To meet the increasing demand for green and low-carbon development, increasingly stringent performance criteria have been established for both the recoverable energy storage density ( W rec ) and the energy storage efficiency ( η ) of dielectric energy storage capacitors. In this work, Zr 4+ ions were introduced into the B-sites of the 0.9[0.88BaTiO 3 -0.12Bi(Mg 2/3 (Nb 0.85 Ta 0.15 ) 1/3 )O 3 ]-0.1Bi 0.5 Na 0.5 TiO 3 (BT-BMNT-BNT) weakly coupled relaxor ferroelectric ceramics to enhance the structural disorder of the ceramics, which facilitates the formation of polar nanoregions (PNRs). The emergence of PNRs intensifies the relaxor behavior of the ceramics, thereby reducing remanent polarization ( P r ) and maintaining high η . Furthermore, the incorporation of Zr 4+ ions significantly enhanced the insulating properties of the ceramics, leading to a substantial increase in the breakdown electric field ( E b ). Consequently, the W rec and η of the optimized BT-BMNT-BNT-0.2Zr ceramic reached 5.43 J/cm 3 and 91.77% at 620 kV/cm, representing a substantial improvement in enhancing the energy storage performance of BT-based ceramics. In addition, the BT-BMNT-BNT-0.2Zr ceramic exhibits excellent pulse performances, including an exceptional discharge energy density ( W D ≈3 J/cm 3 ), an ultra-short discharge time ( t 0.9 ≈48 ns), and excellent thermal stability ( W D variation < +8.9%, 25 °C-180 °C) and fatigue resistance ( W D variation < +9.5%, within 450 cycles). These results demonstrate the strong potential of the BT-BMNT-BNT-0.2Zr ceramic for advanced dielectric energy storage capacitor applications.

Flexible piezoelectric fibers are promising materials for next-generation wearable and flexible electronic devices due to their lightweight structure, mechanical flexibility, and electromechanical response. In this study, BaTiO3/PVDF composite fibers were prepared by melt spinning under an electrostatic field, followed by thermal drawing to enhance the electroactive phase content. The effects of BaTiO3loading, draw ratio, thermal stretching ratio, stretching rate, and electric field strength on the crystalline structure of the fibers were systematically investigated. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, and electron microscopy were used to evaluate phase evolution, crystallinity, and filler distribution. The results showed that the processing conditions significantly influenced the transformation of PVDF from the α-phase to the electroactive β-phase. The optimized fibers were obtained at 1 wt.% BaTiO3, a thermal stretching ratio of 5, a stretching rate of 40 mm/min, and an electric field strength of 18 kV, resulting in a crystallinity of 61.3% and a β-phase content of 95.5%. The enhanced structural characteristics indicate the strong potential of the developed composite fibers for flexible electroactive applications, though direct electromechanical characterization is required for device integration.

Firstly, the BaTiO 3 nanoparticles were coated with a layer of paraffin, forming a core shell structure. Then, as-prepared paraffin@BaTiO 3 nanofillers were directly blended with polyimide (PI) prepolymer to fabricate paraffin@BaTiO 3 /PI composite films. The microstructure, thermal, and dielectric properties were investigated in detail. The surface-modified paraffin@BaTiO 3 nanoparticles exhibited a typical core shell structure with uniform and complete coverage. The char yield of the composite film with 10 wt% paraffin@BaTiO 3 increased from 56.40% to 70.73%. It is obvious that the paraffin@BaTiO 3 nanofillers have a positive effect on ablative performance of the composite film. Compared with pure PI, the ε r of paraffin@BaTiO 3 /PI composites with 40% mass fraction increased from 3.41 to 9.35 (1 kHz). The tanδ of paraffin@BaTiO 3 /PI composites was just 0.0065 (1 kHz) when the filler loading was 40 wt%. Temperature dependency of the permittivity of the composites reveals a zero-temperature-coefficient from 80°C to 180°C.

The application of advanced pulse power capacitors strongly depends on the fabrication of high-performance energy storage ceramics. However, the low recoverable energy storage density ( W rec ) and energy efficiency ( η ) become the key links limiting the development of energy storage capacitors. In this work, a high W rec of ∼5.57 J cm −3 and a large η of ∼85.6% are simultaneously realized in BaTiO 3 -based relaxor ceramics via multi-dimensional collaborative design, which are mainly attributed to the ferroelectric-relaxor transition, enhanced polarization, improved breakdown electric field, and delayed polarization saturation. Furthermore, the excellent temperature stability (Δ W rec < ± 5%, 25–140 °C), frequency stability (Δ W rec < ± 5%, 1–200 Hz), and outstanding charge/discharge performance (current density ∼1583.3 A cm −2 , power density ∼190.0 MW cm −3 ) with good thermal stability are also achieved. It is encouraging that this work demonstrates that multi-dimensional collaborative design is a good strategy to develop new high-performance lead-free materials used in advanced dielectric capacitors.

