A novel colorimetric and fluorescent dual-mode sensing label for the highly sensitive detection of fish freshness was developed based on the stimuli-responsive polymer polyaniline (PANI) and the aggregation-induced emission property of tetraphenylethylene (TPE). TPE was integrated into the PNAI matrix on the surface of a polyamide film and placed in the sample package. During fish spoilage trials, the PANI/TPE sensing label exhibited not only visible color changes from emerald green to peacock blue but, more importantly, a fluorescent signal that changed from black to bright blue under ultraviolet (UV) light. The color difference of the sensing label in terms of ΔE values reflected a linear response to the total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N) concentration within 25.2 mg/100 g (UV light, R 2 = 0.976, y = 3.4773x-18.281; natural light, R 2 = 0.961, y = 1.373x - 7.2152) at room temperature and within 29.63 mg/100 g (UV light, R 2 = 0.994, y = 1.7894x + 44.188; natural light, R 2 = 0.984, y = 0.5187x + 13.192) at chilled temperature. These results indicate that consumers can judge fish freshness with the naked eye. Moreover, fish producers can extract ΔE data from sensing label photos and calculate TVB-N to quantitatively assess the freshness of fish.

The effect of electron beam irradiation (EBI) on the physical properties of fish gelatin (FG) films with antioxidants of bamboo leaves (AOB) was investigated. The results indicated that EBI had a positive effect on the tensile strength , denaturation temperatures, opacity values and microstructure of FG-AOB films. The highest values of mechanical and thermal properties as well as opacity were observed at irradiation dosages of 5 and 7 kGy. Nevertheless, EBI decreased contact angle and raised water vapor permeability of the films at higher relative humidity (90-100%), suggesting the re-organisation of hydrophilic groups on the films surface. The infrared spectroscopy and microstructure results showed that proper irradiation dosages could produce cross-linking bonds between FG and AOB and form compact structures, contributing to the decrease of AOB release rates. Therefore, irradiated FG-AOB films showed good mechanical and thermal properties, which suggested that they have the potential to be developed as biodegradable food packaging material.

A new analytical method was developed to determine total purine content in fish meat. The analysis principle is that total purine extracted from fish meat are turned into uric acid by diazotization reaction and xanthine oxidase reaction. Then, the content of uric acid is measured by surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). The results showed that the optimal conditions for the diazotization reaction were at 60 °C for 40 min, using 0.16 M HCl, and 3.00 g/L NaNO 2 . The optimal xanthine oxidase reaction conditions were using 100 U/L xanthine oxidase, conducting at 30 °C and pH 7.0 for 40 min. The calibration curve established at the characteristic Raman peak of 631 cm −1 had a good linear relationship (R 2 = 0.9864). The recovery rate was between 101.7% and 105.0%. Therefore, the total purine content in the fish meat can be quantitatively determined with this new method.

Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) is widely distributed in nature, particularly in aquatic environments. Its bioaccumulation and toxicity in aquatic organisms can be affected by both the chemical status of PFOA in water and the physiology of the organism. However, research on the patterns of these effects is scarce. In this study, we investigated the influence of aqueous pH (pH 6, acidic; pH 7.5, neutral; pH 9, basic) and fish sex on PFOA uptake, clearance, and biochemical effects in crucian carp ( C. auratus ) using flow-through exposure. In the 17-d kinetic experiment, PFOA bioaccumulation adhered to a uniform first-order model in which PFOA uptake rates from water to blood and liver in acidic conditions were faster than those in other conditions, indicating possible acidic pH influence on PFOA uptake. PFOA clearance rates in these compartments of males were slower than in females, which was attributed to the notably stronger expression of Oat2 (organic anion transporter 2, responsible for reabsorption) in the kidneys of males. Similar responses were observed for peroxisome proliferation-related biomarkers at different pH levels and in different sexes. These biochemical responses were driven by the internal concentrations of PFOA. The inhibition acetylcholinesterase activity in the fish brain was closely linked to changes in P-glycoprotein content, demonstrating a protective relationship. Collectively, an aqueous pH lower than 7.5 might affect the uptake of PFOA by fish. The clearance discrepancies between the sexes highlight the importance of anion carriers for ionizable organic compounds in aquatic organisms.

