Reliable, drift-resistant monitoring of SF 6 enrichment in air near gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) leak points remains challenging for compact and low-cost sensing nodes. Here we report a thermal-conductivity-differential sensor enabled by a materials-circuit co-design: a hierarchical AlN@h-BN/MWCNT nanocomposite coating is integrated onto a Pt-coil element and read out by a Wheatstone bridge with a sealed reference arm and differential amplification. The ternary architecture exhibits a well-developed mesoporous framework with a high BET surface area (111.03 m 2 ·g −1 ), promoting efficient gas transport within the sensing layer and strengthening the thermal-conductivity-induced perturbation of the bridge balance. Under synthetic dry air (21% O 2 /79% N 2 ) at 25 ± 1℃, the output is monotonic over 0.1–5.0% SF 6 , with a recommended linear regime of 0.1–1.0% for quantitative readout; the baseline noise (σ air = 0.16 mV) yields an estimated LOD (3σ) of 0.0654% (∼654 ppm), while 0.1% is the lowest experimentally validated concentration. The optimized excitation voltage (3.0 V) maximizes response by balancing gas-phase modulation against increased non-gaseous heat losses at higher temperatures. The sensor shows reversible cycling (52/23 s response/recovery), humidity-tolerant operation (± 8% deviation over 20–80% RH), and < 5% degradation over 90 days; as expected for a TCD-type mechanism, cross-responses are governed by thermal conductivity rather than chemical selectivity.

The rapid escalation of power density in modern electronic devices has heightened the demand for efficient thermal interface materials (TIMs) to ensure system reliability and stability. Silicone composites incorporating hexagonal boron nitride ( h -BN) fillers are widely used. However, their performance is hampered by weak interfacial interactions between BN and the polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) matrix, which induce structural defects, intensify phonon scattering, and compromise mechanical flexibility and environmental adaptability. Here, we report a facile and scalable synthesis of a dual dynamic crosslinked polyborosiloxane (DN-PBS) elastomer. With its intrinsic self-healing capability, DN-PBS was employed as the thermal interface material matrix, within which a three-dimensional hydroxylated h -BN (BNOH) thermally conductive network was assembled using a novel blade-coating/lamination/hot-pressing strategy. The resulting DNPBS/BNOH composites exhibited room-temperature self-healing and high thermal conductivity, thus addressing the challenge of ordered h -BN assembly. Moreover, the synergistic interactions between coordination and hydrogen bonds endowed the material with autonomous healing at room temperature and markedly suppressed interfacial phonon scattering. At a BNOH loading of 40 wt%, the composite exhibits a superior thermal conductivity of 8.9 W m −1 K −1 (representing a 39-fold enhancement) and an ultralow thermal resistance of 1.19K cm 2 W −1 . Simultaneously, it demonstrates exceptional mechanical compliance, characterized by a low Young’s modulus of 0.88 MPa and a high elongation at break of 433.8%, alongside intrinsic room-temperature self-healability. Moreover, the low dielectric constant and dielectric loss ensured minimal signal attenuation and energy dissipation, rendering the material highly suitable for thermal management in advanced electronic devices under complex service environments. This work provides a promising platform for next-generation high-performance TIMs in emerging electronics.

Graphene oxide (GO) lamellar membranes hold significant promise for gas separation but suffer from structural instability, particularly under high temperature, which deteriorates their separation performance. To address this, we developed a composite membrane by incorporating exfoliated boron nitride (BN) nanosheets into a GO matrix, followed by ionic liquid (IL) intercalation. Liquid nitrogen (LN 2 )-exfoliated BN nanosheets, characterized by uniformity and rigidity, were integrated to construct stable interlayer nanochannels. The resulting GO/BN-LN 2 membrane achieved a H 2 /CO 2 selectivity of 15.5 with a H 2 permeance of 505 GPU (gas permeation unit). More importantly, the intercalation of ILs (e.g., [Bmim][TF 2 N]) into the GO/BN interlayers yielded a synergistic enhancement. The ILs functioned as a selective CO 2 -absorbing layer and a “thermal buffer”, significantly improving the membrane's thermal stability. Consequently, the optimized GO/BN@IL composite membrane (d-spacing is 7.9 Å, and membrane thickness is 0.88 μm) maintained excellent performance at 363 K, exhibiting a markedly enhanced H 2 /CO 2 selectivity of 23.26 and a high H 2 permeance of 1020 GPU. This work demonstrates a facile strategy to simultaneously boost the selectivity, permeance, and thermal resilience of 2D lamellar membranes, showcasing their great potential for high-temperature H 2 purification applications.

