Electrochemical detection techniques are unable to accurately distinguish isomers with similar structures and properties due to the poor stability and selectivity of some sensors and their susceptibility to environmental interference. Bimetallic synergistically synthesized MOF materials have various types of highly ordered pores and can be used as adsorbent materials and catalyst carriers. Therefore, a composite material was developed to prepare its derivative Cu/Bi@C using a bimetallic organic skeleton (Cu/Bi-MOF) as a precursor, inheriting the large number of active sites on the surface of the MOF and large surface area, while improving the electrochemical response signal. The morphology and structure of the synthesized Cu/Bi@C composites were tested and analyzed by XRD, SEM and other characterization methods, and the electrochemical response of the Cu/Bi@C nanocomposites was analyzed by using an electrochemical workstation. In this study, a simple and highly selective electrochemical method was developed for the simultaneous determination of catechol and catechol quinone. Differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) was used for the simultaneous detection of HQ and CC. The results showed that the Cu/Bi@C electrode was able to efficiently and highly selectively detect both isomers. The Cu/Bi@C electrode could detect HQ and CC in the range of 2–600 μM and 2–800 μM, respectively, under the detection environment of pH = 6.0. The detection limits were 0.08 μM and 0.11 μM (S/N = 3), respectively. The sensor was successfully applied to real samples and showed low detection limits, good recoveries, high selectivity, stability and reproducibility. This provides a new idea for electrochemical detection and is expected to be applied in several fields.

Sintering of active metal species often happens during catalytic reactions, which requires redispersion in a reactive atmosphere at elevated temperatures to recover the activity. Herein, we report a simple method to redisperse sintered Cu catalysts via O 2 -H 2 O treatment at room temperature. In-situ spectroscopic characterizations reveal that H 2 O induces the formation of hydroxylated Cu species in humid O 2 , pushing surface diffusion of Cu atoms at room temperature. Further, surface OH groups formed on most hydroxylable support surfaces such as γ-Al 2 O 3 , SiO 2 , and CeO 2 in the humid atmosphere help to pull the mobile Cu species and enhance Cu redispersion. Both pushing and pulling effects of gaseous H 2 O promote the structural transformation of Cu aggregates into highly dispersed Cu species at room temperature, which exhibit enhanced activity in reverse water gas shift and preferential oxidation of carbon monoxide reactions. These findings highlight the important role of H 2 O in the dynamic structure evolution of supported metal nanocatalysts and lay the foundation for the regeneration of sintered catalysts under mild conditions.

The electrochemical CO 2 reduction reaction (CO 2 RR) to multi‑carbon products offers a promising route for sustainable fuel production, yet achieving high selectivity remains challenging due to the complex interplay between catalyst structure and reaction pathways. Here, we report a rational design of Cu-Cu 2 O/graphene (Cu/G) composites with tunable Cu + /Cu 0 ratios via electrolyte-mediated electrochemical synthesis. By varying tetraalkylammonium/phosphonium electrolytes (TBABF 4 , TBAPF 6 , TBACF 3 SO 3 , TBPBF 4 ), we precisely control Cu oxidation states, as validated by the results of X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and high-resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM). In-situ Fourier transform infrared (In-situ FTIR) spectra and in-situ Raman spectra indicate Cu + -rich surfaces (Cu/G-TBABF 4 ) favor the production of formate via O-bound intermediates, while Cu 0 -dominated interfaces (Cu/G-TBAPF 6 ) promote the formation of CO through C-bound pathways. Mixed Cu + /Cu 0 systems (Cu/G-TBACF 3 SO 3 , Cu/G-TBPBF 4 ) enable C C coupling, with ethylene (FE = 28 %) and ethanol (FE = 30.2 %) selectivity governed by the Cu + /Cu 0 balance. Ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS) results reveal that lower work functions enhance *CO coverage and stabilize C 2+ intermediates, elucidating the electronic structure-activity relationship. This work demonstrates electrolyte-mediated oxidation state engineering as a versatile strategy to steer CO 2 RR pathways, offering a generalizable approach for designing multi-valent electrocatalysts with tailored selectivity.

In this study, copper (Cu) nanoparticles (NPs)-modified Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene nanosheets (Ti 3 C 2 T x @Cu) were synthesized via chemical reduction. Subsequently, Ti 3 C 2 T x @Cu/Cu composite powder was synthesized via low-energy ball milling, followed by rapid hot pressing to fabricate Ti 3 C 2 T x @Cu/Cu composites. The influence of Ti 3 C 2 T x @Cu content on the microstructure, mechanical properties, and tribological performance of Ti 3 C 2 T x @Cu/Cu composites was systematically investigated. With increasing Ti 3 C 2 T x @Cu content (0–10 vol%), the Brinell hardness of the composites gradually increased, while the tensile strength showed an initial increase to a maximum of 311.59 MPa at 3 vol%, and then gradually decreased. The main reason for this improvement was the enhancement effect of Ti 3 C 2 T x @Cu. Moreover, Ti 3 C 2 T x @Cu effectively enhanced the tribological performance of the Cu matrix, attributed to the synergistic effect of Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene nanosheets and Cu NPs. These components could get adsorbed onto the surface of the friction pairs and induce tribochemical reactions, resulting in the formation of Fe 2 O 3 and CuO. Consequently, a stable protective film composed of Fe 2 O 3 /CuO/Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene was formed on the worn surface, thereby reducing friction.

