In this study, a quantitative method based on fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC)-labelledHizikia fusiformepolyphenol–polysaccharide complex (HPC) and its purified fractions (PC1, PC4) was used, and its pharmacokinetics and tissue distribution were investigated in mice. The results showed that the FITC-labelled method had good linearity (R2> 0.99), intra-day and inter-day precision (RSD, %) consistently lower than 15%, recovery (93.19–106.54%), and stability (RSD < 15%), which met the basic criteria for pharmacokinetic studies. The pharmacokinetic and tissue distribution results in mice after administration showed that all three sample groups could enter the blood circulation. and HPC-FITC had a longer half-life (T1/2: 26.92 ± 0.76 h) and mean retention time (MRT0–∞: 36.48 h) due to its larger molecular weight. The three groups of samples could be absorbed by the organism in a short time (0.5 h) mainly in the stomach and intestine; the samples could be detected in the urine after 2 h of administration indicating strong renal uptake, and faecal excretion reached its maximum at 12 h. The samples were also detected in the urine after 2 h of administration. This study provides some theoretical basis for the tissue distribution pattern of polyphenol–polysaccharide complex.

Adhesives are widely used in everyday life; however, traditional polymer adhesives pose unavoidable hazards to the environment and living organisms due to their extensive use of toxic organic solvents, heavy reliance on fossil resources as synthetic raw materials, and lack of recyclability. Furthermore, they are incapable of maintaining a stable adhesion performance in harsh conditions. In this work, we present a facile yet powerful noncovalent bonding strategy for successfully constructing poly(glycidol-co-1,2-butylene oxide)/tannic acid supramolecular adhesives (PG-co-PBO/TA SAs) through hydrogen-bonding interactions between hyperbranched PG-co-PBO and natural TA. The SAs demonstrate an adhesion strength of 2.15 MPa at ambient temperature and maintain an adhesion strength of 1.53 MPa even at −196 °C. Moreover, it can be easily recycled through thermal treatment and retains stable adhesion strength even after undergoing multiple recycling cycles. The investigation of the structure–property relationship of SAs and molecular dynamics simulations has clarified that short alkyl chains of PG-co-PBO effectively protect the hydrogen-bonding networks from damage by repelling water at the adhesive interface. Consequently, SAs even maintain robust and long-lasting adhesion strength in acidic, alkaline, and seawater solutions. Importantly, unlike conventional adhesives, SAs do not employ organic solvents throughout the synthesis, bonding, and recycling processes. By designing functionalized polymers and utilizing polyphenolic compounds, this work provides a green and feasible strategy for the development of next-generation powerful supramolecular adhesives.

In this study, trace chlorogenic acid (CGA) was introduced as a natural reductant and ligand to facilitate the activation of Fe(III) in a sulfate radical-based advanced oxidation process (SR-AOP), enabling effective Fenton-like degradation of ofloxacin (OFL) under mild conditions. The CGA/Fe(III)/PMS system exhibited excellent performance in the degradation of ofloxacin (OFL) at near-neutral pH. The presence of CGA effectively promoted Fe(III)/Fe(II) cycling via dual redox and chelation effects, thereby enhancing PMS activation. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) analysis suggested that sulfate radicals (SO 4 ·− ) were the dominant contributors to OFL degrdation, while other reactive species played minor roles. The system maintained high activity in the presence of common coexisting anions in water (e.g., Cl − , and SO 4 2− ), whereas HCO 3 − and HPO 4 2− significantly suppressed degradation. These findings demonstrated the promising potential of CGA as an environmentally compatible additive for Fe(III)-based AOPs, providing useful mechanistic insight for mitigating antibiotic contamination in aquatic environments. Persistent bacterial infections and oxidative stress-induced inflammatory responses present significant challenges to wound healing. Conventional wound care approaches frequently prioritize bacterial eradication while overlooking the critical need to modulate inflammation. To address this limitation, we have innovatively developed carrier-free nano-aggregates through the co-precipitation of natural polyphenols (resveratrol and piceatannol) and a porphyrin-based photosensitizer, which function as antibacterial and anti-inflammatory agents, respectively. Significantly, rather than forming a simple mixture, the two components co-assemble via microstructure regulation into a highly ordered architecture exhibiting characteristic J-aggregate features. Specifically, the piceatannol-based aggregates (designated T 4 PIC NPs) achieved an exceptional photothermal conversion efficiency (PCE) of 51.1% under 730 nm irradiation, accompanied by an 86 nm spectral redshift, surpassing most previously reported porphyrin-based nanoparticles. These properties enable highly effective sterilization even at low doses. Notably, the natural polyphenols not only enhance phototherapeutic efficacy but also, owing to their multi-hydroxyl structures, effectively scavenge reactive oxygen species and modulate inflammatory responses, thereby accelerating wound healing. This study establishes a straightforward strategy for delivering natural polyphenolic drugs while concurrently constructing highly efficient porphyrin-based photothermal formulations, demonstrating unique advantages for advanced wound management.

