The surface microstructure of biomimetic Procambarus clarkia claw was prepared on the surface of GCr15 steel, then PTFE solid lubricants dispersed with three different hardness nanoparticles (C, ZnO, Al 2 O 3 ) were filled in. The results of the tribological experiment show the textured surface lubricated by PTFE with Al 2 O 3 nanoparticles reflected the best performances. Because PTFE stored by the bionic texture could be supplied to the friction surface to form a solid lubrication film. Due to the addition of Al 2 O 3 nanoparticles, the hardness and wear resistance of the film are improved, thus avoiding a large loss of PTFE. And the process of "rolling-embedding PTFE surface-exposing-rolling" occurs. As a final, the surface tribological properties of GCr15 steel can be significantly improved.

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is considered robust membrane material in membrane processes especially under harsh environment. It is vital to realize the regulation and control of the pore size during manufacture process of PTFE membrane, because it directly affects the separation accuracy and permeability. Herein, we feasibly enhanced the controllability of the pore structures by tailoring the electrospinning/electrospraying process and calendaring conditions to design PTFE membranes with high separation accuracy. This strategy avoided the use of organic solvents or lubricants during preparation process, thus showing environmental-friendly advantages. The results showed that the membrane pore structure could be evolved from interwoven fiber network to three-dimensional bicontinuous structure by increasing the amount of PTFE in spinning solution. Moreover, the pore size could be controlled by improving the fusion degree of PTFE nanostructures via adjusting calendaring pressure. Meanwhile, the PTFE membranes presented selective sequential separation property of silica nanoparticles with diameters from 12 nm to 1000 nm. The PTFE membranes manufactured with controllable pore size and structure by this strategy could provide a promising alternative for energy-efficient and high-accurate particle screening, solution recovery, and grading separation.

A silicon dioxide/polytetrafluoroethylene/polyethyleneimine/polyphenylene sulfide (SiO2/PTFE/PEI/PPS) composite filter medium with three-dimensional network structures was fabricated by using PPS nonwoven as the substrate which was widely employed as a cleanable filter medium. The PTFE/PEI bilayers were firstly coated on the surfaces of the PPS fibers through the layer-by-layer self-assembly technique ten times, followed by the deposition of SiO2nanoparticles, yielding the SiO2/(PTFE/PEI)10/PPS composite material. The contents of the PTFE component were easily controlled by adjusting the number of self-assembled PTFE/PEI bilayers. As compared with the pure PPS nonwoven, the obtained SiO2/(PTFE/PEI)10/PPS composite material exhibits better mechanical properties and enhanced wear, oxidation and heat resistance. When employed as a filter material, the SiO2/(PTFE/PEI)10/PPS composite filter medium exhibited excellent filtration performance for fine particulate. The PM2.5 (particulate matter less than 2.5 μm) filtration efficiency reached up to 99.55%. The superior filtration efficiency possessed by the SiO2/(PTFE/PEI)10/PPS composite filter medium was due to the uniformly modified PTFE layers, which played a dual role in fine particulate filtration. On the one hand, the PTFE layers not only increase the specific surface area and pore volume of the composite filter material but also narrow the spaces between the fibers, which were conducive to forming the dust cake quickly, resulting in intercepting the fine particles more efficiently than the pure PPS filter medium. On the other hand, the PTFE layers have low surface energy, which is in favor of the detachment of dust cake during pulse-jet cleaning, showing superior reusability. Thanks to the three-dimensional network structures of the SiO2/(PTFE/PEI)10/PPS composite filter medium, the pressure drop during filtration was low. Keywords:polytetrafluoroethylene;polyphenylene sulfide;filter medium;PM2.5;layer-by-layer self-assembly

Nafion-PTFE hollow fiber composite membranes were fabricated and applied in vacuum membrane distillation (VMD) process to improve the anti-fouling and anti-wetting performance in the presence of oil and surfactant . The composite membrane exhibited an underwater super-oilphobic property according to the contact angle test. The VMD performance when treating saline feed containing 3.5 wt% NaCl and 1000 ppm mineral oil for the composite membrane behaved a stable flux for 40 h. In construct, an immediate and sharply-declined flux was observed for the pristine PTFE , indicating the significant improvement in the anti-fouling property. Meanwhile, the composite membrane also alleviated the wetting phenomena caused by the surfactant comparing with the pristine PTFE membrane, and the Nafion-PTFE composite membrane behaves a stable flux and high salt rejection higher than 99.99% for 60 h treating saline feed containing O/W emulsions. The pressure depression effect of the Nafion layer on the mass transfer was analyzed. It was found that the depression could be reduced with the increasing of the feed temperature and the enhancement of the corresponding effective pore diameter of the Nafion layer, that the pressure depression factor decreased from 0.23 to 0.04 with the feed temperature increasing from 60 °C to 75 °C.

