Loofah-like nanostructures have been applied in many fields because of their high specific surface area, high porosity, and low density. Developing additive manufacturing methods for loofah-like nanostructures remains a challenge. This paper proposed a novel E-Jet nanoprinting method with real-time laser zone irradiation, for one-step fabricating of loofah-like ZnO nanostructures. The combination of laser irradiation and electrohydrodynamic effect had been proved in detail by adding laser irradiation to the traditional E-Jet printing process. Printable ZnO inks were prepared. The numerical model of the jetting under the combination of flow field and electric field; and the model of the interaction between laser and printing structure were established respectively. The laser beam irradiated the printing structure in real-time to rapidly absorb energy, resulting in thermal expansion and thermal decomposition. The shock wave generated by laser irradiation induced the physical fragmentation and redistribution of particles in the printed structure. Printing at different laser powers was investigated; and the loofah-like ZnO nanostructures, down to the scale of ∼90 nm, have been directly printed without post-processing. The characteristic morphology and hydrophilic characteristics of the printed structure were studied. This study provided a new way for green and efficient additive fabrication of loofah-like nanostructures, which was of significance for the development of nanofabrication and nanodevices.

( E )-2-Hexenal (E2H) is an important volatile organic compound (VOC) that can serve as a marker for fruit quality sensing and shelf-life evaluation. However, visual and portable sensors for E2H have not been reported mainly because of the difficulty in selective response to E2H while avoiding interference from other VOC, especially isomers. Herein, we developed a novel colorimetric sensor based on thiol-functionalized polydiacetylene assembly (PDA-SH/PDA) for the quantitative and selectivity of E2H. The mechanism was that E2H underwent a Michael addition reaction with sulfhydryl groups in PDA-SH/PDA. The Michael addition reaction destroyed the hydrogen bond and distorted the conjugated molecular system, resulting in colorimetric responses. Under optimal conditions, a good linear relationship was observed between E2H concentration and red colorimetric shift ( R 2 = 0.9679). The E2H sensor yields a high analytical sensitivity of 1.5203% and a limit of detection of 0.015 g L −1 . Besides, the PDA-SH/PDA sensor can be used to visually distinguish E2H and its isomer ( Z )-3-hexenal. The PDA-SH/PDA sensor yielded a statistically significant difference in red colorimetric shift ( p < 0.01) between the pairs of isomers in the ripeness of fruits. At last, the sensor was utilized for detecting E2H in grapes from different shelf lives. We found that the E2H concentration increased from 66.16 ± 1.54 to 67.56 ± 1.30 µg L −1 as storage time was prolonged. The results of this research not only demonstrated the feasibility of visual and on-site detection of E2H but also provided potential promise for portable fruit quality sensing and shelf-life evaluation.

Two-dimensional transition metal carbide/nitride (MXene) materials have been extensively employed in wearable electronics due to their outstanding physicochemical properties. Here, a straightforward and efficient ultrasonic welding technique combined with dip-coating was sequentially used to form PDA/MXene/APS-PFOTES multifunctional e-textile sensors on low-cost airlaid paper (AP) substrates. The PDA/MXene/APS-PFOTE/AP e-textile sensors showed exceptional breathability and superhydrophobicity, even under challenging conditions such as ultrasonic cleaning, high temperatures, and UV irradiation. Meanwhile, smart PDA/MXene/APS-PFOTE/AP e-textile devices exhibited stable sensing strain performances with a fast response time of 0.35 seconds and a broad range of 20 Pa–104.3 kPa. Additionally, the composite conductive fabric can be utilized for clinical monitoring of human activities through wireless transmission systems and can be applied for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding, demonstrating an EMI shielding effectiveness (SE) of 17 dB in the 8.2–12.4 GHz range.

N -(sodium 2-hydroxypropylsulfonate) chitosan (HSCS), N -sulfonate chitosan (SCS) and N -isonicotinic sulfonate chitosan (ISCS) were prepared. The structures of the prepared chitosan derivatives were characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance ( 1 H NMR) spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis) spectroscopy and elemental analysis (EA). Antibacterial and antibiofilm activities of these chitosan derivatives were evaluated in vitro . The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of HSCS and SCS against Escherichia coli ( E. coli ) and Staphylococcus aureus ( S. aureus ) were 0.625 mg/mL and 0.156 mg/mL, respectively. ISCS exhibited MIC values of 0.313 mg/mL and 0.078 mg/mL against E. coli and S. aureus , respectively. ISCS demonstrated superior antibacterial and antibiofilm properties compared to SCS and HSCS. These findings suggest that the incorporation of a pyridine structure into sulfonate chitosan enhances its antibacterial and antibiofilm activities, and the prepared ISCS has a promising application prospect for controlling the reproduction of microorganisms in the field of food packaging.

