Black TiO2 and metal–organic frameworks (MOF) are great materials with light-harvesting ability, redox power and consequently catalytic activity. Here, the integration of MIL-100(Fe) with TiO2(B) composite was designed for photocatalytic application, which greatly promoted light-harvesting and charge transfer. As expected, the integrated TiO2(B)/MIL-100(Fe) composite showed high photocatalytic activity due to unique Fe–O–Ti bonds that were constructed, which acted as an electronic tunnel to reduce electronic transfer resistance between MIL-100(Fe) and TiO2(B). In addition, the presence of Fe–O clusters in MIL-100(Fe) can also promote the charge dissociation and improve catalytic activity via the Fe3+/Fe2+ redox cycle. This achievement would help us to understand and design charge transfer pathways in the integration of MOF/semiconductor photocatalysts.

The treatment of livestock wastewater is a major environmental challenge due to the presence of antibiotics from animal excreta, which may pass through conventional biological oxidation treatment and pose a threat to public health. Electro-oxidation method presents an opportunity to remove antibiotics in the livestock wastewater at the source of generation, and titanium-based IrO 2 anode has been shown to have excellent electro-catalytic activity and stability. However, the soaring price of iridium limits the practical application. In this work, we showed that W, Ti-doped IrO 2 anodes largely preserved the electro-catalytic activity while reducing the cost of electrode fabrication. The prepared Ti/Sb-SnO 2 /(Ir 0.6 W 0.2 Ti 0.2 )O x anode was shown to achieve 94 % conversion of sulfadiazine in 1 min and 100 % conversion in 15 min. Additionally, complete removal of chemical oxygen demand (COD 0 = 700–800 mg/L) was achieved in 1–3 h of electrolysis at 40 mA/cm 2 . Chlorine-mediated oxidation was demonstrated to be the main mechanism for organic contaminant degradation. The COD removal during galvanostatic electrolysis exhibited zero-order kinetics, indicating that the reaction rate was controlled by the heterogeneous reaction at the anode surface. In the stability test, >95 % COD removal was maintained after 5 cycles of electro-oxidation experiments. The accelerated life of the anode was tested to be 352 h (1000 mA/cm 2 , 1 M H 2 SO 4 electrolyte, 60 °C).

The alkylation of benzene with cyclohexene provides a direct and atom-efficient route to cyclohexylbenzene (CHB), a key intermediate for advanced chemical manufacturing. The role of Lewis acid sites (LAS) in homogeneous alkylation is well established; however, their function and synergy with Brønsted acid sites (BAS) in solid acid catalysts remain elusive. Herein, we proposed a dual-acid-site engineering strategy to construct titanium-incorporated β zeolites (Hβ-at-x) via sequential dealumination and titanation. Structural and spectroscopic characterizations confirmed that Ti was anchored in silanol nests, generating electron-deficient Ti-LAS while tuning the Al-BAS to establish synergetic dual-acid-site. It was demonstrated that Ti-modified Al-BAS facilitated the protonation of cyclohexene, and benzene was adsorbed and enriched on Ti-LAS via π-complexation adjacent to BAS. The optimized Hβ-at-50 catalyst achieved complete cyclohexene conversion, even under the currently lowest benzene-to-cyclohexene volume ratio of 7:1. Furthermore, it demonstrated a significantly enhanced CHB formation rate of 18.6 mmolCHB·gcat–1·h–1, surpassing that of the parent Hβ catalyst (2.98 mmolCHB·gcat–1·h–1) and the Hβ-at catalyst (2.29 mmolCHB·gcat–1·h–1). The superior activity was corroborated by a reduced apparent activation energy (Ea = 35.1 kJ·mol–1) compared to the parent Hβ catalyst (Ea = 57.3 kJ·mol–1). The catalytic stability decreased during cycling due to the light olefin polymerization, and its activity could be fully restored via thermal treatment. This work provides mechanistic insight into dual-site catalysis and a design framework for high-performance zeolite catalysts for hydrocarbon upgrading.

