Ultra-low Pt induced amorphous/crystalline heterophase Pt-Co2P hollow nanotubes for superior water electrolysis at industrial temperatures

Ziting Li,Peng Zhou,Mingyan Zhang,Haochen Zhang,Yongyi Zhang,Dan Han,Xiaoshuang Chen

Evaluating water electrolysis at industrial temperatures can effectively facilitate the practical application of the catalysts for hydrogen generation. Here, amorphous/crystalline heterophase Pt-Co 2 P hollow nanotubes with ultra-low Pt content of 0.1 wt% are triumphantly constructed. Benefiting from “superaerophobic” hollow nanotube architecture, the heterophase Pt-Co 2 P catalyst displays small overpotential (52.8 mV at 10 mA cm −2 ), low Tafel slope (68.9 mV dec -1 ) and long-term stability for hydrogen evolution reaction. Its mass activity (16.95 mA μg -1 Pt ) is nearly two times larger than Pt/C at 70 mV overpotential. Moreover, the Pt-Co 2 P||Co 2 P electrolyzer just requires 1.32 V to reach 10 mA cm −2 at industrial temperature (65 °C). Density functional theory (DFT) calculations disclose that after the introduction of Pt in Co 2 P, the d-band central of Co and hydrogen adsorption bader charge are downshifted, significantly improving the initial H* desorption. This work provides a neoteric thought to develop the electrocatalysts with peachy quality for water splitting.

Room-Temperature Hydrogen-Sensitive Pt-SnO2 Composite Nanoceramics: Contrasting Roles of Pt Nano-Catalysts Loaded via Two Different Methods

Jieting Zhao,Jiannan Song,Xilai Lu,Menghan Wu,Zhiqiao Yan,Feng Chen,Wanping Chen

Soluble noble metal salts are widely used for loading noble metals as nano-catalysts in many applications. In this paper, Pt-SnO2composite nanoceramics were prepared from SnO2nanoparticles and H2PtCl6using two Pt loading methods separately: for the solution reduction method, a H2PtCl6solution was added to a suspension of SnO2and zinc powder to form Pt on SnO2nanoparticles, and for the impregnation method, Pt was formed from H2PtCl6in the course of sintering. Although a series of samples prepared using both Pt loading methods showed a solid response to H2at room temperature, the ones prepared using the solution reduction method exhibited much better room-temperature hydrogen-sensing characteristics. For two samples of 0.5 wt% Pt and sintered at 825 °C, the response value for the sample prepared using the solution reduction method was 9700 to 1% H2–20% O2-N2, which was much larger than the value of 145 for the sample prepared using the impregnation method. Samples prepared using the two Pt loading methods have similar microstructures characterized via XRD, FESEM, EDS, TEM, and HRTEM. However, the residual chlorine content in those using the impregnation method was higher than those using the solution reduction method according to the analysis. It is proposed that the striking difference in room-temperature hydrogen sensing characteristics among samples prepared using these two different Pt loading methods separately resulted from their different chlorine removal processes. This study demonstrates the importance of a proper method for loading noble metals from their soluble salts as nano-catalysts in many applications.Keywords:SnO2;gas sensor;room temperature;Pt loading;catalyst

Enhanced CH4 Selectivity in CO2 Hydrogenation on Bimetallic Pt–Ni Catalysts with Pt Nanoparticles Modified by Isolated Ni Atoms

Min Chen,Bolang Li,Fei Wang,Jinhou Fang,Kai Li,Changbin Zhang

Catalytic CO2 hydrogenation is a promising way to produce chemicals and has recently received much attention; however, designing catalysts with special product selectivity still remains a challenge. Here, we interestingly found that the Pt–Ni/γ-Al2O3 catalyst tended to have high CH4 selectivity, while both Pt/γ-Al2O3 and Ni/γ-Al2O3 had high CO selectivity. The characterization results showed that the Pt–Ni bimetallic catalyst was composed of Pt nanoparticles with surrounding Ni atoms. The results of in situ diffuse reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy showed the direct disassociation of CO2 to CO on the Pt/γ-Al2O3 and the decomposition of formate species to CO on Ni/γ-Al2O3. However, the presence of Pt–Ni bimetallic sites changed the hydrogenation pathway, in which the electronic interaction between Pt particles and surrounding Ni atoms promoted the further hydrogenation of formate species to CH4. This study provides insights into the understanding of the mechanisms of CO2 hydrogenation on bimetallic catalysts.