Social development is accompanied by technological progress, which commonly leads to the expansion of pollution As an essential resource of modern medical treatment, antibiotics have become a hot topic in the aspect of environmental pollution . In this study, we first used fish scales to synthesize N, P-codoped biochar catalyst (FS-BC) as peroxymonosulfate (PMS) and peroxydisulfate (PDS) activator to degrade tetracycline hydrochloride (TC). At the same time, peanut shell biochar (PS-BC) and coffee ground biochar (CG-BC) were prepared as reference materials. Among them, FS-BC exhibited the best catalytic performance due to the excellent defect structure (I D /I G = 1.225) and the synergism of N, P heteroatoms. PS-BC, FS-BC and CG-BC achieved degradation efficiencies of 86.26%, 99.71% and 84.41% for TC during PMS activation and 56.79%, 93.99% and 49.12% during PDS, respectively. In both FS-BC/PMS and FS-BC/PDS systems, non-free radical pathways involved singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ), surface-bound radicals mechanism and direct electron transfer mechanism. Structural defects, graphitic N and pyridinic N, P–C groups and positively charged sp 2 hybridized C adjacent to graphitic N were all critical active sites. FS-BC has the potential for practical applications and development because of its robust adaptation to pH and anions and stable re-usability. This study not only provides a reference for biochar selection, but also suggests a superior strategy for TC degradation in the environment.

In this study, a coordination imprinted polymer (CIP) solid-phase extraction (SPE) method was developed to determine the residues of flumequine (FLU) in fish samples. Silanized graphene oxide-doped CIP (SGO-CIP) monolithic column was prepared using FLU-Zn 2+ as template in the presence of SGO. The synthesis conditions of SGO-CIP column were optimized by the response surface methodology. Under the optimum conditions, this column showed high specificity to FLU, and the adsorption capacity reached 61.74 ng mg −1 . The enrichment factor of the monolithic column was over 40-fold. Various factors affecting the extraction efficiency of SGO-CIP column during SPE were tested to achieve optimal enrichment and to reduce non-specific adsorption. FLU in fish was detected by using a high-performance liquid chromatography-fluorescence detection system. The detection limit was as low as 0.32 ng g −1 and the recovery was as high as 95.2%, with relative standard deviations of below 5.9%. This simple and sensitive method may be applicable to the determination of FLU residues in foods.

Dihydroxylated polybrominated diphenyl ethers (diOH-PBDEs) can be natural products of marine organisms or the metabolites of PBDEs. The optimal determination method and concentration of diOH-PBDEs in seafood are unknown due to a lack of commercially available standards. In the present study, diOH-PBDEs were synthesized, and an efficient measurement method for OH-PBDEs and diOH-PBDEs in sea fish muscle samples, including extraction, clean-up and gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS) analysis, was established. Pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) followed by partitioning with a KOH solution and florisil cartridge clean-up proved to be a reliable and robust method for detecting all OH-PBDEs/diOH-PBDEs. GC-MS/MS with an electron ionization (EI) source analysis was a sensitive analytical instrument for OH-PBDEs/diOH-PBDEs. The recovery using this method ranged from 19% to 101%, 28%–88% and 42%–90% for 10 ng, 20 ng and 40 ng spiking levels, respectively. The equipment detection limits (EDLs) were in the range of 0.31–2.78 pg/μL, and the limits of detection (LOD) for the method were in the range of 5.07–38.74 pg/g wet weight. Concentrations of diOH-PBDEs in the marine fish muscle samples were in the range of 32.43–1528.63 pg/g wet weight. Similar compositions of OH-PBDEs/diOH-PBDEs were found within the same family of marine fish.

A magnetic fluorescent probe of CdTe QDs/nano-Fe 3 O 4 @MIPs was prepared using CdTe QDs and Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles as co -nucleus and molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) as specific recognition sites based on a reverse microemulsion method. With the specific enrichment and magnetic separation properties, the probe of CdTe QDs/nano-Fe 3 O 4 @MIPs was used to detect malachite green (MG) in fish samples. The TEM analysis showed that the particles of CdTe QDs/nano-Fe 3 O 4 @MIPs were spherical with average diameter around 53 nm, and a core-shell structure was well-shaped with several Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles and CdTe QDs embedded in each of the microsphere . Quick separation of the probes from solutions could be realized with a magnet, indicating the excellent magnetic property of CdTe QDs/nano-Fe 3 O 4 @MIPs. The probe exhibited high specific adsorption towards MG and excellent fluorescence emission at λ em 598 nm. The fluorescence of CdTe QDs/nano-Fe 3 O 4 @MIPs could be linearly quenched by MG at the concentrations from 0.025 to 1.5 μmol L −1 . The detection limit was 0.014 μmol L −1 . The average recovery of spiked MG in fish samples was 105.2%. The result demonstrated that the as-prepared CdTe QDs/nano-Fe 3 O 4 @MIPs could be used as a probe to the detection of trace MG in fish samples.

