Herein, a series of novel Ti 3 C 2 T x /p-BN heterojunctions with excellent photocatalytic activity have been prepared by combining one-dimensional (1D) porous BN fibers (p-BN) with high aspect ratio and two-dimensional (2D) ultrathin Ti 3 C 2 T x MXenes for photocatalytic conversion of CO 2 -to-CO. Our results show that the optimized photocatalyst can photo-reduce CO 2 to generate CO under UV light with CO yield of 22.53 μmol g −1 h −1 , which is 4.3 and 20.1 times of p-BN (5.23 μmol g −1 h −1 ) and Ti 3 C 2 T x (1.23 μmol g −1 h −1 ), respectively. We demonstrate that the Ti 3 C 2 T x /p-BN heterojunction can combine the efficient CO 2 adsorption of porous p-BN and excellent electronic conductivity of Ti 3 C 2 T x . Moreover, the interfacial Ti-O-B bonds lead to strong interaction between p-BN and Ti 3 C 2 T x , resulting in the formation of Schottky heterojunction. The synergistic effect not only enables the adsorption of CO 2 by Ti 3 C 2 T x /p-BN heterojunction higher than p-BN, but also accelerates the transfer and separation of photogenerated carriers in p-BN, which finally exhibits promoted CO 2 photocatalytic activity. The present work pioneer the application of Ti 3 C 2 T x /p-BN heterojunction in photocatalytic CO 2 reduction and further guides the design of noble-metal-free photocatalysts.

A novel B,N-decorated carbocatalyst (Fe@BPC-XBN) for peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation was prepared by a simple pyrolysis method using the iron-based metal organic frameworks (Fe-MOF), boric acid and boron nitride (BN) as precursors. Fe@BPC-20BN removed 93.3% of bisphenol A (BPA) in 90 min compared to 64.9%, 82.1% and 83.5% with Fe@PC, Fe@BPC and Fe@PC-20BN, respectively, with 0.15 g/L catalyst and 1 mM PMS at initial pH of 7. The solo B-doping with boron acid on the Fe-MOF derived porous carbon enhanced its catalytic capacity; moreover, B, N co-doping with BN and boron acid as precursors further promoted the catalytic performance. The addition of BN not only provided more B, N catalytic centers but also improved the stability of the carbocatalyst. In addition, hydroxyl radicals , sulfate radicals, superoxide radicals, and singlet oxygen species were involved in the degradation of BPA. Fe species, –BCO 2 /–BC 2 O, pyridinic N, and pyrrolic N groups on the carbon matrix played the important roles in the BPA degradation. The outstanding catalytic performance of Fe@BPC-20BN could be attributed to the synergistic effects between iron nanoparticles and the B/N codoped carbon matrix. This study gives new insights into the design and preparation of high-efficient B,N-decorated carbocatalysts for environmental remediation.

With the soaring development of device integration, miniaturization, and high frequency, electric devices have put forward synchronous and urgent requirements for thermal management composites with insulation, high thermal conductivity (TC), and low dielectric properties. However, due to phonon scattering and interfacial polarization, these performance requirements are difficult to meet simultaneously. In this work, based on the principles of interfacial engineering, hexagonal boron nitride (BN) was functionalized with methylvinyldimethoxysilane (MVDMS), and poly(phenylene oxide) (PPO) was modified by methacrylic anhydride. Owing to the introduction of reactive groups, the reaction between modified BN (BN@Si) and modified PPO (MPPO) in the mixing process enhances the interfacial forces, improves filler dispersions, and helps to reduce phonon scattering and interfacial polarization. The resulting polymer composites have a high TC of 5.21 W/(m K) at 70 wt % filler loading, 20.7 times than that of the pure MPPO resin, low dielectric loss of 0.00252, and high thermal stability. It is shown that interfacial regulation is crucial for BN@Si/poly(phenylene oxide) composites. The obtained composites hold great potential as thermal management materials for 5G electronic devices.

