A photoelectrochemical platform for thrombin determination was developed based on Au-rGO-CuS as multiple signal amplification elements. CuInS 2 QDs was used to sensitize burr-shape TiO 2 (b-TiO 2 ) to obtain a strong photocurrent. Under the specific recognition between aptamer and thrombin, a sandwichlike structure was formed and the Au-rGO-CuS-labeled aptamer (S2@Au-rGO-CuS) was immobilized on the electrode surface. This induced a sharp decrease in photocurrent. The phenomenon is mainly due to the fact that CuS NPs can competitively consume the light energy and electron donor with CuInS 2 /b-TiO 2 . The rGO can increase the amount of CuS NPs and the Au NPs can accelerate charge transferring which depress the recombination of photogenerated electrons and holes in CuS to further enhance the competitive capacity of CuS. The sandwichlike structure has a steric hindrance effect. Therefore, the S2@Au-rGO-CuS has a multiple signal amplification function for thrombin determination. Under optimal conditions, the PEC aptasensor exhibited a wide linear concentration range from 0.1 pM to 10 nM with a low detection limit of 30 fM (S/ N = 3) for thrombin. Besides, the designed aptasensor performed well in the assay of human serum sample, indicating good potential for the determination of thrombin in real samples.

It is believed that the construction of a well-hybridized and nanoscale SnS 2 -rGO interconnection would make Li + diffusion distance shorter, cycle performance stable and high-rate property remarkable application in the LIBs anodes. Here, a novel SnS 2 /rGO aerogel with ultrathin SnS 2 nanosheets, well-hybridized networks, and desirable covalent-bonded interconnection was successfully prepared by a modified one-step hydrothermal method. The aerogels were used for anode of lithium-ion batteries (LIB), and exhibited a remarkable electrochemical performance, including an ultra-high initial specific capacity (1682 mAh g −1 ), excellent rate performance (474 mAh g −1 at the rate of 10 A g −1 ), and perfect cycle stability (1388.4 mAh g −1 after 100 cycles at 0.1 A g −1 ), superior to those of previous reports. It is obvious that the aerogel’s well-hybridized and covalent-bonded networks, super stable and intact structure, and improved electron conductivity would play a very important role during charging/discharging of the improved Li + transportation. Therefore, the SnS 2 /rGO aerogel materials created by us would be a very promising candidate for future advanced lithium-storage-type power sources.

Spherical Ni2SnO4 nanoparticles were uniformly loaded on reduced graphene oxide (RGO) sheets via a hydrothermal process. The obtained nickel stannate–reduced graphene oxide (Ni2SnO4–RGO) composite was used as a catalyst for activating persulfate (PS). The heterostructure composed of Ni2SnO4 and RGO prevents both the agglomeration of Ni2SnO4 nanoparticles and the restacking of RGO sheets. The synergy between the two components affords enhanced Ni2SnO4–RGO catalytic activity. Using Ni2SnO4–RGO to activate PS can degrade bisphenol A (BPA) at a faster rate with less PS, in comparison with the most recently reported catalysts. BPA solution (50 mL, 0.10 mM) can be 100% degraded by PS (0.02 g) within 30 min at pH 8 using Ni2SnO4–RGO (0.02 g) as the catalyst. Moreover, the preparation of Ni2SnO4–RGO is simple, inexpensive and environment-friendly. The radical scavenging study indicates that sulfate radicals () and hydroxyl radicals (˙OH) are involved in the oxidation, in which plays a leading role. In addition, Ni2SnO4–RGO retains high catalytic activity after four consecutive cycles, exhibiting greatly enhanced stability in comparison with Ni2SnO4. Besides, the effect of different inorganic anions on the degradation was also explored.

Selective hydrogenation of phenol is a green strategy to produce cyclohexanone. Achieving high phenol conversion and cyclohexanone selectivity under mild conditions is a significant challenge in the design and synthesis of highly efficient catalysts. Herein, a highly efficient Pd@CN-rGO catalyst is synthesized by supporting Pd nanoparticles on the composite of ZIF-derived N-doped carbon and reduced GO (CN-rGO), which is prepared via annealing the composite of layered ZIF-L-Co and GO. The as-fabricated Pd1.2@CN-rGO-15 catalyst shows superior catalytic performance in phenol hydrogenation, and its turnover frequency (TOF) is 33.7 h–1, 3.2 times higher than that of Pd1.6/rGO and 1.5 times higher than that of Pd0.9@CN-rGO-0. The synergistic effect of CN and rGO leads to the uniform dispersion of Pd, high phenol adsorption ability, and strong antioxidizability of Pd, which contributes to the superior catalytic performance. More importantly, Pd@CN-rGO has good reusability in phenol hydrogenation. These findings will offer new insights into the development of high-performance catalysts for the selective hydrogenation of phenol.

