Tin-lead (Sn-Pb) perovskite solar cells (PSCs) with near-ideal bandgap still lag behind the pure lead PSCs. Disordered heterojunctions caused by inhomogeneous Sn/Pb ratio in the binary perovskite film induce large recombination loss. Here, an Sn-Pb perovskite film is reported with homogeneous component and energy distribution by introducing hydrazine sulfate (HS) in Sn perovskite precursor. HS can form hydrogen bond network and coordinate with FASnI 3 thus no longer bond with Pb 2+ , which reduces the crystallization rate of tin perovskite to the level of lead analog. The strong bonding between SO 4 2− and Sn 2+ can also suppress its oxidation. As a result, the Sn-Pb PSCs with HS exhibit a significantly improved V OC of 0.91 V along with a high efficiency of 23.17%. Meanwhile, the hydrogen bond interaction network, strong bonding between Sn 2+ and sulfate ion also improve the thermal, storage, and air stability of resulting devices.

The catalytic activities of metal–based catalysts are largely dependent on the properties of their supports. The support (MgO, Al 2 O 3 , MgAl 2 O 4 , SiO 2, and CeO 2 ) effect of the Sn (1.2 wt%) based catalyst for the ethylbenzene dehydrogenation reaction was firstly investigated. The supported Sn-based catalysts were characterized by NH 3 -TPD, BET, XRD, and H 2 -TPR. Among the tested catalysts, the 1.2 Sn/CeO 2 catalyst presented the most effective catalytic activity, achieving a high ethylbenzene conversion of 56.2 wt% at 600 °C. The obvious support effect should originate from the electronic interaction between Sn and supports, instead of the geometric effect resulting from different dispersion of Sn species on carriers. The high activity of the 1.2 Sn/CeO 2 catalyst was attributed to the generation of oxygen vacancies on the CeO 2 surface. A typical strong metal-support interaction (SMSI) could be found in the 1.2 Sn/CeO 2 catalyst according to the comparison of H 2 -TPR, XPS, and Raman spectra result with pure CeO 2 support. The addition of Sn further promoted the generation of more oxygen vacancies by changing the redox properties of CeO 2 , and inhibited the agglomeration of CeO 2 nanoparticles, thereby enhancing greatly the catalyst's ethylbenzene dehydrogenation activity. Gel polymer electrolytes (GPEs) have attracted extensive attention in lithium-ion batteries due to their high security and excellent electrochemical performance. However, their inferior Li-ion transference number, low room-temperature ionic conductivity, and poor long cycle stability raise challenges in practical applications. Herein, a flexible poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene)-butanedinitrile (PVDF-HFP-SN)-based GPE (PSGPE) is synthesized successfully by a general immersion precipitation method. The resultant PSGPEs have numerous connecting pores to ensure sufficient space for liquid electrolytes. Moreover, the reduced crystallinity of PVDF-HFP and the high polarity of SN can reduce the energy barrier of Li-ions shuttling between pores. The synergistic effect possesses a high ionic conductivity of 1.35 mS·cm −1 at room temperature with a high Li-ion transference number of 0.69. The PVDF-HFP-SN-based GPE is applied in a LiFePO 4 /graphite battery, which can realize stable cycling performance for 350 cycles and good rate performance at room temperature. These results demonstrate that the novel PSGPE possesses advantage in simplified production process, which can improve the practicability of gel polymer lithium-ion batteries.

Graphical As anode for sodium-ion battery, a multi-phase composite was designed and fabricated via electrospinning method through heating at different carbonization temperature. The fabricated composite was composed of Sb and Sn nanodomains that embedded in the porous carbon nanofibers which containing Sb 2 SnO 5 nanoparticles encapsulated inner, which exhibits the varied amount of Sb/Sn nanodomains and the effect on the electrochemical performance, especially, the Sn/Sb@SSO@PCFs-600 shows unexpected high capacity at current 3.0 Ag −1 and the retention ratio of 80 % after 200 cycles. Embedding the metal phase and modifying the microstructure is an important way to improve the storage capability of Sb 2 SnO 5 (SSO) anodes. Pertaining to sodium-ion batteries (SIBs), we design and fabricate Sb and Sn embedding porous carbon wires (PCWs) with SSO encapsulated (SSO@Sn/Sb-PCWs) composite as a high capability anode in this study. Not only accelerate the Na + ions diffusion, but also augment the stress resistance and the electrochemical reaction reversibility for the multiphase composite. Furthermore, the porous structure finely increases the ions diffusion kinetics, preventing the aggregation of Sn, Sb, and SSO particles, which achieves high reversible capacity while eliminating structure damage. As a consequence, the fabricated SSO@Sn/Sb-PCWs electrode exhibited exceptional cycling stability, maintaining a high reversible capacity of 448 mAh g −1 after 150 charge/discharge cycles, and good rate capability with current density up to 5.0 A g −1 . This new composite material studied in current work could shed light for the creation of sodium ion batteries with high specific energies in the near future.

