Fe3O4 nanospheres deposited on Prussian blue analogue-derived Ni-Co/CNTs networks for electromagnetic wave absorption

Qi Qu,Huanhuan Wang,Qianpeng Dong,Yan He

In the current work, Ni-Co/CNTs networks were firstly produced by a simple annealing treatment of Ni Co PBA, which was then used as a carbon-based carrier and successfully deposited Fe 3 O 4 nanospheres via a classic hydrothermal reaction process. Additionally, the electromagnetic wave absorption performances of composites could be effectively affected by adjusting the mass ratio of the Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles . The minimum reflection loss (RL min ) of −48.76 dB was achieved for Fe 3 O 4 @Ni-Co/CNTs-1# at 3.5 mm thickness. Meanwhile, Fe 3 O 4 @Ni-Co/CNTs-2# exhibited a wide effective absorption band (EAB) of 5.9 GHz (12.1–18 GHz) at a 2.0 mm matching thickness, suggesting that the Fe 3 O 4 @Ni-Co/CNTs composites were a promising absorber for electromagnetic wave absorption materials . Based on the synergistic effects of dielectric and magnetic losses generated by Ni-Co/CNTs and Fe 3 O 4 , respectively, and appropriately matched impedances, a new strategy for fabricating lightweight, thin-thickness, strong absorption, and wide-bandwidth materials was provided.

Micro-electrolysis based nitrate reduction from aqueous solution by CNTs-Al-Cu composite under alkaline environment

Zhiyu Wei,Jie Chen,Hongjin Tong,Mingchao Sun,Jing Tian,Lu Fan

CNTs-Al was prepared by ball milling combined with sintering process and then used for CNTs-Al-Cu synthesis with chemical deposition method. The obtained CNTs-Al-Cu composite was systematically characterized and its NO 3 − -N reduction performance under alkaline condition was also evaluated. As indicated by the reduction batch experiment, 80.2% of NO 3 − -N removal efficiency was obtained in 90 min at pH of 9. The product of the reduction process was dominated by NO 2 − -N, which was further reduced to harmless N 2 . The reusability of CNTs-Al-Cu composite was evaluated, and the experiment results showed that 68.1% of NO 3 − -N removal efficiency was maintained after 3 cycles of regeneration. Finally, based on the characterization results and kinetic analysis, it was concluded that micro-electrolysis was mainly responsible for the removal of NO 3 − -N by CNTs-Al-Cu.

Facile synthesis of MoSe2/carbon nanotubes (CNTs) composite with improved electrochemical performance for lithium/sodium storage

Zhang Canping,Zhang Jiahao,Fu Yajing,Liu Jianwen,Wang Shiquan,Wang Yingxi

MoSe 2 /carbon nanotubes (CNTs) composite was synthesized by a hydrothermal method and followed by annealing in Ar gas using Na 2 MoO 4 ·2H 2 O, CN 2 H 4 Se, and NH 2 OH·HCl as reactants in the presence of CNTs. The products were characterized by X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results show that the introduction of CNTs plays a crucial role in the morphology and electrochemical performance as anode materials for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) and sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). The MoSe 2 /CNT electrode exhibits a high reversible capacity of 1140 mAh g −1 and 1014 mAh g −1 at the current density of 100 mA g −1 for LIBs and SIBs, respectively. The MoSe 2 /CNT electrode exhibits higher capacity, better cycling stability compared with the bare MoSe 2 . The MoSe 2 and MoSe 2 /CNT composite behave good electrochemical properties may be due to their flower-like nanosheets, well-stacked layers, and 3D CNTs networks. The results suggest that the MoSe 2 /CNT composite could be a promising anode material for LIB and SIB applications. Moreover, our present work provides a new approach for the fabrication of well-crystalline MoSe 2 material and further applications in lithium/sodium storage.