Since dielectric elastomers (DEs) can undergo muscle-like actuation under external electric fields, they show promising applications in fields such as actuators, generators, and biomimetic robots. However, traditional DEs require strong electric fields and pre-stretching to deliver useful deformation, limiting their practical applications. Herein, a novel method for preparing polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) composites with high actuation under low electric field without pre-stretching is reported. In this method, polydopamine (PDA) is used to modify sandwich-structured silicon dioxide@graphite oxide hybrids (PDA@SiO 2 @GO). The inclusion of the SiO 2 layer improves the dielectric constant and reduces the dielectric loss of the composite, while the PDA shell improves the dispersibility of the filler. The PDA@SiO 2 @rGO/PDMS composite containing 5 wt% PDA@SiO 2 @GO exhibits a large actuated strain of 14.23% under an electric field of 33.19 kV/mm without pre-stretching; this value is 465% larger than that of pure PDMS and superior to those of most reported DEs composites. The results provide a promising new route to prepare high-performance DEs.

Constructing nanostructured composite architectures has been considered as an effective strategy to reduce the lattice thermal conductivity (κL) and enhance the dimensionless figure of merit (ZT) of thermoelectric materials. Herein, a series of SnSe/reduced graphene oxide (rGO)-x (x = 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7 wt%) nanocomposites are controllably synthesised in situ via a facile single-step bottom-up solution method, where rGO nanosheets are incorporated intimately into the SnSe matrix. Nanocompositing performs two key functions: (i) significantly reducing the lattice thermal conductivity of the material, which can be attributed to enhanced phonon scattering from high-density SnSe/rGO interfaces, and (ii) improving the electrical conductivity over the low temperature range, as result of an increased carrier concentration. The subsequent thermoelectric performance of SnSe/rGO sintered pellets has been optimised by tuning the rGO mass fraction, with SnSe/rGO-0.3 achieving κL = 0.36 W m−1 K−1 at 773 K (cutting the κL of SnSe by 33%) to yield a maximum ZT of 0.91 at 823 K (representing a ∼47% increase compared to SnSe). This study provides a new pathway to improve the thermoelectric performance of polycrystalline SnSe by way of engineering metal chalcogenide/rGO composite architectures at the nanoscale.

The hole transport layer (HTL) free carbon based perovskite solar cells (Carbon PSC) are known for low cost, good stability and commercial manufacturing technology . Compared to the structure of traditional cells, the carrier transport performance between the absorber layer and the carbon electrode (CE) is poor. As an excellent P-type material, NiO has been doped in CE for obtaining a better performance of PSCs. However, NiO will inevitably reduce the conductivity of the CE due to the poor conductivity, thus failing to fully exploit the advantages of NiO in hole extraction. In this paper, rGO/NiO composites were successfully prepared by doping rGO with good conductivity, which not only improved the conductivity of the CE, but also ensured good hole extraction of the doped CE. The carrier transport in the cell was significantly improved, resulting in 32% increase in the short circuit current density (J sc ). The performance of perovskite solar cells was optimized by doping the CE, and the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of the cell was increased from 5.48% to 8.50%.

This work presented a new method for preparing cellulose nanofibril (CNF)/Fe 3 O 4 @rGO composite aerogels with enhanced magnetic and mechanical properties. The composite aerogels were obtained through compounding, gelling, washing, tert -butanol replacing, and freeze-drying. The structural characteristics of composite aerogels were investigated via scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared, and X-ray diffraction. Results showed that the composite aerogels had interconnected three-dimensional porous network microstructures, and the Fe 3 O 4 @rGO hybrids were uniformly dispersed in the aerogels. Moreover, the aerogels' magnetization and compression characteristics were also studied. Magnetic measurements indicated that composite aerogels had good magnetization characteristics with the saturation magnetization value of 6.75 emu/g. The uniaxial compression tests showed that the compression strength and Young's modulus of the composite aerogels were significantly improved by 32.33 and 118.56%, respectively, relative to those of CNF aerogels. The perfect combination of structure and performance may render the composite aerogels useful for commercial applications in the fields of environmental engineering, biomedical engineering, electronics, and energy. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Detection of nitrite is important for environmental safety and human health, and the development of high-performance sensors for accurate detection of nitrite is highly desirable. Herein, a highly sensitive graphene electrochemical transistor (GECT) nitrite sensor was designed and fabricated for the first time. A single layer of graphene was placed between the source and drain electrodes by the wetting transfer method to act as channel for the transistor. Au nanoparticles modified reduced graphene oxide nanocomposites (AuNPs/RGO) were electrodeposited at the transistor gate to improve its catalytic oxidation performance of nitrite with optimized electrodeposition conditions. The sensing principle was attributed to changes in effective gate voltage applied to GECT induced by electrooxidation of nitrite at gate electrodes . Due to the high carrier mobility of graphene in the channel and the excellent electrocatalytical activity of AuNPs/RGO on the gate, the obtained sensor device exhibited an exceedingly low detection limit (0.1 nM nitrite) and ultra-wide linear range from 0.1 nM to 7 μM and from 7 to 1000 μM, which are comparable or superior to the performance of large-scale instruments (e.g. chromatography , spectrophotometry , and spectrofluorimetry etc.). The GECT device also showed good anti-interference performance toward common interfering ions and stable performances. Nitrite in natural lake water has been proven to be monitored by our devices. Therefore, the present novel GECT sensor could act as a desirable practical platform for highly sensitive detection of nitrite in the food and environmental fields.

