Two-dimensional (2D) membrane with ultrahigh permeability and precise sieving performance is highly desired. Herein, we have constructed a Janus composite membrane, which is integrated with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and oxidized carbon spheres (OCS) modified with polyetherimide (PEI), through an interfacial self-assembly process. The designed Janus CNTs/OCS@PEI composite membrane has asymmetric micromorphology and wettability. The hydrophobic side is functioned as an active layer to inhibit concentration polarization during separation process. The superhydrophilic side can allow partial CNTs to stretch into its interior and form an interpenetrating network, which can weaken the Laplace pressure arising from the hydrophobic side. Hence, this membrane has the ability to reject various dye molecules, such as congo red (permeance flux of 3110.2 ± 285 L m −2 h −1 bar −1 and efficiency about 98.8%), which has transcended the majority of the separation membranes previously reported. Furthermore, this membrane can withstand physical damage and chemical corrosion that has presented stable rejection performance for dye molecules. This intriguing work would open the door to developing novel Janus materials to satisfy the water resources requirements of real-world applications.

The rational design and preparation of nonprecious metal-based oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalysts to facilitate electron and mass transport are of great significance in oxygen-involved energy applications. Herein, a stepwise approach to synthesize a type of hierarchically porous N -doped carbon nanotubes (CNTs) grafted onto zinc-based coordination polymer derived carbon nanomaterials (M−NCNT, M = Fe/Co/Ni) is proposed. At first, an isostructural zinc-based metal–organic framework (MOF) to HKUST-1(Cu) ( ZnHKUST-1 ) is solvothermally prepared, and then under pyrolysis to obtain MOF-derived porous carbon. After the secondary calcination, the in-situ formed N -doped CNTs are efficiently catalyzed by iron group metal-based nanoparticles (Fe/Co/Ni), which are thermally reduced by porous carbon together with additional urea. The synergistic effect between ultrahigh porosity, large surface area, suitable N -doping, high graphitization degree, and ultrafine metal particles prompts M−NCNT series to exhibit satisfactory electrocatalysis in oxygen reduction. Among them, Fe-NCNT owns the optimal ORR activity with high positive onset potential (0.987 V), half-wave potential (0.860 V) and large diffusion-limited current density (4.893 mA cm −2 ). Meanwhile, it shows a high current retention of 90.7% after the 24-hour stability, and the obtained Zn-air battery by Fe-NCNT with open-circuit voltage of 1.44 V owns moderate capacity and satisfying stability. The demonstrated method to prepare hierarchically porous N -doped carbon nanomaterials stemmed from MOF precursors unfolds a new route for the facile construction of efficient nanocatalysts for advanced energy applications.

It is still challengeable to develop low-cost metal-based photocatalysts with high efficiency and stability for organic pollutant degradation. Herein, we propose a novel “interfacial engineering and suitable band gap matching” strategy to synthesize hexagonal SnSe nanoplate supported SnO 2 -CNTs for highly efficient photocatalytic activity. The CNTs-SnO 2 /SnSe, constructed by SnO 2 nanoparticles homogeneously embedded in carbon nanotube surface, which is anchored on hexagonally crystalline SnSe nanoplates, is synthesized by a facile low-cost and eco-friendly one-pot solvothermal reaction. Compared to SnO 2 , SnSe, CNTs-SnO 2, SnO 2 /SnSe, the CNTs-SnO 2 /SnSe delivers significant performance, enhancement in photocatalytic degradation for aqueous organic dye pollutant under visible light irradiation in 60 min. The k value of CNTs-SnO 2 /SnSe is over 2.2 times larger than CNTs-SnO 2 , SnO 2 and SnSe. The remarkably enhanced photodegradation performance of CNTs-SnO 2 /SnSe is mainly attributed to its unique nanoarchitecture, high surface area and band gap matching: the CNTs skeleton can facilitate the electron transfer; band gap diagram of CNTs-SnO 2 /SnSe is beneficial to efficient electron-hole charge separation and recombination of electron-hole pair can be effectively suppressed. This work presents a rational catalyst design with nanoarchitecture and band gap matching, and a facile one-pot synthesis strategy to synthesize low-cost photocatalysts for dye pollutant degradation with prominent high-efficiency and long-term stability.

Bamboo-like porous carbon nanotubes (CNTs) encapsulated Zn 3 V 3 O 8 nanoparticles with high filling uniformity were synthesized for the first time using polymer nanotubes as the carbon source through a simple encapsulation–calcination strategy. The porous CNTs are a good encapsulation matrix for the Zn 3 V 3 O 8 nanoparticles because of large internal cavity, good electrical conductivity , high surface area and high flexibility. As anodes for lithium ion batteries , this composite exhibits excellent capacity (1013.1 mA h g −1 at 200 mA g −1 ), good rate capability (329.3 mA h g −1 at 8000 mA g −1 ) and cycling stability (470.5 mA h g −1 after 300 cycles at 3000 mA g −1 ). The one-dimensional encapsulation matrix of CNTs in the composites with a unique structure provides high conductivity, prevents the exfoliation of Zn 3 V 3 O 8 nanoparticles and accommodates the volume changes. Besides, the composite electrode has a multistage pore structure , which can shorten the transmission distance of Li + ions and electrons. As a result, the encapsulated nanocomposite shows excellent performances.

