With the development of 5G electronic products, solving electromagnetic pollution becomes an urgent issue for human health. In this work, the electromagnetic performance of W-type hexagonal barium ferrite (BaZn 2 Fe 16−x Ta x O 27 ) was improved by doping with high-valence Tantalum (Ta 5+ ) ions. The dependence of the concentrations of Ta 5+ ions on the microstructure, crystal structure and electromagnetic properties was studied in detail. Structural characterizations confirm that the doping Ta 5+ prefers the 4f2 site, increasing the lattice values and grain size, promoting more Fe 3+ translation into Fe 2+ , which effectively improves the electromagnetic properties including saturation magnetization, complex permittivity and permeability. However, some Ta 2 O 5 was also formed at the doping concentration of x = 0.2 which deteriorates the electromagnetic properties. The BaZn 2 Fe 16−x Ta x O 27 ferrite at x = 0.15 obtains the highest value of saturation magnetization of 92 emu/g, the highest intensity of complex permittivity and permeability, showing a potential application in absorbing material.

Mo 2 C doped WC-10Co alloys were prepared via an in - situ synthesis method composed of steps of spray drying, roasting, carbothermal pre-reduction and carbonization-vacuum sintering. The effects of Mo 2 C content on the microstructure and mechanical properties of cemented carbides were studied in detail. The results showed that WC and Mo 2 C formed a complete solid solution by the current method. With the increase of Mo 2 C content from 0 wt% to 0.5 wt%, the effects of solution strengthening and fine grain strengthening were obvious, and the grain size was decreased from 0.72 ± 0.32 μm to 0.62 ± 0.27 μm, while the hardness was improved from 1316 ± 20 HV 30 to 1549 ± 14 HV 30 . However, the (W, Mo)C solid solution would deteriorate the fracture toughness of the alloys. With the further increase of Mo 2 C content to 9 wt%, the lattice distortion in the solid solution became more serious. Meanwhile, the dissolution of more Mo 2 C in the liquid Co further weakened the dissolution-precipitation process of the solid solution, thus inhibiting the growth of grains and increasing the hardness of the alloys. In addition, with the increase of Mo 2 C content, the dominant fracture mode of the alloy changed from transgranular fracture to intergranular fracture .

The block polyether demulsifier prepared by ring-opening polymerization of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide under high temperature and high pressure is the most widely used demulsifier for water in crude oil emulsion. It has the high synthesis risk and cost. Therefore, the development of non-block polyether demulsifier has attracted more and more attention. In this article, a new type of demulsifier was sythesized by radical polymerization of acrylate and cationic monomer. It was found that the copolymer PMA-co-PDBC of methyl acrylate (MA) and benzyldimethyl [2-[(1-oxoallyl)oxy] ethyl] ammonium chloride (DBC) synthesized in the mixed solvent of dipropylene glycol methyl ether and water had a good performance. When dosage of PMA-co-PDBC was 200 mg/L, the dehydration rate of water in crude oil emulsion with 50% water content can reach 80% at 80°C within 4 h. Structural and interface properties analysis presented that PMA-co-PDBC had a microblock structure similar with block polyether and it can effectively reduce the strength of W/O interfacial film to realize the demulsification. Although the demulsification performance of PMA-co-PDBC was not better than block polyether, its preparation safety and cost are much better. The results of this article can provide a new option for the development of crude oil demulsifier.

A highly branched PNDC demulsifier with 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylate as centronucleus was prepared by an efficient “one-pot” strategy. The product was characterized by FT-IR, 1 H-NMR, and TGA. The bottle test was performed to explore the effect of temperature, settling time, pH value, and concentration on the demulsification efficiency (DE). The DE reached an optimal value of 94.63% when the concentration of PNDC, settling time and operated temperature were 100 mg/L, 60 min and 70°C, respectively. Also, the DE could reach 91.58% when the concentration was only 20 mg/L at the same conditions. It showed that PNDC had an excellent performance in W/O emulsions with an extremely low concentration. Especially, PNDC could be used over a wide pH range (4–12) and high salinities, indicating that it had a good salt, acid and alkaline tolerance. In addition, the interfacial tension (IFT), surface tension (SFT), elastic modulus and micrograph analysis were carried out to investigate the possible mechanism. This work provides a highly branched demulsifier with high DE for the demulsification of stable W/O emulsions.

