Layered manganese oxide has rich active sites, amounts of variable valence states, and economic feasibility, so it has attracted wide attention. In aqueous zinc ion batteries, its poor conductivity and easy solubility in water limit its performance as an electrode. Therefore, we used a simple one-step hydrothermal method to prepare Ag+ intercalated MnO2 for aqueous zinc-ion batteries’ cathode. An in-depth exploration of the electrochemical phenomenon of Ag–MnO2 found that interlayer Ag+ regulates the electronic structure of MnO2 and reduces the Jahn–Teller effect, and the desolvation of Ag–MnO2 is easier, which promotes the embedding of Zn2+. In addition, the migration of Ag+ and the in situ formation of Ag metal particles also enhance the conductivity of the electrode. As a result of the Ag+-Ag0 synergistic effect, Ag–MnO2 has obtained high rate performance (275.6 mA·h·g–1 at 200 mA·g–1) and excellent cycle stability (98.8% capacity retention over 600 cycles at 1000 mA·g–1). This provides insights for the pre-inserted Ag+ to improve the electrochemical performance of MnO2.

Spinel LiMn 2 O 4 with excellent cycling performance and low cost has been regarded as the most promising cathode material for lithium-ion batteries. However, the manganese dissolution and electrolyte decomposition significantly compromise structural stability, thereby hindering large-scale practical implementation. Here, we propose a surface modification strategy to enhance the structural stability of the LiMn 2 O 4 cathode using Ag nanoparticles as coating materials, where the size of the Ag nanoparticles is controlled by adjusting the decomposition temperatures of AgNO 3 to 600, 700, 750, and 800 °C. Combining the detailed structural characterization and performance characterization, we find that surface coating with the largest-sized Ag nanoparticles with 10.02 nm contributes to stabilizing the interface between the cathode materials and electrolyte, reducing the decomposition of electrolyte, and improving ion diffusion kinetics. Consequently, the corresponding Ag/LiMn 2 O 4 heterostructure exhibits outstanding cycle performance, with an initial discharge capacity of 101.6 mAh g -1 and capacity retention of 84.45% after 1000 cycles at 5 C under 25 °C. Our work demonstrates an effective method to improve the structural stability of LiMn 2 O 4 .

Herein, the robust core-satellite Ag/TiO 2 /Ag composite nanospheres were successfully developed. We firstly fabricated large silver nanoparticles with sufficient plasmonic activity as cores and then encapsulated uniform titanium dioxide interlayer shell around Ag cores, which serves as the highly functionalized substrates to achieve uniform and plentiful surface chemical properties. Next, the outer shell of small silver satellites was formed in-situ via controllable reduction of AgNO 3 by n -butylamine, which acts as the remarkable enhancer for surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). The Ag/TiO 2 /Ag composite nanospheres with exceptional SERS sensitivity were easily prepared via facilely tuning the coverage and grain sizes of silver satellites. Then the optimized Ag/TiO 2 /Ag composite nanospheres were employed to quantitatively detect methylene blue (MB) in solution. The results showed good linear relationship between SERS intensities and logarithm concentrations of MB and the limit of detection is low to 10 −10 M. Moreover, the highly uniform and robust Ag/TiO 2 /Ag composite nanospheres display outstanding reproducibility (RSD = 4.02%) and highly storage stability. Owing to the intrinsic catalytic activity of small Ag satellites, Ag/TiO 2 /Ag nanospheres were further applied to effectively follow the degradation reaction process of crystal violet by SERS. Altogether, the core-satellite Ag/TiO 2 /Ag nanospheres present multiple SERS application potential in various fields, such as quantitative chemical analysis, trace detection of pollutants and in-situ reaction monitoring.