Coupling Co-Ni bimetallic oxides with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) is recognized an effective strategy to enhance the performance of supercapacitors. In this work, porous Ni x Co 3−x O 4 /CNTs nanocomposites are prepared through in situ growth of ZIF-67 precursor onto CNTs followed by subsequent annealing. The obtained Ni x Co 3−x O 4 /CNTs combine the promising high storage performance of porous Ni x Co 3−x O 4 with the excellent conductivity of CNTs. When test in three-electrode system, the electrode materials exhibit a high specific capacitance of 668 F/g at 1 A g −1 , a good rate capability of 91.60% retention from 1 to 10 A g −1 and good cycling stability of 91.20% retention after 3500 cycles in 2.0 M KOH electrolyte. Furthermore, the Ni x Co 3−x O 4 /CNTs are tested in two-electrode configuration, showing a high energy density of 23.56 Wh kg −1 at power density of 800.15 W kg −1 and outstanding cycling stability of 93.75% retention after 3000 cycles. The excellent electrochemical performance of the designed nanomaterials can be ascribed to the synergy between the CNTs and Ni x Co 3−x O 4 .

CNTs–C@TiO 2 composite with 3D networks as electrode has been synthesized for lithium ion batteries (LIBs)/sodium ion batteries (SIBs) by a traditional solvothermal process. The composites were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, field emission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The continuous 3D conductive networks, which consisted of acid-treated CNTs, provided numerous attachment sites for TiO 2 particles and carbon layers (similar to a shell) produced by the Ti 4+ -induced polymerization of ethylene glycol, thereby promoting electron and ion transfer. The composites contained 10.09 wt% CNTs (excellent conductor) and 12.75 wt% pyrolytic carbon. The Raman spectra confirmed the high degree of graphitization of the composites, and the improved conductivity resulted in outstanding electrochemical behavior. The electrochemical performance in the Li + /Na + storage of CNTs–C@TiO 2 composites was greatly enhanced, as revealed by this material’s outstanding capacity of 205 mA h g −1 at a current density of 0.1 A g −1 after 200 scanning cycles for LIBs and 148 mA h g −1 at 0.1 A g −1 over 100 cycles for SIBs.

A novel MnO@Amorphous C-Carbon nanotubes (MnO@C-CNTs) composite is prepared by chemical vapor deposition (CVD). When used as an anode material for Li-ion batteries, the MnO@C-CNTs composite exhibits an initial discharge capacity of 1164 mA h g −1 at 100 mA g −1 and the discharge capacity gradually increased from 571.7 mA h g −1 to 654 mA h g −1 after 100 cycles at 1 A g −1 , which shows an increase of the capacity rather than attenuation. Furthermore, the MnO@C-CNTs electrode can deliver a capacity of up to 228 mA h g −1 at 5 A g −1 . These results indicate that the three-dimensional conductive network of the MnO@C-CNTs composite could prevent the aggregation of MnO particles, and its open structure allows electrolyte penetration, and reduces the diffusion path of the lithium ions , hence maximizes utilization of the electrochemically active MnO particles, while enhances the conductivity of electrode material and Li + transport. This work offers a universal approach to design various metal oxides@C-CNTs composite.

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) supported Pd catalysts (1 wt% and 5 wt%) were prepared by a conventional impregnation method and tested in liquid-phase hydrodechlorination (HDC) of para-chlorophenol (p-CP) under mild conditions (313 K and atmospheric pressure) with H2. CNTs as a catalyst support offered better performance than activated carbon (AC). The conversion of p-CP reached 72% and 82% over 5 wt% Pd/AC and 5 wt% Pd/CNTs, respectively, within 30 min. When the content of Pd was reduced to 1 wt%, the conversion of p-CP over Pd/AC and Pd/CNTs was 55% and 83%, respectively. The mechanism of this phenomenon was studied through catalyst characterization (XRD, TEM, and BET). The abovementioned results indicated that the different activities of the catalysts over different supports mainly resulted from the porous structure of the supports and nanoparticle diameters of the active metal.