Tungsten (W)-based composites with 1 wt% SiC were consolidated via field assisted sintering (FAST). FAST was conducted at temperatures ranging from 1000 °C to 1700 °C with holding times of 1–10 min under a pressure of 50 MPa. The densification and grain growth mechanisms were investigated using a creep deformation model and the grain growth power law. Various densification and grain growth mechanisms corresponded to different effective stress exponents ( n ) and grain growth exponents ( p ). n is the stress exponent associated with the densification mechanism, and p is the grain growth exponent related to the grain growth mechanism. The densification process mainly occurred at 1000 °C–1400 °C, whereas grain growth mainly occurred at 1500 °C–1700 °C. The W-Si-C composites were densified primarily through particle rearrangement (when n is ∼1), intergranular diffusion (when n is ∼2), and the dislocation-climb mechanism (when n is 3.62). The activation energies were estimated to be 153.80 and 541.17 kJ/mol at the effective stress exponents ( n ) of 1 and 2, respectively. Furthermore, intergranular diffusion is speculated to cause grain growth. The sintering temperature considerably affected the microstructure of W-Si-C composites. The silicide formed at sintering temperatures of <1100 °C was WSi 2 , and it transformed into W 5 Si 3 with increasing sintering temperature.

It has been a great challenge of using natural polysaccharides to stabilize food emulsions , due to their poor amphiphilicity. In this study, a novel strategy of using polysaccharide to stabilize O/W emulsions was developed, through in situ crosslinking of sodium alginate on oil-water interface. During the emulsifying process, the acetic acid migrated across the interface, and induced the released of calcium ions , which immediately crosslinked the sodium alginate on interface. Results showed that the oil droplets were encapsulated in the integral polysaccharide shells. The droplet size of the emulsions located in the range from 20 to 200 μm. The concentration of sodium alginate and HAc, as well as the mixing rates were showed to be positively related with the thickness of the shell. However, excess calcium ions would disintegrate the shell structure. Additionally, the interfacial crosslinked sodium alginate stabilized emulsions exhibited excellent physical stability under centrifugating and freeze-thawing.

Direct selective methane photooxidation to liquid oxygenates with high productivity and selectivity under mild reaction conditions is highly urgent but remains challenging. Herein, a Cu and W codoped TiO2 (Cu–W–TiO2) photocatalyst was fabricated to enable aerobic oxidation of methane into oxygenates with limited formation of CO2 under ambient temperature. A high oxygenate productivity of 34.5 mmol g–1 with a remarkable selectivity of 97.1% was achieved over the Cu–W–TiO2 photocatalyst. Based on structural characterizations and mechanism studies, it was suggested that the Cu species acted as hole traps, while oxygen vacancies and the W6+-dopant state worked as electron traps. The inhibited recombination of photogenerated carriers contributed to enhanced photocatalytic efficiency. The modulated electronic and band structure promoted the activation of methane and hindered the overoxidation of oxygenates.

In this work, with the help of pulsed electrodeposition technology, Ni–W/ZrPP composite coatings on carbon steel surfaces were fabricated. The enhancing effects of inorganic layered alpha-zirconium phosphate (αZrP) and organic zirconium phenylphosphonate (ZrPP) on the surface morphology, microhardness, wear resistance and corrosion resistance of Ni–W coatings were also investigated. The result shows, Ni–W/ZrPP composite coating exhibits the most complete and dense surface morphology without any pinholes and generation of microcracks. Furthermore, the embedding of ZrPP also maximizes the wear and corrosion resistance of the Ni–W coating. This can be reflected by the fact that the Ni–W/ZrPP composite coating has the shallowest and narrowest wear section and the lowest average friction coefficient (0.312). In 3.5 wt.%NaCl solution, the Ni–W/ZrPP composite coating has the highest corrosion potential (E corr = −0.28 V) and the lowest corrosion current density (i corr = 2.3 μA cm −2 ), which show the best corrosion resistance. Relevant mechanistic studies have proven that embedding ZrPP with larger interlayer spacing in the coating is beneficial to promote the interlayer slip of 2D materials and to from frictional transfer films. The hydrophobic group and lamellar structure at the end of ZrPP are also contributors to build a physical barrier and prevent corrosive media from entering the coating.

A series of protic ionic liquids (PILs) containing dibutyldithiophosphate were simply synthesised and used as lubricant additive in base emulsion. The physico-chemical and lubricating properties of PILs in emulsion were systematically investigated. The stability of prepared emulsions containing PILs were similar with base emulsions by particle size distribution tests. Compared with traditional additive of polysulfide, the PILs in emulsion exhibited superior lubricating properties under harsh conditions. Surprisingly, the oil-miscible O-PILs in emulsion showed better friction and wear reduction than water-miscible T-PILs in emulsion. The stable protective films formed on the steel surface by results of scanning electron microscope and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were the main reason for the preferable performance.