To investigate the influence of different powder addition strategies on the properties of Ag-containing lubricating coatings, NiCrAlY-Mo-Ag-Cu coatings incorporating different (Ag, Cu) powders (direct doping, core-shell structure, and powder alloyed) were fabricated via atmospheric plasma spraying. Combining characterization techniques and density functional theory calculations, the friction behavior, tribological properties, and underlying mechanisms of the three coatings were explored through constant-temperature friction tests and thermal cycling friction tests over a wide temperature range. The results indicate that the core-shell structure process helps reduce coating porosity (from 2.61% to 1.68%), but the average hardness of the coating decreased by 12.5% (230.6 HV → 201.8 HV). The alloying strategy circumvented hardness degradation, striking a balance between coating densification and mechanical robustness. At 800 ℃, a composite tribofilm comprising simple metal oxides (e.g., NiO, Cr 2 O 3 , and Al 2 O 3 ) and high-temperature lubricating phases (NiMoO 4 , Ag 2 MoO 4 , CuMoO 4 ) developed on the surface, effectively suppressing silver agglomeration and depletion. Owing to the synergy of these effects, the AgCu-alloyed coating achieved a low coefficient of friction (COF) of 0.25 at 400 ℃ and demonstrated a ∼30.9% reduction in wear rate during the 800 ℃ thermal cycling test compared to the direct-doping coating.

Interest in functional silver has rapidly grown over the years due to significant advances in separation, sensing, catalysis, and biomedical applications. Here we developed a new strategy to load single atomic silver species in the rigid and open unit of the fully conjugated benzimidazole-linked polymers (BILPs). Due to the well-defined chelating units of N-heterocycles, the Ag + ion species can be coordinated by N ligands and stabilized in the atomic level without aggregating into nanoscale Ag clusters and nanoparticles. The obtained Ag + -BILP-101 exhibits a selective binding property of Ag + ions from solutions. The ultrastable structure and the property of taking up metal species, endow BILPs with the advantages of functionalizing metal species. After the reduction by NaBH 4 , the Ag + ions were transferred into Ag nanoparticles. The substantial and intrinsic porosity of BILPs also gives excellent accessibility to Ag species loaded in the frameworks. The plentiful N-heterocycles and loaded Ag species show a synergistic/coadsorption effect for iodine vapor, and the charge transfer from frameworks promotes the formation of iodide ions. The iodine capture capacities of Ag + -BILP-101 and Ag 0 -BILP-101 reach 3.3 g/g and 3.7 g/g at 80 ℃, and still maintain 3.2 g/g and 3.5 g/g at 150 ℃, respectively. After ethanol elution, the residual iodine/Ag molar ratios in Ag + /Ag 0 -BILP-101 samples are still more than one (about 1.5), suggesting their strong affinity toward iodine. This work highlights the excellent selective Ag + ion binding and Ag species supporting properties of BILPs, which can extend to other porous organic framework platforms for various applications based on silver species-skeleton interactions.

In this work, the water-soluble fluorescent Ag nanoclusters (DPA @ Ag NCs) were first prepared based on D-Penicillamine (DPA) as a stabilizer, however, the fluorescence quantum yield (QY) of DPA @ Ag NCs was very low, then Cu 2+ was employed to improve the fluorescence QY and the doped Ag nanoclusters with Cu 2+ (DPA @ Ag/Cu NCs) were obtained. The study showed that the QY increased fourfold and the emission of nanoclusters changed from red to yellow after addition of Cu 2+ . The reason for change of fluorescent properties was attributed to the change of self-assembly structures caused by adding Cu 2+ into reaction system, leading to the aggregation-induced emission enhancement (AIEE) effect and enhancing the band gap (Eg) between the HOMO and LUMO in nanoclusters. Subsequently, a fluorescent Ag + sensor with high sensitivity and selectivity was established based on the DPA @ Ag/Cu NCs as probes in aqueous solution. Experiments showed that the Ag + could significantly quench the fluorescence of DPA @ Ag/Cu NCs under experimental conditions, and there was a good linear relationship between the fluorescent intensity quenching value and Ag + concentration in the range of 0.05–800 μM, and the limit of detection (LOD) was 0.03 μM (3σ/k). Meanwhile, most of common ions had no effect on the experimental results under the same conditions. In addition, the sensor was successfully applied on the detection of Ag + in real water samples, and the recovery rate was 80.3–99.0%.

