Graphitic Carbon Nitride Microspheres Supported α-FeO(OH) Hybrids for Visible Light Photodegradation of MO

Wang Junlin,Yi Yongjie,Li Mengjia,Chang Yue,Zha Fei

Graphitic carbon nitride(g-C 3 N 4 ) microspheres supported α-FeO(OH) hybrids[α-FeO(OH)/g-C 3 N 4 ] were prepared by means of a self-assembly method in deionized water. By UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, it has been confirmed that α-FeO(OH)/g-C 3 N 4 has a wider absorption range than g-C 3 N 4 . The feature of α-FeO(OH)/g-C 3 N 4 can be attributed to the efficient separation of the electron-hole pairs with photoluminescence spectra. The degradation rate of methyl orange(MO) is up to 99% under the optimal conditions of 110 min, initial concentration of 30 mg/L, an α-FeO(OH)/g-C 3 N 4 dosage of 15 mg as well as visible light. The mechanism for this photocatalytic reaction was proposed, with hydroxyl radicals being a major active catalytic species.

Enhanced peroxidase-like activity of Mo-doped ceria nanoparticles for sensitive colorimetric detection of glucose

Xue Jiao,Wanyi Liu,Di Wu,Wenhao Liu,Hongjie Song

The development of highly efficient nanomaterial-based mimetic enzymes is much needed to replace natural enzymes due to their low cost, high stability and efficient catalytic ability. Herein, multiple Mo-doped CeO2 nanoparticles (Mo/CeO2 NPs) with different molar ratios of Mo were synthesized using a facile microwave-assisted method. For characterizing the as-prepared Mo/CeO2 NPs, XRD, TEM, HRTEM, BET and XPS have been performed systematically. The peroxidase-like activity of Mo/CeO2 NPs was investigated, and they exhibited enhanced peroxidase-like activity in comparison to that of pure CeO2 NPs, the best peroxidase-like activity was obtained for the Mo/CeO2 NPs when the molar ratio of Mo was 9%. On the basis of the high activity of Mo/CeO2 NPs, the reaction provides a simple, sensitive and selective method for colorimetric detection of glucose with the detection limit of 4 × 10−7 mol L−1 and in a dynamic range from 5 × 10−7 to 5 × 10−5 mol L−1. This work will pave a way for high throughput synthesis of other ultra-small doped metal oxide nanoparticles, which have bright prospects in biomedical analysis.

New insights into high-valence state Mo in molybdenum carbide nanobelts for hydrogen evolution reaction

Pan Wang,Ji Qi,Xiaozhen Chen,Chuang Li,Tonghua Wang,Changhai Liang

Hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is considered to be one of the most promising strategies to create hydrogen. Recently, searching high-efficient, stable, and earth-abundant electrocatalysts to replace precious metals for practical utilizations of HER is attracting more and more attentions. Herein, novel molybdenum carbide nanobelts containing Mo of high-valence state derived from MoO 3 -ethylenediamine inorganic/organic hybrid precursors are successfully synthesized via a facile one-pot pyrolysis method. The molybdenum carbide nanobelts are characterized using XRD , SEM, TEM and XPS . Moreover, the high-valence state Mo and their relative content in the molybdenum carbide nanobelts can be identified by XPS. The high-resolution XPS spectra of Mo 3d indicates in the molybdenum carbide nanobelts the proportion of high-valence state Mo in active Mo components is 51.3%. More importantly, the as-synthesized products exhibit excellent electrocatalytic activity for HER with a low onset overpotential of 50 mV and a small Tafel slope of 49.6 mV dec −1 in acidic medium (0.5 M H 2 SO 4 ). Besides, the catalysts require only overpotentials of 143 and 234 mV to achieve current densities of 10 and 220 mA cm −2 , respectively. Furthermore, they also exhibit good durability after 2000 cycles and constant current density test. Such excellent electrocatalytic HER performance can be ascribed to the high intrinsic activity of high-valence state Mo in Molybdenum Carbide. Synthesizing molybdenum carbide with high-valence state Mo electrocatalysts for HER will open up an exciting alternative avenue to acquire outstanding HER electrocatalytic activity.

CdS–MoS2 heterostructures on Mo substrates via in situ sulfurization for efficient photoelectrochemical hydrogen generation

Xianglin Zhu,Peng Wang,Qianqian Zhang,Zeyan Wang,Yuanyuan Liu,Xiaoyan Qin,Xiaoyang Zhang,Ying Dai,Baibiao Huang

A CdS–MoS2 photoelectrode with a double-layer core–shell structure was prepared using a simple electrodeposition–in situ sulfurization method on a Mo substrate. The photocatalytic activity of as-prepared electrodes was evaluated using a photoelectrochemical H2-generation experiment. The photocurrent and photon–electron conversion efficiency of the CdS–MoS2 photoelectrode were nearly double those of a CdS photoanode prepared on FTO glass. The high activity of the CdS–MoS2 photoelectrode was due to the higher separation efficiency of carriers caused by the formed CdS–MoS2 Janus heterojunction structure, which made directional transmission and electron–hole separation possible. Our experiments show that, in addition to being a good co-catalyst in powder material for photocatalytic hydrogen production, MoS2 can also be used as an electron acceptor layer to enhance electron–hole separation.