Synergistic Effect of Pt and Dual Ni/Co Cations in Hydrotalcite-Derived Pt/Ni1.5Co0.5AlO Catalysts for Promoting Soot Combustion

Yilin Zhang,Peng Zhang,Jing Xiong,Yuanfeng Li,Yaxiao Ma,Sicheng Zhang,Zhen Zhao,Jian Liu,Yuechang Wei

In this article, the catalysts of hydrotalcite-derived Ni1.5Co0.5AlO nanosheet-supported highly dispersed Pt nanoparticles (Ptn/Ni1.5Co0.5AlO, where n% is the weigh percentage of the Pt element in the catalysts) were elaborately fabricated by the gas-bubble-assisted membrane--reduction method. The specific porous structure formed by the stack of hydrotalcite-derived Ni1.5Co0.5AlO nanosheets can increase the transfer mass efficiency of the reactants (O2, NO, and soot) and the strong Pt–Ni1.5Co0.5AlO interaction can weaken the Ni/Co-O bond for promoting the mobility of lattice oxygen and the formation of surface-oxygen vacancies. The Ptn/Ni1.5Co0.5AlO catalysts exhibited excellent catalytic activity and stability during diesel soot combustion under the loose contact mode between soot particles and catalysts. Among all the catalysts, the Pt2/Ni1.5Co0.5AlO catalyst showed the highest catalytic activities for soot combustion (T50= 350 °C, TOF = 6.63 × 10−3s−1). Based on the characterization results, the catalytic mechanism for soot combustion is proposed: the synergistic effect of Pt and dual Ni/Co cations in the Pt/Ni1.5Co0.5AlO catalysts can promote the vital step of catalyzing NO oxidation to NO2in the NO-assisted soot oxidation mechanism. This insight into the synergistic effect of Pt and dual Ni/Co cations for soot combustion provides new strategies for reducing the amounts of noble metals in high-efficient catalysts.

CO2 hydrogenation over mesoporous Ni-Pt/SiO2 nanorod catalysts: Determining CH4/CO selectivity by surface ratio of Ni/Pt

Zhongliang Huang,Yujia Yuan,Miaomiao Song,Zhimian Hao,Jingran Xiao,Dongren Cai,Abdul-Rauf Ibrahim,Guowu Zhan

Herein, we fabricated a series of bimetallic Pt-Ni catalysts supported on mesoporous silica nanorods ( m SNR, specific BET surface area of 1802 m 2 g −1 ) to study the effect of Ni/Pt ratio on the product selectivity in CO 2 hydrogenation. Both monometallic Pt/ m SNR and Ni 50 Pt 50 / m SNR catalysts revealed negligible methane selectivity. However, methane became the major product only when increasing the Ni/Pt ratio up to 9. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and inductively coupled plasma (ICP) characterizations showed that the Pt/Ni ratio on the catalyst surface was appreciably higher than the bulk composition, suggesting the enrichment of Pt on the surface ( e.g. , Pt/Ni of 61/39 for Ni 50 Pt 50 / m SNR catalyst). The Pt/Ni ratio was crucial in determining the CH 4 /CO selectivity, and the addition of a tiny amount of Pt could improve the catalytic performance and stability of Ni/ m SNR. Among the different catalysts, Ni 98 Pt 2 / m SNR showed the best CO 2 conversion (59%) and CH 4 selectivity (96%) at 400 °C, 0.1 MPa, 9600 mL h −1 g cat −1 , and H 2 /CO 2 of 3. In-situ DRIFTS and temperature-programmed surface experiments suggested that the dissociated adsorption of CO 2 on the Pt site led to CO*, but the strongly adsorbed CO* cannot be further hydrogenated to CH 4 over the Pt site. In contrast, CO* could be further hydrogenated into CH 4 via CH x O* intermediates on adjacent Ni sites.

