Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) have gained much attention in absorption and extraction fields due to their special structure and properties like high porosity, large surface area and excellent anion exchange capacity. However, LDHs are rarely used in capillary electrochromatography (CEC) by date due to the lack of appropriate immobilization method. In this work, by utilizing the unique coordination bonding between metal ions on LDHs and catechol groups on polydopamine layer, a polydopamine modification method was developed for in situ immobilization of LDHs on the inner surface of fused silica capillary. The formation of CoAl-LDHs on polydopamine-immobilized capillary has been characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. The CoAl-LDHs-modified open-tubular capillary exhibited good separation performance towards neutral compounds by cation-π interaction and hydrophobic interaction. More interestingly, by virtue of the coordination interaction between metal ions on LDHs layer and phenolic hydroxyl groups, the LDHs-modified capillary has shown good separation efficiency towards various phenolic compounds. Repeatability of the column was studied, with the relative standard deviations for intra-day, inter-day and column-to-column lower than 4.3%.

The authors have immobilized nanowires made from zirconium glycerolate (ZrGly) on magnetite (Fe 3 O 4 ) nanoparticles by applying a solvothermal growth process using metal-glycerolate as a precursor. The structure and the dissolution-recrystallization mechanism of the resulting Fe 3 O 4 @ZrGly composite were investigated by attenuated total reflection-FTIR, energy-dispersive X-ray analysis, thermogravimetric analysis and solid-state cross polarization/magic angle spinning 13 C NMR spectroscopy. The interaction between the zirconium glycerolate in Fe 3 O 4 @ZrGly and cis -diols leads to efficient adsorption of riboncleosides which then can be quantified by HPLC with UV detection. The sorbent was successfully applied to the selective enrichment of adenosine, cytidine, uridine and guanosine from spiked human urine samples. The detection limit of the method is in the range from 1.7 to 19 ng·mL −1 of nucleosides in spiked human urine, with relative standard deviations of lower than 12.4% and recoveries ranging from 90.6 to 113%.
Fe 3 O 4 @ZrGly with high selectivity towards ribonucleosides was designed and applied for quantitation of urinary ribonucleosides.

Gd 2 Zr 2 O 7 (GZO)-based ceramic waste form has attracted broad interest due to its potential applications in the long-term disposal of high-level nuclear waste . However, its high-capacity isomorphic immobilization and leaching mechanism are not well understood yet. Herein, GZO-based waste form with a single pyrochlore phase and homogeneous element distribution, achieving an isomorphic waste load as high as 50 wt%, was fabricated successfully. Isomorphism failure of the waste form is due to the Ln 6 MoO 12 (Ln is lanthanides) formation and direct precipitation of PdO from the oversaturated solid solution. Chemical durability tests showed that the 42-day leaching rates of nearly all elements in the waste form with the maximum waste load were only between 10 −6 and 10 −5 gm −2 d −1 . The leaching of 0.5SW·0.5GZO over a period of 42 days is primarily controlled by dissolution, leading to a gradual restructuring of the surface in two distinct stages: the formation of an amorphous passivation film and the agglomeration of amorphous precipitates. Notably, the formation of the amorphous passivation film stands as the primary factor influencing the leaching rate of the waste form.

A new kind of covalent organic framework (COF) was first utilized as an stationary phase for open-tubular electrochromatography (OT-CEC) by in situ synthesis immobilized method at room temperature. On the basis of our previous work, 4,4′,4″-(1,3,5-Triazine-2,4,6-triyl)trianiline (TZ) and 2,5-bis(2-propyn-1-yloxy)-1,4-benzenedicarboxaldehyde (BPTA) were employed as building blocks for the synthesis of COF TZ-BPTA. The coated capillary and COF TZ-BPTA were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Then, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were also applied to characterize COF TZ-BPTA and the modified column. In SEM, it can be seen that COF TZ-BPTA was the spherical shape and the modified capillary was covered with globular particles equably. The COF TZ-BPTA coated column exhibited good separation resolution and efficiency towards two antiepileptic drugs and other kinds of small organic molecules involving alkylbenzene, sulfonamides, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH), parabens, amino acids and herbicides. The maximum column efficiency was over 2.8 × 10 5 plates·m −1 . In addition, the precisions (RSDs) of the retention times for the alkylbenzenes of intra-day runs (n = 3), inter-day runs (n = 3) and column-to-column runs (n = 3) were all less than 1.70% and separation performance was without obvious change within 100 times run. In addition, the real sample was tested on COF TZ-BPTA coated column. Hence, COF TZ-BPTA showed great potential in the separation domain.