Antimony/Polypyrrole/CNTs composites with three-dimensional structure as highly stable anodes for potassium ion battery

Yang Yang,Wanzhihan Zhang,Yiqun Liu,Ling Li,Xiaohui Zhao,Wenming Zhang

Antimony (Sb)-based materials are attractive as anodes in potassium ion batteries (PIBs). However, poor cycling and volume expansion of the Sb-based anodes hinder their development in PIBs. In this work, we prepared a novel three-dimensional Sb nanoparticle/polypyrrole/carbon nanotube (Sb/PPy/CNT) hybrid anode material. The obtained Sb/PPy/CNT maintained a discharge capacity of 555.1 mAh g −1 after 200 cycles at a current density of 100 mA g −1 , and 347.5 mAh g −1 after 600 cycles at a high current density of 1000 mA g −1 , showing outstanding potassium storage capacity and cycling performance. This excellent performance was attributed to the array of electron transfer networks formed in the hydrogel network, as well as inhibition of the volume expansion exhibited by potassium ions during embedding/detachment of the CNTs and Sb nanoparticles arising from encapsulation by PPy films. This study provides a prerequisite for expanding the use of high-performance anode materials for PIBs.

Controllable Preparation of Cu NPs/CNTs@PANI Composites as Electrode Materials for Electrochemical Double-Layer Capacitors

Xuesong Shan,Keru Song,Fengyue Shi,Dongyu Zhao

Copper nanoparticles are uniformly supported on acidified carbon nanotubes (CNTs/Cu NPs) by a mild liquid-phase reduction method without surfactants or bridging molecules. The surface of copper nanoparticles is smooth without impurities. Then, polystyrene (PS) microspheres are prepared by emulsion polymerization and composited with CNTs/Cu NPs (CNTs/Cu NPs/PS). Nanocopper/carbon nanotubes as the core and polyaniline as the shell were prepared via situ polymerization as a core–shell structure (PANI@CNTs/Cu NPs/PS). At a high temperature, the PS cracks and eliminates materials, forming porous structures, and the polyaniline is carbonized, realizing nitrogen doping of the material (NCMP). The results indicated that the acidified carbon nanotubes played a crucial role in the synthesis procedure, achieving consistent growth of copper on carbon nanotubes. The size of evenly dispersed copper nanoparticles is about 5–15 nm. When NCMP is applied as an electrode material, it demonstrates excellent electrochemical performance as a high-performance supercapacitor.

Flexible conductive Ag-CNTs sponge with corrosion resistance for wet condition sensing and human motion detection

Mengnan Qu,Qinghua Liu,Fan Shi,Yanqing Lv,Hui Liu,Leihuan Mu,Xiaofeng Liu,Jinmei He

Three-dimensional (3D) polyurethane (PU) sponges featuring high mechanical elasticity, compressibility , and durability have emerged as an ideal substrate for building wearable strain sensors. However, the 3D porous structures easily soak up rain, water vapor , sweat, etc., and the constructed sensor’s long-term conductivity may be eroded by droplets and experience irreversible damage, rendering the preparation of a wearable flexible sponge sensor with environmental adaptation challenging. Here, by reducing the Ag particles in the carbon nanotube (CNT) suspension, forming a conductive filler Ag-CNTs, and combining with poly (vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) solution, surface modification with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) solution, the PDMS/Ag-CNT-PVDF/PU sponge sensor with 3D conductive network and superhydrophobic structure was fabricated. The results revealed that this modified sponge had a wide strain detection range of 0–80 %, superior conductive sensitivity up to 4.24 kPa −1 in 0–20 kPa, and a fast and stable response time (170 ms) with great reproducibility over 1200 compression-resilience cycles. Furthermore, good superhydrophobicity endows the sensor with remarkable resistance to mechanical wear and chemical corrosion, which can be effectively used to detect human motion in high air humidity environment. This PDMS/Ag-CNTs-PVDF/PU sponge sensor is expected to be used as a practical, flexible wearable sensor and demonstrates potential application prospects in complex environments.