The high thermal conductivity epoxy resin composites filled with inorganic filler can improve the low thermal conductivity of epoxy resin. However, a large number of fillers with high thermal conductivity will reduce other properties of the composites, which limits their use under high voltage, high temperature and strong mechanical force during operation. In this study, the dopamine-modified BN (DBN) and k-DBN (DBN modified by coupling agent KH-560) were prepared by employed the dopamine with catechol groups and coupling agent to modify boron nitride. The thermal conductivity, thermal stability, and dielectric properties of composites with different contents of modified fillers were studied. The results showed that surface modification improved the dispersibility of BN in the resin matrix and compatibility with the resin. Among BN/EP, DBN/EP, k-DBN/EP composites, k-DBN/EP composites had the highest thermal conductivity at the same number of additions. When the k-DBN/EP content was 30 wt%, the thermal conductivity of the composite was 0.892 W/(m·K), which was an increase of 25.5% compared with the BN/EP composite. The appropriate amount of BN filling (20 wt%) can improve the breakdown strength of the composite material.

Graphite anode (specific capacity is only 372 mA h g −1 ) for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) is not enough for high energy and high power density demands. In this work, MOF-5 was used as a precursor to prepare a porous carbon material embedded with BN (Boron Nitride), while B and N elements will enhance the electron transport speed thus improving the conductivity simultaneously. A large specific surface area of 1790.19 m 2 g −1 was provided with this material because of embedding of lamellar BN, therefore it caused excellent cycling stability and high capacity characteristics in LIBs. The capacity retention is 1290 mA h g −1 at 200 mA g −1 and 683 mA h g −1 at 2000 mA g −1 . This material provides a solution for improving the performance of LIBs, and it can also be a reference for the development in other fields.

The Cu-intercalated layered h-BN/N-doped carbon-nanofiber composite films (PAN-Cu/ABN-CNFs) were successfully prepared by the combination of the electrospinning technique and the one-pot carbonization process, using the mixed solution of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) and Cu-intercalated activated boron nitride (Cu/ABN) as carbon precursor. A series of characterizations proved that the PAN-Cu/ABN-CNFs possessed the distinguished merits in the structure and composition, such as the pore feature of the micropore (0.076 cm 3 /g)-mesoporous (0.3582 cm 3 /g) structure, the structure of the exfoliated h-BN nanosheets , the low-coordination high-content N (11.65 at%) and the existence of self-reducing Cu nanoparticles (0.5 at%). For adapting the actual application, the mechanical properties of the PAN-Cu/ABN-CNFs were comprehensively evaluated, showing that the PAN-Cu/ABN-CNFs films had the robust tensile strength and bending properties as well as the desirable wear resistance. Furthermore, the selective adsorption desulphurization of the PAN-Cu/ABN-CNFs were examined by the selective adsorption removal of thiophene (TH) from the simulated oil, indicating that the optimum adsorption capacity of the fresh films was up to 78.38 mg/g in 800 mg/L initial concentration and the adsorption capacity after the four-time regeneration recycling still approached 74.894 mg/g. Finally, the adsorption kinetics , isotherm and thermodynamic studies suggested that the adsorption behavior of TH over the PAN-Cu/ABN-CNFs should be better described by the correlation coefficients of Avrami fractional-order kinetics and Liu isotherm, while the thermodynamic studies showed a favorable exothermic and spontaneous adsorption mechanism.

A series of MoO x -promoted Ir/BN catalysts were tested for liquid phase selective hydrogenation of crotonaldehyde. The MoO x -promotion could significantly improve the reactivity up to 5-fold. Such improvement was mainly due to the formation of Ir-MoO x interfacial sites in the promoted catalyst, which accelerated the adsorption and activation of crotonaldehyde molecule as evidenced by a much lower activation energy (18.9 kJ mol −1 on the 0.3Mo-3Ir/BN versus 38.4 kJ mol −1 on the 3Ir/BN). The kinetic results revealed negative reaction order of crotonaldehyde (up to -1.1) and high reaction order of H 2 (up to 2.2), indicating the high coverage of crotonaldehyde on the catalyst surface suppressed the adsorption of H 2 due to its low solubility in the liquid phase. Therefore, the adsorption and activation of H 2 on the catalyst might be the rate determining step. However, the preferred adsorption of crotonaldehyde on the Ir-MoO x interface alleviated the suppression of H 2 adsorption, which was another reason for the higher activity.

