Achieving High Photoluminescence Quantum Yield in Sb-Doped Indium-Based Hybrid Halides for Single-Component Warm White LEDs

Yuyang He,Yuting Xu,Yuzhen Wang,Shuai Zhang,Zhiguo Xia

Indium(III)-based hybrid halides are emerging low-dimensional luminescent materials; however, their rigid lattices and d 10 electronic configuration of In 3+ suppress intrinsic self-trapped-exciton (STE) emission, leading to limited photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY). To address this issue, Sb 3+ is doped into the 0D (Me 2 NH 2 ) 4 InCl 7 host, transforming it from a nearly non-emissive material into a highly efficient warm-white STE emitter. The optimized (Me 2 NH 2 ) 4 InCl 7 :0.2Sb 3+ delivers a near-unity PLQY (∼100%) under 350 nm excitation. Single-crystal structural analysis and theoretical calculations reveal substitutional Sb 3+ at In 3+ sites, inducing locally distorted [SbCl 6 ] octahedra. This Sb 3+ -triggered local lattice distortion strengthens electron–phonon coupling, and it deepens the STE potential well and suppresses non-radiative relaxation pathways, thereby enabling robust broadband STE emission with a microsecond-scale lifetime (4.28 µs), a large Stokes shift (280 nm), and a wide bandwidth (177 nm). This work provides a facile route to realize warm-white emission from a single host lattice based on stable, low-toxicity indium-based hybrid halides.

How iron-bearing minerals affect the biological reduction of Sb(V): A newly discovered function of nitrate reductase

Haikun Zhang,Yanyu Sun,Manman Cheng,Xiaori Sui,Yanyan Huang,Xiaoke Hu

As a toxic element of global concern, the elevated concentration of antimony (Sb) in the environment has attracted increasing attention. Microorganisms have been reported as important driving forces for Sb transformation. Iron (Fe) is the most important metal associated element of Sb, however, how Fe-bearing minerals affect the biological transformation of Sb is still unclear. In this study, the effects of Fe-bearing minerals on biological Sb(V) reduction were investigated by employing a marine Shewanella sp. CNZ-1 (CNZ-1). Our results showed that the presence of hematite, magnetite and ferrihydrite (1 g/L) resulted in a decrease in Sb(III) concentration of ~19–31 % compared to the Fe(III)-minerals free system. The calculated Sb(V) reduction rates are 0.0256 (R 2 0.71), 0.0389 (R 2 0.87), 0.0299 (R 2 0.96) and 0.0428 (R 2 0.95) h −1 in the hematite-, magnetite-, ferrihydrite-supplemented and Fe(III)-minerals free systems, respectively. The cube-shaped Sb 2 O 3 was characterized as a reductive product by using XRD, XPS, FTIR, TG and SEM approaches. Differential proteomic analysis showed that flagellar protein, cytochrome c , electron transfer flavoprotein, nitrate reductase and polysulfide reductase (up-regulation >1.5-fold, p value <0.05) were supposed to be included in the electron transport pathway of Sb(V) reduction by strain CNZ-1, and the key role of nitrate reductases was further highlighted during this reaction process based on the RT–qPCR and confirmatory experiments. Overall, these findings are beneficial to understand the environmental fate of Sb in the presence of Fe-bearing minerals and provide guidance in developing the bacteria/enzyme-mediated control strategy for Sb pollution.

Phase Boundary Design and Electrical Properties of Sb/Ta/Li Co-doped KNN-Based Pb-Free Piezoelectric Ceramics

Yang Shengyan,Chang Niannian,Han Mengyuan,Zhang Yang

Pb-free piezoelectric ceramic materials (K 0.48 Na 0.48 Li 0.04 )(Nb 0.92 Ta 0.08− x Sb x )O 3 (KNLNTS) were designed and prepared. The effects of varied Sb/Ta doping on the physical structure, surface morphology, and electrical characteristics of ceramics were also studied. The perovskite structure is present in all of the doped ceramic samples without any secondary phase (when x  < 0.05). All of the doped ceramic samples have a Curie temperature ( T C ) above 300°C. At the same time, the orthorhombic–tetragonal phase transition temperature ( T O–T ) is pushed closer to ambient temperature. Doping with Sb/Ta/Li changed the electrical characteristics of the samples and increased their piezoelectric properties. At x  = 0.03, the KNLNTS sample has the best piezoelectric properties: d 33  = 215 pC/N, Pr = 26.08 μC/cm 2 , T C  = 342.6°C.

