Multi-layer 2D material assemblies introduce numerous interfaces that would improve microwave absorbing. Here, a 3D porous rGO/Ti 3 C 2 T x /TiO 2 heterostructure was prepared using a one-step hydrothermal synthesis. Due to the presence of the 2D/2D van der Waals heterojunction in rGO/Ti 3 C 2 T x featuring face-to-face contacts, and the 2D/0D heterojunctions in Ti 3 C 2 T x /TiO 2 , the interfacial polarization is optimized. The minimum reflection loss (RL min ) achieves −37.31 dB, and the effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) extends to 6.45 GHz (with<−10 dB). These results not only shed light on understanding and enhancement of interfacial effects, but also provides an appealing mode for the implementation of heterogeneous interfacial engineering using tailored 2D hierarchical structures.

Photoexcitation is an effective method to promote specific gas sensing performance of semiconductor for electronic device. In this work, an interlayered Ti 3 C 2 T X /TiO 2 /ZnO ternary nanoarchitecture was successfully prepared via sequential etching-intercalation and pyrolysis methods, for which the ZIF-8 nanoparticles were initially incorporated into the adjacent interlayers of laminated Ti 3 C 2 T X MXene derived from HF-etching of Ti 3 AlC 2 MAX phase. The resultant multilayered Ti 3 C 2 T X /ZIF-8 nanocomposite was pyrolyzed at 400 o C to form Ti 3 C 2 T X /TiO 2 /ZnO ternary heterostructure , showing high triethylamine (TEA) sensing performance with R a /R g = 98 at 270 o C under 620 nm red-light irradiation, which is 3.1 times higher than that of the value measured under darkness. A rapid response/recovery time of 17 s/86 s is achieved, and it shows excellent TEA sensing selectivity and long-term cyclic stability. The close-stacked nano-/microstructure of Ti 3 C 2 T X /TiO 2 /ZnO effectively contribute to the diffusion and permeation of gas molecules, as well as the photogeneration and migration of charge carriers, leading to its outstanding photoactivated TEA sensing performance. This work provides a feasible approach to exploring high-performance Mxene hybrids for ultrasensitive TEA monitoring.

Research into new composites to enhance the performance of lithium-ion battery electrode materials has become a trendy area of study. Cobalt-based composites are particularly prominent due to their exceptional electrochemical performance and unique physicochemical properties. Additionally, Ti 3 C 2 T x MXenes materials are anticipated to replace graphene and other carbonaceous materials since they possess an open structure and low lithium-ion diffusion barrier. In this work, we employed simple hydrothermal method to combine layered Ti 3 C 2 T x with needle-shaped CoOHF. The resulting nanosheets showed an even dispersion of CoOHF in the surface, leading to a remarkable increase in specific capacity. Furthermore, Ti 3 C 2 T x provided a higher number of lithium-ion active sites and improved the lithium-ion migration rate, while also ensuring the structure and stability of CoOHF. This composite material enables stable cycling for 1000 cycles at high current densities of 2 A g −1 and ultimately shows a large capacity of 802.4 mAh g −1 stably. Additionally, CoOHF/MXene composites display exceptional performance rate and cycling stability. This study highlights new feasible strategies for using multilayer Ti 3 C 2 T x in lithium-ion batteries, along with metal hydroxyfluorides in new, highly efficient lithium-ion battery anode materials.

Two-dimensional materials, such as Ti 3 C 2 T x and graphene oxide (GO), are considered candidates for a new generation of lubricating materials due to their unique physical and chemical properties. However, the dispersion stability of Ti 3 C 2 T x and GO in non-polar oils is insufficient, hindering their potential as lubricating additives. Herein, 1,12-Dodecanediamine (DDM) was used as a bridge to connect Ti3C2Tx and GO, and to reduce graphene oxide (rGO) for forming the stacked two-dimensional multilayer Ti3C2Tx/rGO heterostructures . The multilayer Ti 3 C 2 T x /rGO heterostructure exhibits excellent dispersion stability in PAO 20, ensuring its continuous integration into the tribo-interfaces throughout the friction process. The addition of 0.06 wt% multilayer Ti 3 C 2 T x /rGO to the base oil reduced the average friction coefficient and wear volume by 35.3% and 41.6%. The enhanced lubrication performance is mainly due to the unique multilayer heterostructure of Ti 3 C 2 T x /rGO. During friction, the disintegration of Ti 3 C 2 T x into small fragments effectively safeguards the structural integrity of rGO, thereby facilitating the formation of a robust and smooth multilayer lubrication film. Additionally, Ti3C2Tx is adhered to the wear surface in smaller sizes or evolved into the form of Ti oxides. The emergence of this new composite material is not only expected to solve the problem of insufficient performance of traditional lubricating materials under extreme conditions, but also laid the foundation for expanding the application of two-dimensional materials in the field of lubrication.