With the rapid development of communication, electronics, medical, and energy industries in modern society, film capacitors have garnered widespread attention and undergone significant growth. However, the low energy density (Ue) resulting from low breakdown strength (Eb) significantly limits the application of thin-film capacitors. In this work, we use a low-cost and effective dip-coating method to apply boron nitride (BN) layers onto the outer layers of poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene)/barium titanate (P(VDF-HFP)/BT) composite films to prepare boron nitride-poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene/barium titanate-boron nitride (BN-P(VDF-HFP)/BT-BN) composite films with a sandwich structure that exhibits extremely highEbandUe. The experimental results show that the sandwich-structured BN-P(VDF-HFP)/BT-BN films containing 7.5 wt% BT nanoparticles obtained 530 MV/mEband 18.12 J/cm3Ue, both of which are much higher than those of the corresponding monolayer films. In addition, the finite element simulation results show that the designed sandwich-structured films can reduce local field strength distortion, decrease leakage current, and suppress the development of breakdown channels, thereby significantly improvingEbandUe. In summary, this study presents a low-cost and effective method for enhancing the breakdown strength and energy density of thin-film capacitors.

Solid electrolytes offer a transformative solution to the safety challenges that have long hindered conventional lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), which rely on organic liquid electrolytes. Among them, hydride-based materials such as LiBH 4 stand out due to their exceptional electrochemical stability and strong compatibility with anode materials. However, their inherently poor ionic conductivity at room temperature (RT, ~10 −8 S cm −1 ) remains a critical bottleneck, primarily attributed to the rigid crystalline framework of hydride structures, which impedes lithium-ion diffusion. In this study, we overcome this limitation by introducing defective hexagonal boron nitride (d-BN) and iodine solutes into a LiBH 4 matrix.(i.e. Li 4 (BH 4 ) 3 I/2(d-BN)) This strategic integration induces structural deformation in the BH 4 tetrahedra, creating optimized pathways for enhanced lithium-ion transport. As a result, the composite achieves an impressive ionic conductivity of 5.9 × 10 −4 S cm −1 at 40 °C and 4.0 × 10 −4 S cm −1 at 25 °C, approaching the conductivity requirement for the commercialization of solid-state electrolyte batteries (10 −3 S cm −1 ), positioning this material among the highest-performing solid hydride electrolytes to date. Mechanistic insights from density functional theory (DFT) and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations revealed that iodine and BN incorporation weakens Li B interactions, extends Li H bond lengths, and reduces the energy barrier for Li-ions migration. In addition, this gain in conductivity is accompanied by a strong cycling performance (The capacity retention rate of the optimized TiS 2 |Li 4 (BH 4 ) 3 I/2d-BN|Li battery exceeds 86 % after 30 charge-discharge cycles at 0.1C). These findings highlight the promise of Li 4 (BH 4 ) 3 I/d-BN composites as efficient solid-state electrolytes for next-generation energy storage applications.

LiBH 4 is an attractive material for hydrogen storage owing to its high hydrogen capacity of 13.8 wt% capacities. However, its high thermodynamic stability and sluggish kinetics limit its practical application as an onboard hydrogen storage medium. In this work, a synergetic effect of NbCl 5 and hexagonal BN (h-BN) on notably improving the dehydrogenation properties of LiBH 4 was investigated. It is found that the addition of NbCl 5 and h-BN co-dopants can significantly enhance the dehydrogenation kinetics of LiBH 4 , and the catalytic effect of co-dopant is better than that of NbCl 5 or h-BN dopant separately. The NbCl 5 /h-BN co-doped LiBH 4 can release 10.78 wt% hydrogen, which is about 13 times and 5 times more than that of the NbCl 5 doped LiBH 4 and h-BN doped LiBH 4 within 10 min at 400 °C, respectively. The major dehydrogenation temperature of NbCl 5 /h-BN co-doped LiBH 4 is reduced to 377 °C, much lower than that of ball-milled LiBH 4 (464 °C). The apparent activation energy ( E a ) of hydrogen desorption is reduced from 195.81 kJ/mol of LiBH 4 to 122.75 kJ/mol of NbCl 5 /h-BN co-doped LiBH 4 . The microstructural results reveal that the catalytic effect of NbCl 5 /h-BN co-dopant on improving the dehydrogenation kinetics of LiBH 4 could be ascribed to the in situ formed nano NbH@h-BN, which serves as the heterogeneous nucleation site to reduce the decomposition activation energy barrier of LiBH 4 and shortens the distance of the solid–liquid phase boundary movement of LiBH 4 decomposition.

Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 , CN) is promising in boosting H 2 O 2 photosynthesis at present, but facing huge challenges due to the limitations of common CN (e.g. small specific surface area, low absorption coefficient, and fast recombination of photoinduced carriers). To overcome these drawbacks, herein, the novel type-II heterojunctions are successfully constructed from hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN, abbreviated as BN), melamine, and KCl with the one-pot calcination method. The molten salt effect of KCl and the hard template effect of BN optimize the interlayer spacing, porosity and structural uniformity of CN, thus optimizing the adsorption and photocatalytic properties. Moreover, the constructed heterostructure between BN and modified CN further favors the photoinduced charge transfer. Hence, the resulting composites afford exciting photocatalytic H 2 O 2 synthesis performance. Particularly, catalyzed by MCN/BN-2, the H 2 O 2 production rate is separately 1515.05 μmol g −1 h −1 and 3382.17 μmol g −1 h −1 irradiated by visible light and the simulated solar light, which are significantly higher than those over MCN, BN, and most of CN-based materials previously reported. The results of band potential analyses, relevant radical scavenging experiments, as well as electron paramagnetic resonance measurements verify that the photocatalytic H 2 O 2 production over MCN/BN-2 by using 10 vol% EtOH solution is predominantly through the two-step single-electron oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) process. Also, the one-step two-electron ORR involves in H 2 O 2 formation. This work not only develops a novel broad-spectrum responsive metal-free photocatalyst, but also enriches the deep understanding of the roles played by molten salt engineering and heterostructure in photocatalysis.

In this study, hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) - polyetherimide (PEI) composites were prepared by a simple solution casting method, where the h-BN particles were aligned by an external magnetic field. Prior to the preparation of the composite samples, the h-BN platelets were firstly decorated by iron oxide nanoparticles (Fe 3 O 4 ) to achieve the desired magnetic properties . Due to the alignment of h-BN particles, the composite exhibited greatly enhanced thermal conductivity along that direction. At a filler loading of 20 wt%, an enhancement of 166% was obtained, compared to that of the unaligned composite. Furthermore, the composite samples showed a low dielectric loss (~ 0.01) with the filling ratio below 20 wt% and a tensile modulus of up to 2.34 GPa. Bearing such thermal conductivity , electrical insulation properties, and mechanical properties , these composites with magnetically aligned h-BN particles show potentials for microelectronic packaging applications.

Solar salt is the most commonly used medium for thermal storage and transfer in concentrated solar power (CSP) plants, and the utilization efficiency of solar energy is depended on the thermal properties of solar salt. In this work, atomic-layer-thick hexagonal boron nitride nanosheet (BNNSs, so called white graphene) were obtained and dispersed into solar salt uniformly to produce composites nanofluids . Attributed to the ultra-high thermal conductivity and a large specific surface area of BNNSs, which reduce the thermal resistance , and facilitate forming of more semi-solid boundary layer and nucleation sites , the as-prepared composites nanofluids show superior thermal properties. The properties enhancement mechanism and effects of the mass fraction of BNNSs on the thermal properties of nanofluids was investigated carefully. Compared with the pure solar salt, the solid-phase thermal conductivity , solid-phase and liquid-phase specific heat capacity was elevated by 76.79%, 29.8% and 12.82%, respectively. At the same time, the supercooling degree was significantly decreased from 12.2 °C to 4.7 °C. The enhanced thermal conductivity and specific heat capacity offer significant cost savings, and the reduced supercooling degree prevent phase separation and pipe blockage. Thus, the developed composites nanofluids can be used as a superior medium for CSP plants.