Ambient Temperature Formaldehyde Oxidation on the Pt/Na-ZSM-5 Catalyst: Tuning Adsorption Capacity and the Pt Chemical State

Hailin Zhao,Bingjing Tang,Jie Tang,Yafeng Cai,Yao Cui,Hao Liu,Li Wang,Yunsong Wang,Wangcheng Zhan,Yanglong Guo,Yun Guo

Catalytic oxidation is believed to be the most efficient method for indoor formaldehyde purification. Herein, we reported that the Pt/Na-ZSM-5 catalyst with low Pt loading (0.16 wt %) prepared by depositing Pt on Na+ ion-exchanged ZSM-5 could completely oxidize 300 ppm formaldehyde in 2.5 vol % H2O at 32 °C and maintain its activity during the 62 h-long stability test. Multiple characterizations revealed that the presence of Na species significantly enhanced formaldehyde adsorption ability and made Pt species tend to exist in the form of metal Pt through electron transfer from Na to Pt, which promoted the activation of oxygen and opened a new efficient formaldehyde oxidation pathway, namely, direct decomposition of formate. The synergistic effects resulted in the TOF of Pt(0.16)/Na-ZSM-5 being about nine times higher than that of Pt(0.50)/ZSM-5. Our study showed that utilizing an alkali metal to tune the surface acidity/basicity of the support and the state of the supported noble metal was a promising way to improve the intrinsic catalytic performance and reduce noble metal usage.

Improved naphthalene photodegradation rate of CN/Pt-P25 photocatalyst by effectively tuning Pt chemical states via H2 secondary annealing

Yu Huang,Xinyang Xu,Fengkun Han,Xi Chen,Guangjian Fan

Photocatalytic technology holds promising prospects for remediating naphthalene pollution in water bodies. In this work, the CN/Pt-P25 photocatalyst was successfully prepared via photodeposition combined with co-pyrolysis methods, and employed for naphthalene photodegradation under simulated sunlight. The chemical state of Pt was found to have a significant impact on the photocatalytic activity. H 2 secondary annealing effectively tuned Pt chemical states, increasing the proportion of Pt 0 species on the CN/Pt-P25 photocatalyst from 41.91 % to 62.24 %. The improved proportion of Pt 0 species proportion led to a reduction in the bandgap, which induced changes in the band positions and notably enhancing the separation efficiency of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. Under simulated sunlight irradiation, (H 2 ) CN/Pt-P25 photocatalyst achieved complete naphthalene photodegradation within 100 min. Thus, photocatalysts containing a high proportion of Pt 0 species exhibited an improved performance in naphthalene photodegradation. These findings provide new insights into the application of photocatalytic technology for the remediation of PAHs.

Sm and Mn doped enhancing the electrical properties of .68PMN–.32PT relaxor ferroelectric thin films

Liang Chen,Changxing Zhao,Peng Jiang,Shuhong Xie,Kai Pan

(1− x )Pb(Mg 1/3 Nb 2/3 )O 3 – x PbTiO 3 (PMN–PT) has attracted attention due to its excellent electrical properties as a typical relaxor ferroelectric material. High-quality Mn–Sm co-doped 0.68PMN–0.32PT thin films were synthesized on the Pt/Ti/SiO 2 /Si substrates by sol–gel based on spin coating method. The results show that 1 mol% Mn–2 mol% Sm co-doped PMN–PT thin films have high dielectric constant ( ε r ∼ 1895) and relatively low dielectric loss (tan δ ∼ .039) at 1 kHz. They also show superior ferroelectric polarization ( P max ∼ 53.71 μC/cm 2 , P r ∼ 30.85 μC/cm 2 ) and high dielectric breakdown strength (∼1656.6 kV/cm), which are primarily due to the low leakage current density (∼10 −7 A/cm 2 ). This work suggests a practical approach to enhance the dielectricity, piezoelectricity, and ferroelectricity of PMN–PT thin films.

Interfacial engineering boosting charge extraction for efficient photocatalytic hydrogen evolution

Fangxu Dai,Zhiying Guo,Weijie Zhao,Zhenjiang Li,Jun Xing,Lei Wang

In heterostructure photocatalyst, metal–support interaction plays a key role in determining the photocatalytic reaction, which is rarely studied due to its complicated mechanism involving interfacial bonding, internal electric field, and charge transfer etc. Here we report an interfacial engineering to promote the photocatalytic hydrogen evolution of the model photocatalyst Pt/TiO 2 . A stable oxidized Cu + layer was inserted as an interlayer between Pt nanoparticles and TiO 2 support, which boosts the efficiency of photoinduced charge extraction and regulates the surface charge state of the photocatalyst. The synthesized photocatalyst Pt/Cu/TiO 2 exhibits highly efficient hydrogen evolution of 1 L g −1 h −1 , which is 63% higher than the photocatalyst Pt/TiO 2 . This charge extraction strategy is also evidenced on photocatalysts Pt/(Rh, Co or Ni)/TiO 2 . Our findings not only provide insight into interfacial interaction in photocatalyst, but also offer effective guidelines for the design and fabrication of high-performance photocatalysts.

