, which might further explain the improved sensitivity of the Bi/CeO2/rGO/FTO electrode. The proposed Bi/CeO2/rGO/FTO sensing platform was relatively facile, nontoxic and low-cost. Consequently, it was successfully applied for the analysis of Pb2+ in actual water samples.

Halogen vacancies are regarded to play a vital role in photo-induced phase segregation and the resulting switchable emission colors in the soft mixed-halide perovskites ; however, its control strategy via the balanced Pb 0 defects remains a big challenge. The research reports the regulation of synthesis and photochromic behavior via interfacial Eu 3+ /Eu 2+ -Pb 0 /Pb 2+ redox in composites of porous Ca 0.9 Eu 0.1 MoO 4 and nominal mixed-halide perovskite CsPbCl 1.5 Br 1.5 . The composite takes full advantage of Eu 3+ ions with the concerns of its luminescence and variable valences. It provides an additional emission color besides the halide perovskite, manipulates the Pb 0 defects and the resulting Br-rich domain via interfacial redox reaction in the composites. The more contents of surfaced Eu 3+ caused by substituting the unequivalent Ca 2+ ions and the high volume-to-surface ratio of the porous Ca 0.9 Eu 0.1 MoO 4 guarantees the interfacial access for the Eu 3+ and the halides. The research provides some perspectives on the regulation of ionic valence and photoluminescence of halide perovskites with the use of lanthanide ions. The composites may find potential applications in the anti-counterfeiting field.

A novel dual-emission ratio fluorescent sensor (N-CDs/R-CDs@ZIF-8) has been constructed successfully by introducing nitrogen-doped blue fluorescence carbon dots (N-CDs) and red fluorescence carbon dots (R-CDs) into the synthetic environment of ZIF-8 by a simple stirring method. The synthesized material not only inherits the excellent optical properties of N-CDs and R-CDs and the strong adsorption and accumulation performance of ZIF-8, but also shows strong fluorescence and structural stability in extreme environments. The presence of Pb 2+ strongly causes the fluorescence quenching of N-CDs, but has almost no effect on the fluorescence of R-CDs. Therefore, a ratio fluorescence sensor is developed for the determination of Pb 2+ . Most importantly, the real-time fluorescence response shows that the composite material has a high selectivity and good sensitivity to Pb 2+ determination, and the calculated LOD is 4.78 nM(S/N = 3) (0.05–50 μM), indicating that the material can be used as a potential fluorescent sensor for Pb 2+ detection.
