The catalytic performance of Pd-N/Silicon Dioxide/Cordierite (Pd-N/SD/C) ( N = Ga and Ag) bimetallic monolithic catalysts for 2-ethylanthraquinone (eAQ) hydrogenation was investigated. Catalyst characterization by HRTEM, XPS, and TPR reveal that Pd-Ga/SD/C can form an alloy structure to produce significant synergetic effects. Moreover, the use of different Pd/Ga mass ratio in catalysts reveals that when the mass ratio of Pd and Ga/Ag = 2:1, Pd-Ga/SD/C obtains the highest yield of H 2 O 2 and selectivity toward active quinones, which can reach 7.4 g L −1 and 90%. Moreover, to have a deep understanding of the eAQ-PdN(1 1 1) or eAQ-Pd(1 1 1) interaction mechanism, the calculation of eAQ adsorption on Pd-N/SD/C catalysts surface was performed by density functional theory (DFT). It is shown that the higher catalytic activity over Pd-Ga/SD/C is due to the stronger carbonyl group of eAQ adsorption on Pd 3 Ga 1 (1 1 1).

Desalinating seawater is a crucial method for addressing the shortage of freshwater resources. High-efficiency, low-cost, and environmentally friendly desalination technologies are key issues that urgently need to be addressed. This work usedPopulus tomentosa Carr.as a matrix material and preparedPopulus tomentosa Carr.@Fe-GA through a complexation reaction to enhance the water evaporation rate and photothermal conversion efficiency of seawater desalination. The concentration of the impregnation solution was further refined, and the bonding mechanism along with the thermal stability of the composite photothermal material was investigated, including an assessment of their photothermal conversion efficiency. The research results indicate that the evaporation rate of water in a 3.5% NaCl solution forPopulus tomentosa Carr.@Fe-GA under light intensity conditions of one sun reached 1.72 kg·m−2·h−1, which was an increase of 44.5% compared to untreatedPopulus tomentosa Carr.It achieved a photothermal conversion efficiency of 95.1%, an improvement of 53.6% over untreatedPopulus tomentosa Carr., and maintained stability and high evaporation performance (95.4%) even after prolonged rinsing. This work realizes the functional utilization of seawater desalination withPopulus tomentosa Carr.and offers a novel approach for the development and use of wood-derived photothermal material.

Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) could form stable complexes with toxic metals such as nickel due to its strong chelation. The three-dimensional (3D) macroporous graphene aerogels (GA), which was in-situ assembled by reduced graphene oxide (rGO) sheets on titanium wire as binder-free electrode, was presented as cathode for the degradation of EDTA-Ni in Electro-Fenton process. The X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) results indicated 3D GA formed three dimensional architecture with large and homogenous macropore structure and surface area. Cyclic Voltammetry (CV), Linear Sweep Voltammetry (LSV) and Rotating Ring-disk Electrode (RRDE) results showed that the 3D GA cathode at pH 3 displayed the highest current density and electrochemical active surface area (ECSA), and better two-electron selectivity for ORR than other pH value, confirming the 3D-GA cathode at pH 3 has the highest electrocatalytic activity and generates more H 2 O 2 . The factors such as pH, applied current density, concentration of Fe 2+ , Na 2 SO 4, and aeration rates of air were also investigated. Under the optimum conditions, 73.5% of EDTA-Ni was degraded after reaction for 2 h. Mechanism analysis indicated that the production of OH on the 3D GA cathode played an important role in the removal of EDTA-Ni in the 3D GA-EF process, where the direct regeneration of Fe 2+ on the cathode would greatly reduce the consumption of H 2 O 2 . Therefore, it is of great promise for 3D-GA catalyst to be developed as highly efficient, cost-effective and durable cathode for the removal of EDTA-Ni.

In this paper, efficient, economical and environmentally friendly mesoporous silica microspheres (MSMs) were prepared for the first time by reversed-phase suspension-dispersion method using water glass and acetic acid as raw materials. MSMs had excellent sphericity, with particle size concentrated at 100 µm, specific surface area of 207.90 m 2 /g and pore volume of 0.47 cm 3 /g. Adsorption equilibrium of Ga(III) by MSMs was reached in 30 min on 30 ppm GaCl 3 with dosage of 2 g/L and pH = 3, conforming to the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The adsorption isotherm showed that the adsorption of Ga(III) by MSMs is endothermic process with saturation adsorption of 83.47 mg/g at 328 K. The K d of MSMs for Ga(III) was above 8000 in three multivariate systems of zinc ore leaching residues, fly ash and e-waste, showing excellent selectivity. The desorption equilibrium of 78.44 % was reached at 2 mol/L H 2 SO 4 for 120 min, and the adsorption rate of Ga(III) on MSMs was still exceeded 90 % after five adsorption–desorption cycles, showing that MSMs have excellent cycling performance. The fixed-bed column experiments showed the efficient separation and enrichment performance of MSMs for Ga(III) in simulated leachate. The adsorption process in MSMs is synergistic interaction is between physical adsorption and ion-exchange, with ion-exchange being the main mechanism. This provides a new approach to address the issues of poor adsorption capacity and slow adsorption–desorption rate faced by adsorbents for the highly selective recover of Ga(III) from zinc ore leaching residues, fly ash and e-waste, which is potentially promising for application.