Graphical Not too radical : Low-cost and highly effective W-doped TiO 2 photocatalysts are prepared to achieve the photocatalytic oxidation of methane with O 2 under mild conditions. The increased separation of photogenerated carriers promotes the photocatalytic activity. The upshifted band structure prohibits the over-generation of hydroxyl radicals (⋅OH) to decrease the overoxidation of liquid oxygenates. Highly selective conversion of methane to oxygenates with O 2 as a green oxidant remains a great challenge. It is still difficult to suppress the generation of CO x ( x =1, 2) as undesired by-products due to unavoidable overoxidation reaction. Hence, tungsten-doped (W-doped) TiO 2 photocatalysts were designed with a tunable band structure for photocatalytic oxidation of methane to C 1 oxygenates using O 2 at low temperature (30 °C). The W-doping effectively modified the electronic and band structure of pristine TiO 2 to enhance photocatalytic performance. Liquid oxygenates productivity could reach as high as 12.2 mmol g −1 with high selectivity of 99.4 %. Moreover, CO x selectivity was effectively decreased from 21.2 % over TiO 2 to 0.6 % for W-doped catalyst. Detailed characterizations further disclosed that W-doping not only enhanced light absorption, but also promoted the separation of photo-generated carriers to improve methane conversion. This work provides new insights into the design of highly efficient photocatalysts for methane oxidation.

Electrochemical water splitting to produce clean hydrogen (H2) and oxygen (O2) has emerged as an advanced technology to build a sustainable society. Low-cost electrocatalysts with excellent performance are required to improve the energy efficiency in overall water splitting. Here, a Co-W-B-P/CF catalyst with a nanoflower-like structure consisting of microspheres and nanoflakes was successfully synthesized using a one-step double-pulse electrodeposition approach. When used as a bifunctional electrocatalyst for overall water splitting, Co-W-B-P/CF presented the potentials of 1.57 and 1.86 V at current densities of 10 and 100 mA cm–2 in 1.0 M KOH solution, respectively. This was even comparable to that of the high-cost commercial catalyst Pt/C(−)//IrO2(+). Detailed electrochemical tests also showed that the kinetics, electron transfer, and intrinsic electrocatalytic activity of Co-W-B-P/CF in the HER (hydrogen evolution reaction) and the OER (oxygen evolution reaction) were dramatically improved due to the synergetic effect of co-doped B and P elements. Considering the excellent electrocatalytic performance of Co-W-B-P/CF, along with the simple synthesis method and low cost, bifunctional electrocatalyst Co-W-B-P/CF for overall water splitting is promising.

BACKGROUND The stabilization of oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions has long been explored. Assembly of polymer networks is an effective method for stabilizing O/W emulsions. Konjac glucomannan (KGM) is a plant polysaccharide and the network of KGM gel is a good candidate for stabilizing O/W emulsions based on its high viscosity and thickening properties. However, natural KGM has strong hydrophilicity and is not able to offer interfacial activity. Octenyl succinic anhydride (OSA) is a hydrophobic molecule, which is widely used as thickener and stabilizer in food emulsions. In this work, the amphiphilic biopolymer (OSA-KGM) was fabricated by modifying the KGM with OSA. Furthermore, OSA-KGM biopolymer was used to prepare O/W emulsions, which were then freeze-dried and used to prepare oleogels as fat substitute for bakery products. RESULTS OSA-KGM had advanced hydrophobicity with water contact angle 81.13° and adsorption behavior at the oil–water interface, with interfacial tension decreasing from 18.52 to 13.57 mN m −1 within 1 h. The emulsification of OSA-KGM remarkably improved the stability of emulsions without phase separation during storage for 31 days. Oleogels with OSA-KGM showed good thixotropic and structure recovery properties (approximately 100%) and low oil loss (from 69.5% to 50.4%). Cakes made from oleogels had a softer texture than cakes made from peanut oil and margarine. CONCLUSION Amphiphilic biopolymer OSA-KGM shows advanced interfacial activity and hydrophobicity. This paper provides an insight into preparing stable O/W emulsions with a new biopolymer and oleogels potentially applied as fat substitute in bakery products. © 2022 Society of Chemical Industry.
