Feasible self-healing CL-20 based PBX: Employing a novel polyurethane-urea containing disulfide bonds as polymer binder

Yubin Li,Zhijian Yang,Ling Ding,Liping Pan,Jianhu Zhang,Xue Zheng,Congmei Lin

Damages generated in functional materials can deteriorate their performance and shorten their lifetime, endowing the materials with self-healing ability is expected to resolve this problem. In this work, a novel energetic composite refers to CL-20 based PBX, which can self-heal its mechanical damage under a mild condition, was designed and prepared via incorporating disulfide bonds into the polymeric binder. The highly efficient self-healing polyurethane-urea containing disulfide bonds (DSPU) was synthesized by using the prepolymer of poly(caprolactone) diol (PCL-diol) with isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) as the main-chain to achieve good mechanical toughness, then cross-linking with bis(4-aminophenyl) disulfide (APD) to gain the superior reversibility. The CL-20 based PBX using this DSPU as binder can evidently self-heal its inner damage, i.e. micro-crack, after heating at 60 °C for several hours, and the strength of the damaged sample after Brazilian test can also be recovered to more than 70% of the pristine value.

Gas-phase kinetic and mechanism study of the reactions of O3, OH, Cl and NO3 with unsaturated acetates

Shuyan Wang,Lin Du,Narcisse T. Tsona,Wenxing Wang

Environmental context Acetate esters, emitted into the atmosphere from both natural and anthropogenic sources, can participate in photochemical processes leading to the formation of secondary organic aerosols. We report a study on the kinetics and mechanisms of the reaction of two acetate esters with O3, OH, NO3, and Cl radicals. The results help our understanding of the chemical behaviour of this important class of compounds in the atmosphere. The photodegradation reactions of isopropenyl acetate (IPA) and 2-methyl-2-propenyl acetate (MPA) initiated by O3, OH, Cl and NO3 radicals have been investigated in a 100 L Teflon reactor at 293 ± 3 K, by using gas chromatography with flame-ionisation detection as well as thermal desorption–gas chromatography–mass spectrometry to monitor the reactants and the products. The rate constants for the reactions of IPA and MPA with the four atmospheric oxidants were determined by using either absolute or relative rate methods. The following rate constants (in units of cm3 molecule−1 s−1) were obtained: k(O3 + IPA) = (0.37 ± 0.06) × 10−18, k(OH + IPA) = (6.44 ± 0.74) × 10−11, k(Cl+ IPA) = (4.33 ± 0.52) × 10−10, k(NO3 + IPA) = (1.62 ± 0.22) × 10−14, k(O3 + MPA) = (2.76 ± 0.40) × 10−18, k(OH + MPA) = (7.41 ± 0.92) × 10−11, k(Cl + MPA) = (3.33 ± 0.39) × 10−10, k(NO3 + MPA) = (1.34 ± 0.23) × 10−14. With the exception of the kinetic study of the reactions of O3 and OH with IPA and the mechanistic study of the reaction of IPA with O3, the current research reports the first kinetic and mechanistic investigation for these reactions at atmospheric pressure. Acetic anhydride and 1-acetoxyacetone are the main products of the reactions of IPA and MPA, respectively. On the basis of the products and estimated tropospheric lifetimes of the two esters, reaction mechanisms are proposed and the atmospheric implications are discussed.