Antibiotics, widely used to treat bacterial infections and as agricultural feed additives, pose significant environmental threats due to their persistence, particularly sulfamethoxazole (SMX), which is frequently detected in various ecosystems. Traditional wastewater treatment methods are often ineffective in their removal. This study presents a cost-effective three-dimensional CCF@MoS 2 @GA-Fe (CMGF) catalyst, with cotton fabric as a support to enhance peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation in advanced oxidation processes (AOPs). Findings indicates that Mo(IV) active sites in CMGF significantly enhanced electron transfer and redox cycling of Fe(II)/Fe(III), ensuring sustained PMS activation and achieving approximately 3.8 times higher degradation efficiency compared to non-catalytic processes. After five cycles, CMGF retains its high catalytic activity. Key active species during PMS activation include singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ), hydroxyl radicals (•OH), and sulfate radicals (SO 4 − •). This research elucidates the catalytic mechanisms and degradation pathways of the CMGF/PMS system, highlighting its potential for removing organic pollutants from water.

The development of new electrochemical sensitizing materials is crucial for rapid detection technology. In this study, gallium-doped carbon quantum dots (Ga@CQDs) were synthesized using a one-pot hydrothermal approach to serve as coreactant for luminol. A molecular-imprinted electroluminescence sensor was prepared for rapid, sensitive cypermethrin (CYP) detection using in-situ electrodeposition. Ga doping reduces CQDs' band gap, boosts conductivity and catalysis, and enhances luminol's ECL signal. The advancement in molecular imprinting technology significantly enhances the sensor's ability to selectively detect CYP, while also providing robust interference resistance. The ECL intensity of the sensor correlated linearly with CYP concentration (0.05–100 μM) under optimal conditions (R 2 = 0.9912, LOD= 0.03 μM). In practical applications, recovery rates of water and aquatic product samples ranged from 86.4 % to 98.0 %, with RSD that did not exceed 8.13 %. A Ga@CQDs-based luminol sensitizing system for molecularly imprinted electrochemical sensors provides a solution for fast, sensitive CYP detection in environmental and aquatic products.

The HZSM-5 zeolite was modified through alkali treatment (NaOH) and metal loading (Ga, Ni), followed by constructing an MCM-41 layer to create a core–shell molecular sieve catalyst. With the feedstock of wheat straw, this work investigated the effects of various catalysts on pyrolysis product distribution and bio-oil composition with a tubular furnace and Py-GC/MS. The results showed that with the alkali-treated HZSM-5, the yield of monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (MAHs) in the bio-oil reached 40.35%, with an overall bio-oil yield of 21.16%. Metal-modified zeolites, exhibiting enhanced acidity, further optimized the bio-oil composition, producing an MAH yield of 61.48% and 27.31% bio-oil yield. Bimetal loading with Ga and Ni further enhanced MAH selectivity, delivering an MAH yield of 69.48% and a bio-oil yield of 27.79%. The synergy between Ga and Ni suppressed excessive aromatization and polymerization into polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), favouring MAH formation. Constructing an MCM-41 layer further promotes the selectivity of MAHs. Compared to uncoated catalysts, those coated with MCM-41 significantly improved monocyclic aromatic yields, achieving the highest MAH yield of 83.61%.

Improving the catalytic efficiency and catalyst life of Pt/Al 2 O 3 catalyst for methylcyclohexane dehydrogenation is of great significance for the study of organic liquid hydrogen storage. In this work, the promotion effects of Ga and Ce on the substantial improvement of catalytic stability and activity over the Pt / Al 2 O 3 during the methylcyclohexane dehydrogenation were investigated. The catalyst with optimizing Ga and Ce loading (1.5 wt%) exhibits ∼99.76 % selectivity and H 2 evolution rate of 2102 mol/g Pt /min at 300 °C. In 100 h long-time reaction, the conversion of methylcyclohexane remains around 75 % with no significant decrease. The characterization results show that introducing proper amount of Ga and Ce helps Ga 3+ cations incorporate into the lattice structure of CeO 2 that increase concentration of oxygen vacancies and CeO 2 reducibility in the catalyst, which boost the capability of methylcyclohexane dehydrogenation and tolerance for coke formation. Thus, the excellent stability and activity are achieved over the GaCe-modified catalyst. This study may share new light on the rational construction of highly efficient Pt-based catalysts for methylcyclohexane dehydrogenation.