Tailoring Mo(S,Se)2 structure for high efficient Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4 solar cells

Shoushuai Gao,Yi Zhang,Jianping Ao,Shuping Lin,Zhaojing Zhang,Xiuling Li,Dongxiao Wang,Zhiqiang Zhou,Guozhong Sun,Fangfang Liu,Yun Sun

The direction of Se-Mo-Se sheets to the Mo film is crucial for the thickness of Mo(S,Se) 2 and the electrical conductivity , so as the back contact of Cu 2 ZnSn(S,Se) 4 solar cells. In this study, the preferred orientation of Mo(S,Se) 2 film changes from (100) peak to (103) peak, i.e. from perpendicular to the substrate to tilted to the substrate for Se-Mo-Se sheets as the roughness decrease of Mo back contact layer. The Se vapor can easily diffuse through the channels between Se-Mo-Se sheets when the formed Mo(S,Se) 2 layer is (100) peak preferred with Se-Mo-Se sheets perpendicular to the substrate, and thus excessively thick Mo(S,Se) 2 will be formed. Whereas, the Se-Mo-Se sheets are tilted to substrate when the preferred orientation of Mo(S,Se) 2 is (103) peak. The tilted Se-Mo-Se sheets can act as a natural Se diffusion barrier to suppress the Se vapor diffusion through the already formed Mo(S,Se) 2 layer to further selenize the remaining Mo film, and also can provide a good electrical conductivity. As a result, the thickness of Mo(S,Se) 2 sharply decreased from 1500   nm to 200   nm with the surface morphology change of Mo back contact, which resulting in the decrease of series resistance of Cu 2 ZnSn(S,Se) 4 solar cells from 2.94   Ω   cm 2 to 0.49   Ω   cm 2 , and the increase of conversion efficiency of Cu 2 ZnSn(S,Se) 4 solar cells from 6.98% to 9.04%.

Processing and microstructure characterization of SiCp/Hastelloy(Ni–Mo–Cr) composites prepared by pressureless infiltration

Qian Qi,Yan Liu,Hui Zhang,Yinsheng Li,Hanqin Liang,Zhengren Huang

SiC p /Hastelloy composites were fabricated by pressureless Ti-activated infiltration process. The wetting and infiltration behaviors of Hastelloy on the SiC substrates and the interfacial reaction between the SiC particles and Hastelloy were investigated by real-time observation system, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) equipped with energy X-ray dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) system. The results demonstrated that the Hastelloy had a good wettability on SiC ceramic and could spontaneously infiltrate into the Ti-activated SiC preform. Moreover, intensive interfacial reaction similar to SiC/Ni system was found between the SiC particles and Hastelloy, which induced defects in the microstructure. In order to inhibit the interfacial reaction, Al 2 O 3 coating on SiC particles was adopted as a diffusion barrier, which effectively reduced the extent of the interfacial reactions.

Aerobic oxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural into furan compounds over Mo-hydroxyapatite-encapsulated magnetic γ-Fe2O3

Shuguo Wang,Bing Liu,Ziliang Yuan,Zehui Zhang

In this study, magnetic γ-Fe 2 O 3 @ HAP-Mo catalyst was successfully prepared and characterized. The activity of the as prepared γ-Fe 2 O 3 @ HAP-Mo catalyst was evaluated by the oxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) with molecular oxygen. Some important reaction parameters were investigated and it was found that both the solvent and the reaction temperature showed great effect on HMF conversion and products selectivity. The highest HMF conversion of 95.8% was obtained in 4-chlorotoluene at the reaction temperature of 120 °C for 12 h, and the corresponding 2,5-diformylfuran, 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid and 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furancarboxylic acid yields were 67.5, 19.6 and 8.7%, respectively. The γ-Fe 2 O 3 @ HAP-Mo catalyst could be easily separated from the reaction mixture and reused several times without the loss of its catalytic activity.

Activated Carbon Supported Mo-Ti-N Binary Transition Metal Nitride as Catalyst for Acetylene Hydrochlorination

Hui Dai,Mingyuan Zhu,Haiyang Zhang,Feng Yu,Chao Wang,Bin Dai

Recently, many scientists have focused on the development of green industrial technology. However, the process of synthesizing vinyl chloride faces the problem of Hg pollution. Via a novel approach, we used two elements Mo and Ti to prepare an inexpensive and green binary transition metal nitride (BTMN) as the active ingredient in a catalyst with nano-sized particles and an excellent degree of activation, which was supported on activated carbon. When the Mo/Ti mole ratio was 3:1, the conversion of acetylene reached 89% and the selectivity exceeded 98.5%. The doping of Ti in Mo-based catalysts reduced the capacity of adsorption for acetylene and also increased the adsorption of hydrogen chloride. Most importantly, the performance of the BTMN excelled those of the individual transition metal nitrides, due to the synergistic activity between Mo and Ti. This will expand the new epoch of the employment of transition metal nitrides as catalysts in the hydrochlorination of acetylene reaction. Keywords:binary transition metal nitride;acetylene hydrochlorination

