High-performance flexible thermoelectric materials face a persistent challenge in decoupling the interdependent thermoelectric parameters. Here, we present a composite thermoelectric fiber that addresses this limitation by combining poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) with eutectic gallium–indium (EGaIn) nanoparticles. Through a solution-processable fabrication approach incorporating surface-initiated polymerization, we achieved uniform dispersion of EGaIn nanoparticles within the PEDOT:PSS matrix. The optimized composite fiber has an electrical conductivity of 1839.4 S cm–1 and a Seebeck coefficient of 118.7 μV K–1, representing 5-fold and 13-fold improvements over pristine PEDOT:PSS fiber, respectively. Energy filtering effects at PEDOT:PSS/EGaIn interfaces enable selective charge carrier transport while maintaining a low thermal conductivity through interfacial phonon scattering. The resulting power factor reaches 22.9 μW cm–1 K–2 with a dimensionless figure of merit (zT) of 1.21 at room temperature. The fibers exhibit a maximum strain of 30.9% and stable performance under mechanical, washing, and thermal cycling. We showcase their practical utility in self-powered wearable sensors for temperature, touch, and physiological monitoring. This work presents a strategic approach for organic/inorganic composite thermoelectric materials centered on the energy filtering effect.

Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) is a highly promising electrochromic material for intelligent thermal management due to its intrinsic high conductivity, which enables electro-emissive modulation without additional conductive electrodes. However, practical applications are hindered by incomplete reduction of PEDOT during electrochemical cycling, leading to suboptimal emissivity modulation. Moreover, its monotonic color change in the visible spectrum constrains its functional versatility. To overcome these constraints, we introduce an innovative doping strategy utilizing single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs), which form a percolating conductive network and enhance charge transfer via π-π interaction-enabled electron delocalization. This synergistic effect promotes more complete reduction of PEDOT, leading to significantly enhanced modulation of thermal emissivity. Furthermore, through the incorporation of functional dyes, we expand the visible color adaptability of the films, achieving reversible transitions between yellow-green and green states. The resulting PEDOT:PSS/SWCNT-based electrochromic devices demonstrate remarkable performance: an emissivity modulation (∆ε) of 0.27 in the 3–5 μm band and 0.35 in the 8–14 μm atmospheric window, rapid switching (2.7 s for both bleaching and coloring), and excellent mechanical and cycling stability. Notably, by implementing an auxiliary silver grid electrode, we successfully scaled the device to 15 × 15 cm 2 , demonstrating a viable route toward large-area applications. This work provides a scalable pathway to high-performance PEDOT-based electrochromic materials and devices, highlighting their potential in advanced thermal management applications.

Flexible sensing devices have attracted substantial attention due to their unique advantages and have become indispensable components in emerging applications, such as wearable technology, health monitoring, and intelligent systems. The development of multifunctional materials has been identified as a critical driver for the advancement of next-generation flexible sensors. This work presents a multifunctional hydrogel based on poly(acrylamide)-poly(2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propanesulfonic acid)/ionic liquid-functionalized carbon nanotubes/poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene): poly(styrenesulfonate), (PAAM–PAAMPSA/CNTs-IL/PEDOT:PSS), denoted as PPC, which demonstrates a dual sensing modality. When applied as an electrochemical lactate sensor, PPC exhibits high sensitivity with a low detection limit of 0.34 μM and excellent linearity (R2 = 0.9967) across the concentration range of 1–30 mM in phosphate buffer solution. Furthermore, its electrochemical performance is minimally affected by mechanical deformation, confirming that the interference from incidental strain is negligible. The hydrogel also functions effectively as a strain sensor, demonstrating excellent sensitivity (gauge factor = 1.44) and fast response (550 ms), and consistent performance over 1000 cycles at 100% strain. In summary, the PPC hydrogel developed in this study has the dual functions of sweat lactic acid sensing and stable strain monitoring, making it a promising material in the field of multifunctional wearable devices.

Adaptive bioelectronics that autonomously adjust to environmental changes represent an emerging paradigm, enabling reliable operation across diverse conditions. Hypoxic microenvironments are prevalent across numerous pathological conditions including chronic wounds, tumors, and ischemic tissues, creating a fundamental challenge: oxygen-dependent enzymatic biosensors fail precisely when monitoring is most critical, while oxygen deficiency simultaneously impairs tissue regeneration. We present a soft wireless Hypoxia-Adaptive Sensing and Therapeutic (HAST) system that maintains reliable biosensing functionality in oxygen-deficient environments through integrated oxygen management. Using engineered poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS)/polydopamine (PDA)/enzyme biocomposites, HAST integrates multiplexed biosensing (glucose, uric acid, lactate) with dual-oxygen provision: wound exudate-triggered dissolved oxygen generation restores biosensor functionality while electrical stimulation promotes vascular regeneration for sustained tissue oxygenation. This hypoxia-adaptive design achieves about 10-fold biosensor sensitivity enhancement under oxygen-deficient conditions while promoting tissue repair. In preclinical diabetic wound models, HAST enabled accurate continuous monitoring with ∼30% accelerated wound closure, demonstrating environment-adaptive bioelectronics for precision medicine in oxygen-deficient pathological conditions.