Toxic dyes in wastewater will become a significant hazard to human health if they are not treated effectively. Therefore, it is significant to separate and remove dyes from the aqueous solution. C and O co-doped BN (BCNO) with high adsorption capacity and outstanding cycle efficiency is a simple and efficient adsorbent for the cationic dye malachite green (MG). Glucose is characterized as an eco-friendly and cheap source of C and O. Benefited by the high specific surface area (1515.6 m 2 /g), the maximum adsorption capacity of MG is 1511.1 mg/g. Besides, the curves of adsorption fitting correspond to the Langmuir model and the pseudo-second-order model, respectively. Moreover, after 5 cycles, the adsorption efficiency reached 78% of the first time and the adsorption capacity remained above 780 mg/g. Furthermore, in the selectivity adsorption study, the cationic dyes (MG, neutral red (NR), methylene blue (MB)) can be removed more effectively in the binary dye system of MG-methyl orange (MO), NR-MO, MB-MO, MG-Orange II (OR), MB-OR, or NR-OR. BCNO-2 has a promising application in the removal of cationic dyes from complex dye wastewaters.

h -BN-SiC ceramic composites with different SiC contents were fabricated by spark plasma sintering . The results indicate that the addition of hard SiC particles has a remarkable effect on the densification, microstructure, mechanical properties and thermal shock resistance of the composites. Compared with pure h -BN ceramic, the relative density and mechanical properties of h -BN-SiC ceramic composites were improved obviously. The optimal properties of h -BN-SiC ceramic composites were obtained at SiC content of 25%, and the relative density, flexural strength and fracture toughness reached 97.8%, 289.2 MPa and 3.45 MPa m 1/2 , respectively. Moreover, the relationship of fracture toughness and fracture mode was discussed. The thermal shock test results showed that the h -BN-SiC ceramic composite with the SiC content of 25% exhibited excellent thermal shock resistance, presenting critical temperature difference up to 900 °C. The high temperature oxidation of h -BN and SiC on material surface led to the formation of borosilicate glass phase, which could heal the surface microcracks and then improve the thermal shock resistance.

Developing high-performance of organic solid lubricating coating is of great significance for extending the life of the moving systems/parts. Herein, the non-covalently modified h-BN nanosheets by graphene oxide (BNNSs/GO) were elaborately constructed to enhance the mechanical, friction and wear properties of epoxy nanocomposite coating. The microstructure feature and chemical composition of BNNSs/GO were determined by various spectroscopic techniques. The tribological performance of nanocomposite coatings were tested using ball-on-disc friction tester, and 440C stainless-steel ball with diameter of 8 mm was used as the counterface material. The GO nanosheets acted an active platform for BNNSs, which improved the dispersion of BNNSs and interface interaction with epoxy. The anchoring BNNSs could break the strong π-π, and van der Walls forces among GO nanosheets. The thickness of epoxy nanocomposite coatings was about 60 μm. And the epoxy-1.0 wt%BNNSs/GO demonstrated much higher hardness and elastic modulus than epoxy, increased by 112.62 % and 53.37 %, respectively. The coefficient of friction (COF) and wear rate of epoxy-1.0 wt%BNNSs/GO were the lowest, with a reduction of 89.7 % and 97.5 %, respectively. The synergistic lubricating mechanism of epoxy-BNNSs/GO coating was proposed, which could provide a new light on the design of high antifriction and wear resistance of organic nanocomposite coating.

Composite polymer materials featured superior thermal conductivity, flame retardancy, and electromagnetic shielding performance are increasingly in demand due to the rapid development of highly miniaturized, portable, and flexible electronic devices. Herein, a facile and green ball milling shear method is utilized for generating MXene@Boron nitride (MXene@BN). The multi-functional fillers (MXene@BN) are constructed and incorporated into polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) to prepare a multifunctional composite (PDMS/MXene@BN) for achieving improved electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding performance and thermal conductivity as well as flame retardancy simultaneously. When the PDMS/MXene@BN composite has a MXene@BN loading of 2.4 wt.%, it exhibits a high thermal conductivity of 0.59 W m −1 K −1 , which is 210% higher than that of the pure PDMS matrix. This is attributed to its unique chestnut-like double-layer structure. With a smoke production rate (SPR) of 0.04 m 2 s −1 and total smoke production (TSP) of 3.51 m 2 , PDMS/MXene@BN 2.4 composite exhibits superb smoke suppression properties. These SPR and TSP values are 63.20% and 63.50% lower than the corresponding values of pure PDMS. Moreover, the EMI SE of the PDMS/MXene@BN 2.4 can reach 26.3 dB at 8.5 GHz. The work reported herein provides valuable insight into developing composites with multiple functions, which show strong potential for application in advanced packaging materials.