Ni(OH) 2 /CNTs/Ni(OH) 2 lamellar-crossing-nanostructure with a single lamellar spacing of ∼5 nm was effectively constructed through two-phase-interface reaction process followed by the CNTs crossed among the lamellar-nanostructured Ni(OH) 2 . The resultant nanocomposite can offer large active surface areas and short diffusion paths for electrons and ions, and is investigated as a potential pseudocapacitor electrode material for electrochemical energy storage applications. Electrochemical data demonstrate that the as-prepared nanocomposite exhibits a high specific capacitance of ∼1600 F g −1 at the scan rate of 1 mV s −1 in 6 M KOH solution at normal pressure and temperature, which is great higher than Ni(OH) 2 (∼1200 F g −1 ). Furthermore, Ni(OH) 2 /CNTs/Ni(OH) 2 nanocomposite shows a higher energy density (∼125 Wh kg −1 , 2 A g −1 ) and has a slightly decrease of 5% in specific capacitance after 1000 continuous charge/discharge cycles.

The rapid development of wearable electronics has driven demand for flexible, multifunctional fiber-based materials that can enable real-time physiological monitoring and adaptive responses. We report the design and fabrication of a core-sheath structured, dual-responsive fiber sensor featuring a conductive core and a thermochromic sheath via coaxial wet-spinning. The core comprises a conductive styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene/carbon nanotubes-Ti 3 C 2 T x (SEBS/CNTs-Ti 3 C 2 T x ) composite optimized for strain sensing, while the sheath incorporates thermochromic microcapsules (TMs) within a SEBS matrix for temperature sensitivity. This integrated architecture enables simultaneous and independent detection of mechanical deformation and thermal variation, which demonstrates sharp and reversible color transitions within a 25–40 °C range, offering visual feedback to physiological temperatures. Furthermore, the conductive CNTs-Ti 3 C 2 T x hybrid network within the core facilitates sensitive strain-resistance behavior, with a maximum gauge factor of 214 at 100 % strain and reliable electromechanical performance over 3000 cycles. When applied to joints and vital regions (e.g., wrist, throat, knees), the fibers provide stable and high-fidelity signals during motion, pulse detection, and vocalization. Collectively, the integrated mechanical compliance, thermal responsiveness, and strain-sensing capacity position these fibers as promising candidates for next-generation wearable electronic systems, enabling smart diagnostics, physiological monitoring, and adaptive interfacing.

CsPb(Cl/Br) 3 perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) materials were synthesized by a hot injection method. To enhance the stability of the perovskite , CsPb(Cl/Br) 3 - multiwalled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) composites were synthesized by the insitu growth method. First, the successful composite of CNTs and perovskite has been proved by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). After CsPb(Cl/Br) 3 NCs have grew on CNTs, the exciton lifetime decays from 8.2 ns to 4.5 ns, suggesting the presence of an additional electron transfer pathway between CNTs and CsPb(Cl/Br) 3 NCs. The photoluminescence (PL) properties of perovskite NCs and CsPb(Cl/Br) 3 -CNTs were evaluated using temperature-dependent PL spectroscopy . The exciton binding energy of the CsPb(Cl/Br) 3 -CNTs composites (59.28 meV) is higher than that of the CsPb(Cl/Br) 3 NCs (51.79 meV), indicating a more stable exciton state within the CsPb(Cl/Br) 3 -CNTs structure. The PL stability experimental results reveal a notable enhancement in the stability of CsPb(Cl/Br) 3 -CNTs composites compared to CsPb(Cl/Br) 3 NCs. In addition, electrochemical tests of CsPb(Cl/Br) 3 -CNTs show a low resistance to charge transfer ( R ct ) alongside a favorable photocurrent response. This work has proved that the novel CsPb(Cl/Br) 3 -CNTs composites not only exhibit outstanding moisture and UV resistance but also demonstrate remarkable potential optoelectronic device applications.

The main challenges in development of traditional liquid lithium-sulfur batteries are the shuttle effect at the cathode caused by the polysulfide and the safety concern at the Li metal anode arose from the dendrite formation. All-solid-state lithium-sulfur batteries have been proposed to solve the shuttle effect and prevent short circuits. However, solid-solid contacts between the electrodes and the electrolyte increase the interface resistance and stress/strain, which could result in the limited electrochemical performances. In this work, the cathode of all-solid-state lithium-sulfur batteries is prepared by depositing sulfur on the surface of the carbon nanotubes (CNTs@S) and further mixing with Li 10 GeP 2 S 12 electrolyte and acetylene black agents. At 60 °C, CNTs@S electrode exhibits superior electrochemical performance, delivering the reversible discharge capacities of 1193.3, 959.5, 813.1, 569.6 and 395.5 mAh g −1 at the rate of 0.1, 0.5, 1, 2 and 5 C, respectively. Moreover, the CNTs@S is able to demonstrate superior high-rate capability of 660.3 mAh g −1 and cycling stability of 400 cycles at a high rate of 1.0 C. Such uniform distribution of the CNTs, S and Li 10 GeP 2 S 12 electrolyte increase the electronic and ionic conductivity between the cathode and the electrolyte hence improves the rate performance and capacity retention.