High-efficient and recyclable piezocatalysts are promising to utilize natural mechanical energy in piezocatalytic degradation for environmental purification. Herein, a new piezoelectric membrane with dual piezoelectric potentials was fabricated by embedding piezoelectric BaTiO 3 nanocubes in piezoelectric PVDF polymeric film . In particular, the pre-modified controlled oxygen vacancies in BaTiO 3 nanocubes (BTO-OVs) enhanced the adsorption and activation of dissolved oxygen in water, promoting the generation of reactive radicals. And the PVDF film embedded by BTO-OVs had boosted piezoelectric property and improved hydrophilicity and porosity after socking. Thus, the hydrophilic porous composite membrane (HPVDF/BTO-OVs) had efficient adsorption and piezocatalytic degradation of Bisphenol A in water under ultrasonic vibration and the removal efficiency is 14 times higher than that of pure PVDF film. In addition, the HPVDF/BTO-OVs membrane adhered on impeller can effectively remove BPA under 900 rpm stirring, which provided a promising material for water purification utilizing low-frequency mechanical energy from nature.

To achieve high deformation under a low electric field intensity is still a big challenge for the dielectric elastomers (DE) potentially used in artificial electronic skin and artificial muscles. Herein, poly-dopamine (PDA) modified 1D barium titanate (BT@PDA) nanofibers and 2D MXene nanosheets with high aspect ratio and large dipole moment were fabricated, and introduced into TPU elastomers. Results showed that the interfacial polarization and micro-capacitor structure formed by MXene sheets lead to the high dielectric constant, and high dielectric loss of MXene/TPU composites with low modulus. The interfacial polarization caused by BT@PDA nanofibers resulting in high dielectric constant and low dielectric loss of BT@PDA/TPU composites with high modulus. Combing the advantages of the two fillers, the MXene/BT@PDA/TPU composites showed high dielectric constant, low dielectric loss, low modulus. The electrical sensitivity factor of 0.5 wt% MXene/5 wt% BT@PDA/TPU composite (11.38) was much higher than the sum of that of 0.5 wt% MXene/TPU (1.73) and 5 wt% BT@PDA/TPU (4.35) composites at a low filler content, showing the 0.5 wt% MXene/5 wt% BT@PDA/TPU dielectric composite had a large deformation under a low electric field. This work can provide an effect strategy to design DE nanocomposites with good deformation performance.

Ceramic/polymer nanocomposites have been extensively explored for dielectric capacitor application due to their high energy storage performance and ease of processing, flexibility, and low cost. However, improving compatibility between inorganic and organic materials is of great significance and has been a long-standing challenge. In this work, the polymer surfactant Pluronic™ F127 was employed to perform surface modification of BaTiO 3 through a facile solution process. The compatibility between BaTiO 3 nanoparticles and P (VDF-HFP) can be remarkably strengthened by the affinity between F127 polymer chains and the organic matrix. Structural defects such as pores, cracks, and agglomeration of inorganic particles were obviously reduced, and interfacial polarization has been significantly enhanced. The discharged energy density U d and charge–discharge efficiency η reach up to 5.0 J/cm 3 and 58.1% under the breakdown strength of 3740 kV/cm for the nanocomposite containing 1 vol% BT@F127. These dielectric properties are clearly better than the nanocomposite using unmodified BT, as well as similar hybrids reported previously.

BiFeO 3 -BaTiO 3 is a promising high-temperature lead-free piezo-ceramics due to its high Curie temperature ( T C > 500 °C) and excellent piezoelectric properties. However, a high leakage current was often detected in this system, which severely affects its applications. In this work, the 0.7BiFe (1− x ) Ga x O 3 -0.3BaTiO 3 (BFGa x -BT, 0.00 ≤ x ≤ 0.10) system was designed to reveal the reason of leakage-current density decreased by their leakage mechanism. Because of the suppression of generation of Fe 2+ and oxygen vacancy ( V O ∙ ∙ ), the leakage mechanism from space charge limited conduction mechanism found in Ga-free BF-BT ceramics turns into Ohmic conduction and Schottky emission mechanism as Fe 3+ was replaced with Ga 3+ . A good combination of piezoelectric properties ( d 33 = 174 pC N −1 and k p = 29%) and high Curie temperature ( T C = 497 °C) was achieved in the BFGa0.06-BT ceramic owning the lowest leakage-current density. This work will provide the clues for preparing the high insulation and high piezoelectric performance BF-BT-based ceramics by suppressing the valence change of Fe 3+ and V O ∙ ∙ appearance.