Well-defined deposition of noble metal nanoparticles is attractive for the synthesis of heterogeneous metal catalysts with excellent activity, stability, and easy separability. Herein, a facile method combining surface coordination deposition with thermal decomposition has been proposed to fabricate Ag/CoFe 2 O 4 composites as magnetic catalysts for hydrogenation reduction of 4-nitrophenol and 2-nitroaniline. This method involved the adsorption of silver ions on cobalt-ferrous oxalate through the surface coordination, and then the thermal decomposition into Ag/CoFe 2 O 4 . The characterizations of XRD , SEM, FTIR, BET, VSM , XPS and Element mapping were utilized to reveal that Ag/CoFe 2 O 4 exhibited a magnetic saturation of 40.4 emu g −1 , a specific surface area of 58.8 m 2 g -1 , and an even distribution of metallic Ag on CoFe 2 O 4 particles. Catalytic reduction tests of 4-nitrophenol and 2-nitroaniline indicated that the Ag contents in Ag/CoFe 2 O 4 seriously affected the catalytic activity of the catalysts. Moreover, the durability test showed that Ag/CoFe 2 O 4 still preserved ∼74.6% of the initial catalytic activity even at the 20th run.

Herein, oxygen-deficient NH 4 V 4 O 10 micro-flowers with loaded Ag quantum dots and pre-intercalated Ag + (NVO-Ag) for aqueous zinc ion battery (AZIB) cathode materials were successfully synthesized by a one-step hydrothermal method. The reversible redox reaction between Ag + and Ag quantum dots, and the abundant Zn 2+ storage sites from oxygen vacancies provided capacity contributions for NVO-Ag. Meanwhile, the loaded Ag quantum dots, pre-intercalated Ag + and introduced oxygen vacancies synergistically optimized the electronic structure and distribution of NVO-Ag, promoting the transport of electrons in NVO-Ag. The pre-intercalated Ag + could also replace the NH 4 + in the interlayer of NH 4 V 4 O 10 , weakening the repulsion between the interlayer NH 4 + and Zn 2+ , which achieved rapid Zn 2+ diffusion kinetics. Moreover, the abundant oxygen vacancies in NVO-Ag could alleviate the strong electrostatic interaction between Zn 2+ and V-O framework, boosting the transmission of Zn 2+ in NVO-Ag. Finally, the structural stability of NH 4 V 4 O 10 micro-flowers was improved due to the high bonding strength between Ag + and V-O layers. Benefiting from the above effects, NVO-Ag-100 achieved excellent capacity performance (387.2 mAh g −1 at 0.5 A g −1 ), rate performance (178.9 mAh g −1 at 12 A g −1 ) and cycle stability (91.7 % capacity retention after 1700 cycles at 8 A g −1 ). This work provided effective ideas to achieve high-performance AZIB cathode materials.

The application of electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) to generate value-added products, including carbon monoxide (CO), represents a sustainable strategy for addressing the global carbon balance. Silver (Ag) has gained significant attention as an attractive and cost-effective electrocatalyst for CO2RR-to-CO due to high activity. Here, the porous Ag nanofoam catalysts with Ag(111)-dominant were prepared by in-situ electrolysis-deposition method in the ionic liquid (IL) electrolyte. The Ag nanofoam catalysts exhibited exceptional activity in converting CO2 to CO, with a high Faradaic efficiency (> 95%) in a wide range of -1.9 ~ -2.4 V vs. Ag/Ag+ in the 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([Bmim][BF4]) electrolyte. The maximum CO partial current density of -125.40 mA cm-2 was obtained on this Ag nanofoam catalyst, representing 62% improvement over Ag(110)-dominant Ag electrode (-77.35 mA cm-2) at -2.4 V vs Ag/Ag+ in the [Bmim][BF4] electrolyte. Density functional theory calculations demonstrate that the Ag(111) crystal facet formed by in-situ electrolysis-deposition method prefers to adsorb [Bmim][BF4] which can stabilize the reaction intermediate, thereby weakening the reaction free energy and promoting CO2 electroreduction.