The application of nanoparticle sintering technology for third-generation semiconductor packaging is usually hindered by the difficulty in volatilization of organic vehicles, the nanoparticle (NP) agglomeration of its solder paste zone, and poor mechanical properties due to the inherent pores/cracks. In this work, these obstacles can be overcome using ultrasonic-spraying Cu NP film and vacuum thermal-pressure sintering. This work first controlled the ultrasonic spraying process parameters (power, flow, pressure) to achieve uniform and stable atomization effects yielding a homogeneous Cu NP film. The Cu NP film was further employed to realize Cu die-Cu substrate interconnection, and the microstructure and mechanical properties of the sintering joints was emphatically analyzed. Results demonstrate that near-monolayer fine Cu sintering structures are successfully produced. The sintering joints have good interfacial bonding ratio (∼ 94 %) and low porosity (∼ 1.6 %), resulting in shear strengths of up to 120.1 MPa. Even when sintering at 250 °C, the shear strength can reach 96.1 MPa. Because of the "contact activation effect" and the removal of interfacial cracks , these ultrasonic-spraying samples are stronger than printing sintering joints (with cracks) under the same sintering processes . We expect this approach to improve the performance of the sintering joints and broaden the application of Cu NP films, the microstructure of which less dependent on paste composition and sintering procedure (temperature, pressure, and time, etc.).

Conversion of CO2 to sustainable chemical feedstocks and fuels by reacting with renewable hydrogen is considered to be a promising direction in energy research. The selectivity of desired products, such as C2–C4= and C5+, is low over unpromoted iron-based catalysts for CO2 hydrogenation. Therefore, promoters are often used to tailor and optimize the product distribution. In this work, the effect of doping Cu into Fe-based supported catalysts on the catalytic performance for CO2 hydrogenation to hydrocarbons was studied with a particularly focus on the interaction between Fe and Cu. For this purpose, catalysts with different Fe and Cu distribution were prepared by various impregnation methods. It was found that the selectivity of C2–C4= over Cu-promoted catalysts decreased, but a significant improvement was obtained for C5+. This promoting behavior is different from that of other promoters (e.g., K, Mn, Zn, etc.). The secondary conversion of produced olefins on Cu-promoted catalysts, which results from the improvement of olefins adsorption, on Cu-promoted catalysts leads to the decrease of C2–C4= (hydrogenation) but the increase of C5+ (oligomerization). Characterization results demonstrate that the catalytic performance is evidently associated with the strength of the interaction between Fe and Cu in the supported catalysts.

Magnesium Hydride (MgH 2 ) is a promising hydrogen storage material but suffers from a high dehydrogenation temperature and sluggish sorption kinetics, which hinder its practical application. Accordingly, we report the use of a Cu-based metal-organic framework (HKUST-1) derived carbon material as a catalyst for optimizing the MgH 2 hydrogen storage performance. The MgH 2 containing 10 wt% HKUST-1 (denoted as MgH 2 -HKUST-1) exhibits a maximum dehydrogenation temperature of 50 °C, much lower than pure MgH 2 . Additionally, it demonstrates enhanced hydrogenation dynamics: it adsorbs 6.4 wt% H 2 within 240 s when heated to 350 °C, and even at 200 °C, it still captures 5.7 wt% H 2 in 60 min. Moreover, the dehydrogenation activation energy is 85.01 kJ per mole of H 2 , showing a marked reduction compared to pure MgH 2 . Furthermore, the excellent H 2 storage performance perhaps stems from the synergistic interaction of Cu 2+ /Cu + redox reactions, mechanochemical size effects, and in situ carbon scaffolding.

In the electronic industry, the composite of copper (Cu) and aluminum nitride (AlN) is widely used, but obtaining Cu/AlN/Cu functionally gradient materials (Cu/AlN/Cu FGMs) in a single step using traditional laminated sintering processes has proven challenging due to significant differences in their physical properties. To address this issue, molybdenum (Mo), with a high melting point and low expansion, was involved in creating a continuous gradient structure with AlN and a quasi-continuous interfacial structure with Cu. The continuous interfacial structure of Mo/AlN gradient materials was obtained by hot pressing at 1650°C. Subsequently, the quasi-continuous interfacial structure of Cu/Mo heterogeneous metal joints with high shear strength was achieved by utilizing the diffusion welding method at 700–950°C. The results indicated that the optimum shear strength of Cu/AlN/Cu FGMs is around 90 MPa. However, Cu/AlN/Cu FGMs with different diffusion interlayers failed in different ways when shear occurred, which greatly depends on the phase compositions at the joint. The challenges are overcome by utilizing Mo to construct the continuous and quasi-continuous interfaces, resulting in Cu/AlN/Cu FGMs with improved shear properties.