Enhancement of strength-ductility synergy of in situ synthesized graphene/Ni composite via Mo microalloying

Ying Liu,Sen Zhang,Yupeng Yao,Leilei Fan,Jian Wang,Yanxia Wu,Lin Jing,Peide Han,Caili Zhang

The ideal mechanical performances of in-situ synthesized graphene/Ni composite have not been obtained due to the weak interfacial bonding. To realize the high strengthening efficiency of graphene, this paper proposed a Mo microalloying strategy. The influences of Mo concentration on the microstructures, interfacial bonding characteristics, and quasi-static tensile behavior of the composite were investigated. The results showed an appropriate Mo concentration (0.2 wt%) not only enabled a strong interfacial bonding but also reduced the stacking fault energy of the Ni matrix, generating the twinning and further altering the strength and plasticity. The yield and tensile strength of the composite were increased by 215.3 % and 20.3 %, respectively, but no significant reduction in plasticity was observed. The strengthening of the composite was ascribed to the effective load transfer, twinning, and dislocation strengthening, whereas the critical role of large-area graphene nanosheets and deformation twinning in suppressing the crack propagation ensured a high toughness.

Effect of Pore Structure on the Performance of Mo-Ni Catalysts for Petroleum Resin Hydrogenation

Niu Tong,Shi Zhengyang,Sun Jinchang,Zhang Qianwen

The modification of petroleum resin (PR) by catalytic hydrogenation is an upgrading technology for producing high-value-added hydrogenated petroleum resin (HPR) from of pyrolysis petroleum by-product. This research employed alumina supports with different pore size distributions to prepare supported Mo-Ni type catalysts and investigated their catalytic hydrogenation performance on C 9 petroleum resin. Catalysts prepared with bimodal pore alumina (BPA) supports effectively overcome the limitations of internal diffusion and increase the quantity of active sites, thus increasing the catalytic activity for hydrogenation. The experimental results demonstrated that MoNi/BPA achieved a hydrogenation degree of 99.94% for HC 9 PR, with the hydrogenated product having a Pt–Co colour of 2.37 Hazen. After 140 h of reaction, the hydrogenation degree of HC 9 PR remained at 96.51%, and the Pt–Co colour value was lower than 40 Hazen. This investigation confirms that solving the mass transfer issues of petroleum resin molecules in the pores of supported catalysts is key to designing efficient hydrogenation catalysts for petroleum resin. Damage caused by He and D plasma exposure in Mo/Zr-added W-Y2O3 composites

X.L. Ren,G. Yao,L.M. Luo,Y. Xu,A. Yabuuchi,Q. Xu

In the present study, we developed Mo- and Zr-added W-Y2O3 composites, and investigated their surface damage, including commercially available W induced by He and D as well as He and D mixture plasmas. Blistering was not observed in the D-plasma-irradiated W and W composites. The thickness of the damaged surface layer due to He plasma exposure of the W-Mo-Y2O3 composite was similar to that of W. However, the thickness of the damaged surface layer of the W-Y2O3 composite was half that of W. In addition, the thickness of the damaged surface layer of the W-Zr-Y2O3 composite was further improved by 5 times. Y2O3 nanoparticles, especially refined Zr-Y-O nanoparticles, act as He trap sites to suppress the formation and growth of He bubbles. Furthermore, the W-O-Y and W-O-Zr-Y nanoparticles increased the solubility of He and delayed He diffusion, hindering the formation of He bubbles.

Highly efficient recycling of polyester wastes to diols using Ru and Mo dual-atom catalyst

Tang Minhao,Shen Ji,Wang Yiding,Zhao Yanfei,Gan Tao,Zheng Xusheng,Wang Dingsheng,Han Buxing,Liu Zhimin

The chemical recycling of polyester wastes is of great significance for sustainable development, which also provides an opportunity to access various oxygen-containing chemicals, but generally suffers from low efficiency or separation difficulty. Herein, we report anatase TiO 2 supported Ru and Mo dual-atom catalysts, which achieve transformation of various polyesters into corresponding diols in 100% selectivity via hydrolysis and subsequent hydrogenation in water under mild conditions (e.g., 160 °C, 4 MPa). Compelling evidence is provided for the coexistence of Ru single-atom and O-bridged Ru and Mo dual-atom sites within this kind of catalysts. It is verified that the Ru single-atom sites activate H 2 for hydrogenation of carboxylic acid derived from polyester hydrolysis, and the O-bridged Ru and Mo dual-atom sites suppress hydrodeoxygenation of the resultant alcohols due to a high reaction energy barrier. Notably, this kind of dual-atom catalysts can be regenerated with high activity and stability. This work presents an effective way to reconstruct polyester wastes into valuable diols, which may have promising application potential.