Simple SummaryEscherichia coliis a ubiquitous pathogen, with certain strains causing severe diarrhea and intestinal illnesses, which pose significant health risks to both children and animals. As antimicrobial resistance continues to rise, traditional antibiotics are increasingly ineffective, highlighting the urgent need for novel therapeutic strategies. In this study, we investigated the antimicrobial peptide D-CONGA-Q7, aiming to evaluate its efficacy and underlying mechanism against drug-resistantE. colistrains. Our results demonstrate that D-CONGA-Q7 effectively disrupts bacterial cell membranes, leading to bacterial death, and exhibits comparable activity against polymyxin- and meropenem-resistant strains. In vivo experiments revealed that D-CONGA-Q7 significantly alleviated intestinal inflammation, reduced inflammatory cytokine levels, and promoted the repair of damaged intestinal tissues. Furthermore, D-CONGA-Q7 displayed good stability. These findings suggest that D-CONGA-Q7 not only represents a promising new approach to combat drug-resistant bacterial infections but also holds potential for clinical application.Escherichia coli(E. coli) is a zoonotic bacterium widespread in the environment, highly transmissible, and responsible for significant economic losses and millions of cases of illness annually. The rise of multidrug-resistant (MDR) strains has rendered last-line antibiotics such as polymyxin and meropenem ineffective, making the development of new antibiotics urgent. Although D-CONGA-Q7 has broad-spectrum bactericidal activity, its underlying mechanism remains poorly understood. In this study, we used in vitro and in vivo experiments to demonstrate that D-CONGA-Q7 effectively kills both antibiotic-sensitive and multidrug-resistant strains ofE. coli. D-CONGA-Q7 disrupts the cell membranes of Gram-negative bacteria, and the treatment ofE. colistrainLN175with D-CONGA-Q7 resulted in a significant up-regulation of theMlacgene, suggesting that D-CONGA-Q7 may interact with phospholipids in the cell membrane. Furthermore, in treatingK88-induced bacterial enteritis in the small intestine, D-CONGA-Q7 significantly reduced intestinal inflammation. In conclusion, this study provides a novel approach to combat drug-resistantE. coli.

Amomi fructus (AF) has been used for both medicinal and food purposes for centuries. However, issues such as source mixing, substandard quality, and product adulteration often affect its efficacy. This study used E-nose (EN) and headspace-gas chromatography-ion mobility spectrometry (HS-GC-IMS) to determine and analyze the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in AF and its counterfeit products. A total of 111 VOCs were detected by HS-GC-IMS, with 101 tentatively identified. Orthogonal Partial Least Squares-Discriminant Analysis (OPLS-DA) identified 47 VOCs as differential markers for distinguishing authentic AF from counterfeits (VIP value >1 and P < 0.05). Based on the E-nose sensor response value and the peak volumes of the 111 VOCs, the unguided Principal Component Analysis (PCA), guided Principal Component Analysis-Discriminant Analysis (PCA-DA), and Partial Least Squares-Discriminant Analysis (PLS-DA) models were established to differentiate AF by authenticity, origin, and provenance. The authenticity identification model achieved 100.00% accuracy after PCA analysis, while the origin identification model and the provenance identification model were 95.65% (HS-GC-IMS: PLS-DA) and 98.18% (HS-GC-IMS: PCA-DA/PLS-DA), respectively. Further data-level fusion of E-nose and HS-GC-IMS significantly improved the accuracy of the origin identification model to 97.96% (PLS-DA), outperforming single-source data modeling. In conclusion, the intelligent data fusion algorithm based on E-nose and HS-GC-IMS data effectively identifies the authenticity, origin, and provenance of AF, providing a rapid and accurate method for quality evaluation.

Flexible piezoresistive pressure sensors are crucial for next-generation wearable electronics, yet achieving simultaneous high sensitivity, durability, and mechanical robustness remains a challenge. Herein, we report a high-performance piezoresistive sensor fabricated through the integration of two-dimensional MXene nanosheets with a hierarchically structured modified polyamide 6 nanofiber net (D-PA6 NFN) using scalable vacuum filtration. Benefiting from the synergistic combination of MXene’s excellent electrical properties, web-like architecture, the composite nanofiber tensile strength (52 MPa), and flexibility (40%), the resulting sensor exhibited good sensitivity (0.189 kPa–1), a rapid response/recovery time (14/13 ms), and an ultralow detection limit (4.2 Pa). Moreover, the device maintained stability over 12,000 compression cycles. The sensor precisely captured both subtle physiological signals (pulse waveforms) and large-scale dynamic motions (joint flexion). This work establishes a scalable strategy for engineering durable, high-sensitivity electronic skins, with immediate applications in advanced human-machine interfaces and real-time physiological monitoring.