Stable, treatment-resistant Cu complexes in practical wastewater are frequently neglected. Positively charged lysozyme amyloid fibrils (AF), however, exhibit unexplored potential for their adsorption. This study engineered an amyloid fibril-chitosan composite (AF-CS) xerogel and evaluated its adsorption performance in three systems: free Cu 2+ , Cu-Citrate binary, and Cu-EDTA binary. The characterization confirmed successful synthesis of AF-CS, revealing a porous and amine-rich structure with a more positive surface charge than that of pure AF xerogel. Systematic evaluation demonstrated adsorption capacities of 65.37 mg/g (free Cu 2+ ), 166.14 mg/g (Cu-Citrate), and 40.31 mg/g (Cu-EDTA). MINTEQ 3.0 speciation analysis identified anionic Cu-ligand complexes as dominant species in binary systems. Further investigation revealed synergistic adsorption mechanisms in the Cu-Citrate system: electrostatic attraction coupled with decomplexation-complexation pathways liberated citrate ligands, enabling electrostatic shielding and adsorption bridging that enhanced Cu coordination. Conversely, the high stability of Cu-EDTA chelates limited adsorption primarily to mechanisms involving electrostatic attraction, resulting in suboptimal performance. These findings advance the theoretical understanding of AF-CS interactions with diverse Cu species, demonstrating AF-CS as a promising material for Cu recovery from complex wastewater and providing guidance for designing novel remediation materials.

Catalysts with both metal single atoms and nanoclusters have drawn great attention due to their distinctive catalytic activity and selectivity. Herein, Cu single atoms and Cu nanoclusters are homogeneously dispersed on a porous N-doped carbon framework (Cu 1 Cu n @CN) via an encapsulation pyrolysis strategy. In the selective oxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) to 2,5-diformylfuran (DFF), around 100% yield of DFF is achieved over the as-synthesized Cu 1 Cu n @CN under air atmosphere and mild reaction conditions. Density function theory studies demonstrate that the strong interaction between the CuN and Cu cluster sites contributes to the up-shift of the d-orbital center of Cu in Cu 1 Cu n @CN and the Cu clusters can induce obvious electron redistribution around the CuN active center, which significantly improves the capability in substrate adsorption and activation. This work might provide new insights into the design and construction of catalysts with both metal single atoms and nanoclusters and investigations on their synergistic interactions for advanced catalysis applications.

Modulating the release of Cu(I) ions from copper-based antifoulants is of notable engineering and scientific importance. However, this approach remains challenging because of a lack of valence-stabilizing protection strategies for Cu(I) sites and the poorly characterized releasing behavior of Cu(I) ions. To address these issues, a novel multivalent antifoulant Cu(I, II)-metal–organic framework (Cu(I, II)-BTC; BTC: 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylate) was synthesized via an in situ reduction of Cu(II)-BTC under mild conditions. The framework structure of Cu(I, II)-BTC was examined in detail using X-ray diffraction, N 2 sorption analysis, and transmission electron microscopy–selected-area electron diffraction. For the first time, the release behavior of Cu(I) from Cu(I, II)-BTC submerged in seawater was characterized by ultraviolet–visible spectrophotometry. The chemical state of the copper sites in the Cu(I, II)-BTC complex was determined before and after submersion in fresh seawater to investigate whether the framework structure facilitated the retention of Cu(I) ions. Further, the bactericidal activity of Cu(I, II)-BTC was evaluated by measuring the intracellular reactive oxygen species levels to reveal the biocidal effect of the released Cu(I) ions. Finally, the antifouling performance of the resulting Cu(I, II)-BTC-based antifouling coating was comprehensively evaluated via laboratory bioassays (using fouling bacteria and barnacle larvae as test organisms) and long-term marine field trials. This study offers viable avenues for designing novel antifoulants and developing an in-depth understanding of the copper-mediated antifouling process.

Development of highly active and stable catalysts is critical for the hydrogenation of CO2 to methanol. Herein, a Cu-based catalyst was demonstrated by impregnating 20%ZnO onto the Cu–Al spinel followed by reduction. The catalyst delivers a methanol yield of 0.218 g g−1 h−1 with a CO2 conversion of 9.2% at 220 °C, 3 MPa, 6000 mL g−1 h−1, and is stable over a 300 h test. Various characterization techniques reveal that ZnO inhibits the growth of Cu nanoparticles during exsolution. Furthermore, there is strong electronic interaction between the components, i.e., the electron migrates from ZnO to the Cu–Al spinel, which leads to more oxygen vacancies and an electron-rich support and thus beneficial for CO2 hydrogenation to methanol.
