With the simple perovskite structure, Bi 2 WO 6 could be utilized as a modifier to overcome the low visible light response of the wide energy band photocatalyst ZnS. Flower-like Bi 2 WO 6 was simply synthesized by hydrothermal method and Bi 2 WO 6 /ZnS heterojunction was constructed via solvothermal reaction. The results showed that ZnS nanospheres were uniformly loaded on the flower-like structure, which was well kept under low concentration loading (≤20%ωt ZnS). The degradation of MB and Rh.B under visible light was used to measure the photocatalytic activity of the photocatalysts. The degradation rates of MB and Rh.B by 20%ωt-Bi 2 WO 6 /ZnS were as high as 94.3% and 92.8%, respectively. Moreover, the degradation performance of photocatalyst still maintained 89.3% after 4 times recycling tests. The visible light absorption ability of modified ZnS was improved, and the recombination of photogenerated electrons and holes was inhibited due to the formation of heterojunction. According to the data from density functional theory calculation, the composition of the valence band and conductive band of the Bi 2 WO 6 /ZnS system has been altered. The band gap of Bi 2 WO 6 /ZnS was reduced by roughly 1.12 eV compared to that of pure ZnS, and the work function analysis were in good agreement with the experimental results. Under light stimulation, electrons were transferred from Bi 2 WO 6 to ZnS to produce superoxide radicals which played key roles in the degradation reaction of dyes.

In this study, red light emitting InP/ZnSeS/ZnS quantum dots (QDs) are prepared by thermal injection method. The results show that the InP/ZnSeS/ZnS QDs saturable absorbers (SA) have good nonlinear saturable absorption properties with modulation depth of 24.2% and saturation intensity of 0.08 KW cm −2 . Then the QD SAs are applied to the erbium-doped fiber laser (EDFL) ring cavity system, and a mode-locked laser pulse with a pulse width of 635 fs is generated. In addition, the pulse width is determined by the carrier recovery time, which is closely related to the defect density in the material. A large number of defects are eliminated in the QDs by hydrogen fluoride (HF) treatment, and the pulse width is reduced from 635 to 450 fs. Results of time-resolved photoluminescence and ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy (TAS) show that HF treatment indeed reduces defects in InP/ZnSeS/ZnS QDs, indicated by the decrease of the carrier recovery time. This is different from the reported 2D SA materials, which usually reduce the carrier recovery time by increasing the defect density. This study will inspire new applications of QDs in ultrafast photonics and nonlinear optics.

InP quantum dots (QDs) with low toxicity are considered to be the most promising materials. However, the oxidation problem of In and P has become to the major factor affecting the optical properties of InP QDs. In this work, the effect of luminescence properties of InP/GaP/ZnS QDs with halogen acid treatment have been studied. The results show that HF and HCl are beneficial to improve the optical properties of QDs, HBr especially HI are not conductive to promote the photoluminescence quantum yield (PL QY) of QDs. HF and HCl can etch the oxidative layer effectively, the F − and Cl − can also passivate the surface indium dangling bonds in the form of atomic ligands. The proposed model of charge carrier recombination show that the PL QY improved significantly after HA treatment attributed to the recombination of electron-hole pairs through radiative pathways mainly from the conduction band and valence band . The InP QDs with HF treatment has the best luminescence properties with high PL QY of 96%, offering great potential for advanced optoelectronic devices.

Background In last few years, the researchers from different communities are focusing the wastewater treatment of medical and aquaculture industry. More importantly, the antibiotic released from the hospitals and aquaculture badly effecting water bodies. Methods In this work, a series of CuInS 2 /ZnS (CIS/ZnS) heterojunction nanomaterials are prepared through solvothermal method and analyzed using different techniques. The photocatalytic behavior of CIS/ZnS heterojunctions in the degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) is investigated under visible light irradiation. Significant findings The results show that up to 86% of TCH degrades in 3 h with the optimized CIS/ZnS(1:2) sample. The enhanced photocatalytic activity is attributed to the formation of S-scheme heterojunctions, which promotes charge separation and transportation in CIS/ZnS composite materials. The photocatalytic mechanism is elucidated based on the electron paramagnetic resonance technique, optical properties and charge/radical trapping experiments. The visible-light absorption ability is enhanced, and superoxide radical ( • O 2 − ) is confirmed to be one of the main active species according to active substance capturing experiments. The high stability of CIS/ZnS composite provides a new way to design effective photocatalysts for the eradication of hazardous materials from environment.