Wearing a compression garment (CG) can effectively prevent and treat hypertrophic scars (HS), but the surface of CG is prone to bacterial growth. Therefore, it is particularly important to carry out antibacterial finishing on compression garment fabric (CGF). In order to achieve the purpose of synergistic antibacterial action, improving bacteriostatic rate, and enhancing biological safety, this study prepared a composite material of MXene (Ti3C2Tx), chitosan, and amino silane coupling agent (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (APTES) and its antibacterial CGF. The binding mechanism between the antibacterial composite material and the CGF was explored, and the bacteriostatic rates, wearing properties, and wash fastness of the antibacterial CGF were studied. Results showed that Ti3C2Tx, chitosan, and APTES were covalently bonded to the CGF, achieving synergistic antibacterial effects. The antibacterial CGF without washing showed a bacteriostatic rate of 99.9% against both Gram-negative bacteria Esherichia coli (E. coli, AATCC 6538) and Gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus, AATCC 25922), with washing fastness reaching grade AA. Additionally, the comfort of the antibacterial finishing fabric was affected to a certain extent in terms of flexural rigidity and air permeability, but overall, the wearability of the antibacterial CGF also met the daily wearing needs of patients.

The emerging energy-saving and environmentally friendly capacitive deionization (CDI) technology has attracted more and more attention. However, it remains a great challenge to develop CDI electrode materials with excellent comprehensive properties. Herein, the porous N, P co-doping Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene (N, P-Ti 3 C 2 T x ) was prepared successfully by combining simple flocculation with an annealing process. Benefitting from the synergistic effect of the combination of porous structure and co-doping of N and P heteroatoms, the N, P-Ti 3 C 2 T x exhibits substantial specific surface area, which provides more surface bounding active sites for electrochemical reactions, thus assisting to boost the CDI performance. As a result, the N, P-Ti 3 C 2 T x exhibited an admirable salt (Na + ) adsorption capacity of 53.3 mg g −1 and exceptional recycling property. Impressively, the N, P-Ti 3 C 2 T x also exhibited superior desalination performance of Pb 2+ , characterized by an exceptionally high desalination capacity of up to 168.2 mg g −1 at 1.2 V, and the corresponding desalination rate reached 0.047 mg g −1 s −1 . Additionally, the deionization mechanism involved was elucidated through a series of characterizations. This work will furnish an effective avenue for the innovative design of MXene-based electrode materials toward high-performance CDI.

Peroxymonosulfate (PMS) is a promising technology for increasing the oxidation capacity and promoting the production of active species in the photocatalytic system. SrTiO 3 , a material with a perovskite crystal structure in a cubic form, can activate PMS on its surface and generate non-radical 1 O 2 . Herein, SrTiO 3 /Ti 3 C 2 T x (ST) composites were successfully synthesized using a hydrothermal method based on SrTiO 3 materials. The photocatalytic activation of PMS resulted in the degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride (TC-HCl), with the ST-10 (10 wt% SrTiO 3 /Ti 3 C 2 T x ) composite showing the highest efficiency in TC removal and rapid degradation kinetics, achieving complete TC removal within 10 min. The synergistic interaction between the two components in ST-10 significantly enhanced the activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS), leading to an increased production of free radicals. The larger specific surface area and presence of –OH groups in the composite material facilitated the adsorption and chemical bonding of PMS molecules, thereby improving their overall performance. Quench experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance analysis identified •SO 4 − , •OH, •O 2 – and 1 O 2 as the primary active species responsible for the degradation of TC. Additionally, the degradation pathway of TC was elucidated through mass spectrometry analysis. This study provides valuable insights for the development of effective photocatalysts as promising PMS catalysts in environmental applications.

NO 2 is a toxic gas that poses a significant threat to the environment and human health. In this work, one-dimensional ZnO nanowires and two-dimensional layered titanium carbide (Ti 3 C 2 T x ) have been prepared by hydrothermal and selective chemical etching methods, respectively. The Ti 3 C 2 T x /ZnO composites are synthesized by electrostatic self-assembly method. The characterization results indicate that the ZnO nanowires are uniformly dispersed on the surface of layered Ti 3 C 2 T x to form a heterostructure. Meanwhile, the gas sensitive performance of Ti 3 C 2 T x /ZnO composite material is investigated and compared with that of pure Ti 3 C 2 T x . The results reveal that the composite exhibits a high selectivity as well as sensitivity with a response value (S = Rg/Ra) of 18.66 to 100 ppm NO 2 at 250 ℃, which is 4.3 times higher than that of pure Ti 3 C 2 T x . This proves that the prepared composite material is an effective sensing material for detecting NO 2 gas.