Dual-network design with ion-electron conduction balances mechanical and electrical performance. • High tensile strength, toughness, and conductivity ensure stable sensing foundation. • Rapid photoinitiated fabrication enables efficient and scalable hydrogel preparation. • Long-term stable sensing performance sustained over 1000 stretching cycles. • Broad detection ranges from large joint movements to subtle facial expressions. Achieving mechanically robust yet highly conductive hydrogels remains a central challenge for skin-interfaced wearable sensors, as network reinforcement often compromises charge transport and long-term sensing stability. Here, we report a coordination-Hofmeister dual-network engineering strategy for constructing a chitosan/PAA/PEDOT:PSS conductive hydrogel that integrates high mechanical strength, efficient charge transport, and environmental adaptability. A primary hybrid network (PECA) is formed in an ethylene glycol/water medium through one-pot photoinitiated polymerization, simultaneously establishing covalently crosslinked PAA chains, Al 3+ -mediated coordination between PAA and the PSS component of PEDOT:PSS, together with electrostatic interactions involving chitosan, and a homogeneously distributed conductive polymer phase. Subsequent ammonium-sulfate-induced Hofmeister salting-out promotes polymer-chain dehydration and entanglement, generating a compact secondary physical network and yielding a double-network hydrogel (DECA). The optimized DECA hydrogel achieves a tensile strength of 1.74 MPa, toughness of 6.69 MJ m −3 , and conductivity of 6.52 S/m, corresponding to 6.9-, 5.0-, and 81-fold enhancements over the pristine hydrogel, respectively. Benefiting from reversible coordination/hydrogen-bonding interactions and stable electronic-ionic conductive pathways, the hydrogel sensor maintains reproducible resistance responses after 1000 stretching cycles. When mounted on human skin, the DECA sensor enables real-time monitoring of multi-scale physiological motions, from large joint movements to subtle facial expressions. This work provides a facile strategy for resolving the mechanical-electrical trade-off in conductive hydrogels and advances their application in durable wearable electronics. An Al 3+ coordination and Hofmeister salting-out strategy is used to engineer chitosan/PAA/PEDOT:PSS double-network conductive hydrogels. The coordinated and sulfate-reinforced network simultaneously improves tensile strength, toughness, conductivity, and cyclic sensing stability, enabling skin-mounted strain sensors for real-time monitoring of joint motion and subtle facial expressions. In this study, an aerosol-jet-printed silver micropillar array was introduced onto the surface of a screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE) and further coated with a poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene): poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) functional film, yielding a three-dimensional hierarchical electrode for high-performance electrochemical detection of niclosamide (NA). The silver micropillar arrays form a three-dimensional microelectrode network on the working electrode surface, where the pillar tops and sidewalls markedly increase the electrochemically active area and facilitate mass transport toward the electrode interface, thereby enhancing analyte flux and amplifying the Faradaic response. In addition, PEDOT:PSS as a mixed ionic-electronic conductor, establishes a continuous and stable reaction interface on the silver-pillar scaffold, which not only improves interfacial wettability and charge/ion transport but also promotes interfacial enrichment of NA via its functionalized polymer network. Benefiting from the synergistic effects of three-dimensional structural amplification and conductive-polymer-mediated interfacial regulation, the fabricated Ag@PEDOT:PSS/SPCE sensor exhibits a good linear response over 0.01–15 μM with a limit of detection as low as 1.73 nM. Meanwhile, the sensor demonstrates excellent repeatability, reproducibility, and anti-interference performance, and it was successfully applied to the quantitative determination of NA in tap water and oolong tea samples with satisfactory recoveries and accuracy, indicating strong potential for practical applications.

Insufficient hole injection remains a critical bottleneck hindering the commercialization of blue quantum dot light-emitting diodes (QLEDs), making the optimization of hole transport behavior highly significant. Herein, (2-(9 H -carbazol-9-yl)ethyl)phosphonic acid (2PACz) is incorporated into poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS) to construct a composite hole injection layer (HIL). Within this composite layer, a portion of 2PACz anchors onto the ITO surface, while a portion engages in π – π interactions with hole transport layer (HTL) poly(9-vinylcarbazole), giving rise to a synergistic dual-interface modification effect that substantially enhances interfacial hole injection and transport. The overall hole mobility of the HIL/HTL stack increases markedly from 2.15 × 10 −7 to 7.84 × 10 −6 cm 2 V −1 s −1 . Meanwhile, the introduction of 2PACz raises the electrical conductivity of the HIL from 2.51 × 10 −4 to 5.35 × 10 −4 mS cm −1 and deepens its HOMO level from −5.15 to −5.48 eV, thereby further facilitating hole injection into the HTL. Consequently, deep-blue QLEDs employing this composite HIL achieve a remarkable maximum luminance of 11,185.50 cd m −2 , a high external quantum efficiency of 22.61% with a CIE y coordinate of 0.0305, and an extended lifetime of 793.19 h ( T 50 @100 cd m −2 ), representing a significant improvement in optoelectronic performance.

