Photocatalytic hydrogen peroxide production offers a greener alternative, but its efficiency is limited by high carrier recombination. Covalent organic frameworks, with their highly ordered structures and tunable properties, are promising photocatalysts. However, their application in H 2 O 2 production has been constrained by the lack of effective strategies to enhance catalytic activity. In this study, BiOCl/COF (TFPB-BPY) S-scheme heterojunctions were prepared via a simple in-situ growth method. The heterojunction exploits the nitrogen-rich architecture and charge transport of the COF, combined with the broad light absorption and internal electric field of BiOCl. This synergy enables superior visible light absorption, efficient charge separation, and suppressed recombination. Mechanistic studies confirmed the S-scheme mechanism as the key to its enhanced performance. This work provides a scalable and eco-friendly strategy for improving COF-based photocatalysts through S-scheme heterojunctions, offering a pathway for sustainable H 2 O 2 production and advancing the rational design of photocatalysts for green energy applications.

Green solid phase microextraction (SPME) is a promising technique for effectively enriching high-profile and trace antibiotics, while its limited extraction phase volume and adsorbent load restrict the extraction efficiency. It remains a challenge to develop a rationally designed device with a high proportion of adsorbents for increased performance. Herein, using 3,8-diamino-6-phenylphenanthridine (DPP) and 1,3,5-triformylphloroglucinol (TP) as monomers, a β-ketoenamine-linked covalent organic framework membrane (TPDPP) was fabricated via interface assembly. TPDPP was further loaded on ultrathin polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) using solvent evaporation, resulting in a high proportion of TPDPP functional components in the hybrid membrane (TPDPP@PDMS). This approach was highly feasible for the batch preparation of TPDPP@PDMS with a lamellar homogeneous structure and controllable layers. These TPDPP@PDMS membranes demonstrated outstanding enrichment performance for common antibiotics, particularly sulfonamide antibiotics, with extraction efficiencies 7.73–12.7 times higher than those of TPDPP fibers and 3.91–93.9 times higher than those of commercial fibers. The TPDPP@PDMS membranes reproducibly performed simultaneous SPME in a variety of environmental water samples, simplifying the pretreatment process and saving time. By integration of the membranes with liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry, an ultrasensitive method was established to achieve parallel extraction and highly efficient antibiotic quantification, demonstrating great potential for environmental pollutant monitoring.

We developed an on-site surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensor for rapid detection of difenoconazole (DIF) and flusilazole (FLU) in environmental water. The substrate combines gold nanostars (AuNSs) with covalent organic frameworks (COF) and is implemented on a portable round 20-well quartz plate, enabling in situ testing. After a simple filtration process, environmental water can be directly dripped onto the SERS-active AuNSs/COF composite, thereby simultaneously achieving the adsorption of the target compound and SERS detection. There is a good linear relationship between the SERS intensity of the characteristic peak and the logarithmic concentration of the analyte, with correlation coefficients (R 2 ) from 0.923 to 0.986, meeting the monitoring needs of non-laboratory scenarios. The entire workflow completes within 9 min, offering a faster alternative to conventional methods while maintaining high sensitivity and reproducibility. Detection limits reach 0.88–1.17 ppb for DIF and FLU. Distinct SERS fingerprints enable reliable discrimination of mixed pesticides across environmental water, supporting rapid on-site monitoring and cost-effective pesticide surveillance. Graphical

MXene-based aerogels are promising for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding due to their lightweight nature and high conductivity. However, their practical application is often hindered by severe impedance mismatch and excessive secondary reflection. To overcome this limitation, we developed a multifunctional ternary composite aerogel (MTCA) via a synergistic self-assembly strategy. In this architecture, TpPa-1 covalent organic framework (COF) was grown in situ and integrated with MXene nanosheets within a chitosan matrix. The resulting hierarchical porous structure significantly optimizes impedance matching. Consequently, the optimized MTCA achieves an EMI shielding efficiency of 39.93 dB in the X-band, operating via an absorption-dominated mechanism. This performance stems from enhanced interfacial polarization at the MXene/COF heterojunctions and prolonged microwave propagation paths facilitated by multiple scattering within the porous network. Furthermore, the aerogel exhibits multispectral stealth capabilities: it demonstrates low infrared emissivity (ε = 0.50), superior thermal insulation (surface temperature of 28.7 °C under an 80 °C heat source), and effective visual camouflage adaptable to environmental backgrounds. This work presents a robust strategy for designing advanced stealth materials that integrate efficient absorption-dominant EMI shielding with multispectral compatibility.