Traditional single-function composite materials cannot meet the developing requirements in modern electronics. To build a three-dimensional (3D) skeleton is an efficient solution for multifunctional composites. However, it is a challenge for polymeric composites to provide thermal conductivity and electromagnetic shielding while maintaining good mechanical properties. Herein, we propose an oriented 3D hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN)/multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) skeleton structure with thermal conduction and electromagnetic shielding pathways by using ice template and carbonization method, in which the h-BN was connected with MWCNT and cellulose nanofiber (CNF), and the hydrolyzedmethyltrimethoxy silane (MTMS) was added to reinforce the structure. When MWCNT is 1.5 wt% and h-BN is 5.7 wt%, the electromagnetic shielding efficiency (EMI SE) reaches 48 dB, the absorption parameter (A) is more than 50%, and the out-of-plane thermal conductivity (TC) is 1.17 W/m·K. Compared with the randomly distributed BN/MWCNT composite at same filling rate, the electromagnetic shielding of 3D BN/MWCNT skeleton structure is 639.6% high than that of randomly distributed BN/MWCNT composite, and the thermal conductivity increased by 290%. Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) results indicated that the storage modulus increased by 48%, and Tg shifted 10 ℃ higher than pure epoxy, which enhances the mechanical properties of the composites. This study provides a valuable guidance for preparing composite with high thermal conductivities, high mechanical properties and satisfactory EMI SE, which showed great potential as the next-generation high-performance EMI shielding materials.

Microwave devices with reduced dielectric loss and electronic components with increased integration density necessitate the higher performance of electronic packaging materials. The h-BN/AlN/CaCO 3 -MgO-B 2 O 3 -SiO 2 -Li 2 CO 3 glass composites were prepared via tape-casting and then sintered by pressureless and hot-pressing, respectively. The thermal conductivity of pressureless sintered composite was increased to 6.55 W/(m·K) by incorporating 3 wt% h-BN, and the thermal expansion of 4.47 ppm/K was achieved along with low dielectric constant of 5.76 and dielectric loss of 7.02 × 10 −4 at 24 GHz. In contrast, the hot-pressing sintered composite containing 4 wt% h-BN exhibited higher thermal conductivity of 10.3 W/(m·K) and lower dielectric loss of 4.77 × 10 −4 . The microstructure characterization indicated the construction of heat conduction networks, and XRD analysis illustrated the formation of crystallization in the glass. Such low-temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) with high thermal conductivity and low dielectric loss would be a promising candidate for electronic packaging and 5G communication applications.

As electronic device integration and power density increase, materials must have brilliant microwave absorption properties and thermal conductivity to solve electromagnetic wave pollution and thermal management problems. In this work, we attempt to construct core-shell hydroxylated boron nitride nanosheets (BN-OH) @Fe 3 O 4 @PAn (BFeA) nanocomposites by chemical synthesis and in-situ growth design. The excellent magnetic properties of Fe 3 O 4 and the good electrical conductivity of PAn can form magnetic loss and electrical loss centers to play a synergistic effect in improving microwave absorption capacity. Meanwhile, with the wave-transmitting material BN-OH as the core, the electromagnetic waves can be reflected multiple times within the absorber, which further enhances the microwave absorption capability of BFeA. As a result, the minimum reflection loss (RL min ) of the composites can reach − 49.85 dB at 11.36 GHz, and the effective microwave absorption bandwidth (RL<−10 dB, EAB) is close to 8 GHz (8.5–16.5 GHz) at a thickness of 3 mm. Simultaneously, to improve the thermal conductivity (TC) of the BFeA and reduce the interfacial thermal resistance, we use hydroxyl and dopamine as the interface linking agent at the interfaces of BN-OH and Fe 3 O 4 , and Fe 3 O 4 and PAn, respectively. In this case, the TC of BFeA-2 reaches 0.98 W (m K) −1 at a total BN–OH content of only 13 wt. %, nearly 4 times that of the raw material (Fe 3 O 4 ). This work can provide a reference for developing materials with dual functions of thermal management and microwave absorption.
