Although potassium-ion batteries (PIBs) have received increasing attentions in the large-scale energy storage application own to its natural abundance of potassium resources, the sluggish reaction kinetics and inferior structure endurability of host materials severely restrict the PIBs development. Herein, we rationally design an exquisite hierarchical MoS 2 /Sb heterostructure encapsulated into N-doped graphene framework (MS@C) as an advanced anode material for PIBs. Specifically, the evenly distributed Sb nanoparticles are impregnated into the few-layered MoS 2 nanosheets, which are further encapsulated by the N-substituted graphene framework, constructing a hierarchical chrysanthemum-like heterostructure. It is noted that this heterostructure can not only effectively prevent the coarsening of alloyed Sb nanograins at the heterointerface, but also serve as the buffer container to alleviate the volume expansion during (de)potassiation process. Moreover, benefitting from the synergistic coupling effect induced between the external nitrogen-doped graphene and internal MoS 2 /Sb heterostructure, the electron transportation and ions diffusion are aggressively accelerated, promoting the entire electrode conductivity. Consequently, the resulting MS@C composite delivers a high reversible capacity (359.5 mAh g −1 at 0.05 A g −1 ) and outstanding cycling stability (only capacity loss of 0.027% per cycle during long-term 1000 cycles at high rate of 2 A g −1 ), demonstrating the robust structural integrity and excellent electrochemical performance. This work provides a promising strategy of composition optimization for delicately designing advanced anode materials, demonstrating the promising in exploring high-quality potassium-ion storage applications.

Ti/SnO2-Sb-Fe electrodes have been prepared by a novel precipitation printing method, the traditional sol-gel method, and the direct current deposition method. The microstructure of the electrodes was systematically characterized through X-ray diffraction (XRD) observation and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) verification. In addition, the morphology was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), while the electrochemical properties and the stability were further investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV), linear sweep voltammetry (LSV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and accelerated life testing. The results indicate that the Ti/SnO2-Sb-Fe electrode prepared by precipitation printing has the smallest nanoparticle structure (< 10 nm), a higher electrochemical porosity (49.6%), and a higher oxygen evolution potential (2.20 V). As a comparison, the Ti/SnO2-Sb-Fe electrode prepared by the sol-gel method has the longest service life. To further evaluate the electrocatalytic activity of the Ti/SnO2-Sb-Fe electrodes, Acid Red 73 was employed as simulated sewage for electrochemical degradation. After 180 min, the removal efficiency of AR 73 reached 86.8%, 63.4%, and 74%, respectively, for Ti/SnO2-Sb-Fe electrodes prepared by precipitation printing method, traditional sol-gel method, and direct current deposition method. Furthermore, the degradation of AR 73 followed pseudo-first-order kinetics.

Ternary copper-based chalcogenide nanomaterials have become rather attractive due to the near-infrared (NIR) response in cancer theranostic fields. However, it is still challenging to further improve the theranostic efficiency of these nanomaterials. Herein, Cu-Sb-S nanoparticles (NPs) around 24 nm are synthesized facilely and functionalized with poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP). Under the NIR irradiation, the resultant PVP-Cu-Sb-S NPs exhibit a relatively high photothermal conversion efficiency of 53.16% and a simultaneous reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation effect. Due to these outstanding photothermal/photodynamic effects, excellent tumor ablation results can be achieved by the combination of PVP-Cu-Sb-S NPs and 808 nm NIR laser treatments without obvious side effect. In addition, they show remarkable contrast enhancement according to in vitro and in vivo photoacoustic (PA) imaging. These PVP-Cu-Sb-S NPs could be served as a multifunctional nanotheranostic agent for PA imaging, photothermal/photodynamic cancer therapy. Statement of Significance Highly theranostic efficiency ternary copper-based chalcogenide nanomaterials has not been fully developed yet. Herein we report the PVP-Cu-Sb-S nanoparticles (NPs) with relatively high photothermal efficiency, simultaneous reactive oxygen species generation effect and photoacoustic imaging capability. The photothermal conversion efficiency of PVP-Cu-Sb-S NPs is higher than most of copper-based chalcogenide nanomaterials reported before. These findings provide a new kind of ternary copper-based chalcogenide with an enhanced theranostic effect, which could be served as a promising multifunctional nanotheranostic agent in the field of biomedical application.

A novel method to separate As from high As-Sb dust using Fe 2 O 3 as a fixative under an O 2 -N 2 atmosphere is proposed. Here, Sb is oxidised and converted to Sb 2 O 4 and FeSbO 4 that remain in the roasted residue, and As is volatilized in the form of As 4 O 6 . The Sb 2 O 3 can be selectively oxidised from the dust by using 21 vol% O 2 , but the formation of amorphous substance (As-Sb-O) hinders the effective separation of As and Sb. Adding Fe 2 O 3 hinders the amorphous substance formation and destroys the structure of the solid solution ((Sb, As) 2 O 3 ) in the raw material by converting the Sb component in it to FeSbO 4 . Therefore, the volatilization rates of As and Sb can reach up to 90.53% and only 13.20%, respectively at a roasting temperature of 723 K, roasting time of 90 min, an Fe 2 O 3 dosage of 15 mass%, and O 2 content of 21 vol%.