The efficacy of silane coupling agents in polymer nanocomposites is often restricted by limited reactive sites and insufficient physical engagement with the matrix. In this work, a multi-amino covalent organic framework-derived silane coupling agent (COF-SCA) was synthesized via a one-pot solvothermal method to engineer a stable filler–matrix interface. Unlike conventional small-molecule silanes, this macromolecular agent exhibits a porous, amino-rich framework. COF-SCA was applied to functionalize carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN). Structural analysis indicates the formation of a continuous, rough coating on the nanofillers. Mechanical testing shows enhanced load-bearing capability, with tensile strength increases of 23% (CNTs) and 22% (h-BN) compared to APTES-treated systems. This enhancement is attributed to synergistic effects from abundant amino groups and the rigid porous framework.

Conventional crystalline Ru-based catalysts often suffer from insufficient stability and limited active sites under acidic and alkaline conditions, hindering their practical application. To address these limitations, we designed an amorphous Ru catalyst supported on COF-derived nitrogen-doped carbon substrate (Ru x /NC). By strategically modulating the kinetic nucleation and thermodynamic aggregation behavior of Ru, we precisely engineered amorphous Ru nanoparticles with a size of approximately 3 nm, stabilizing Ru at the critical point of amorphous-to-crystalline transition. This unique structural configuration offers multiple catalytic advantages, including a high density of low-coordination active sites and an electronic structure that enables optimal hydrogen adsorption. Moreover, the isotropic nature of amorphous Ru enhances its resistance to corrosion and structural degradation. Benefiting from these merits and the synergistic effects with the NC framework, the optimized Ru 3nm /NC catalyst establishes a new benchmark for robust hydrogen evolution, demonstrating exceptionally low overpotentials, ultra-small Tafel slopes, and outstanding durability across the wide pH range, which offers valuable insights for the rational design of next-generation electrocatalysts.

Bacterial infections pose persistent threats to global public health, while the antimicrobial resistance caused by the overuse of antibiotics further exacerbates this problem. The development of novel disinfectants that are efficient, durable, broad-spectrum, and deploy non-antibiotic mechanisms is therefore highly desired. Multifunctional nanocomposites with multi-effect antibacterial properties can meet the above demands. Herein, we developed a core-shell nanocomposite of Au-Ag nano-urchins coated with room-temperature synthesized covalent organic frameworks for efficient morin loading and multi-scenario antibacterial applications. This material achieves exceptional bactericidal efficacy at ultralow doses by combining photothermal therapy, tip-mediated physical puncture, and the action of released antibacterial components. It achieves over 99.99% in-activation of both Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus at a low concentration of 8 µg mL −1 under weak xenon lamp illumination of 0.3 W cm −2 . The nanocomposites can be readily spray-coated onto various surfaces, forming a durable and stable antibacterial layer. Furthermore, in the in vivo infected wound healing model, the nanocomposite demonstrated excellent antibacterial efficacy and promoted nearly complete wound closure within 7 days. By integrating physical puncture, photothermal effect, and controlled drug/ion release, this nanocomposite offers an effective strategy for daily antibacterial applications.

Facilitated transport membranes based on poly(vinylamine) (PVAm) exhibit high CO 2 selectivity but suffer from limited stability and performance trade-offs under humid conditions. Herein, we report an ionic liquid (IL) incorporation strategy coupled with covalent organic framework (COF) regulation to spatially tailor transport pathways in PVAm membranes. The incorporation of COF-JLU2 contributes to CO 2 separation through its high adsorption affinity and its role in modulating gas transport pathways, while the IL enhances carrier-mediated CO 2 transport. This structural integration promotes CO 2 sorption and transport while suppressing non-selective gas permeation. As a result, the hybrid membrane achieves a CO 2 /N 2 selectivity exceeding 170 with improved permeance under humid conditions, outperforming conventional PVAm-based systems. The performance enhancement is attributed to the combined effects of COF incorporation and PVAm-IL interactions, although the individual contributions of different transport mechanisms are not quantitatively decoupled in this study. Process simulation further indicates the potential of the developed membranes for post-combustion CO 2 capture based on a preliminary techno-economic assessment. However, further validation with more detailed process models, as well as long-term stability and pilot-scale testing, will be necessary to fully evaluate industrial applicability.

To sensitively detect ochratoxin A (OTA), a CRISPR/Cas12a-assisted electrochemiluminescence (ECL) aptasensor based on COF@Ru coupled with a DNA tetrahedral scaffold (DTS) was successfully fabricated. The covalent organic framework (COF) acted as a confined micro-reactor for the tris(2,2′-bipyridyl)ruthenium(II)/tri-n-propylamine (Ru(bpy)32+/TPrA) system and hence, evidently enhanced ECL signals. Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) coupled with DTS caused more ferrocene (Fc)-modified quenching DNA probe molecules to be attached to the surface of the sensing electrode, which could reduce the detection background. Activated CRISPR/Cas12a could effectively amplify the ECL signal since it could cut off a considerable amount of quenching DNA probe molecules and make them move away from the electrode. Owing to these strategies, the fabricated ECL aptasensor could detect OTA as low as 3.5 fg mL−1 in a linear detection range of 10−5–100 ng mL−1. Furthermore, the CRISPR/Cas12a and COF@Ru coupled with DTS-based ECL biosensor possessed high stability and specificity. More importantly, the ECL biosensor could effectively detect OTA in food samples, indicating that it can play a role in monitoring OTA levels in the field of food safety.