To improve the photocatalytic performance of ZnO nanoparticles , based on the collective effect as electron sink of Ag and perfect two-dimensional (2-D) feature of graphene, Ag-ZnO-rGO nanoparticles were prepared by polyvinyl alcohol assisted freeze-drying and subsequent hydrothermal reduction method. Through photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange solution under UV irradiation , all as-prepared samples were assessed and compared with those of published works. The surface morphology , microstructure and optical property of materials were systematically studied by XRD , XPS , SEM , TEM and DRS , respectively. XPS and Raman spectra results confirmed that GO has successfully been reduced to rGO; SEM and TEM characterizations manifested that Ag-ZnO NPs were uniformly distributed in rGO with two-dimensional sheets structure; DRS characterization and Kubelka-Munk formula calculation illustrated that Ag-ZnO-rGO exhibited the smallest band gap and the best optical absorption performance. Moreover, the photocatalytic degradation results indicated that Ag-ZnO-rGO NPs combine the advantages of graphene and Ag which not only has significant adsorption but also maintains high photoreactivity.

The covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have emerged as potential photocatalysts for solar-driven hydrogen evolution , but the disadvantage that photogenerated electrons and holes are prone to recombination limits their applications. Here, a rGO/BP/TpPa-1 high-low heterojunction with electron acceptors was prepared by integrating reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and black phosphorus (BP) into COF TpPa-1 to reduce the recombination rate of photoinduced charge carriers. The photocatalytic hydrogen evolution rate reached 18.09 mmol h −1 g −1 , about 3.3 times higher than pure TpPa-1. Here, a two-step photogenerated electron transfer mechanism is proposed. Firstly, a high-low heterojunction is formed between TpPa-1 and BP through an internal electric field from BP to TpPa-1, facilitating photogenerated electrons transfer from TpPa-1 to BP, then rGO attached to the BP surface acts as an electron acceptor, further collecting photogenerated electrons for reaction. This work provides a novel strategy for synthetizing efficient COF-based photocatalysts.

Pd-based alloys, especially for alloys containing early transition metals, have been extensively designed and applied to electro-oxidize formic acid for direct formic acid fuel cells owing to their capability to directly oxidize formic acid molecules via the dehydrogenation pathway. Adjusting the strain and electronic effects of Pd-based alloys is an effective method to regulate the adsorbing phenomena of intermediates on catalysts during formic acid oxidation and improve the catalytic activity and stability. The ordering degree of alloys plays an important role in modulating the adsorbing ability. In this work, we report a strategy varying the atomic ordering degree of PdCoNi/rGO trimetallic alloys to manipulate the strain and electronic effects and electrocatalytic performance toward formic acid oxidation. A series of PdCoNi/rGO-T trimetallic catalysts are synthesized, in which the atomic order of the trimetallic catalysts is regulated by annealing the wet-chemistry-synthesized PdCoNi/rGO alloy. As the annealing temperature increases, the atomic arrangement among Pd, Co, and Ni is ordered. Eventually, ordered intermetallic PdCoNi/rGO-T catalysts are generated. As the atomic ordering degree increases, the lattice constant decreases, and more charge transfers from Pd to Ni and Co, leading to enhanced strain and electronic effects. Moreover, the ordered intermetallic structure stabilizes Co and Ni atoms to prevent the dissolution of the transition metals in acidic electrolyte, and the strain and electronic effects in ordered PdCoNi/rGO catalysts are maintained. With an annealing temperature of 700 °C, the intermetallic PdCoNi/rGO-700 exhibits the highest specific activity of 8.33 mA/cm2, which is 1.95-fold improved compared to pristine PdCoNi/rGO alloy (3.23 mA/cm2) and 2.48 times compared to Pd/rGO-700 (2.54 mA/cm2). Moreover, PdCoNi/rGO-700 also shows outstanding catalytic durability due to its excellent structural stability. We believe that this research helps in developing Pd-based alloy catalysts with high activity and stability for formic acid electro-oxidation.