Soft magnetic composites (SMCs) are extensively used for designing and manufacturing high-performance electronic devices, such as inductors, filters, mutual inductors and chokes, owing to their high effective permeability ( μ e ) and stable magnetic properties . However, the production of SMCs that meet the demands of high resistivity, high effective permeability ( μ e ), and low core losses ( P cv ), which are required for high-frequency miniaturized electronic systems, is challenging. In this study, we improve the electromagnetic performance of SMCs by coating FeSiCr metal particles with BaTiO 3 dielectric ceramic powder at various concentrations (0.00–3.75 wt%). The micro-morphological, static magnetic, resistivity ( ρ ), and core loss ( P cv ) properties of FeSiCr@BaTiO 3 SMCs are comprehensively investigated. Energy dispersive spectroscopy elemental distribution mapping is used to confirm the formation of core-shell structures with excellent coating quality. With an increase in the BaTiO 3 dielectric powder content, the core losses, P cv (at 800 kHz, 10 mT and 25 °C), initially decrease and subsequently increase, and comprise hysteresis losses ( P h ) and eddy current losses ( P e ). Moreover, owing to the introduction of the non-magnetic-phase BaTiO 3 powder, hysteresis losses increase monotonically, whereas eddy current losses exhibit the opposite trend. The FeSiCr@BaTiO 3 SMCs with 2.25 wt% BaTiO 3 dielectric ceramic powder exhibit outstanding comprehensive electromagnetic properties with an effective permeability of μ e = 48, saturated magnetization of M s = 115 emu/g, core losses of P cv = 42 mW/cm 3 (at 800 kHz, 10 mT and 25 °C), and resistivity of ρ = 2.74 × 10 5 Ω∙m. These state-of-the-art FeSiCr@BaTiO 3 SMCs present considerable potential for application in high-performance power devices and components.

Piezoelectric composites have shown great potential in constructing electrical microenvironment for bone healing since their integration of polymer flexibility and ceramic piezoelectric coefficient. Herein, core-shell structured BaTiO 3 @carbon (BT@C) hybrid nanoparticles were prepared by in situ oxidative self-polymerization and template carbonization. Then the BT@C was introduced into polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) scaffolds manufactured by selective laser sintering. On one hand, the carbon shell could strengthen the local electric field loaded on BT in poling process owing to it served as a diffusion layer to provide space for charge transfer and accumulation. In this case, more electric domain within BT would be aligned along the polarization field direction and thus promoted the paly of BT's piezoelectric activity. On the other hand, the carbon shell could induce the formation of β phase due to the sp 2 hybrid-bonded carbon atoms in carbon shell forming electrostatic interaction with hydrogen atoms in PVDF chains, which further enhanced the piezoelectric response of the scaffolds. Results showed that the scaffold presented augmented piezoelectric performance with output voltage of 5.7 V and current of 79.8 nA. The improved electrical signals effectively accelerated cell proliferation and differentiation. Furthermore, the scaffold displayed improved mechanical performance due to rigid particle strengthen effect.

Flexible nanocomposite dielectrics with high dielectric constant and discharge energy density have broad application prospects in the field of energy storage. However, dielectrics with high dielectric constant tend to have a high dielectric loss. Herein, we prepared a dielectric composite material with ultra-high discharge energy density by modifying the interface between nanoparticles and poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (P[VDF-HFP]). After coating a shell of insulating amorphous SiO 2 (~7 nm) outside the barium titanate (BT), the electric field concentration and current density inside BT particles can be significantly reduced. In addition, coating the SiO 2 shell with a polydopamine (PDA) shell (~7 nm) not only enhances the interface interaction between the nanoparticles and the polymer matrix, but also can form lots of microcapacitors in the composite. As a result, an ultra-high discharge energy density of 13.78 J/cm 3 at the expense of relatively inconspicuous efficiency (~59.8%) in the BT@SiO 2 @PDA/P (VDF-HFP) with 2.5 wt% loading has been achieved under 460 kV/mm. This is mainly attributed to the increases of dielectric constant from 12.1 to 14.2 and the relatively low dielectric loss (0.086) at 100 Hz. Moreover, compared with the pure P (VDF-HFP) (400 kV/mm), the breakdown voltage of the composite with 2.5 wt% loading is surged to 460 kV/mm, which benefited from the hindrance of nanoparticles on carrier migration at low content. This work has realized a thin-film dielectric with ultra-high discharge energy density through a novel design of the nanoparticle structure, providing a theoretical direction for the development of polymer dielectric capacitors.

Polymer composites with high dielectric constant and thermal stability have shown great potential applications in the fields relating to the energy storage. Herein, core-shell structured polyimide@BaTiO3 (PI@BT) nanoparticles were fabricated via in-situ polymerization of poly(amic acid) (PAA) and the following thermal imidization, then utilized as fillers to prepare PI composites. Increased dielectric constant with suppressed dielectric loss, and enhanced energy density as well as heat resistance were simultaneously realized due to the presence of PI shell between BT nanoparticles and PI matrix. The dielectric constant of PI@BT/PI composites with 55 wt% fillers increased to 15.0 at 100 Hz, while the dielectric loss kept at low value of 0.0034, companied by a high energy density of 1.32 J·cm−3, which was 2.09 times higher than the pristine PI. Moreover, the temperature at 10 wt% weight loss reached 619°C, demonstrating the excellent thermostability of PI@BT/PI composites. In addition, PI@BT/PI composites exhibited improved breakdown strength and toughness as compared with the BT/PI composites due to the well dispersion of PI@BT nanofillers and the improved interfacial interactions between nanofillers and polymer matrix. These results provide useful information for the structural design of high-temperature dielectric materials.