CsI Pre-Intercalation in the Inorganic Framework for Efficient and Stable FA1−x CsxPbI3(Cl) Perovskite Solar Cells

Ning Zhou,Yiheng Shen,Yu Zhang,Ziqi Xu,Guanhaojie Zheng,Liang Li,Qi Chen,Huanping Zhou

Engineering the chemical composition of organic and inorganic hybrid perovskite materials is one of the most feasible methods to boost the efficiency of perovskite solar cells with improved device stability. Among the diverse hybrid perovskite family of ABX 3 , formamidinium (FA)-based mixed perovskite (e.g., FA 1− x Cs x PbI 3 ) possesses optimum bandgaps, superior optoelectronic property, as well as thermal- and photostability, which is proven to be the most promising candidate for advanced solar cell. Here, FA 0.9 Cs 0.1 PbI 3 (Cl) is implemented as the light-harvesting layer in planar devices, whereas a low temperature, two-step solution deposition method is employed for the first time in this materials system. This paper comprehensively exploits the role of Cs + in the FA 0.9 Cs 0.1 PbI 3 (Cl) perovskite that affects the precursor chemistry, film nucleation and grain growth, and defect property via pre-intercalation of CsI in the inorganic framework. In addition, the resultant FA 0.9 Cs 0.1 PbI 3 (Cl) films are demonstrated to exhibit an improved optoelectronic property with an elevated device power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 18.6%, as well as a stable phase with substantial enhancement in humidity and thermal stability, as compared to that of FAPbI 3 (Cl). The present method is able to be further extended to a more complicated (FA,MA,Cs)PbX 3 material system by delivering a PCE of 19.8%.

PbCl2-tuned inorganic cubic CsPbBr3(Cl) perovskite solar cells with enhanced electron lifetime, diffusion length and photovoltaic performance

Bo Li,Yanan Zhang,Luyuan Zhang,Longwei Yin

Inorganic CsPbBr 3 perovskite is arousing great interest following after organic-inorganic hybrid halide perovskites, and is found as a good candidate for photovoltaic devices for its prominent photoelectric property and stability. Herein, we for the first time report on PbCl 2 -tuned inorganic Cl-doped CsPbBr 3 (Cl) perovskite solar cells with adjustable crystal structure and Cl doping for enhanced carrier lifetime, extraction rate and photovoltaic performance . The effect of PbCl 2 on the morphologies, structures, optical, and photovoltaic performance of CsPbBr 3 perovskite solar cells is investigated systemically. Compared with orthorhombic CsPbBr 3 , cubic CsPbBr 3 demonstrates a significant improvement for electron lifetime (from 6.7 ns to 12.3 ns) and diffusion length (from 69 nm to 197 nm), as well as the enhanced electron extraction rate from CsPbBr 3 to TiO 2 . More importantly, Cl doping benefits the further enhancement of carrier lifetime (14.3 ns) and diffusion length (208 nm). The Cl doped cubic CsPbBr 3 (Cl) perovskite solar cell exhibits a J sc of 8.47 mA cm −2 and a PCE of 6.21%, superior to that of pure orthorhombic CsPbBr 3 (6.22 mA cm −2 and 3.78%). The improvement of photovoltaic performance can be attributed to enhanced carrier lifetime, diffusion length and extraction rates, as well as suppressed nonradiative recombination.

One-Step Preparation of Cesium Lead Halide CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, and I) Perovskite Nanocrystals by Microwave Irradiation

Huiwen Liu,Zhennan Wu,Hang Gao,Jieren Shao,Haoyang Zou,Dong Yao,Yi Liu,Hao Zhang,Bai Yang

CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) nanocrystals (NCs) are competitive emitting materials for illumination and display because of their outstanding photophysical properties. However, the conventional synthetic approaches suffer from low yields, complex procedures, and toxic chemicals. In this work, we demonstrate a one-step microwave-assisted approach to prepare CsPbX3 NCs. The homogeneous heating and rapid temperature increment of microwave preparation facilitate the growth of CsPbX3 NCs, producing the NCs with high photoluminescence quantum yields up to 90%, narrow emission full-width at half-maximum, and emission color tunable from blue to red. By optimizing the preparation conditions of the microwave-assisted approach, CsPbX3 NCs with cation- and halide anion-controlled emission properties, tunable reaction rate, and enhanced stability are prepared. Light-emitting diode (LED) prototypes are further fabricated by employing the as-prepared CsPbX3 NCs as the color conversion materials on commercially available 365 nm GaN LED chips.