In this study, based on Ag@AgCl/tubular g-C 3 N 4 (Ag@AgCl/TCN) composite, Ag nanoparticles were deposited on its surface to form Ag nanofilm enhanced composite through photoreduction of excessive silver nitrate solution to obtain Ag nanofilm Ag@AgCl/TCN photocatalyst . Finally, Ag nanofilm Ag@AgCl/TCN/Ti photoanode was successfully prepared by silica-sol drop-coating method, and assembled with Cu 2 O/Cu cathode to construct a photocatalytic fuel cell (PFC). Ag nanofilm can not only enhance the light absorption and utilization of Ag@AgCl/TCN/Ti, but also extend its light response wavelength to visible light , and be used as an electron transfer medium to reduce internal resistance. The photocurrent density and the photoconversion efficiency of the Ag nanofilm/Ag@AgCl/TCN/Ti are 8.01 mA·cm −2 and 1.24%, respectively, which are 2.49 and 2.54 times those of the Ag@AgCl/TCN/Ti photoanode, respectively. The first-order kinetic constant and the maximum power density of the Ag nanofilm-coated Ag@AgCl/TCN/Ti-Cu 2 O/Cu PFC system are 0.064 min −1 and 46.37 μW·cm −2 , respectively, which are 1.39 and 1.94 times those of the Ag@AgCl/TCN-Cu 2 O/Cu PFC system, respectively. In addition, it degraded more than 95% of rhodamine B, 72.68% of tetracycline and 54.25% of bisphenol A within 60 min. The excellent performance of Ag nanofilm/Ag@AgCl/TCN/Ti-Cu 2 O/Cu is due to the strengthening of Ag nanofilm and the formation of S-type heterojunctions between AgCl and TCN. Free radicals (•Cl, h + , •OH, •O 2 - ) and non-radicals ( 1 O 2 ) are involved in the degradation reaction of RhB degradation. It is worth noting that 6% Ag nanofilm/Ag@AgCl/TCN/Ti-Cu 2 O/Cu has a positive effect on the production of •O 2 - , and its output is approximately 1.89 times that of the Ag@AgCl/TCN/Ti-Cu 2 O/Cu. A series of material characterization experiments have been completed and possible mechanisms of operation have been proposed. This study provides a new scheme for the design and preparation of high-efficiency photoanode of PFC.

Silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) are a type of crucial bactericide due to their excellent antibacterial properties. However, the application of Ag-NPs in clinics and in bone tissue engineering is hampered because of their unabiding antibacterial efficacy and undesirable biological properties such as cytotoxicity and inferior hemocompatibility. In this study, Ag-NPs were modified with polydopamine (pDA) and hydroxyapatite (HAp) to prepare novel and multifunctional core (Ag-NPs)–shell (pDA)–shell (HAp) nanoparticles (Ag@pDA@HAp-NPs). The Ag+ release rate was reduced by about 80% on the first day, and then Ag+ was slowly released, which implied that the core–shell Ag@pDA@HAp-NPs could effectively control the release of Ag+. The core–shell Ag@pDA@HAp-NPs could obviously inhibit the growth of E. coli and S. aureus, and the bactericide rate of the Ag@pDA@HAp-NPs was up to 99.99% after being cultured for 24 h. Furthermore, the synthesized Ag@pDA@HAp-NPs exhibited superior hemocompatibility due to the favorable blood compatibility of the pDA coating and HAp shell as well as the controlled release of Ag+. Thus, the core–shell Ag@pDA@HAp-NPs, with the ability for the controlled release of Ag+ and superior hemocompatibility, are promising for reducing cytotoxicity and achieving long-term antibacterial properties, and could have potential applications in clinics and in bone tissue engineering.

Wearable sensors with high sensitivity, fast response and recovery are highly desirable for many new application fields. Herein, we synthesized the cotton fiber which coated with reduced graphene oxide doped with silver nanowire (rGO-Ag NW@cotton fiber) via a simple and environmentally friendly hydrothermal method . The flexible and wearable rGO-Ag NW@cotton fiber based piezoresistive sensor was fabricated with the orientation of face-to-face, where the cotton fiber coated with reduced graphene oxide (rGO@cotton fiber) was used as the lower part of the sensor. The addition of silver nanowire (Ag NW) provides a faster and more convenient channel for charge transfer, resulting in the greatly improvement of the performance, showing the high sensitivity, accompanied with the fast response and relaxation properties. With the effectively wrapping and protection of reduced graphene oxide (rGO), Ag NW was well protected and avoid being oxidized by the air, which contributes significantly to the excellent stability of the sensor. Under the synergistic effect of Ag NW and rGO, rGO-Ag NW@cotton fiber based piezoresistive sensor can be well used in detecting human activities such as finger pressing, bending, twisting, walking and pulse waves, showing high sensitivity, fast response, fast recovery and high stability. These results indicate that the rGO-Ag NW@cotton fiber based piezoresistive sensor has an enormous potential for application in the flexible and wearable pressure sensors.