Sn metal is believed to be one of the most promising alternative anodes to commercial graphite thanks to the high theoretical capacity and abundant storage. However, large volume change results in pulverization of the bulk electrode, which is more serious in microsized particles, leading to rapid capacity degradation. Therefore, microsized Sn was never successfully applied as the anode for Li-ion batteries. Herein, we report that the as-received Sn microparticles (325 mesh, or ∼45 μm) could be directly used as anodes for LIBs in 2.0 M LiPF6 2-MeTHF or 2.0 M LiPF6 THF/2-MeTHF electrolyte, delivering a high capacity of ∼750 mA h g−1, initial coulombic efficiency of >90%, average cycling coulombic efficiency of ∼99.9%, and capacity retention of 84.1% after 400 cycles at a rate of 2C. This work demonstrated that alloying anodes could be realized by exploring compatible electrolytes and forming compact SEI layers, representing a breakthrough for commercialization of LIBs based on alloying anodes.

How to further improve the thermoelectric performance in Cu3SbSe4-based materials after optimizing its carrier concentration is a difficult issue. The present study attempts to address the issue by investigating thermoelectric performance of Cu3SbSe4 after Sn and La codoping, and all the samples were obtained by using a microwave-assisted hydrothermal synthesis method followed with the spark plasma sintering (SPS) process. First, a series of Cu3Sb1–xSnxSe4 (x = 0–0.03) compounds have been synthesized, and the hole carrier concentration obviously increased with increasing the Sn content. In addition, La doping subsequently was employed to the Cu3Sb0.98Sn0.02Se4 sample to further increase its power factor by band flattening, resulting in a typical high power factor of 1156.5 μWm–1 K–2 and zT of 0.67 in Cu3Sb0.92Sn0.02La0.06Se4 at 623 K. Our study provides a novel methodology through regulating its carrier concentration and band structure for designing high thermoelectric performance Cu3SbSe4-based materials.

Electrochemical reduction and photocatalytic reduction of CO 2 have attracted more and more attention, but they also face the problem of low utilization efficiency of electricity and solar energy. In this study, a new strategy of applying a novel Al–Sn-CNTs composite in electrochemical corrosion process was proposed to reduce CO 2 without additional electricity and light. In the Al–Sn-CNTs/CO 2 system, micro galvanic cell with Al as anode and Sn or CNTs as cathode was formed, and CO 2 was reduced to formic acid on the cathode surface . The cumulative formic acid concentration of the Al–Sn-CNTs/CO 2 system achieved 21.18 mg/L within 60 min under the conditions of initial pH 9.0, Cl − concentration 10 mmol/L, and Al–Sn-CNTs composite dosage 2 g/L. Based on the morphology, crystal structure and electrochemical test results of the Al–Sn-CNTs composite, a possible mechanism of CO 2 reduction to formic acid in the Al–Sn-CNTs/CO 2 system was proposed.

Tin (Sn) has wide prospects in applications as an anode electrode material for Li-ion batteries, due to its high theoretical specific capacity. However, the large volume expansion of Sn during the charge–discharge process causes a performance reduction of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Here, Sn encapsulated N-doped porous carbon fibers (Sn/NPCFs) were synthesized through an electrospinning method with a pyrolysis process. This structure was beneficial for the lithium ion/electron diffusion and buffered the large volume change. By adjusting the amount of Sn, the hybrid carbon fibers with different Sn/carbon ratios could be prepared, and the morphology, composition and properties of the Sn/NPCFs were characterized systematically. The results indicated that the Sn/NPCFs with a Sn-precursor/polymer weight ratio at 0.5 : 1 showed the best cycling stability and specific capacity, preserving the specific capacity of 400 mA h g−1 at the current density of 500 mA g−1 even after 100 cycles.