Photocatalysis is one of the most promising methods to solve the problems of solar energy conversion and sustainable fuel production. Among them, the semiconductor electronic transition to produce hydrogen is the most critical research topic in the field of photocatalysis. ZnS and Ag2Mo2O7 monomers were prepared by the hydrothermal method. The S-scheme heterojunction was formed by electrostatic adsorption of the two materials. The S-scheme heterojunction can improve the separation rate of photogenerated carriers through the built-in electric field so that the hydrogen production rate of the system can reach a maximum of 871.9 μmol g−1 h−1. The system showed a good photoelectric response according to UV-Vis DRS and electrochemistry studies and excellent hydrogen evolution performance. In this study a DFT simulation of the heterojunction interface formed by the system was also carried out, and the relative size of the surface work function indicated the transfer direction and path of electrons.

Fibrous supercapacitor (FSC) is of great attention in wearable electronics, but is challenged by low energy density, owing to disordered diffusion pathway and sluggish redox kinetics. Herein, using micro-reaction strategy, an anisotropic superstructure is developed by in situ anchoring ultrafine zinc sulfine (ZnS) nanoclusters on conductively ordered macro-microporous carbon skeleton via interfacial C S Zn bonds (ZnS/SOM-C). The anisotropic superstructure affords 3D ordered macro-microporous pathways, large accessible surfaces, and highly dispersed active sites, which exhibit enhanced electrolyte mass diffusion, rapid interfacial charge transfer, and large faradaic ions storage (capacitance of 1158 F g −1 in KOH aqueous solution). By microfluidic spinning, the ZnS/SOM-C is further assembled into fibrous electrode of FSC that delivers high capacitance (791 F g −1 ), commercial-level energy density (172 mWh g −1 ), and durable stability. As a result, the FSC can realize wearable self-powered applications (e.g., self-cleaning ventilatory mask, smartwatch, and display), exhibiting the superiority in new energy and wearable industry.

Defect (vacancy) engineering can modulate the catalyst surface atoms and electrons, which is a low-cost and effective modification strategy for Z-scheme heterojunction . In this paper, metal and non-metal double vacancies (V Zn+O ) Z-scheme heterojunction photocatalysts (BiOCl/ZnS−V Zn+O ) were synthesized for the degradation of norfloxacin (NOR) for the first time. The results show that the built-in electric field of BiOCl/ZnS−V Zn+O catalyst induces the directional migration of photogenerated carriers, which greatly improves the carrier migration and separation efficiency. The introduced nonmetallic (O) vacancies can lower the conduction band of BiOCl, while the metallic (Zn) vacancies can enhance the valence band of ZnS. Due to the synergistic efficiency formed by the double vacancies and Z-scheme heterojunction, BiOCl/ZnS−V Zn+O showed excellent performance in photodegradation of NOR (97.9% degradation rate of 20 mg/L NOR in 50 min photodegradation). In addition, the mechanism of action, intermediates and degradation pathways of photodegradation were discussed in detail.

Transition-metal-ion-doped quantum dots (QDs) are promising candidates to fabricate full-spectrum white-light-emitting diodes (WLEDs). In this work, a series of efficient white-light-emitting Cu,Mn-codoped ZnGaS/ZnS (Cu,Mn:ZnGaS/ZnS) QDs were synthesized by controlling the Zn/Ga molar ratio and the amounts of Mn dopants. After ZnS shelling, the photoluminescence quantum yield reached 58% and the spectrum almost covered the whole visible spectrum. Further, the stepwise doping process was investigated, which had considerable reference value to subsequent research. The Cu,Mn:ZnGaS/ZnS QDs were employed to fabricate WLEDs displaying a color rendering index of 94 and CIE coordinates of (0.34, 0.35).