Current strategies for treating organic dye wastewater are shifting from single-function removal processes and catalytic degradation methods toward more integrated treatment approaches. This study proposes a multifunctional composite integrating adsorption–photodegradation–intelligent recovery for photodegradation and recovery of methylene blue-contaminated wastewater. By optimizing the preparation process to precisely control the pore size and arrangement of the aerogel, a hierarchical porous framework with a high specific surface area is formed, featuring efficient mass transfer and ultra-multiple loading sites. The graphene framework enhances visible-light absorption by optimizing TiO2loading, agglomeration behavior and addressing detachable defects through a metal–polyphenol network. After 60 min of illumination, the degradation efficiency exceeds 99.5%, demonstrating superior cycling stability. After 100 cycles, the photocatalytic efficiency remains above 97%, showcasing excellent durability. Furthermore, the in situ polymerized thermoresponsive poly (N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAm) composite exhibits smart responsiveness, enabling reversible temperature-responsive adsorption–desorption behavior within PNIPAm’s LCST range. with an adsorption capacity of 28,000 mg/g at LCST. Heating above LCST desorbs 90.2% of the wastewater, and adsorption stability remains above 98% after 100 thermal cycles, resolving operational challenges in mechanical wastewater recovery. The synergistic integration of an anisotropic porous structure, stable TiO2loading, and thermal responsiveness provides an efficient platform for integrated adsorption and recovery.

Abstract Coamorphous formulations have emerged as a promising strategy to improve the solubility and bioavailability of poorly soluble drugs, but their application is often limited by inherent thermodynamic instability. Herein, we propose an unconventional plasticizer strategy to stabilize coamorphous systems. The ternary coamorphous systems of baicalein (Bai), piperine (Pip), and resveratrol (Res) at 1:1:1, 1:2:1, 1:3:1, and 1:4:1 molar ratios were successfully prepared and exhibited enhanced supersaturated dissolution profiles, with approximately 3.4-, 5.3-, and 4.6-fold increases in the apparent solubilities of Bai, Pip, and Res, respectively. Pip as a plasticizer increased molecular mobility and lowered Tg from 107.5 to 52.3, 45.7, and 37.5 °C with increasing Pip content. Unexpectedly, coamorphous systems with higher Pip ratios exhibited enhanced physical stability. Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, molecular dynamics simulations, and quantum chemical calculations revealed a composition-dependent redistribution of intermolecular interactions. With increasing Pip content, Pip preferentially associated with Res and subsequently interacted with Bai, progressively disrupting the pre-existing Res−Bai hydrogen bond (HB). Meanwhile, the normalized HB numbers decreased, while the normalized binding energies remained nearly unchanged. Furthermore, the systems with a higher Pip ratio prolonged the intermittent HB lifetime with fast HB breaking and reformation (i.e., dynamic hydrogen bonding). Pip-mediated interaction reorganization and dynamic HB jointly contributed to the improved stability. This work provides a promising strategy for stabilizing coamorphous systems via plasticizers capable of establishing reorganized heteromolecular interactions and dynamic hydrogen bonding.