8-Epidiosbulbin E acetate (EEA), a furan-containing diterpenoid lactone and key component of Dioscorea bulbifera L., has been found to induce notable liver injury in mice through CYP3A-mediated metabolic activation to a cis -enedial reactive metabolite. EEA exposure at 25, 50, 100, or 200 µM triggered apoptosis in cultured mouse primary hepatocytes, evidenced by alterations in mitochondrial and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) pathway protein levels. Pretreatment with ketoconazole, vitamin C, glutathione ethyl ester, or 4-phenylbutyric acid effectively reduced the apoptotic ratio and restored the balance of mitochondrial and ER pathway protein levels impacted by EEA in primary hepatocytes. In contrast, pretreatment with L-buthionine sulfoximine exacerbated the apoptotic ratio and altered protein levels associated with the mitochondrial and ER pathways induced by EEA. In summary, metabolic activation, GSH depletion, and ROS are implicated in the induction of apoptosis. EEA triggered apoptosis in cultured primary hepatocytes via disruption of the crosstalk between the mitochondrial and ER pathways.

Floral fragrance is essential for the attraction of pollinators and responses to biotic and abiotic stresses. It also enhances the quality and economic value of plants. Phytohormones, acting as key signaling molecules, are crucial roles in regulating plant growth and development. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the biosynthesis of fragrance-related volatiles and their crosstalk with other endogenous signals within plants remain largely unknown. Here, we identified a sesquiterpene synthase gene, CmEβFS , in chrysanthemum, which encodes a catalytic enzyme responsible for synthesizing the key fragrance-related compound ( E )-β-farnesene. We demonstrated that CmEβFS is negatively regulated by CmWRKY1, thereby inhibiting ( E )-β-farnesene biosynthesis. Furthermore, CmWRKY1 interacts with the salicylic acid (SA) receptor CmNPR3 to regulate SA-mediated CmEβFS transcription. Our findings reveal that SA regulates ( E )-β-farnesene biosynthesis by controlling CmEβFS expression via the CmWRKY1-CmNPR3 module during floral development. These findings enhanced our understanding of the mechanisms underlying SA-mediated regulation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) biosynthesis and provided insights into improving floral fragrance.

A cyclodextrin-liposome system (CL) was developed to encapsulate dihydromyricetin (DMY), to improve its water solubility, bioavailability, and to mask its bitter taste, thus expanding its application in the food field. The dihydromyricetin-cyclodextrin-liposome (DCL) prepared by film dispersion method showed a multivesicular structure with an average particle size of 86.77 nm and an encapsulation rate of 58.4 %. The stability analyzer showed that the DCL had excellent physical stability (instability index: 0.023 ± 0.003) and exhibited good slow-release properties. QCM-D analysis of DCL effectively inhibited the binding of DMY and mucin. The electronic tongue indicated that DCL significantly masked the bitterness of DMY. In vivo pharmacokinetic studies showed that the AUC 0–90min and Cmax of DMY delivered by DCL significantly increased by 5.83-fold and 3.38-fold, respectively, compared with the control group. This study provides a proof-of-concept for the development of an efficient DMY delivery strategy, which is expected to greatly contribute to its potential application in the field of functional foods.

Expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (e-PTFE) is extensively used in medical implants for its excellent bioinertness. Existing methods to fix e-PTFE implants on host tissues mainly use invasive anchorage such as sutures, spiral tacks, or metal skeletons, which has limitations such as being time-consuming and causing leakage and tissue damage. To overcome these limitations, we introduce a bioadhesive interface to realize the adhering fixation of e-PTFE implants. We integrate a hydrophilic and bioadhesive hydrogel layer on the hydrophobic and bioinert e-PTFE by designing a facile approach of freezing-induced micromechanical interlocking. The integration is robust enough as pulling hydrogel out of the interlocked pores on e-PTFE requires large energy dissipation. This bioadhesive interface enables instant (operating time < 10 seconds) and secure (adhesion energy >200 joules per square meter) adhering fixation of e-PTFE implants to wet tissue. The advantages for reducing inflammatory response, fibrogenesis, and the resultant postoperative adhesion are further demonstrated in a reconstructive surgery of an abdominal wall defect in rabbits.

Background L -5-Methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF) is the sole biologically active form of folate present in human blood and serves as an essential nutritional supplement. While microbial biosynthesis of 5-MTHF offers a sustainable alternative to chemical synthesis, its low yield limits industrial potential. Results In this study, strategies for improving the methyl supply combined with engineering the tetrahydrofolate (THF) synthetic pathway were employed in E. coli to increase 5-MTHF production. First, a new exogenous C1 pathway was introduced to improve the intracellular methyl supply through acetyl-CoA breakdown. High expression of key rate-limiting genes folE , folP and purU enhanced metabolic flux of THF pathway, resulting in a 5-MTHF titer of 1.075 mg/L during shake-flask fermentation. A subsequent increase in 5-MTHF production was achieved by knocking out the metE gene, which is involved in the consumption of 5-MTHF. The best engineered strain, M3012, produced 8.2 mg/L 5-MTHF in a 5 L bioreactor via fed-batch fermentation, which presented the highest 5-MTHF titer to date. Conclusion We successfully engineered E. coli by introducing a novel exogenous C1 metabolic pathway to augment the methyl donor pool essential for the biosynthesis of 5-MTHF. Further metabolic optimizations, including the enhancement of the THF precursor flux and the elimination of competing degradation pathways, developed a recombinant strain with significantly increased yield, which paves the way for industrial production of 5-MTHF.