Co-Al hydrotalcite assembled nanofibers to enhance corrosion inhibition and effective Cl− adsorption for long-term corrosion protection

Lin Cao,Jinming Piao,Wei Wang,Weijie Fan,Dongxiao Han,Yantong Pei,Ye Chen,Yue Zhang

To enhance corrosion resistance and extend the service life of coatings, layered double hydroxides (LDH) have been embedded into coatings to create a hybrid of organic–inorganic micro/nano-containers, improving the coatings’ physical barrier properties. Herein, an elaborately designed strategy is proposed to in-situ grow LDH on nanofibers , thereby obtaining polyvinylidene difluoride/hydrotalcite@deprotonated benzotriazole (PVDF/LDH@BTA − ) composite nanofibers , followed by incorporation into an epoxy resin to formulate the composite coating. The even distribution of LDH within the coating, aided by nanofibers, significantly bolstered the coating’s barrier effect. Upon exposure to corrosive environments, the hydrotalcite structure within PVDF/LDH@BTA − adsorbs chloride ions through anion exchange, capturing up to 0.26 mmol/cm 2 of chloride ions. Concurrently, corrosion inhibitors were released, forming a protective layer on the copper surface to substantially mitigate the corrosion process. This innovative approach markedly enhances the composite coating’s long-term corrosion resistance.

Activation or passivation: Influence of halogen dopant (F, Cl, Br) on photothermal activity of Mn2O3 in degrading toluene

Xiao Yu,Mengyi Shi,Yixuan Fan,Lixia Yang,Jie Zhang,Wei Liu,Weili Dai,Shuqu Zhang,Lei Zhou,Xubiao Luo,Shenglian Luo

Mn 2 O 3 is an exceptional earth-abundant mineral that has been extensively applied in catalytic oxidation because of the strong redox couples like Mn 3+ /Mn 2+ and Mn 4+ /Mn 3+ exposed on Mn 2 O 3 surface. Herein, the catalytic activity of Mn 2 O 3 in photothermal degradation of toluene was regulated by halogens including F - , Cl -, and Br - . As the electronegativity ordered in F (3.98) > O (3.44) > Cl (3.16) > Br (2.96), F - doped Mn 2 O 3 overperforms Cl - doped and Br - doped Mn 2 O 3 in decomposing toluene. DFT theoretical calculation illustrates that F - attracts the shared electrons from Mn to itself, the deviated charge center stretches the adjacent Mn-O bonds and boosts the generation of abundant oxygen vacancies, helping to strengthen the catalytic activity of Mn 2 O 3 . Conversely, Mn-O bonds are shortened by Cl - and Br - that have lower electronegativity than O. The multiple electrons circling Cl - and Br - push Mn towards O and squeeze Mn-O bonds, resulting in the formation of passivated Mn 2 O 3 . In conjunction with Mn redox couples and oxygen vacancies, 99% of 400 ppm toluene can be eliminated by F - doped Mn 2 O 3 , corresponding mineralization rate is high up to 95.8%.

Electron-Rich Co Sites via Heterointerface Engineering Enable Cl– Repulsion and OH– Affinity for Efficient Seawater Hydrogen Evolution

Kun Lang,Yuanyingxue Gao,Xudong Xiao,Qi Li,Mingyang Liu,Jianan Liu,Huiquan Gu,Wei Wu,Huiyuan Meng,Baojiang Jiang