Background In recent years, abnormal total zinc levels in serum have emerged as a robust indicator of anxiety disorder. However, measuring total zinc level requires sophisticated instrumentation and specialized personnel. Therefore, if the specific association between Zn 2+ in serum and anxiety disorder can be elucidated, it is promising to develop rapid and convenient diagnostic methods for anxiety disorder. In the field of Zn 2+ detection, Electrochemical detection has been investigated as a means to quantify Zn 2+ with precision, rapidity and cost-effectiveness. Nevertheless, most current electrochemical systems lack specificity. Results In this study, the relationship between anxiety disorder and serum Zn 2+ level was first elucidated, with research finding indicating that anxiety in mice correlated with a marked decline in serum Zn 2+ level. Subsequently, a sensitive and specific electrochemical sensor was developed to detect Zn 2+ with outstanding detection performance for the diagnosis of anxiety disorder. In this sensor, covalent organic framework material (COF Tp-Th ) was utilized to load a substantial amount of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) via Au–N bonds to obtain COF Tp-Th -AuNPs material. AuNPs can enhance electrode catalysis and conductivity and served as a platform for subsequent material integration. Furthermore, a large quantity of Zincon reagent for specific recognition and detection of Zn 2+ was loaded onto the AuNPs through Au–S and Au–N bonds to improve electrode specificity, resulting in the construction of the target electrode modified material of COF Tp-Th -AuNPs-Zincon. Significance Long-range ordered COF Tp-Th can adsorb Zn 2+ through its rich tetradentate coordination ONNO chelation sites formed by Tp and Th, representing the primary signal amplification. Simultaneously, the abundant Zincon in COF Tp-Th -AuNPs-Zincon material with high affinity for the specific recognition and detection of Zn 2+ contributed to secondary signal amplification. This approach leads to a significant improvement in the detection performance of Zn 2+ and holds promise for providing robust support for the diagnosis and monitoring of anxiety disorder.

Developing mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) is challenging because the interface between different matrices often forms undesirable structures. Herein, we demonstrate a method of creating suitable CO2-selective channels based on interface regulation that greatly enhances membrane separation performance. The poly(vinylamine), which also acts as a polymer matrix, was immobilized onto covalent organic frameworks (COFs) to obtain polymer–COF hybrid materials (COFp). The COFp and polymer matrix are highly compatible because they have the same segment. The polymer matrix was induced to penetrate the oversized COFp, resulting in an amino-environmental pore wall and appropriately sized CO2-selective channels dispersed in MMMs. The MMMs exhibited satisfactory membrane performance for CO2/N2, CO2/CH4, and CO2/H2 separation. A CO2 transport model for preferential adsorption and transport is clearly presented for the first time. The membrane separation mechanism is also discussed. This work demonstrates potential applications for material, interface, and membrane investigations.

Electrocatalytic water splitting, consisting of anodic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and cathodic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), represents a promising renewable energy technology for producing ultra-high purity hydrogen through efficient energy conversion and storage. However, the practical implementation of this technology in alkaline environments is hindered by the sluggish kinetics of both HER and OER, which significantly limit water splitting efficiency. The development of highly active and stable alkaline HER/OER electrocatalysts is urgently needed yet remains challenging. In this work, we synthesized a novel two-dimensional (2D) highly conjugated COF/MOF composite (COF-C4N/THQ-M) through a post-synthesis method. This method enables controlled growth of part of COF-C4N at the edges of THQ-M MOF to prevent structural disintegration of THQ-M, consequently to enhance surface charge transfer efficiency and further to improve catalytic activity and stability. By regulating metal sites, COF-C4N/THQ-Co and COF-C4N/THQ-Co2Fe1 are proposed to be optimal alkaline HER electrocatalysts with an overpotential of 58 mV at -10 mA cm -2 and alkaline OER electrocatalyst with 314 mV at 10 mA cm -2 , respectively, superior to most of the reported non-precious metals electrocatalysts. The charge transfer characteristics and the pathways of alkaline HER and OER were calculated based on DFT calculations to reveal the synergistic mechanism of COF-C4N and THQ-M. This work provides a novel idea for developing highperformance bifunctional electrocatalysts for alkaline water splitting applications based on hybrid highly conjugated COF/MOF systems.