Ultra-Fast Electrochemical Oxidation of Norfloxacin on Copper-Doped Ti/SnO2–Sb Anodes: Influencing Factors and Degradation Pathways

Jing Meng,Geng Cong,Guan Yinyan,Gao Weichun,Ming Hao,Li Dan,Wang Nan,Liu Shiyue,Jiang Wei,Liang Jiyan,Wang Xueying

Abstract The sol-gel approach was utilized to make a copper-doped Ti/SnO 2 -Sb anode for electrochemical oxidation of norfloxacin (NOR). Sycanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), linear scan voltammograms (LSV), and cyclic voltammetry (CV) were used to examine the anode’s surface morphology and electrochemical characteristics. The results show that the doped metal makes the anode coating denser and smoother, which is more conducive to resistance to electrochemical corrosion. The electrochemical degradation of NOR utilizing the constructed anode was examined in relation to reaction circumstances such as current density, pH value, and initial NOR concentration. Within the selected range of reaction conditions, the removal rate of NOR using Ti/SnO 2 –Sb–Cu electrode was significantly higher than that of blank electrode. The following were the shifting trends: NOR removal efficiencies grew with applied current density and initial NOR concentration, and reduced with increasing pH value. Water samples with different reaction times were taken and tested by UV-Vis spectrum. As can be seen from the results, with the progress of the reaction, the intensity of the characteristic peak decreased, indicating that NOR is degraded gradually. The electrochemical degradation pathways of NOR were studied using liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (LC-MS). Six intermediates were detected and a possible reaction pathway for the degradation of NOR by electrochemical oxidation was proposed.

Adsorptive removal of Sb(III) from wastewater by environmentally-friendly biogenic manganese oxide (BMO) materials: Efficiency and mechanisms

Huawei Wang,Zijuan Lv,Yi Song,Ya-nan Wang,Daoyong Zhang,Yingjie Sun,Yiu Fai Tsang,Xiangliang Pan

Antimony(Sb(III)) contamination in wastewater has raised global concerns due to its high toxicity. The efficiency and mechanisms of Sb(III) adsorptive removal from wastewater with environmentally-friendly biogenic Mn oxide (BMO) materials as adsorbent were investigated, based on kinetic experiments and multispectroscopic analyses. Kinetic experiments showed that after 300 min of reaction, 97.79–100% of Sb(III) and 85.60–92.92% of total Sb were removed, indicating that BMO can quickly and effectively oxidize Sb(III) and sequester Sb(V) from water. The bacterial activity in BMO did not significantly affect Sb(III) removal, but a decrease in the release of Mn(II) into solution may provide new reactive sites for the re-oxidation of Sb(III). X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS) high-resolution analysis suggested that Sb(V) was the only speciation remaining in the solid phase after the reaction of Sb(III) with BMO. X-ray diffraction (XRD) results further showed that the fast oxidation of Sb(III) by BMO led to the production of Mn(II) antimonate (Mn 2 Sb 2 O 7 ) precipitates. Successive extraction experiments confirmed that residual fraction (67.49–83.62%) and Mn oxide bound fraction (13.18–29.72%) were the dominant fractions of Sb(III) after 300 min of reaction, which were relatively stable and had low leaching risks. These findings indicated that BMO performed well in removing Sb(III) from wastewater.

Active chlorine mediated ammonia oxidation in an electrified SnO2–Sb filter: Reactivity, mechanisms and response to matrix effects

Zhipeng Liu,Yewen Tao,Zhong Zhang,Jiazhou He,Kui Yang,Jinxing Ma

Ammonia pollution control has gained increasing attention as a result of the existential threat to the environment. The electrochemical advanced oxidation process has demonstrated to be an attractive and environmentally benign platform for aqueous ammonia removal because it only requires electricity and water as a clean “reagent”. Herein, we developed a porous SnO 2 –Sb filter toward high-efficient ammonia conversion. Despite the introduction of enhanced convection, chlorine-mediated ammonia oxidation dominated the reaction mechanism of the electrified SnO 2 –Sb filter at circumneutral pH. At an extremely short hydraulic contact time (1.0–5.1 min), ammonia was primarily oxidized to N 2 with no chloramines detected. Matrix effect assays showed that the chloride–to–ammonia ratio was vital to determine the removal rate and product selectivity. A pH buffer, HCO 3 − , might prompt ammonia removal whilst inhibiting chlorate formation. In contrast, the ammonia removal performance of the SnO 2 –Sb filter deteriorated in the presence of dissolved organic matter ( e.g. , humic acid). The matrix effects significantly influenced the process efficiency to treat municipal sewage and lake water. The results of this study can advance our understanding of electrochemical ammonia oxidation and provide insight into the effective implementation and optimization of the flow-through process.