Novel poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE) membranes with regular geometric pore structure were fabricated via near-field electrospinning (NFES) method. Firstly, computer aided design (CAD) was utilized to design membrane's pore geometry (triangle, diamond, square, hexagon and their different size). Secondly, the PTFE spinning solution consisted of PTFE emulsion and carrier (PVA aqueous solution) was electrospun into nascent PTFE/PVA membrane, which had regular geometric pore structure. Finally, the nascent membrane suffered sintering process, and the NFES PTFE membrane was obtained. Effects of PTFE/PVA mass ratio, sintering temperature and annealing condition, pore geometry on the membrane morphology, structure and properties were investigated, respectively. Results found that the square membrane showed good combination of membrane performances and properties, when PTFE/PVA mass ratio was 6:1 and sintered at 380 °C followed by cooling in muffle furnace. Owing to the excellent hydrophobicity , the obtained PTFE membranes exhibited excellent oil/water separation performance in terms of high oil flux (707 L m -2 h -1 ) without extra pressure, and high separation efficiency (rejection up to 99.6%). Owing to the regular and accurate pore structure, the PTFE membrane was utilized in the particle sequential separation. The mixed silica (SiO 2 ) particles with a series of diameter (1, 5, 10, 20 μm) were sequential separated by PTFE membranes with different pore geometry, and the rejection reached up to 82.0%.

To overcome the limitations of existing hydrophobic membranes for membrane distillation (MD) to treat industrial wastewater with complex contaminants, a composite membrane was developed in this study via incorporating graphene oxide (GO) on commercial polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) membrane. The dual-layer GO/PTFE membrane demonstrated asymmetric wettability, which transformed the membrane from in-air hydrophobic and underwater superoleophilic pristine surface to in-air hydrophilic and underwater oleophobic surface. The composite membrane displayed excellent salt rejection (>99.9%) and organic rejection (99.4%) during MD of bio-treated coking wastewater, outperforming the pristine PTFE membrane with apparent fouling and wetting phenomenon. The flux of GO/PTFE membrane reached 20.1 kg/m 2 ·h, which is 44% higher than that of the pristine membrane. These improvements were attributed to the specific morphological and physicochemical characteristics of the composite membrane, such as high water affinity, strongly negative charges on membrane surface, reduced temperature polarization and screening effect to large molecules by the GO layer. This study suggests that GO/PTFE composite membrane has great potential in enhancing the permeate flux and fouling resistance simultaneously, which could be a competitive option for MD to treat challenging wastewaters enriched with salts and hydrophobic organics.

Composite coatings consisting of polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and 40 nm silicon dioxide (SiO 2 ) nanoparticles (PPS-PTFE/SiO 2 ) with SiO 2 in the range of 0–4 g/l were successfully prepared on AZ31 Mg alloys by a simple spray process. The morphology, composition, water contact angle (WCA), wear behavior and corrosion properties of the composite coatings were measured by using SEM, FT-IR, OCA20, sandpaper abrasion and electrochemical workstation, respectively. Effects of SiO 2 content on the wear behavior and corrosion properties of the coatings were studied. It is found that micro-sized protrusions distribute on the surface of the coatings, and a fibrous-network structure of PTFE arranges on the protrusions. WCAs of the PPS-PTFE/SiO 2 (0–4 g/l) coating are in the range of (152°–145.5°) ± 0.3° and the sliding angles (SAs) are less than 5°. The WCAs of the un-abraded and 10 m-abraded-on-sandpaper PPS-PTFE/SiO 2 (4 g/l) coating are 145.5°±0.3° and 142.5°±0.3°, respectively, implying the PPS-PTFE/SiO 2 coating is a robust superhydrophobic one with good wear resistance. Due to the superhydrophobic characteristics, the PPS-PTFE-based coatings show superior corrosion resistance in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution to pristine AZ31 Mg alloys. Owing to the excellent superhydrophobicity, wear resistance and corrosion resistance properties, the robust PPS-PTFE/SiO 2 coating is regarded to possess great potential to be applied in automobiles and navigation industries in future.

Buoyant photocatalysts which are able to remove organic pollutants under all lighting and weather conditions are in demand for the treatment of large volumes of organic wastewater. Buoyant carbon and nitrogen co-doped TiO2/polytetrafluoroethylene (NCT/PTFE) flakes which meet these requirements were prepared by the high-energy ball-milling of NCT powder and PTFE. The physicochemical properties of the as-prepared composite flakes were evaluated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), ultraviolet–visible diffuse reflection spectroscopy (UV-vis DRS), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area determination, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), as well as electrical conductivity and density measurements. The density of the composite flakes was 0.93 g cm−3, slightly lower than that of water, rendering them buoyant. And the used-and- regenerated (by UV-vis irradiation for 8 h) flakes are also buoyant. Adsorption in the dark and photodegradation experiments indicated that the as-prepared flakes have high dark adsorption and high photocatalytic properties. The 6 h photodegradation ratio of methylene orange (20 mg L−1, 100 mL, as a model dye) is 96.6%, and a close degradation ratio of 97% can be obtained by three-cycle dark adsorption with minor stirring (1 cycle includes 8 h dark adsorption followed by 8 h regeneration by UV-vis irradiation per cycle). The high adsorption and good photocatalytic properties can be mainly attributed to the large BET surface area resulting from the small NCT particle size. The as-prepared flakes have the potential for use in organic pollutant adsorption at any time and can be regenerated through light irradiation when sunlight is available. This kind of environmental protection material has great practical significance due to its low cost, simple preparation, thermal durability, highly efficient organic pollutant removal, large-volume treatment capacity, recyclability, and the possibility of working at any time.