Nano valent zero iron (NZVI) immobilized CNTs hollow fiber membrane for flow-through heterogeneous Fenton process

Menghan Sun,Liangzhi Zou,Pengcheng Wang,Xinfei Fan,Zonglin Pan,Yanming Liu,Chengwen Song

Fenton , a conventional technology , has been widely employed for wastewater purification, but it still suffers from the unsatisfactory capability for pollutants degradation . Herein, a membrane-based Fenton process was proposed by immobilizing nano zero valent iron (NZVI) in a CNT membrane (Fe 0 -CNT catalytic membrane) for accelerating pollutants degradation efficiency. It realizes a promotion on·OH generation rate from H 2 O 2 catalyzed by NZVI catalyst owing to the cycle of between ferrous and ferric ions during the Fenton process. Meanwhile, mass transfer improvement can be achieved due to the liquid convection in the membrane pore via the flow-through process. As a result, the Fe 0 -CNT catalytic membrane presented a high removal efficiency of 98% for bisphenol A (BPA) under an optimum operation condition. Also, the prepared Fe 0 -CNT catalytic membrane showed excellent degradation efficiency for other organic contaminants , such as phenol (80.6%), sulfamethoxazole (SMX, 95.5%) and paracetamol (ACM, 84.1%). Furthermore, the environmental factors (various of anion ions, such as Cl - , HCO 3 - and NO 3 - and natural organic matter) presented negligible influences on organic pollutants degradation via Fe 0 -CNT catalytic membrane, suggesting a good potential for factual wastewater treatment application. Based on the results, this work introduces a novel insight into the design of highly efficient Fenton process using membrane-based catalyst for pollution abatement .

Sensitive and direct electrochemical detection of bisphenol S based on 1T&2H-MoS2/CNTs-NH2 nanocomposites

Lingli Zhang,Han Tao,Chun Ji,Qiaoling Wu,Xiao Wang,Yuangeng Wu

As an alternative to bisphenol A (BPA), bisphenol S (BPS) is widely used in many consumer goods and industrial products. However, BPS has similar genotoxic, reproductive and endocrine disrupting effects to BPA and can enter the body through the food chain or by dermal absorption to endanger human health. This paper presents a rapid and direct electrochemical sensing technique for ultra-trace BPS determination on the basis of the signal amplification of the 1T phase & 2H phase hybrid MoS2 nanosheets (1T&2H-MoS2) and amino-functionalized carbon nanotube (CNTs-NH2) composites. The cooperative electrocatalytic effect and high-electrically active surface area of 1T&2H-MoS2/CNTs-NH2 composites not only facilitated the electron transfer between BPS and the electrode, but also promoted the adsorption of BPS on the electrode. Hence, the 1T&2H-MoS2/CNTs-NH2 modified electrode exhibited excellent electrocatalytic activity with a lower oxidation potential and higher peak current for BPS. Under the optimized conditions, the peak current response of BPS showed a good dose-dependent relationship with its concentration in the range of 0.02–1.0 μM and 1.0–70.0 μM, while the detection limit was as low as 8.6 nM. The proposed method was used to determine BPS in the mineral water bottle and orange juice samples with satisfactory spiked recoveries between 92.31% and 104.20%, demonstrating its reliability and practicality in real sample analysis. Furthermore, the sensing method has the characteristics of facile electrode fabrication, fast response (<4 min) and good reproducibility.

Integrating thermal energy storage and microwave absorption in phase change material-encapsulated core-sheath MoS2@CNTs

Panpan Liu,Yang Li,Zhaodi Tang,Junjun Lv,Piao Cheng,Xuemei Diao,Yu Jiang,Xiao Chen,Ge Wang