A core–shelled Sb@C nanorod cathode with a graphene aerogel interlayer for high-capacity aluminum ion batteries

Tongge Li,Haoyu Hu,Tonghui Cai,Xiaoqi Liu,Yixun Wang,Liying Wang,Yu Zhang,Wei Xing,Zifeng Yan

Rechargeable aluminum-ion batteries, RAIBs, as a prime candidate for next-generation batteries, have attracted much attention due to their extremely high anode capacity and good safety. However, the lack of matching high-capacity cathode materials and reasonable design limit their practical development. Herein, core–shelled Sb@C nanorods are prepared by polymer coating and thermal reduction as a metal-based cathode for RAIBs. The carbon shell and graphene aerogel interlayer effectively block the diffusion and shuttling of charging products, thus exhibiting excellent electrochemical performance. This Al–Sb battery delivers an initial discharge capacity of 656 mA h g−1 at 100 mA g−1, a stable discharge voltage of 0.9 V, and excellent cycling stability maintained at 306 mA h g−1 after 500 cycles at 1 A g−1. Serial characterizations are used to monitor the structural changes of Sb in reversible reactions and to determine the configuration of the charged products, showing that the product exists in the form of [SbCl4]+ cations, that is, a five-electron transfer reaction occurs with a very high theoretical capacity (1100 mA h g−1). This study sheds light on the energy storage mechanism of a metallic Sb cathode in RAIBs, and provides new insights into the study of high-capacity cathodes and the rational design of battery structures.

Removal mechanism of Sb(V) by a hybrid ZIF-8@FeNPs and used for treatment of mining wastewater

Chao Xue,Qu Zhang,Wenpeng Li,Gary Ownes,Zuliang Chen

The removal of antimonate (Sb(V)) species from wastewaters has become a growing concern due to their known genotoxicity and carcinogenicity. In this paper, a hybrid ZIF-8@FeNPs material was synthesized from Zeolite Imidazole Framework-8 (ZIF-8) and zero-valent iron nanoparticles ( n ZVI) and subsequently used to remove Sb(V) from aqueous solution. Characterization indicated that ZIF-8@FeNPs were successfully synthesized and that the valence state of Sb(V) did not change during the removal process, where adsorption of Sb(V) was facilitated by the high specific surface area and porosity of the hybrid. Advanced characterization also showed that Zn-OH and iron oxides were adsorbed on the material after complexation with Sb(V). Kinetic, isothermal, and thermodynamic modeling indicated that the adsorption process followed pseudo-second-order kinetics, via multilayer adsorption which was spontaneous and endothermic. A Sb(V) removal mechanism based on adsorption was proposed. In mining wastewater containing 1.121 mg·L −1 Sb(V), 89.7 % could be removed by the material. During repeated reuse of ZIF-8@FeNPs for the removal of 1 mg·L −1 Sb(V) through four successive cycles, the removal efficiency was still relatively high (39.1 %) after the fourth cycle indicating good potential for practical applications. In addition, ZIF-8@FeNPs also exhibited magnetic properties, which demonstrated that Sb(V) could be easily recovered from wastewater post removal by ZIF-8@FeNPs.

Fabrication of a permeable SnO2-Sb reactive anodic filter for high-efficiency electrochemical oxidation of antibiotics in wastewater

Chao Yang,Yiang Fan,Shanshan Shang,Pu Li,Xiao-yan Li

Electrochemical oxidation (ECO) is an appealing technology for treating emerging organic pollutants in wastewater. However, the conventional flow-by ECO process is expensive with a low energy efficiency owing to the limitations of mass transport of contaminants to the limited surface area of the anode. In this study, a novel freestanding porous and permeable SnO 2 -Sb anode was fabricated by one-step sintering using micrometer-sized (NH 4 ) 2 CO 3 grains as the pore-forming agents. This permeable SnO 2 -Sb anode without Ti substrate functioned as a reactive anodic filter (RAF) in an ECO cell to treat wastewater containing ciprofloxacin (CIP). Forcing the wastewater through the porous RAF depth-wise improved the mass transport and vastly enlarged the electroactive surface area. Compared with the conventional flow-by configuration, the flow-through RAF exhibited a 12-fold increase in the mass transfer rate constant (60.7 × 10 −6 m s −1 ) and a 5-fold increase in the CIP degradation rate constant (0.077 min −1 ). At a cell potential of 4.0 V, more than 92% of the CIP was degraded in a single-pass operation at a filtration flux of 54 L m −2 h −1 and a short retention time of 1.7 min through the RAF. The robustness and stability of the RAF were demonstrated by its remarkable CIP degradation efficacy of 99% during 200 h of operation. The mechanism of CIP degradation was examined using probe molecules and density functional theory calculations and found to be a combined effect of direct electron transfer and oxidation by generated radicals ( OH and SO 4 − ). The great potential of RAF in flow-through ECO was further validated by its effective removal (>92%) of various organic pollutants in actual municipal wastewater at a low energy consumption of 0.33 kWh m −3 . The RAF-based ECO process thus provides an advanced environmental technology for the oxidation of toxic and recalcitrant organic pollutants in wastewater treatment.