Electrocatalytic nitric oxide reduction (NORR) enables the efficient abatement of NO while simultaneously synthesizing valuable ammonia (NH 3 ). However, the strong polarity of NO hinders its effective activation on conventional NORR catalysts because of their single-site interaction mode, wherein either the nitrogen (N) or oxygen (O) atom of NO binds to the catalyst through a unidirectional electron transfer. In this study, we construct dual-atom Cu 1 −Ti pairs on the titanium oxide (TiO x ) substrate by using the complementary affinities of Ti for nitrogen and Cu for oxygen, which simultaneously activates both ends of the N=O bond. The designed Cu 1 −Ti pairs achieve competitive NORR performance with an NH 3 yield of 189.9 μmol h −1 cm −2 and a Faradaic efficiency of 93.7%. In situ techniques and theoretical calculations demonstrate that this dual-atom configuration shifts the mechanism from an end-on adsorption pathway observed on homonuclear pairs to a fully activating side-on mode. By highlighting the importance of adapted active site design in the electrocatalytic activation of polar molecules, this study facilitates the development of next-generation catalysts for complex transformations.

The phase transition behavior of Pb(Hf 1- x Ti x )O 3 (PHT) ceramics with low Ti content (x = 0.02–0.06) was systematically investigated. Results reveal that increasing Ti content induces the transition from the antiferroelectric (AFE) to the ferroelectric (FE) phase, with the phase boundary located near x = 0.05 (95/5 composition). For PHT 98/2, a dielectric anomaly at 125 °C corresponds to an AFE I → AFE II transition. In PHT 96/4, a high-temperature ferroelectric phase was identified, with a sequential phase evolution of AFE → FE → PE upon heating. PHT 95/5 exhibits clear ferroelectric behavior but retains a partial AFE component, resulting in a non-monotonic temperature dependence of remnant polarization ( P r ). These findings suggest that the AFE/FE phase boundary in the PHT system lies near 95/5 and that its phase transition characteristics closely resemble those observed in Pb(Zr 1- x Ti x )O 3 (PZT)-based materials.

Although lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) offer high energy density and long cycle life, their large-scale application is hindered by the scarcity and high cost of lithium resources. sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) have emerged as a promising alternative for large-scale energy storage due to the abundance and low cost of sodium. However, the development of high-performance SIBs is impeded by structural instability in cathode materials, primarily caused by the relatively large ionic radius of Na + , which induces lattice strain and phase transitions during cycling. In this work, a Fe/Ti co-doped tunnel-type sodium manganese oxide cathode material, Na 0.55 Mn 0.9 Fe 0.05 Ti 0.05 O 2 (NaMO55-FT5), was successfully synthesized via a high-temperature solid-state method. The structural evolution and electrochemical behavior of the material were systematically investigated. It was found that synergistic Fe/Ti doping effectively expanded Na + interlayer spacing, mitigated Jahn-Teller distortion through Mn 3+ stabilization, and disrupted Na + /vacancy ordering, thereby enhancing both Na content and structural integrity. As a result, the NaMO55-FT5 material delivered an initial discharge capacity of 98.5 mAh g −1 at 0.5C, retains 72.0% of its capacity after 300 cycles, and maintained a reversible capacity of 55.2 mAh g −1 at a high rate of 5C, demonstrating outstanding cycling stability and superior rate capability. This study presented a rational design strategy based on dual-metal co-doping for developing high-sodium-content, structurally robust tunnel-type cathode materials, offering valuable insights for advancing the practical deployment of SIBs in grid-scale energy storage applications.