Developing advanced nanocomposite integrating solar-driven thermal energy storage and thermal management functional microwave absorption can facilitate the cutting-edge application of phase change materials (PCMs). To conquer this goal, herein, two-dimensional MoS 2 nanosheets are grown in situ on the surface of one-dimensional CNTs to prepare core-sheath MoS 2 @CNTs for the encapsulation of paraffin wax (PW). Benefiting from the synergistic enhancement photothermal effect of MoS 2 and CNTs, MoS 2 @CNTs is capable of efficiently trapping photons and quickly transporting phonons, thus yielding a high solar-thermal energy conversion and storage efficiency of 94.97%. Meanwhile, PW/MoS 2 @CNTs composite PCMs exhibit a high phase change enthalpy of 101.60 J/g and excellent long-term thermal storage durability after undergoing multiple heating–cooling cycles. More attractively, PW/MoS 2 @CNTs composite PCMs realize thermal management functional microwave absorption in heat-related electronic application scenarios, which is superior to the single microwave absorption of traditional materials. The minimum reflection loss (RL) for PW/MoS 2 @CNTs is −28 dB at 12.91 GHz with a 2.0 mm thickness. This functional integration design provides some insightful references on developing advanced microwave absorbing composite PCMs, holding great potential towards high-efficiency solar energy utilization and thermally managed microwave absorption fields.

Preparation of the urchin-like structured Ti3C2@CNTs for high-performance lithium storage and microwave absorbers

Fei Wang,Zhaohui Wang,Yuheng Li,Shengjing Guan,Shan Wei,Dong Liu,Xiuxia Meng

Two-dimensional (2D) MXene-based materials are gained significant attention as a prospective anode in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) due to their superior metallic conductivity, high volumetric capacitance, and thermal stability. However, the unsatisfactory electrochemical performance of MXene-based anodes essentially restricts their practical use attributed to the prevalent interlayer stacking. The urchin-like Ti 3 C 2 @CNTs involve grafting carbon nanotubes (CNTs) onto the 3D hollow MXene via catalytic growth could promise to overcome this obstacle. As conductive bridges, the CNTs further expedite the exchange of charges at the interface, resulting in improved electrochemical kinetics of the composite, which exhibits a high specific capacity of 286.2 mA h g −1 at 1 A g −1 after 2000 cycles. Beneficial from the well-designed architecture, outstanding microwave absorption was achieved with the optimal reflection loss of −48.1 dB covering the C band. This study proposed a practical strategy for fabricating the Ti 3 C 2 @CNTs composite in high-performance lithium-ion batteries and microwave absorbers.

One-step production of Pt–CeO2/N-CNTs electrocatalysts with high catalytic performance toward methanol oxidation

Yunqi Yu,Jianting He,Tong Wang,Xinsheng Qiu,Kangcheng Chen,Qin Wu,Daxin Shi,Yaoyuan Zhang,Hansheng Li

Nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes (N-CNTs) prepared by carbonization of polypyrrole nanotubes (PPy-NTs) are used as supports. Pt–CeO 2 /N-CNTs electrocatalysts are successfully prepared by in-situ growth of Pt and CeO 2 nanoparticles (NPs) via a one-step coupling method of co-deposition and ethylene glycol reduction. Through structural characterization and electrochemical tests of the prepared electrocatalysts, the effects of preparation conditions on the structure of the electrocatalysts and their electrocatalytic activity for methanol oxidation were systematically investigated. The results verify that the Pt–CeO 2 /N-CNTs electrocatalysts were prepared using N-CNTs calcined at 700 °C as a support and 15 mM alkali concentration. They have the largest electrochemical active area and methanol oxidation mass activity of 85 m 2  g −1 (Pt) and 722 A g −1 (Pt), respectively. Furthermore, the electrochemical stability and anti-CO poisoning performance of the electrocatalysts are significantly better than those of the commercial Pt/C electrocatalysts. The highly-dispersed Pt and CeO 2 in Pt–CeO 2 /N-CNTs, a large number of N sites, and the synergistic action of Pt, CeO 2 , and N-CNTs result in a catalyst with excellent electrocatalytic activity, stability, and resistance to CO poisoning. The support structure and the dispersion of Pt and CeO 2 can be controlled by changing the preparation conditions, which provides a basis for the industrial application of direct methanol fuel cells.