Weak antilocalization (WAL) effect is commonly observed in low-dimensional systems, three-dimensional (3D) topological insulators and semimetals. Here, we report the growth of high-quality Ta 0.7 Nb 0.3 Sb 2 single crystals via the chemical vapor transport (CVT). Clear sign of the WAL effect is observed below 50 K, probably due to the strong spin—orbital coupling in 3D bulk. In addition, it is worth noting that a relatively large MR of 120% appears under 1 T magnetic field at T = 2 K. Hall measurements and two-band model fitting results reveal high carrier mobility (>1000 cm 2 · V −1 ·s− 1 in 2–300 K region), and off-compensation electron/hole ratio of ∼8:1. Due to the angular dependence of the WAL effect and the fermiology of the Ta 0.7 Nb 0.3 Sb 2 crystals, interesting magnetic-field-induced changes of the symmetry of the anisotropic magnetoresistance (MR) from two-fold (≤ 0.6 T) to four-fold (0.8–1.5 T) and finally to two-fold (≥ 2 T) are observed. This phenomenon is attributed to the mechanism shift from the low-field WAL dominated MR to WAL and fermiology co-dominated MR and finally to high-field fermiology dominated MR. All these signs indicate that Ta 0.7 Nb 0.3 Sb 2 may be a topological semimetal candidate, and these magnetotransport properties may attract more theoretical and experimental exploration of the (Ta,Nb)Sb 2 family.

Beyond phonon transport, non-propagating transport is also crucial for crystals to achieve ultra-low lattice thermal conductivity (κ L ) approaching the amorphous limitation. In our study, the demonstrated enhancement of phonon localization proves instrumental in achieving ultra-low κ L , offering an understanding of the role of non-propagating transport. We experimentally verified this principle through a meticulously designed vapor-liquid-solid reaction in Mg 3 (Sb,Bi) 2 -based materials. A remarkably low κ L of 0.19 W/mK at room temperature was obtained. This marked a 77% reduction, compared with full-density counterparts, and was attributed to enhanced localization involved in high-frequency phonons. Moreover, we achieved a record zT value close to 1.2 at room temperature, along with the highest average zT value of 1.6 from 300 to 573 K among all n-type materials. These remarkable results align precisely with electron-phonon decoupling through strengthening phonon localization for materials design and application, which underscores the pivotal role in thermal transport.

The recent development in mariculture production has led to the global need to find an eco-friendly treatment that could mitigate the detrimental effects of nitrogenous compounds on aquatic species, the environment, and public health. The potential application of corn straw biochar (BC) combined with nano-ferrous oxalate (FeC 2 O 4 ), integrated into a sponge (BC/FeC 2 O 4 /SB) as a cost-effective and sustainable novel carrier for the removal of nitrogenous compounds, was explored in this study. The modified carriers were filled into a moving bed bioreactor (MBBR) to treat simulated saline aquaculture wastewater for the first time. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy analyses characterized the carrier biofilm morphology and functional group compositions. Findings showed that the modified carrier achieved the highest reduction percentages of 99.49 ± 0.29% for ammonium and 81.3 ± 2.1% for nitrate, with lower nitrite accumulation by day 136. The microbial sequencing analysis revealed that the coexistence of nitrogen removal and salt-tolerant microbes from the genera Aquimonas (25.15%), Woodsholea (20.44%), Hydrogenophaga (14.73%), Nitrosomonas (4.01%), Rhodococcus (2.70%), and Nitrospira (1.97%) resulted in the enhanced treatment performance observed in the modified BC/FeC 2 O 4 /SB carrier-filled MBBR as compared to the control MBBR. The data obtained in this study provide a comprehensive understanding of the role of modified BC/FeC 2 O 4 /SB carriers for the efficient treatment of saline RAS wastewater using MBBR.

High-capacity anode materials are highly desirable for sodium ion batteries. Here, a porous Sb/Sb 2 O 3 nanocomposite is successfully synthesized by the mild oxidization of Sb nanocrystals in air. In the composite, Sb contributes good conductivity and Sb 2 O 3 improves cycling stability, particularly within the voltage window of 0.02–1.5 V. It remains at a reversible capacity of 540 mAh·g –1 after 180 cycles at 0.66 A·g –1 . Even at 10 A·g –1 , the reversible capacity is still preserved at 412 mAh·g –1 , equivalent to 71.6% of that at 0.066 A·g –1 . These results are much better than Sb nanocrystals with a similar size and structure. Expanding the voltage window to 0.02–2.5 V includes the conversion reaction between Sb 2 O 3 and Sb into the discharge/charge profiles. This would induce a large volume change and high structure strain/stress, deteriorating the cycling stability. The identification of a proper voltage window for Sb/Sb 2 O 3 paves the way for its development in sodium ion batteries.