A series of BaFe 1− x Sn x O 3− δ catalysts were prepared by sol-gel method and tested for N 2 O decomposition to shed light on the effect of B-site substitution on the catalytic behavior of perovskite catalysts. 119 Sn and 57 Fe Mössbauer results confirmed that the 5-fold coordinated Fe 3+ cations with one adjacent oxygen vacancy (Fe 3+ O 5 ) were the main active centers for N 2 O decomposition. Doping of Sn cations can significantly improve the percentage of Fe 3+ O 5 from 30% ( x = 0) to 68% ( x = 0.8). More importantly, the valence state of Fe could be gradually reduced due to weakening of Fe O bond with increasing the Sn content, which was attributed to the stronger force of Sn than Fe in Fe O Sn structure to draw the oxygen anion and expansion of unit cell volume. Such change of Fe chemical state favored the oxygen mobility of the catalyst, leading to reduction in activation energy for N 2 O decomposition from ca. 241 ( x = 0) to 178 kJ mol −1 ( x = 0.8). BaFe 0.2 Sn 0.8 O 3− δ catalyst exhibited the highest intrinsic rate of 1.49 s −1 (550 °C), nearly 4 times larger than that of BaFeO 3− δ (0.43 s −1 ).

Durability is one prerequisite for material application. Photoelectrochemical decomposition of seawater is a promising approach to produce clean hydrogen by using solar energy, but it always faces the problem of serious Cl − corrosion. We find that the main deactivation mechanism of the photoanode is oxide surface reconstruction accompanied by the coordination of Cl − during seawater splitting, and the stability of the photoanode can be effectively improved by enhancing the metal-oxygen interaction. Taking the metastable β -Fe 2 O 3 photoanode as an example, Sn added to the lattice can enhance the M–O bonding energy and hinder the transfer of protons to lattice oxygen, thereby inhibiting excessive surface hydration and Cl − coordination. Therefore, the bare Sn/ β -Fe 2 O 3 photoanode delivers a record durability for photoelectrochemical seawater splitting over 3000 h.

Nowadays, breast milk is considered as the ideal food for infants owing to the most common oleic acid-palmitic acid-oleic acid (OA-PA-OA) fatty acid distribution of the human milk fat (HMF). This study reports the synthesis of 1,3-dioleoyl-2-palmotoylglycerol (OPO)-rich human milk fat substitutes in a two-step enzymatic acidolysis reaction with Rhizomucor miehei lipase (RML) immobilized on magnetic multi-walled carbon nanotubes(mMWCNTs). The immobilized RML (RML-mMWCNTs) showed better thermal and pH stability, convenient recovery and reusability than the free soluble form. Under optimized reaction conditions (1:8 tripalmitin (PPP)/OA, 10%wt. enzyme, 50 °C, 5 h), PA content at the sn- 2 position and OA incorporation at the sn -1,3 positions reached 93.46% and 59.54%, respectively. Comparison tests have also showed that RML-mMWCNTs has better catalytic activity and reusability than the commercial lipase Lipozyme RM IM. The results suggest that RML-mMWCNTs is a promising biocatalyst for the synthesis of OPO-rich TAGs with potential use in infant formulas.

The construction of artificial solid electrolyte interfaces on zinc anodes is recognized as an effective strategy to mitigate zinc dendrite formation and side reactions; however, existing methods are often complex and time-consuming. In this study, we successfully fabricated a highly stable Sn–Al sol protective layer on the surface of the zinc anode using a simple spray-coating technique. This protective layer significantly enhances the electrochemical performance of zinc symmetric cells, achieving stable cycling for over 2500 h at 1 mA cm–2. In Zn//Cu half-cells, the Sn–Al sol coating improves charge–discharge efficiency and cycling stability, with over 500 and 950 cycles at 1 and 5 mA cm–2, respectively. The average charge–discharge efficiency during stable cycling reaches 95.7%, in contrast to 85.0% for bare Zn, indicating improved utilization of Zn2+. Additionally, the Sn–Al sol coating offers enhanced corrosion resistance and effectively promotes uniform Zn2+ growth along the (101) crystal plane, reducing dendrite formation. Overall, this simple spray-coating approach presents significant potential for high-stability modifications of zinc anodes, offering a novel strategy for the industrial application of zinc-ion batteries.