The inhibition of tyrosinase is considered to be a common therapeutic strategy for some hyperpigmentation disorders. Screening of tyrosinase inhibitors is of great significance to the treatment of pigmentation diseases. In this study, tyrosinase was covalently immobilized on magnetic multi-walled carbon nanotubes for the first time, and the immobilized tyrosinase was applied for ligand fishing of tyrosinase inhibitors from complex medicinal plants. The immobilized tyrosinase was characterized by transmission electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, vibrating sample magnetometry, and thermo-gravimetric analyzer, which indicated that tyrosinase was immobilized onto magnetic multi-walled carbon nanotubes. The immobilized tyrosinase showed better thermal stability and reusability than the free one. The ligand was fished out from Radix Paeoniae Alba and identified as 1,2,3,4,6-pentagalloylglucose by ultra-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight high-resolution mass spectrometry. 1,2,3,4,6-pentagalloylglucose was found to be a tyrosinase inhibitor with similar half maximal inhibitory concentration values of 57.13 ± 0.91 μM compared to kojic acid (41.96 ± 0.78 μM). This work not only established a new method for screening tyrosinase inhibitors but also holds considerable potential for exploring the new medicinal value of medicinal plants.

Cadmium pollution in the soil induces significant hazards to agricultural growth and public health. Therefore, new routes are needed to develop low-cost soil amendments that can effectively stabilize cadmium and improve soil fertility. This study introduces modified illite (MIT) with the enhanced ability to stabilize heavy metal Cd through the mixing of illite with calcium carbonate, silicate and sulfate in specific proportions by using the well-known calcination-hydrothermal process. The characterization findings revealed that the modified MIT is predominantly composed of gehlenite and akermanite, with greatly improved specific surface area, pore structure and cation exchange capacity. The main purpose of the present study is to unravel a plausible mechanism on how MIT can stabilize Cd(II) in the soil and to investigate the effect of MIT on the fertility of the contaminated soil. Experiments on soil remediation revealed that MIT has a more profound stabilizing impact on Cd(II) compared to natural illite, resulting in a 22.84% reduction in acid-soluble Cd of the soil when MIT was dosed at 0.5%. The potential mechanism of Cd(II) immobilization by MIT involves the ionic exchange of Cd2+with the exchangeable Ca2+and Mg2+. In addition, the hydrolysis products of gehlenite and akermanite are prone to form silicate precipitates with free Cd, leading to soil pH increment. The pot experiments showed that MIT significantly reduces the cadmium content of soil and improves the growth of water spinach organs. Meanwhile, enhancement of the indicators in rhizosphere soil further proved that MIT effectively increases the nutrient content, improves the soil structure and promotes microorganism growth. Keywords:modified illite;clay mineral;heavy metal;immobilization;soil fertility

In this study, a ligand fishing method was developed to screen potential indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase 1 (IDO1) inhibitors from coffee extracts by immobilization of IDO1 enzyme on amino-modified magnetic nanoparticles combined with UHPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS analysis. Parameters including enzyme concentration, immobilization time, the pH of glutaraldehyde and the amount of magnetic nanoparticles were optimized. The results indicated that immobilized IDO1 could be reused 5 times and was stable during storage for 7 days. Several IDO1 ligands were captured by incubating immobilized IDO1 with coffee extract, of which 10 showed an obvious difference comparing to non-conjugated bare nanoparticles. In vitro inhibitory activity was further performed by CE analysis, in which ferulic acid and chlorogenic acid had better IDO1 inhibitory activity, with IC 50 value of 113.7 μM and 307.5 μM. These results demonstrate that this method provides an effective platform for identifying and screening IDO1 inhibitors from natural products.

A three-in-one heterogeneous catalyst (UPO@dTiO2-CD) was fabricated by grafting cyclodextrins (CDs) on the dehiscent TiO2 (dTiO2) surface and subsequently immobilizing unspecific peroxygenase (rAaeUPO), which exhibited double enhanced electron/mass transfer in photo-enzymatic enantioselective hydroxylation of the C–H bond. The tunable anatase/rutile phase ratio and dehiscent mesoporous architectures of dTiO2 and the electron donor feature and hydrophobic inner cavity of the CDs are independently responsible for accelerating both electron and mass transfer. The coordination of the photocatalytic and enzymatic steps was achieved by structural and compositional regulation. The optimized UPO@dTiO2-CD not only displayed high catalytic efficiency (turnover number and turnover frequency of rAaeUPO up to >65,000 and 91 min–1, respectively) but also exhibited high stability and reusability.