Seawater electrolysis offers a sustainable pathway for green hydrogen production, but chloride-induced side reactions, particularly chlorine evolution (ClER), limit the stability and efficiency of catalysts. Based on an interface-engineering strategy, a bifunctional CoP–MXene electrocatalyst was designed and fabricated, in which electrons are transferred from the Ti sites of the MXene support to the adjacent Co active centers of CoP. This directional electron donation modulates the Co electronic structure, generating electron-rich Co sites that effectively suppress Cl– adsorption via electronic repulsion while preserving the OH– reaction pathways through favorable proton–electron coupling. X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) spectroscopy, in situ Raman spectroscopy, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations further validate this electron modulation mechanism. In 1 M KOH electrolyte, CoP–MXene achieves a hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) overpotential of only 93 mV at 10 mA cm–2 and an oxygen evolution reaction (OER) current density of 50 mA cm–2 at 346 mV. In alkaline seawater, CoP–MXene exhibits exceptional HER performance (10 mA cm–2 @ 101 mV). Moreover, in an anion exchange membrane (AEM) electrolyzer (at 2 A cm–2 current density), the catalyst maintains over 500 h of stability in seawater with only 8.5% current decay, significantly outperforming the control samples. This study provides a new design strategy for the development of chloride-resistant electrocatalysts, advancing the application of seawater electrolysis technologies.

Coupling effect of adipic acid and Cl- on anodic dissolution of SAC305 solder alloy for printed circuit boards

Shiyao Du,Dongfang Jia,Xin Guo,Jinke Wang,Zhibin Chen,Lingwei Ma,Dawei Zhang

The coupling effect of adipic acid and Cl - on the corrosion of SAC305 solder alloy is systematically investigated. Electrochemical measurements prove that Cl - could completely destroy the protectiveness of adipic acid and accelerate metal corrosion. Morphology characterizations and XPS analyses verify that the amount of adsorbed adipic acid on the metal surface is largely reduced due to competitive adsorption of Cl - . TEM and Mott-Schottky tests further reveal that the defect density of the oxide film developed in Cl - environment is three times higher than that in adipic acid, which is responsible for the faster anodic dissolution.

Novel near-UV-excitable Eu3+ doped K3Ca2(SO4)3× (X = F, Cl, Br) halosulphate phosphors for white LEDs

Jianwei Dao,Liang Yang,Zhihao Jiang,Zihao Han,Tiqin Wei

Narrow-band red inorganic phosphors excited by near-ultraviolet (n-UV) light have significant application potential in the manufacture of white light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with high R9 index. Novel near-UV-excitable Eu 3+ doped K 3 Ca 2 (SO 4 ) 3 × (X = F, Cl, Br) halosulphate phosphors were synthesized via high-temperature solid-state reaction method. By modifying the non-activating ions in the host matrix, the luminescence properties of Eu 3+ were effectively enhanced across various matrices, thereby optimizing the performance of this series of phosphors. As-prepared phosphors can be activated under 397 nm excitation and emit red light at 619 nm, corresponding to 5 D 0  →  7 F 2 transitions of Eu 3+ . Optimization of the doping concentration revealed that the optimal Eu 3+ concentration for different host matrices is 0.13. Notably, the K 3 Ca 2 (SO 4 ) 3 F host matrix doped with Eu 3+ exhibits stronger emission intensity and better performance. The K 3 Ca 2 (SO 4 ) 3 F:0.13Eu 3+ phosphor exhibited long fluorescence lifetime of 0.42 ms and high color purity of 92.25 %. The emission intensity of K 3 Ca 2 (SO 4 ) 3 F:0.13Eu 3+ at 423 K can retain 89.5 % of its value at room temperature. A white LEDs device was fabricated by mixing and encapsulating K 3 Ca 2 (SO 4 ) 3 F:0.13Eu 3+ phosphor with commercial BaMgAl 10 O 17 :Eu 2+ blue and (Ba, Sr) 2 SiO 4 :Eu 2+ green phosphors onto 397 nm n-UV InGaN chip. The device emits bright white light and exhibits high color rendering index (Ra = 79.9, R9 = 86.5) and a suitable correlated color temperature (CCT = 5915 K) at 50 mA drive current. The results suggest that this work provides new assistance in achieving high color rendering white LEDs excited by n-UV light.