Understanding the influence of the inner shell on fluorescence blinking and exciton dynamics is essential to promote the optical performances of InP-based quantum dots (QDs). Here, the fluorescence blinking, exciton dynamics, second-order correlation function g2(τ), and ultrafast carrier dynamics of InP/ZnSe/ZnS QDs regulated by the inner ZnSe shell thickness varying from 2 to 7 monolayers (MLs) were systematically investigated. With an inner ZnSe shell thickness of 5 MLs, the photoluminescence quantum yield (PL QY) can reach 98% due to the suppressed blinking and increased probability of multiphoton emission. The exciton dynamics of InP/ZnSe/ZnS QDs with different inner shells indicates that two decay components of neural excitons and charged trions are competitive to affect the photon emission behavior. The probability density distributions of the ON and OFF state duration in the blinking traces demonstrate an effective manipulation of the inner ZnSe shell in the non-radiative processes via defect passivation. Accordingly, the radiative recombination dominates the exciton deactivation and the non-radiative Auger recombination rate is remarkably reduced, leading to a QY close to unity and a high PL stability for InP/ZnSe/ZnS QDs with 5 MLs of the ZnSe shell. These results provide insights into the photophysical mechanism of InP-based QDs and are significant for developing novel semiconductor PL core/shell QDs.

A novel magnetic fluorescent nanoprobe (Fe3O4@ZnS@MPS(MFNPs)) was synthesized, which recognized and cooperated with Ag+ions, and a rapid method for detecting Ag+was established in solution. It was found by fluorescence spectroscopy analysis that the MFNPs could detect Ag+in PBS solution and, upon addition of Ag+ions, the fluorescence (FL) of MFNPs could be quenched significantly. The sensor has a low limit of detection (LOD) of 7.04 µM for Ag+. The results showed that MFNPs were extremely specific and sensitive for the quantitative detection of Ag+over a wide pH range. Then, the recognition mechanism between MFNPs and guest Ag+was explored via measures of infrared spectroscopy and electron microscopy. It was speculated that the oxygen atoms in the sulfonic acid group cooperated with Ag+to form a synergistic complexation. The assay was successfully used to determine the content of Ag+ in real samples. Keywords:magnetic fluorescent nanosensor;selective recognition;silver ion;3-sulfhydryl-1-propane sodium (MPS)

Conductive carbon structure has been considered as a promising sulfur-hosting material as the cathode of lithium-sulfur batteries. However, the issue of polysulfide shuttling requires an additional component to help restrict and convert sulfur substances. Herein, in this work, hollow and porous carbon nanospheres (HCS) are synthesized by a template method and a high-temperature carbonization treatment. A thin layer of ZnS coating is then deposited on the HCS-based sulfur (ZnS@HCS/S) cathode with controlled thickness, and the overall electrochemical properties are systematically evaluated. Results show that with 30 nm-thick ZnS coating, the cathode reveals an improved capacity of 1411 mA h g −1 , and higher capacities from 0.2 to 3 C rate compared with bare HCS/S cathode. Moreover, the ZnS coating also enhances the cycling stability of ZnS@HCS/S cathode over 280 cycles at 0.5 C, with only 0.2% capacity decay per cycle. This work demonstrates potential applications for high-performance lithium-sulfur batteries.

Heterogeneous photocatalysis has been considered as a green and sustainable alternative for water decontamination where the key step is the nanomaterials design to enhance the photocatalytic process. Therefore, in this study the photocatalytic degradation of an emerging contaminant as the tetracycline antibiotic in aqueous solution, was investigated under UV–Vis irradiation by using the WO 3 /ZnS photocatalyst. The coupled catalyst was synthesized by hydrothermal method and by varying the WO 3 weight ratio (5, 10 and 20 wt%) with respect to the ZnS. The WO 3 /ZnS photoactivity for tetracycline degradation was greatly enhanced when both semiconductors were coupled to form a highly efficient direct Z-scheme. The highest degradation percentage was reached using the catalyst t WO 3 (5%)/ZnS, which completely degraded the pollutant within 90 min, and the determination of total organic carbon (TOC) removal indicated a high mineralization degree. Photoelectrochemical studies showed that WO 3 (5%)/ZnS exhibited the highest separation of e − / h + pairs and the highest transfer efficiency. The improvement of the electron-hole separation in combination with the band alignment analysis, explained the intrinsic mechanism which corresponded to the direct Z-scheme photocatalytic system.