Gas-phase catalytic synthesis of glycolide (GL) from methyl glycolate (MG) offers a promising route for sustainable production of polyglycolic acid, yet suffers from unfavorable catalytic performances due to limited mechanistic understandings. Here, a series of Ti/SiO 2 catalysts supported on mesoporous materials with distinct pore structures were synthesized to elucidate the structure–performance–mechanism relationship. Among them, Ti/KIT-6 exhibited the highest MG conversion and GL yield, attributed to its large pore size, three-dimensional interconnected mesostructure, and well-dispersed tetrahedral Ti(IV) species. Comprehensive structure characterizations and mechanistic studies establish a linear correlation for MG conversion rate and GL formation rate with the tetrahedral Ti(IV) content, pointing to Ti(IV) as the intrinsic active sites. Further combining with temperature-programmed and in situ spectroscopy experiments, a possible reaction mechanism is proposed for MG-to-GL on the active site. This study provides mechanistic insights to guide design of Ti-based catalysts for gas-phase ester cyclization reactions.

A two-step electrochemical method was employed to fabricate iodine-containing TiO 2 nanotubes composite coatings on pure Ti, with the objectives of enhancing coating-substrate adhesion and antibacterial performance. TiO 2 nanotubes were synthesized via anodic oxidation followed by iodine electrodeposition in 0.2% povidone-iodine solutions without KI and with varying concentrations of KI, respectively. The samples were characterized via SEM, EDS, and XPS. The coating-substrate adhesion, antibacterial activity, and cytotoxicity were systematically evaluated. The results indicate that KI addition enhances the electrical conductivity of the electrolyte and thus accelerates iodine deposition, while excess I − leads to damage of nanotubular structure. The electrodeposited iodine species primarily exist in the forms of I 3 − , I 2 , and pentavalent iodine. The TiO 2 nanotubes retard the iodine release rate. With increasing KI concentration, the coating-substrate adhesion first increases and then decreases. The sample fabricated in the electrolyte with 0.05% KI achieves the maximum adhesion (28.7 ± 1.5 N). This optimal sample demonstrates antibacterial rates of 88.7% and 92.7% against E. coli and S. aureus , respectively while displaying negligible cytotoxicity. This two-step electrochemical approach for fabricating iodine-containing TiO 2 nanotubes composite coatings serves as a viable surface modification strategy for Ti implants, yielding antibacterial coatings with substantial clinical potential.

Ti/SnO 2 -Sb electrodes are widely used in electrocatalysis due to their high oxygen evolution potential (OEP) and low cost, but their practical application is limited by the short service life. In this study, Ti/SnO 2 -Sb electrodes were modified by introducing Ta 2 O 5 nanopowder through a thermal decomposition method to form SnO 2 -Ta 2 O 5 heterojunctions. The structural, morphological, and electrochemical properties of the electrodes with varying Ta 2 O 5 concentration were systematically investigated by XRD, XPS, FE-SEM, and electrochemical characterization techniques. Results show that Ta 2 O 5 incorporation induces lattice expansion, increases surface roughness, and improves the electrochemical active surface area by more than fourfold. The modified electrodes exhibit a significantly enhanced OEP of up to 2.20 V (vs. RHE), a threefold increase in double-layer capacitance, and a tenfold improvement (about 18 h) in accelerated service life under acidic conditions (100 mA/cm 2 ), compared to Ti/SnO 2 -Sb electrode. These findings demonstrate that Ta 2 O 5 doping effectively enhances catalytic activity, stability, and durability of Ti/SnO 2 -Sb electrodes, providing a promising strategy for the design of high-performance anodes for electrocatalytic applications.