Development of a self-augmenting CDT nanosystem overcomes Fenton reaction bottlenecks. • Cascade reaction amplifies H₂O₂ & Fe 3 ⁺ fuels and accelerates Fe 3 ⁺/Fe 2 ⁺ cycling. • pH/NIR-responsive gatekeeper ensures tumor-specific drug delivery. • Synergistic CDT/ PTT achieve highly potent antitumor efficacy. Chemodynamic therapy (CDT) holds promise for tumor treatment but is limited by insufficient endogenous hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) and slow Fe 3 ⁺/Fe 2 ⁺ cycling in the tumor microenvironment (TME). Herein, we report a self-augmenting nanoplatform (CPT@HCuS-TF) by loading camptothecin (CPT) into hollow copper sulfide (HCuS) nanoparticles and sealing with an Fe 3 ⁺-containing polyphenol network (MPN). Under acidic TME and near-infrared (NIR) irradiation, the MPN shell degrades to release Fe 3 ⁺, CPT is liberated to amplify endogenous H₂O₂ levels, and HCuS acts as a catalyst to accelerate the reduction of Fe 3 ⁺ to Fe 2 ⁺, thereby overcoming the rate-limiting step of the Fenton reaction and boosting hydroxyl radical (•OH) generation. Meanwhile, HCuS-mediated photothermal therapy (PTT) further enhances CDT efficacy. This synergistic strategy integrates self-supplied H₂O₂, accelerated iron redox cycling, and photothermal effects, achieving efficient antitumor activity in both in vitro and in vivo model, offering a robust paradigm for self-enhancing CDT-based combination therapy.

Traditional hydrogels are limited by their loose three-dimensional network structure, inadequate mechanical strength, and insufficient synergistic antibacterial and antioxidant activities, which restrict their application as high-performance wound dressings. In this study, a graphene oxide (GO)-reinforced ternary composite hydrogel wound dressing (PVA/CS-GA/GO) based on polyphenol-modified chitosan and polyvinyl alcohol was successfully fabricated via a green repeated freeze–thaw process. The effects of GO incorporation on the microstructure, mechanical properties, antibacterial activity, and antioxidant performance of the composite hydrogels were systematically investigated. The results demonstrated that, at the optimal GO content, the composite hydrogel exhibited a tensile strength of 9.3 kPa and an elongation at break of 2163.7%, representing approximately 1.2-fold and 1.3-fold increases, respectively, compared with the PVA/CS-GA hydrogel. Moreover, GO incorporation further enhanced the antibacterial and antioxidant performances of the hydrogel, achieving a maximum antibacterial rate of 99.8% against Escherichia coli ( E.coli ) and increasing the DPPH radical scavenging activity to 94.8%, corresponding to an approximately 1.9-fold improvement over the PVA/CS-GA hydrogel. In addition, the composite hydrogel exhibited excellent structural stability and biocompatibility, simultaneously achieving mechanical reinforcement and multifunctional performance enhancement. These findings provide a theoretical basis for the design and development of high-performance multifunctional hydrogel wound dressings.

A green one-step aqueous-phase synthesis enabled fabrication of a natural polyphenol-mediated assembly preservation coating. • The polyphenol coating prolongs the shelf life of highly respiring berries, high-fat and high-protein meats, and perishable seafood. • The coating achieves preservation via multiple modes: antioxidative, antibacterial, surface adhesion and water retention. • The coating is manufactured from food-grade raw materials and exhibits excellent biocompatibility, with edible properties. The interdisciplinary integration of material chemistry and food science has facilitated the development of diverse composite preservation materials. However, achieving the green manufacturing of edible preservation materials that can meet the demands of multiple food products remains a major challenge. This study reports a natural polyphenol-mediated assembly engineering strategy to form a composite coating via a one-step aqueous-phase method using rosmarinic acid and zinc ions (RA-Zn). Owing to polyphenol content, RA-Zn complex coating possesses excellent antioxidative, antibacterial, surface adhesion, and moisture retention properties. The strong surface adhesion of the coating enables stable coverage of fresh food surfaces, thereby effectively inhibiting the colonization of pathogenic bacteria through biofilm disruption and quinoprotein formation. After spraying on various food matrices, including high-respiratory-rate berries, high-protein meats, and highly perishable seafood, RA-Zn coating effectively delays food spoilage, reduces weight loss, preserves nutritional content, and significantly extends shelf life. The shelf life of strawberries and winter jujubes was extended to one week, blueberries to 10 days, pork and shrimp by an additional 2 days. Importantly, RA-Zn coating demonstrates excellent biocompatibility in cells, zebrafish, nematodes, mice, and seed germination. This study provides new insights for the development of next-generation edible natural preservation packaging materials.