Large bone defects face a high risk of infection, which can also lead to bone homeostasis disorders. This seriously hinders the bone healing process; therefore, the help of a dual-functional scaffold that has both anti-infection and bone-homeostasis-regulating capacities is needed in the treatment of infected bone defects. In this study, a 3D printed dual-functional scaffold composed of poly-ε-caprolactone (PCL), mesoporous bioactive glasses (MBG), and gallium (Ga) was produced. In vitro experiments demonstrated the excellent antibacterial ability of the PCL/MBG/Ga scaffold against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Escherichia coli (E. coli). The scaffold also significantly inhibited osteoclastic activity and promoted osteogenic differentiation. Furthermore, a rabbit model with an infected bone defect in the radius was used to evaluate the in vivo bone healing capability of PCL/MBG/Ga. The results demonstrate that the PCL/MBG/Ga scaffold can significantly accelerate bone healing and prevent bone resorption, suggesting its potential for application in repairing infected bone defects.

The development of efficient catalysts for the selective hydrogenation of dimethyl oxalate (DMO) to high-value oxygenates is of great industrial importance. This study presents a systematic investigation into the promotional effect of gallium (Ga) on Cu/SiO 2 catalysts for tailoring product selectivity in DMO hydrogenation. A series of Ga x Cu 30 /SiO 2 catalysts with varying Ga loadings (x = 0.5, 1, 3 wt%) were synthesized via the ammonia evaporation method. With a moderate Ga doping of 0.5 wt%, the Ga 0.5 Cu 30 /SiO 2 catalyst achieved an exceptional ethylene glycol (EG) yield of 74 %, which is three times higher than its Ga-free counterpart (23 %). Further increases in Ga loading to 1 and 3 wt% redirected the reaction pathway, steering the selectivity towards ethanol (ET, 81 %) and 2-methoxyethanol (MT, 54 %), respectively. Characterization by N 2 O titration, XRD, XPS, in situ FT-IR and H 2 -TPR revealed that Ga incorporation fine-tunes the synergy between metallic Cu 0 (for H 2 dissociation) and Cu + sites (for C=O bond polarization). Concurrently, the generated surface acid sites facilitate subsequent dehydration and hydrogenolysis steps. Consequently, the catalytic performance is directly correlated with the evolution of Cu valence states and surface acidity. This work provides a rational strategy for designing multifunctional catalysts for the selective synthesis of target chemicals from DMO.

In this study, the focus revolves around the synthesis, characterization, and subsequent evaluation of CuMM’O 4 (M, M’ = Al, Ga, In) photoelectrocatalysts, notable for their distinct spinel- and delafossite-like structures. These novel materials are derived from a pseudobinary CuMO 2 -based solid solution. Specifically, the delafossite-like CuAlInO 4 and CuGaInO 4 manifest a trigonal superstructure within the R 3 ‾ m space group, defined by structural motifs comprising [InO 6 ] octahedra, [CuO 5 ] hexahedra, and [AlO 5 ] or [GaO 5 ] hexahedra. This study spans a comprehensive analysis encompassing optical properties, electrical characteristics, electronic structure, and the ensuing photoelectrochemical performancer. This exploration integrates experimental analyses and density functional theory calculations to discern the intricacies of these materials. The assessed CuMM’O 4 samples display favorable optical traits and band-edge positions conducive to facilitating visible-light-driven photoelectrochemical water-splitting. Among the evaluated samples, the delafossite-like CuGaInO 4 photocathode stands out due to its notably elevated carrier density and reduced resistance for carrier transport, distinguishing it from CuAlGaO 4 and CuAlInO 4 . Consequently, it exhibits superior photoelectrochemical activity. CuGaInO 4 , serving as an unadorned photocathode, demonstrates a noteworthy photocurrent density of 8.6 μA/cm 2 under 0.61V RHE and 102.05 μA/cm 2 at 0.15 V RHE . Moreover, it achieves a peak incident photon-to-current efficiency of approximately 1.86 % at 0.61 V RHE under a 480 nm wavelength.

I–III–VI quantum dots (QDs) and derivatives (I, III, and VI are Ag+/Cu+, Ga3+/In3+, and S2–/Se2–, respectively) are the ideal candidates to replace II–VI (e.g., CdSe) and perovskite QDs due to their nontoxicity, pure color, high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY), and full visible coverage. However, the chaotic cation alignment in multielement systems can easily lead to the formation of multiple surface vacancies, highlighted as VI and VVI, leading to nonradiative recombination and nonequilibrium carrier distribution, which severely limit the performance improvement of materials and devices. Here, based on Zn–Ag–In–Ga–S QDs, we construct an ultrathin indium sulfide shell that can passivate electron vacancies and convert donor/acceptor level concentrations. The optimized In-rich 2-layer indium sulfide structure not only enhances the radiative recombination rate by preventing further VS formation but also achieves the typical DAP emission enhancement, achieving a significant increase in PLQY to 86.2% at 628 nm. Moreover, the optimized structure can mitigate the lattice distortion and make the carrier distribution in the interior of the QDs more balanced. On this basis, red QD light-emitting diodes (QLEDs) with the highest external quantum efficiency (EQE; 5.32%) to date were obtained, providing a novel scheme for improving I–III–VI QD-based QLED efficiency.