Sb and Sb2O3 are attractive anode materials for sodium ion batteries due to their relatively low cost and high theoretical capacity. However, the poor cycling stability caused by serious volume expansion hinders their development. In this work, we use electrospinning and carbon thermal reduction to easily synthesize Sb/Sb2O3@N-doped carbon nanofiber membranes. The flexible Sb/Sb2O3@NCNF membranes are directly used as free-standing electrodes in SIBs showing a high specific capacity and excellent cycling stability (527.3 mA h g−1 after 100 cycles at 0.1 A g−1). They can still deliver a reversible specific capacity around 400 mA h g−1 after 700 cycles even at 1 A g−1. The flexible free-standing design, simple synthesis methods and excellent electrochemical properties make the Sb/Sb2O3@NCNF electrodes an ideal anode candidate material for sodium ion batteries.

Novel peroxo-complexation strategy was used to purify Nb-rich solution. • NbOF 5 2− transformation to NbO 2 F 5 2− greatly lowers its binding energy with MIBK. • Selectivity coefficient for Sb over Nb was enlarged by over 2300 times. • Nb 2 O 5 product met the high-purity specifications regarding Ta and Sb impurities. The efficient separation of Ta and Sb from Nb in hydrometallurgical processes remains a significant challenge due to their similar chemical behaviors. In this study, a novel peroxo-complexation strategy was introduced to enhance the selectivity of methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) extraction in an HF-H 2 SO 4 system. With the addition of H 2 O 2 , the extraction efficiencies of Ta and Sb reached 99.6% and 99.7%, respectively, while the co-extraction of Nb was only 2.32%. The selectivity coefficients of Sb/Nb and Ta/Nb significantly increased from 0.63 and 34.7 to 1461 and 6501, respectively. Stepwise stripping using H 2 SO 4 and pure water effectively recovered Nb and Ta/Sb from the loaded organic phase. Raman spectroscopy and quantum chemical calculations elucidated the mechanism of the enhanced separation selectivity. The peroxo-ligand selectively coordinates with Nb to transform it from NbOF 5 2− to NbO 2 F 5 2− , thereby weakening the negative surface potential of the fluorine atoms bonded to Nb. The binding energy between Nb ions and MIBK decreases from −172 kJ mol −1 to −104 kJ mol −1 , and thus the disparity in the affinity of Nb ions and Ta/Sb ions for MIBK is magnified. Overall, this peroxo-coordination approach provides an efficient and simple pathway for the effective purification of Nb solutions. Indium(III)-based hybrid halides are emerging low-dimensional luminescent materials; however, their rigid lattices and d 10 electronic configuration of In 3+ suppress intrinsic self-trapped-exciton (STE) emission, leading to limited photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY). To address this issue, Sb 3+ is doped into the 0D (Me 2 NH 2 ) 4 InCl 7 host, transforming it from a nearly non-emissive material into a highly efficient warm-white STE emitter. The optimized (Me 2 NH 2 ) 4 InCl 7 :0.2Sb 3+ delivers a near-unity PLQY (∼100%) under 350 nm excitation. Single-crystal structural analysis and theoretical calculations reveal substitutional Sb 3+ at In 3+ sites, inducing locally distorted [SbCl 6 ] octahedra. This Sb 3+ -triggered local lattice distortion strengthens electron–phonon coupling, and it deepens the STE potential well and suppresses non-radiative relaxation pathways, thereby enabling robust broadband STE emission with a microsecond-scale lifetime (4.28 µs), a large Stokes shift (280 nm), and a wide bandwidth (177 nm). This work provides a facile route to realize warm-white emission from a single host lattice based on stable, low-toxicity indium-based hybrid halides.

Mg 3 (Sb, Bi) 2 is a promising mid- to low- temperature thermoelectric material owing to its earth-abundant composition. However, its performance is limited by low intrinsic carrier concentration and the inherent trade-off among thermoelectric parameters. Herein, large-grain sized Mg 3.01 Sb 1.3 Bi 0.69 Te 0.01 Ho 0.07 are fabricated via melting method at 1423 K using a tantalum-sealing technique. A high peak zT of 1.6 at 700 K is realized, along with a peak power factor of 24 μW cm −1 K −2 and a low κ L of 0.41 W m −1 K −1 . The superior performance originates from synergistic manipulation of electron and phonon transport. Ho doping optimizes carrier concentration up to 7.2 × 10 19 cm −3 due to its small electronegativity difference with Mg, while the large grain ensures high carrier mobility. Simultaneously, atomic-scale alloy disorder suppresses phonon propagation, resulting in a substantial reduction in lattice thermal conductivity. This work highlights the great potential of synergistic transport engineering for high-performance Mg 3 (Sb, Bi) 2 -based thermoelectric materials.