Pickering emulsion gels were successfully constructed by incorporating HPMC. • HPMC markedly enhanced the stability of tea polyphenol Pickering emulsions. • Gel strength was directly governed by HPMC content rather than addition sequence. • Distinct stabilization and gelation mechanisms of HPMC were proposed. • Relationship between interfacial structure and emulsion stability was elucidated. This study investigated the reinforcement of tea polyphenol particle-stabilized Pickering emulsion gels using hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), a food-grade non-ionic polysaccharide. The effects of HPMC addition sequence, volume fraction (0–0.5), and concentration (1%–4%) were systematically examined. Results demonstrated that HPMC significantly enhanced long-term storage and centrifugal stability, irrespective of its addition sequences. Microstructural and rheological analyses revealed that tea polyphenol particles formed the primary interfacial film, while HPMC reinforced this interface mainly via depletion-mediated interactions. Increasing HPMC volume fraction promoted particle adsorption at the oil-water interface, leading to stronger interfacial barriers and facilitating emulsion gelation. Higher HPMC concentrations progressively improved gel strength and stability. The critical factor governing emulsion behavior was HPMC content rather than addition sequence. This work provides a feasible strategy for rapidly constructing food-grade Pickering emulsion gels and elucidates the mechanism by which non-ionic polysaccharides modulate interfacial architecture and rheological properties, offering potential for designing stable emulsion-based foods. The interfacial structures were crucially influenced by HPMC content rather than addition sequence, which ultimately had an impact on the stabilization and gelation behaviors of Pickering emulsions. Highlights A biomimetic polyphenol-gated strategy is proposed to promote interfacial Li + - selective transport in composite solid electrolytes by chemically bonding the polymer matrix and ceramic nanofibers. The polyphenol interlayers serve as the chemical gates with –OH and –NH groups to immobilize lithium salt anions and carbonyl groups to coordinate Li + , thus lowering the energy barrier and promoting rapid Li + transport at interface. The assembled Li||LiFePO 4 batteries exhibits an impressive capacity of 151.6 mAh g −1 and long lifespan over 600 cycles. Solid-state lithium (Li) batteries offer high-energy density and operational safety but face sluggish Li + transport in polymer/ceramic composite solid-state electrolytes. Herein, we propose a bioinspired polyphenol-gated interfacial engineering that mimics ion-selective protein channels to enhance Li + -selective transport across the polymer–ceramic interface. Polyphenols such as polydopamine, poly-tannic acid, and poly-gallic acid chemically couple La 0.56 Li 0.33 TiO 3 ceramic nanofibers and glycidyl polyether matrix. Within this interface, carbonyl groups selectively coordinate Li⁺ and facilitate directional migration. On the other hand, hydroxyl and amino groups immobilize anions via hydrogen bonding. This chemical gating nearly doubles interfacial Li + concentration and boosts transference number to 0.68. The corresponding Li||LiFePO 4 battery exhibits stable cycling over 600 cycles with 85.5% capacity retention at 1 C, while the pouch cell delivers reliable operation under mechanical stress caused by bending and puncturing. This work demonstrates that polyphenol-gated interfaces are essential for promoting selective and efficient cross-phase Li⁺ transport for high-performance solid-state lithium-metal batteries. Kombucha, a traditionally fermented sweetened tea, develops its characteristic chemistry and flavor through microbial activities. Although the shift from traditional symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast (SCOBY) to well-defined simplified starters is a commercial necessity, the compositional and aromatic outcomes of co-fermenting key strains derived from SCOBY remain to be elucidated. In this study, the chemical and flavor-related outcomes of defined co-cultures using four different yeast strains paired with Komagataeibacter hansenii , isolated from kombucha, were investigated. The results demonstrated that yeasts were associated with higher levels of esterified catechins (e.g., EGCG), whereas co-cultures with K. hansenii corresponded to increased non-ester catechins (e.g., EGC) and distinct organic acid formation. Additionally, volatile organic compound (VOC) profiles varied markedly among groups, with yeast-containing fermentations showing increased accumulation of specific esters and alcohols. Co-culture fermentations exhibited distinct chemical and flavor-related profiles, with K. hansenii-Saccharomyces cerevisiae yielding the most balanced volatile profile. These findings suggest that the different combinations of yeasts and acetic acid bacteria can effectively influence the phenolic and flavor characteristics of kombucha, offering a basis for the rational design of defined starter cultures for precision fermentation.