Restricted fiber contraction during amidoximation process for reinforced-concrete structured nanofiber sphere with superior Sb(V) adsorption capacity

Yonghui Tu,Long-Fei Ren,Yuanxin Lin,Jiahui Shao,Yiliang He

Amidoxime-polyacrylonitrile (APAN) nanofiber possesses advantages of adsorbing heavy metals for abundant amidoxime groups. However, it easily suffers from poor mechanical property caused by fiber contraction during amidoximation process. Inspired by high mechanical strength of reinforced concrete, we embedded stiff polylactic acid (PLA) skeletons into PAN matrix to prepare reinforced-concrete structured nanofiber sphere (APAN/PLA NFS) through solution blending. Preparation parameters including polymer concentration and PAN/PLA ratio were optimized as 4.0% and 1:1, and coarse sphere surface, numerous mesopores and large pore volume (19.3 mL/g) were endowed. Scanning electron microscope results showed restricted fiber contraction with nitrile conversion of 58.1%. APAN/PLA NFS showed robust compressive strength of 3.28 MPa with strain of 80%, and X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimeter analysis revealed that crystalline PLA reinforced non-crystalline PAN through molecule-level compatibility. Compared with plain APAN sphere, Sb(V) adsorption from water for APAN/PLA NFS showed better performance with superhigh capacity of 949.7 mg/g and fast rate (equilibrium time of 2 h), which was owing to abundant mesopores preserved by PLA skeletons. These findings indicated that PLA was a promising skeletal candidate which could protect APAN from fiber contraction during amidoximation process and could strongly expand adsorption capacity of APAN for heavy metals.

Equably-dispersed Sb/Sb2O3 nanoparticles in ionic liquid-derived nitrogen-enriched carbon for highly reversible lithium/sodium storage

Zhaomin Wang,Fanming Zeng,Dongyu Zhang,Xinyu Wang,Weiling Yang,Yong Cheng,Chun Li,Limin Wang

Antimony anode has attracted increasing attention with its suitable voltage platform and high theoretical capacity. Nonetheless, its actual application is largely hindered by the capacity loss due to the volume effect during the cyclic process. Herein, A novel polyhedral structure nitrogen and carbon doped Sb/Sb 2 O 3 (Sb/Sb 2 O 3 -NC) nanoparticles are designed via a liquid phase reaction approach followed by a thermal treatment process. The nanocomposite anode used for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) delivers a reversible specific capacity as high as 460 mAh g −1 after 100 cycles at 2 A g −1 and excellent rate performance of 353 mAh g −1 at 10 A g −1 . In addition, at a current density of 500 mA g −1 , Sb/Sb 2 O 3 -NC exhibits a capacity of 318 mAh g −1 after 100 cycles and excellent rate performance of 183 mAh g −1 at 2 A g −1 for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). The results suggest that the polyhedral Sb/Sb 2 O 3 -NC could be a potential candidate as anode material for LIBs and SIBs.

Preparation of TiO2@Sn(Sb)O2 core–shell composites and their applications for electrocatalytic degradation of methylene blue

Zhang He,Qian Jianhua,Zhang Jie,Xu Jiasheng

TiO 2 @Sn(Sb)O 2 core–shell composites (TiO 2 @SnO 2 , TiO 2 @Sb 2 O 4 and TiO 2 @Sb-SnO 2 ) have been prepared through a chemical co-precipitation method with a calcination process. The mixture hydrolysates of SnCl 4 and SbCl 3 have been deposited on the surface of TiO 2 as the precursor. These hydrolysates have been converted to Sn(Sb)O 2 particles, leading to the formation of the TiO 2 @Sn(Sb)O 2 core–shell structure. Their electrochemical performances and electrocatalytic degradation efficiencies of methylene blue (MB) have been investigated. It is found that TiO 2 @Sb-SnO 2 electrode presents a larger effective electrocatalytic area and more electroactive sites, which provide more contact points between the pollutant and electrode and enhance electrocatalytic oxidation activity. The TiO 2 @Sb-SnO 2 electrode exhibits a higher degradation efficiency (97.6%) than that of TiO 2 @SnO 2 (80.1%) and TiO 2 @Sb 2 O 4 (34.9%). The TiO 2 @Sb-SnO 2 electrode provides a 91.1% degradation efficiency after five cycles test, indicating a high stability during degradation process. These results show that the as-prepared TiO 2 @Sb-SnO 2 electrode can provide a promising application to treat dye wastewater, which relies on its core–shell structure.