The effective capture and storage of the generated radioactive contaminant (iodine) are of great significance with the extensive use of nuclear energy. In this work, a novel Cu nanoporous aerogel (Cu-NPA) was prepared by using inorganic Cu salt as precursors. The as-prepared Cu-NPA was fully characterized in detail, and the I 2 adsorption and stability capability of Cu-NPA has been investigated in the solution. The results showed that Cu-NPA has high specific surface area and porosity. The structure of hierarchical pores is conducive to the rapid enrichment of pollutants in water. Adsorption experiments showed that Cu-NPA had ultra-high I 2 adsorption capacity (1384 mg/g) and fast equilibrium adsorption time (10 min). The I 2 in the solution (c < 1200 mg/g) can be almost completely removed. In addition, Cu-NPA exhibits good stability in the air and can be exposed to air for a long time. In general, our work demonstrated the preparation of Cu-NPA and its great potential in the field of rapidly eliminating radioactive I 2 .

Immobilized enzymes have drawn extensive attention due to their enhanced stability, easy separation from reaction mixture, and prominent recyclability. Nevertheless, it is still an ongoing challenge to develop potent immobilization techniques which are capable of stable enzyme encapsulation, minimal loss of activity, and modulability for various enzymes and applications. These microfibers were able to efficiently encapsulate bovine serum albumin (BSA), glucose oxidase (GOx), and horseradish peroxidase (HRP). But the physically adsorbed enzymes readily diffused into the catalytic reaction system. The leakage of enzymes could be substantially inhibited by conjugating to poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) and incorporating into alginate-based microfibers, enabling stable immobilization, improved recyclability, and enhanced thermostability. In addition, GOx and HRP-loaded microfibers were fabricated under the optimized conditions for the visual detection of glucose using the cascade reaction of these enzymes, showing sensitive color change to glucose with concentration range of 0–2 m m . Due to the tunability and versatility, this microfluidic-based microfiber platform may provide a valuable approach to the enzyme immobilization for the cascade catalysis and diagnoses with multiple clinical markers. Graphical and Lay Summary Development of potent techniques for the immobilization of enzymes with stable encapsulation, minimal loss of activity, and good reusability is an ongoing challenge. In this study, authors developed co-flow microfluidic devices for the fabrication of alginate-based microfibers with tunable size and crosslinking degree for the stable immobilization of glucose oxidase and horseradish peroxidase. This microfluidic platform has great potential in the construction of customizable enzyme-loaded microfibers for the cascade catalysis and diagnoses with multiple clinical markers.

As a series of metal organic framework (MOFs), materials of institute lavoisier frameworks (MILs) are expected to be excellent supports for enzyme immobilization due to their good water-stability and acid tolerance. However, enzyme loading on MIL-125-NH 2 is very low due to small pore size and few amino groups on the surface of the MIL-125-NH 2 . In this work, catalase (CAT) was immobilized on the MIL-125-NH 2 and amino functionalized MIL-125-NH 2 by adsorption (CAT@MIL-125-NH 2 ) and covalent binding (CAT@Amino MIL-125-NH 2 ), respectively. Compared with the CAT@MIL-125-NH 2 and free CAT, the CAT@Amino MIL-125-NH 2 displayed high activity recovery, good pH stability, stability against denaturants, and thermostability. Furthermore, activity recovery of CAT@Amino MIL-125-NH 2 was 56% higher than CAT@MIL-125-NH 2 . The CAT@Amino MIL-125-NH 2 still retained 50% residual activity for 14 days at room temperature, whereas free CAT lost activity after storage for 1 day at the same storage conditions. Furthermore, the CAT@Amino MIL-125-NH 2 maintained 62% of its initial activity after 4 consecutive uses, showing good reusability. The results showed that the amino functionalized MIL-125-NH 2 is an excellent carrier of enzyme immobilization.

Electrochemical techniques are considered promising applications to immobilize uranium in alkaline wastewater in order to prevent its migration into groundwater and soil. In this work, the results of electrochemical and Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) demonstrate a successful immobilization of uranyl in the carbonate system by U(VI)-U(V), U(V)-U(IV) reduction, and U(V) disproportionation reactions. The results indicated that the electrochemical fixation rate in alkaline system could reach more than 99%. The valence state of uranium is the key factor affecting its migration in the working system. Where, the analysis of the immobilized samples by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) revealed that pHs, current density, and the presence of foreign cations significantly affect the valence state of uranium in the immobilized samples. Under same conditions, the reduction reactions of U(VI)-U(V) and U(V)-U(IV) occurred easily. Where, at pH higher than 3.4 or the current density in the range of 0.5–20 mA/cm 2 , high content of U(V) and U(IV) in the immobilized products was obtained. Other conditions favored the occurrence of the electrolytic water reaction, and the immobilized samples were dominated by U(VI). It was found that the temperature showed the greatest effect on the electrochemical immobilization rate. Where, the electrochemical immobilization rate increased by about 1.8 times when the ambient temperature increased from 293.15 to 328.15 K. This study provides a new idea for the immobilization of uranium in alkaline wastewater and demonstrates the feasibility of electrochemical immobilization of uranium in alkaline systems.