Titanium (Ti) powder production via molten salt electrolysis is an environmentally sustainable alternative to the Kroll process, yet achieving precise control over oxygen content remains a significant challenge. This study established a NaCl-KCl-MgCl 2 -TiCl x electrolysis system using titanium sponge as the raw material; moreover, we innovatively introduced CeCl 3 as a deoxidation accelerant. The synergistic effects of anode/cathode current densities, electrolysis temperature, and CeCl 3 concentration on the oxygen content and morphological evolution of Ti powder were systematically investigated. Results indicate that cathode current density exerts a non-monotonic regulatory effect on oxygen content, with an optimal window identified at 1.0 A/cm 2 . While increasing the temperature to 750 °C enhances deoxidation, further heating leads to undesirable grain coarsening. Critically, the addition of CeCl 3 significantly bolsters deoxidation efficiency by modulating the oxygen potential within the melt. Under the optimized parameters (4 wt% CeCl 3 , 750 °C, 0.4 A/cm 2 anode current density, and 1.0 A/cm 2 cathode current density), high-purity Ti powder with an oxygen content as low as 600 ppm was successfully fabricated. This work provides a robust theoretical and technical framework for the green, cost-effective production of high-end, low-oxygen titanium powders.

Highlights•A Ti-HA/TiO2photocurable composite resin coating was fabricated on TC4 titanium alloy via a simple coating curing process, with controllable thickness and good interfacial bonding.•The porous coating effectively promotes remineralization capacity and bioactivity by introducing bioactive Ca/P elements.•Benefiting from the synergistic photocatalytic effect of Ti-HA and TiO2, the coating achieves a high antibacterial rate.Titanium alloys are widely used in dental implants due to their excellent mechanical properties. However, their inertness and poor antibacterial activity cause interfacial loosening and failure, shortening service life. This study integrates surface microtexturing with coating technologies, employing modified light-curing composite resins to boost the bioactivity of medical titanium alloys via surface modification. The results reveal that surface microtexturing enlarges the coating-substrate contact area by 42.5% compared with rough surfaces, concurrently diminishing stress per unit area, and the coating on microtextured Ti-6Al-4V (TC4) surfaces achieves adhesion with a damaged area of only 0.5%, thereby notably enhancing adhesion between the coating and TC4 matrix. In comparison, with rough surfaces (surface roughness of 0.658 μm), smooth TC4 planes (surface roughness of 0.014 μm) show a significantly reduced bacterial colony count (from 130 ± 6 to 42 ± 3) with an antibacterial rate of 67.7%, as the water contact angle on TC4 surfaces increases with decreasing roughness (reaching 80.95° on the smoothest surface), making bacterial adhesion more challenging and reducing colonization. The composite resin coating based on a mixture of titanium-doped hydroxyapatite and titanium dioxide (Ti-HA/TiO2) further improves the antibacterial rate to 74.6% through a photocatalytic synergistic effect and endows TC4 with excellent remineralization capacity—mineralization deposits appear on the coated surface after 3 days of immersion in artificial saliva, while no obvious deposits are found on uncoated rough and smooth surfaces even after 7 days—thereby enhancing its bioactivity effectively. This study on the modification of Ti-based implant surfaces will enrich the field by introducing new technologies and methodologies. These advancements provide a theoretical basis for improvement of the remineralization capacity and antibacterial properties of Ti-based dental implants, thereby promoting broader biomedical applications.

Spherical Ti-6Al-4V alloy powder is a critical feedstock for additive manufacturing, and there is an increasing demand for low-oxygen powders produced using sustainable methods. In this study, fine spherical Ti-6Al-4V powder with a particle size of 15–53 μm was deoxidized via calciothermic reduction, utilizing CaO as a dispersant to suppress powder sintering. The effects of deoxidation parameters on oxygen content and recovery yield were systematically investigated, and the deoxidation mechanism and dispersion behavior were elucidated. The results show that optimal CaO addition effectively prevents direct interparticle contact, thereby inhibiting agglomeration and sintering during deoxidation and significantly enhancing powder recovery yield. Under conditions of 1000°C, 2 h, m CaO/Ti-6Al-4V = 1, and m Ca/Ti-6Al-4V = 0.09, the deoxidized powder retained its spherical morphology without observable sintering, exhibiting an oxygen content of 780 ppm and a recovery yield of 92%. The key powder characteristics — flowability (31 s/50 g) and apparent density (2.37 g/cm 3 ) — closely match the typical values reported for commercial LPBF feedstocks.