While two-dimensional lamellar materials, specifically Ti 3 C 2 T x MXenes, have shown great promise as wave-absorbing materials, the precise design of interlayer spacing poses a persistent challenge. In this study, Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene layers with adjustable interlayer spacings were crafted using a straightforward molecular welding technique. Through the incorporation of Ni nanoparticles onto the Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene layers using a combination of simple mechanical stirring and carbonation reactions, we successfully developed Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene/Ni/C composites featuring a distinct lamellar structure. A uniform dispersion of Ni nanoparticles on the surface of the Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene nanosheets was found with some of the nanoparticles intercalated into the layers. The Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene/Ni/C composites exhibited a maximum reflection loss (RL) value of −42.3 dB at 12.3 GHz, accompanied by an impressive effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 5.6 GHz. This outstanding absorption performance could be attributed to various factors, including the dielectric loss of the Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene lamellae, reflections and scattering of multiphase heterostructures, the magnetic loss of the Ni nanoparticles, and their synergistic attenuation. Furthermore, Ni nanoparticles with high electrical conductivity induced vortex currents under the alternating influence of electromagnetic waves (EMWs), resulting in a substantial depletion. This study introduces an innovative approach for synthesizing Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene/Ni/C composites with tunable interlayer spacing, showing their potential for applications in microwave absorption (MA).

The tendency of Ti 3 C 2 T x nanosheets to be stacked makes it challenging to immobilize the active material, thus limiting the performance of the storage device. Integrating two-dimensional Ti 3 C 2 T x into three-dimensional (3D) structures is considered one of the important yet challenging approaches to realize ultra-high-performance supercapacitors. In this study, we report the preparation of Ti 3 C 2 T x into a 3D network interconnection structure using the sacrificial template method, with polydopamine (PDA) serving as a coating material for encapsulation. Subsequently, the Ti 3 C 2 T x /PDA composite is combined with NiS as an electrode material. The 3D Ti 3 C 2 T x structure effectively hinders the stacking of Ti 3 C 2 T x , while the –OH groups on the surface of PDA form non-covalent interactions with the functional groups of 3D Ti 3 C 2 T x , preventing its oxidation and accelerating electron transfer. The nitrogen atom in PDA can anchor Ni-S to avoid its detachment, which leads to better electrochemical properties of the prepared composites. Ni-S/3D Ti 3 C 2 T x @PDA as an electrode material had a high specific capacitance of 281.8 mAh/g (1 A/g). The asymmetric supercapacitor using Ni-S/3D Ti 3 C 2 T x @PDA as the anode material achieved a high energy density of 35.5 W kg −1 at 1600 W kg −1 power density, and excellent cycling stability, possessing 98.83 % cycle retention and 84.98 % capacity efficiency at 3 A/g for 10,000 cycles. In summary, it can be seen that Ni-S/3D Ti 3 C 2 T x @PDA materials have great potential for development in supercapacitors.

Industrialization and agricultural demand have both improved human life and led to environmental contamination. Especially the discharge of a lot of poisonous and harmful gases, including ammonia, ammonia pollution has become a pressing problem. High concentrations of ammonia can pose significant threats to both the environment and human health. Therefore, accurate monitoring and detection of ammonia gas are crucial. To address this challenge, we have developed an ammonia gas sensor using In(OH) 3 /Ti 3 C 2 T x nanocomposites through an in-situ electrostatic self-assembly process. This sensor was thoroughly characterized using advanced techniques like XRD, XPS, BET, and TEM. In our tests, the I/M-2 sensor exhibited remarkable performance, achieving a 16.8% response to 100 ppm NH 3 at room temperature, which is a 3.5-fold improvement over the pure Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene sensor. Moreover, it provides swift response time (20 s), high response to low NH 3 concentrations (≤ 10 ppm), and excellent long-term stability (30 days). These exceptional characteristics indicate the immense potential of our In(OH) 3 /Ti 3 C 2 T x gas sensor in ammonia detection. Graphical Abstract

Conventional microwave absorption (MA) hydrogels suffer from inadequate interfacial adhesion, limited mechanical robustness, and narrow absorption bandwidths. Herein, a low-cost zinc chloride hydrate/formic acid deep eutectic solvent was employed to dissolve microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) at room temperature, enabling the synthesis of a MXene/MCC/PAM (MX–C) hydrogel. This hydrogel exhibited enhanced MA capability, adhesive performance, and mechanical strength. After optimizing the concentration of the MXene dispersion to 3.0 wt%, the MX-C hydrogel (without any magnetic component) achieved exceptional MA performance at 2 mm thickness with a reflection loss of less than −10 dB over the entire X-band and a minimum reflection loss of −28 dB. The MA performance arises mainly from conduction loss, aided by polarization and internal reflections. Benefiting from the abundant hydrogen bonds of MCC, MX-C hydrogel demonstrated excellent adhesiveness with adhesion strength as high as 2.13 MPa, enabling its direct attachment to various substrate surfaces without additional binders. MX-C hydrogel also exhibited exceptional deformability with a tensile strain of 524 % and a compressive strain of 47 %. This multifunctional hydrogel integrates strong adhesion, broadband MA, and mechanical flexibility to provide an innovative solution for flexible electromagnetic stealth devices, as well as intelligent camouflage systems.