A ternary nanocomposite, PEDOT:PSS/UiO-66-Cl@Ru, was successfully synthesized via a one-pot hydrothermal strategy for the ultrasensitive electrochemical detection of amaranth (AM) and Allura Red (AR). The conceptual advance of this work lies in the synergistic integration of halogen-induced intrinsic electroactivity, maximal atomic utilization of single-atom Ru, and the conductive bridging effect of PEDOT:PSS. This ternary design effectively overcomes the conductivity bottleneck of MOFs while delivering exceptional catalytic site density and enhanced interfacial stability. The resulting PEDOT:PSS/UiO-66-Cl@Ru platform delivered remarkable analytical performance, featuring wide linear ranges of 0.05–140 µM for AM and 0.07–50 µM for AR. The low limits of detection were 16.6 nM and 23.3 nM, with high sensitivities of 0.179 µA µM⁻¹ cm⁻² and 0.247 µA µM⁻¹ cm⁻² for AM and AR, respectively. Furthermore, the proposed sensor demonstrated excellent selectivity, reproducibility, and stability. Finally, the successful application of PEDOT:PSS/UiO-66-Cl@Ru in detecting AM and AR within beverage samples validates its practical utility for on-site food safety screening.

Paper-based thermoelectric (PTE) generators have recently emerged as a green technology that can help alleviate environment pollution and the energy crisis. In this work, a PTE generator was prepared by coating a post-treatment-free thermoelectric ink consisting of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)/polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS) doped with 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium:tricyanomethanide (EMIM:TCM) onto the card paper. By tuning the molar concentration of the EMIM:TCM to 0.17 M and with hot-pressing, the PTE generator showed a decent power factor (PF) value of 6.82 μW m−1K−2, which was higher than the values of PTE in the literature. This phenomenon could be attributed to the synergistic effect of high-performance thermoelectric ink (i.e., PF = 175 μW m−1K−2when deposited on glass slide) and the hot-pressing. The hot-pressing enhanced the packing density of cellulose fibers and the associated PEDOT:PSS hybrid, which enabled the formation of long-range conductive paths. In addition, the PTE had good mechanical stability, indicated by no significant change of the power factor values after cyclic folding 10,000 times. Moreover, the structure of as-prepared PTE could be easily tuned into different shapes that are promising for the preparation of flexible wearable thermoelectric generators.Keywords:paper-based thermoelectric;PEDOT:PSS;hierarchical structure;mechanical stability

The typical conductive polymer of PEDOT:PSS has recently attracted intensive attention in thermoelectric conversion because of its low cost and low thermal conductivity as well as high electrical conductivity. However, compared to inorganic counterparts, the relatively poor thermoelectric performance of PEDOT:PSS has greatly limited its development and high-tech applications. Here, we report a dramatic enhancement in the thermoelectric performance of PEDOT:PSS by constructing unique composite films with graphene quantum dots (GQDs). At room temperature, the electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficient of PEDOT:PSS/GQDs reached to 7172 S/m and 14.6 μV/K, respectively, which are 30.99% and 113.2% higher than those of pristine PEDOT:PSS. As a result, the power factor of the optimized PEDOT:PSS/GQDs composite is 550% higher than that of pristine PEDOT:PSS. These significant improvements are attributed to the ordered alignment of PEDOT chains on the surface of GQDs, originated from the strong interfacial interaction between PEDOT:PSS and GQDs and the separation of PEDOT and PSS phases. This study evidently provides a promising route for PEDOT:PSS applied in high-efficiency thermoelectric conversion.

Organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs), especially the ones with high transconductance, are highly promising in sensitive detection of chemical and biological species. However, it is still a great challenge to design and fabricate OECTs with very high transconductance. Herein, an OECT with ultrahigh transconductance is reported by introducing ionic liquid and dodecylbenzenesulfonate (DBSA) simultaneously in poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene): polystyrenesulfonate (PEDOT:PSS) as the semiconductive channel. Compared with the OECT based on pristine PEDOT:PSS, the OECT based on co-doped PEDOT:PSS demonstrates a significant enhancement of transconductance from 1.85 to 22.7 mS, because of the increase in volumetric capacitance and conductivity. The enhanced transconductance is attributed to the DBSA-facilitated phase separation between the ionic liquid and PEDOT:PSS, which helps to form conductive domains of ionic liquid in PEDOT:PSS matrix, and the partial dispersion of ionic liquid in the PEDOT:PSS phase. Furthermore, by using the interdigitated electrodes as the source and drain electrodes, an ultrahigh transconductance of 180 mS is obtained, which is superior to that of the state-of-the-art OECTs. Because of the ultrahigh transconductance, the obtained OECT demonstrates sensitive detection of hydrogen peroxide and glucose, making it promising in clinical diagnosis, health monitoring, and environmental surveillance.