Pt/Al2O3 for Efficient CF4 Hydrolytic Decomposition

Zihao Wang,Xiangchen Huang,Min Xie,Tianyang Yin,Renhong Chen,Wenjie Luo,Jun Liu

Tetrafluoromethane (CF4) is one of the most stable perfluorinated compounds because of its highly symmetric molecular structure and extremely strong C–F bonds. Catalytic hydrolysis provides a promising route for CF4abatement, yet the development of efficient catalysts capable of activating C–F bonds at reduced temperatures remains challenging. Herein, Pt-modified Al2O3catalysts were prepared to promote CF4decomposition through the regulation of surface acidity, CF4adsorption, and hydroxyl formation. NH3temperature-programmed desorption revealed that Pt introduction significantly enhanced the surface acidity of Al2O3, while CF4temperature-programmed desorption demonstrated strengthened CF4adsorption over Pt/Al2O3. In situ infrared spectroscopy further showed that Pt incorporation promoted the generation of surface hydroxyl groups under reaction-relevant conditions. These hydroxyl species are proposed to participate in C–F bond activation during CF4hydrolysis. As a result, Pt/Al2O3achieved complete CF4decomposition at 600 °C and maintained excellent stability during the long-term test, clearly outperforming pristine Al2O3. This work demonstrates that Pt/Al2O3is an effective catalyst for CF4decomposition by coupling enhanced acidity, improved CF4adsorption, and hydroxyl-assisted C–F bond activation.

Atom-glue stabilized Pt-based intermetallic nanoparticles

Zhongliang Huang,Yingru Wang,Jing Xia,Shengnan Hu,Nanjun Chen,Tianyi Ding,Changhong Zhan,Chih-Wen Pao,Zhiwei Hu,Wei-Hsiang Huang,Tong Shi,Xiangmin Meng,Yong Xu,Liang Cao,Xiaoqing Huang

Pt-based nanoparticles (NPs) have been widely used in catalysis. However, this suffers from aggregation and/or sintering at working conditions. We demonstrate a robust strategy for stabilizing PtCo NPs under high temperature with strong interaction between M–N–C and PtCo NPs with Pt–M–N coordination, namely, “atom glue.” Such atom glue for stabilizing Pt-based NPs can be extended to Zn, Mn, Fe, Ni, Co, and Cu, being a versatile strategy for stabilizing PtCo NPs, which substantially promotes the performance toward oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and fuel cell. Impressively, the mass activity (MA) reaches 2.99 A mgPt−1 for ORR over g-Zn–N–C/PtCo, and 79.3% of the initial MA is maintained after 90K cycles in fuel cell. This work provides a versatile strategy for stabilizing Pt-based NPs via atom glue, which is likely to spark widespread interest across various fields.

Precision mitochondrial reprogramming via a ROS-amplifying Pt(IV) nanoplatform potentiates tri-modal therapy to overcome Pt resistance in HCC

Ruoning Qian,Junqing Hou,Hongjun Guo,Qiang Zhang,Jiamin Lin,Yitian Zhou,Zhiqiang Bi,Jiajia Shen,Xi Yang,Shanshan Wang,Zhengguang Zhang,Ruogu Qi

Mitochondrial dysfunction plays a critical role in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) progression. This study develops a glutathione-responsive Pt(IV)–artesunate (ART) prodrug (Pt–ART) that co-releases cisplatin and ART in the tumor microenvironment, synergizing DNA damage and iron-dependent ROS generation for combined chemotherapy and chemodynamic therapy. The prodrug is encapsulated into a ROS-responsive, fluorinated polyethyleneimine-chlorin e6-based polycationic nanoparticle, coated with polyethylene glycol-chondroitin sulfate for enhanced tumor targeting via the EPR effect, CD44 receptor-mediated uptake, and mitochondrial accumulation. This nanoplatform effectively inhibits Drp1 expression, induces mitochondrial membrane depolarization, and demonstrates potent triple-modality therapy combining chemotherapy, chemodynamic therapy, and photodynamic therapy. Our work provides an innovative strategy integrating herbal medicine with nanotechnology to overcome limitations of conventional Pt-based therapies.