Decreasing the tedious sample preparation duration is one of the most important concerns for the environmental analytical chemistry especially for in vivo experiments. However, due to the slow mass diffusion paths for most of the conventional methods, ultrafast in vivo sampling remains challenging. Herein, for the first time, we report an ultrafast in vivo solid-phase microextraction (SPME) device based on electrosorption enhancement and a novel custom-made CNT@PPY@pNE fiber for in vivo sampling of ionized acidic pharmaceuticals in fish. This sampling device exhibited an excellent robustness, reproducibility, matrix effect-resistant capacity, and quantitative ability. Importantly, the extraction kinetics of the targeted ionized pharmaceuticals were significantly accelerated using the device, which significantly improved the sensitivity of the SPME in vivo sampling method (limits of detection ranged from 0.12 ng·g–1 to 0.25 ng·g–1) and shorten the sampling time (only 1 min). The proposed approach was successfully applied to monitor the concentrations of ionized pharmaceuticals in living fish, which demonstrated that the device and fiber were suitable for ultrafast in vivo sampling and continuous monitoring. In addition, the bioconcentration factor (BCF) values of the pharmaceuticals were derived in tilapia (Oreochromis mossambicus) for the first time, based on the data of ultrafast in vivo sampling. Therefore, we developed and validated an effective and ultrafast SPME sampling device for in vivo sampling of ionized analytes in living organisms and this state-of-the-art method provides an alternative technique for future in vivo studies.

HnRNP A/B belongs to the heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein (hnRNP) family and plays an important role in regulating viral protein translation and genome replication. Here, we found that overexpression of hnRNP A/B promoted Spring viremia of carp virus (SVCV) and Cyprinid herpesvirus 3 (CyHV3) replication. Further, hnRNP A/B was shown to act as a negative regulator of type I interferon (IFN) response. Mechanistically, hnRNP A/B interacted with MITA, TBK1 and IRF3 to initiate their degradation. In addition, hnRNP A/B bound to the kinase domain of TBK1, the C terminal domain of MITA and IAD domain of IRF3, and the RRM1 domain of hnRNP A/B bound to TBK1, RRM2 domain bound to IRF3 and MITA. Our study provides novel insights into the functions of hnRNP A/B in regulating host antiviral response.

In this paper, a highly conductive alkali-activated graphitized carbon (a-GC) was prepared using tilapia fish scales as precursors through enzymolysis, activation and pyrolytic carbonization methods. The prepared a-GC was modified on the surface of a screen-printed carbon electrode to construct a flexible portable electrochemical sensing platform, which was applied to the differential pulse voltametric detection of dopamine (DA) using a U-disk electrochemical workstation combined with a smart phone and Bluetooth. The prepared a-GC possesses good electrical conductivity, a large specific surface area and abundant active sites, which are beneficial for the electrooxidation of DA molecules and result in excellent sensitivity and high selectivity for DA analysis. Under the optimal conditions, the oxidation peak current of DA increased gradually, with its concentrations in the range from 1.0 μmol/L to 1000.0 μmol/L, with the detection limit as low as 0.25 μmol/L (3S/N). The proposed sensor was further applied to the determination of DA in human sweat samples, with satisfactory results, which provided an opportunity for developing noninvasive early diagnosis and nursing equipment.

A new method for the isolation and enrichment of ofloxacin enantiomers from fish samples was developed using magnetic molecularly imprinted polymers (MMIPs). These polymers can be easily collected and rapidly separated using an external magnetic field, and also exhibit a high specific recognition for ofloxacin enantiomers. The preparation of amino-functionalized MMIPs was carried out via suspension polymerization and a ring-opening reaction usingrac-ofloxacin as a template, ethylenediamine as an active group, glycidyl methacrylate and methyl methacrylate as functional monomers, divinylbenzene as a cross-linker, and Fe3O4nanoparticles as magnetic cores. The characteristics of the MMIPs were assessed using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) measurements. Furthermore, the adsorption properties were determined using Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. The conditions for use of these MMIPs as magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) sorbents, including pH, adsorption time, desorption time, and eluent, were investigated in detail. An extraction method using MMIPs coupled with high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was developed for the determination of ofloxacin enantiomers in fish samples. The limits of quantitation (LOQ) for the developed method were 0.059 and 0.067 μg∙mL−1for levofloxacin and dextrofloxacin, respectively. The recovery of ofloxacin enantiomers ranged from 79.2% ± 5.6% to 84.4% ± 4.6% and ofloxacin enantiomers had good linear relationships within the concentration range of 0.25–5.0 μg∙mL−1(R2> 0.999). The obtained results demonstrate that MSPE-HPLC is a promising approach for preconcentration, purification, and simultaneous separation of ofloxacin enantiomers in biomatrix samples. Keywords:magnetic solid-phase extraction;ofloxacin enantiomers;magnetic molecularly imprinted polymers;chiral HPLC