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) composite coatings doped copper acetate and polyurethane (PU) were prepared on rubber substrate by low-energy electron beam dispersion technique. The effects of dopant and glow discharge treatment on the surface morphology, structure and tribological properties of the coatings were investigated. The results showed that Cu–PTFE composite coatings form uniform surface and dense column structure with spherical aggregations under glow discharge treatment. PU coating shows the large size of protuberance structure but PU–PTFE coating presents spherical structure. Both of the coatings become relative dense and smooth after discharge treatment, and Cu–PU–PTFE composite coatings possess a smoother surface and lower polar component of surface energy. Cu doping weakens the crystallinity and ordering degree of composite coatings, but glow discharge increases the ordering degree and branched structure of C―H groups. Friction experiment indicated that Cu fails to improve the wear resistance of PTFE coatings but glow discharge treatment can do it. Cu–PU–PTFE coatings after discharge treatment have the higher wear resistance and lower coefficient of friction. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Monolithic bilayer PTFE-based aerogels with vertically aligned channels were fabricated. • PDA deposition regulated water transport for optimized evaporation and salt resistance. • Vertically aligned channels facilitated capillary water transport and Marangoni-driven salt back-diffusion. • The evaporator achieved an evaporation rate of 2.41 kg m -2 h -1 and over 95% retention. Solar-driven interfacial evaporation has emerged as a promising strategy for alleviating the global freshwater crisis. However, its practical application is hindered by the degradation of evaporation performance owing to salt accumulation and material aging. In this study, a bilayer polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)-based aerogel with vertically aligned microchannels is fabricated. Carbon nanotubes are encapsulated in the upper layer for efficient photothermal conversion, and polydopamine is controllably deposited on the PTFE skeleton to impart a hydrophilic functionality and regulate the water supply. Under one sun illumination, the evaporator achieves a high evaporation rate of 2.41 kg m −2 h −1 while self-floating in 3.5 wt% brine. Notably, the increased air–liquid interface in the channels promotes Marangoni convection, which synergistically promotes diffusion to actively recycle salt ions back to bulk water, thereby ensuring a salt-free evaporation interface for 15 days of continuous outdoor operation. Additionally, the evaporator demonstrates exceptional durability, retaining over 95% of its initial evaporation rate during a 14-day accelerated aging test. This study offers a simple and scalable design option for solar evaporators that combine long-term stability with excellent efficiency.

To address the challenges of low selectivity and poor stability in hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) electrosynthesis within neutral media, this study developed an O/N co -doped carbon nanotube-polytetrafluoroethylene composite cathode (designated as GF/ONCNTs-6/PTFE). Through precise control of the synergistic effects between pyrrolic-N doping (40.7 %) and carboxyl/ether functional groups, the adsorption of *OOH intermediates was significantly enhanced; simultaneously, PTFE micro-cracks were employed to establish triple-phase interfaces for facilitated oxygen diffusion. The cathode achieved a high H₂O₂ yield of 139.45 mg/L under neutral conditions (pH 7), with a current efficiency of 67.06 %, and exhibited only 8.2 % activity loss after 10 cycles. In an integrated electro-Fenton system, it accomplished 98.8 % degradation of methyl orange within 2 h under optimal conditions. This work demonstrates that defect engineering and O/N functionalization in composite cathodes significantly boost 2e − ORR efficiency, offering a promising laboratory-scale platform for electrochemical wastewater purification

We address this by synthesizing a PtFe alloy catalyst (PtFe–PA–NC) via a phytic acid (PA) assisted pyrolysis strategy, featuring Pt-skin-coated PtFe alloy nanoparticles on hierarchically porous N-doped carbon (NC). PA treatment simultaneously enhances the support's surface area and pore structure for better mass transport, and incorporates P into the carbon framework via P–C bonds. It can induce charge delocalization, regulating the electronic structure of PtFe alloys and strengthening Pt–Fe coupling. The Pt-skin suppresses Fe dissolution, whereas the PtFe core optimizes oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) intermediate adsorption (e.g., *OH). Theoretical calculations confirm that the Fe atom adjusts the d-band center of the Pt atom, intensifying oxygen binding and shifting the rate-determining step. Electrochemically, PtFe–PA–NC achieves a half-wave potential of 0.85 V and retains 95.8% of specific energy density after more than 140 h in zinc-air batteries. In alkaline fuel cells, it delivers a peak power density of 508 mW cm −2 at an ultralow Pt loading (0.017 mg cm −2 ), approximately twice that of 5 wt% Pt/C (0.025 mg cm −2 ). This work showcases synergistic electronic and interfacial regulation through heteroatom doping and alloying, promoting high-performance hydrogen/metal air batteries. 摘要 en This link goes to a English section zh This link goes to a Chinese section 铂基催化剂是氢/金属空气电池商业化的关键,但铂资源稀缺、成本高昂且纳米颗粒易溶解/团聚 , 是导致其性能衰减的主要原因。