Utilizing the self-stabilizing stage of ZIF-8 for highly efficient in situ Cl capture during PVC pyrolysis

Chenhao Li,Yi Niu,Linlin Yi,Yaoqiang Li,Jia Fu,Fang Tang,Kaiyuan Li,Yanyan Zou

This paper explores the application of zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) in pyrolytic disposal of poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC), with the goal of assessing the in situ catalytic removal and capture effect of ZIF-8 on Cl, elucidating the migration pattern of Cl, revealing the mechanism of in situ Cl capture by ZIF-8. The results demonstrate that excellent catalytic and Cl trapping properties are exhibited by ZIF-8, and an additional 311.1 mg/g of organic Cl from PVC is facilitated to be removed at 250 ºC. The catalytic effect enhances Cl trapping at low temperatures. The solid-solid reaction between PVC and ZIF-8 during in situ pyrolysis significantly improves Cl capture compared to ex situ pyrolysis. During in situ pyrolysis, ZIF-8 shows excellent Cl capture between 250 and 350 ºC, where Cl is primarily captured in the solid phase as inorganic Cl. ZIF-8 achieves optimal Cl capture at 300 ºC, reaching a peak HCl removal rate of 89.5 %. At this temperature, the content of solid-phase inorganic Cl reaches a maximum of 442.0 mg/g, accounting for 78.7 wt% of the total Cl content. The key to Cl capture lies in the chemical adsorption sites of Zn²⁺ and organic ligands in the ZIF-8 structure, which can react with Cl in both solid-solid and gas-solid reactions. Additionally, crystals formed during pyrolysis create an adsorption barrier, ultimately enabling efficient Cl capture.

High-reactivity energetic micro-units achieved by tightly packing AP and CL-20 onto etched porous Al powder

Yanggang Huang,Yong Kou,Ting Chang,Jiaqi Wei,Hongfei Liu,Lei Xiao,Wei Jiang,Gazi Hao

Aiming at the critical issues of uneven dispersion, inadequate interfacial contact, and significant mass/heat transfer resistance inherent in the mechanical mixing process for traditional solid propellant charging, this study proposes a novel strategy for constructing energetic micro-units through core-shell structural design, with the aim of achieving highly reactive and integrated composites tailored for practical solid propellant applications. Using etched aluminum (Al) powder as the core and ammonium perchlorate (AP) together with hexanitrohexaazaisowurtzitane (CL-20) as the composite shell, Al@AP/CL-20 micro-units with uniform coatings of AP/CL-20 and well-defined core-shell structures were successfully fabricated via solvent evaporation. The thermogravimetric-differential scanning calorimetry (TG-DSC) and combustion analyses indicate that Al@AP/CL-20 energetic micro-units exhibit significantly earlier decomposition peak temperature compared to pure AP, larger and more concentrated exothermic peaks, as well as stronger combustion intensity and higher flame temperature than the Al/AP/CL-20 composite in the physical mixture. The result confirms that the Al@AP/CL-20 composite structure can effectively enhance the synergistic effect between components, thereby improving the performance of the micro-units. Moreover, as the etching time increases, the porosity of the Al powder surface rises, leading to a further enhancement in the combustion performance of the Al@AP/CL-20 energetic micro-unit. In particular, when the Al powder etching time reached 5 h and the mass ratio of Al/AP/CL-20 was 1:2:2, the Al@AP/CL-20 micro-units demonstrated the best combustion performance, with the highest light intensity and a maximum flame temperature of 1094 °C — a 49 % improvement over the physically blended sample (PAAC-2) with the same mass ratio. This is attributed to the well-defined core-shell structure, which significantly shortens mass and heat transfer distances between components, and a better-matched oxygen balance that imparts the best combustion efficiency. The study affirms that the core-shell energetic micro-unit strategy effectively overcomes the limitations of conventional mixing methods and provides a pathway for formulating highly reactive solid propellant with enhanced energy release efficiency.
