Iridium (Ir) complexes have gained remarkable development momentum as candidates for electrochemiluminescence , but their poor solubility in water media greatly limited their application in ECL area. Herein, a facile nanoprecipitation method by encapsulating tris(2-phenylpyridinato)iridium (Ir(ppy) 3 ) into pluronic block copolymers for preparing water-soluble Ir(III) complexes with high ECL emission efficiency was developed. Then, with F-127@Ir(ppy) 3 as the anode emitter and g-C 3 N 4 as the cathode emitter, a new ratiometric biosensor based on transition metal complexes was developed for the first time, which was used for ultra-sensitive detection of hepatitis C virus E2 protein. Notably, the ratiometric ECL signal could be mediated by using multifunctional Nb 2 C nanosheets (Nb 2 C NSs) with excellent electrocatalytic activity and superoxide dismutase activity, so as to enhance the ECL intensity of anode and quench the response of cathode ECL. Combining Nb 2 C NSs with the antibody and the specific recognition process, the proposed ECL ratio biosensor showed good performance for E2 with a linear range from 1 × 10 −3 ng/mL to 1 × 10 2 ng/mL and a detection limit of 8.39 × 10 −4 ng/mL. The work on designing water-soluble Ir (III) complexes with pluronic block copolymer provides an ingenious approach to broaden the application of poorly soluble complexes in bioassays.

Skillful arrangement of the active sites with stable dispersion and desired chemical states on the support surface is vital for their powerful application in catalysis, but remains a daunting challenge. Herein, we present a unique redispersion strategy for well dispersing and stabilizing IrO 2 /Ir active sites over TiO 2 as an advanced catalyst for low temperature CH 4 oxidation. The as-designed Ir/TiO 2 with a 1 wt.% Ir loading amount exhibits a (>)99 % CH 4 conversion and excellent durability at a temperature as low as 320 °C, which ranges among the best of state-of-the-art methane combustion catalysts. Various characterizations and DFT calculations were performed to reveal the redispersion mechanism and understand the reason for the enhanced performance. The superior performance is related to the proper chemical state of complex IrO 2 /Ir active sites and their ultrafine and stable dispersion, all relating to the strong metal-support interaction (SMSI) induced redispersion process. Such SMSI assisted active sites redispersion strategy provides useful guidance for the rational design of efficient Ir-based and other noble metal catalysts.

Fluorescent brighteners, illegally used to whitening wheat flour, are detrimental to people health. The aim was to establish a rapid and direct method to identify and quantify fluorescent whitening agent OB-1 (FWA OB-1) in wheat flour by using multi-molecular infrared (MM-IR) spectroscopy combined with stereomicroscopy. Characteristic peak profile of FWA OB-1 used as a judgment basis was spatially revealed by stereomicroscopy with group-peak matching of MM-IR at 1614 cm −1 , 1501 cm −1 and 893 cm −1 and were further unveiled by the second derivative infrared spectroscopy (SD-IR) and its two-dimensional correlation infrared (SD-2DCOS IR) spectroscopy for higher resolution, and were validated by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Moreover, a quantitative prediction model based on IR spectra was established by partial least squares 1 (PLS1) (R 2 , 98.361; SEE, 5.032; SEP, 5.581). The developed method was applicable for rapid and direct analysis of FWA OB-1 (low to 10 ppm) in flour with relative standard deviation (RSD) of 5%. The capabilities of MM-IR with spectral qualitative and quantitative analysis would be applicable to direct identification and quantitation of fluorescent whitening agents or other IR-active compounds in powder objects.

By a comparative study of the concentration-dependent IR spectra of methyl benzoate (MB)/methanol- d 4 and MB/ n -hexane mixtures, it is found that the infrared wavenumber ( υ ˜ ) of ester group (O C O) of MB in the former system decreased exponentially with the increase of mole fraction of MB ( x 1 ), while that of the latter system decreased linearly, suggesting that H-bonding interaction plays an important role in the microstructure of MB/methanol- d 4 mixture. Therefore, to explore the microstructure and characterize the strength of H-bonding interaction of MB/methanol mixture, the excess infrared wavenumber of a group ( υ ˜ group E ) is proposed, showing that υ ˜ O − D E of methanol- d 4 presents an S shape with a minimum value at x 1 ≈ 0.4 and a maximum value at x 1 ≈ 0.8, respectively. Furthermore, the absolute value of υ ˜ O − D E (| υ ˜ O − D E |) of the former is greater than that of the latter, suggesting that H-bonding interaction in methanol- d 4 molecules is stronger than that between methanol- d 4 and MB. While both υ ˜ C = O E and υ ˜ C − O E of MB show a negative deviation with minimum values at x 1 ≈ 0.4, and | υ ˜ C = O E | is larger than | υ ˜ C − O E |, indicating that C O is directly involved in H-bonding interaction with O D, resulting in the change of υ ˜ C − O E through the electronic conjugation effect. To confirm the microstructure obtained from IR spectra, densities, speeds of sound , and viscosities of MB/methanol mixture are measured and excess properties are calculated. The results show that both excess molar volumes and isentropic compressibility deviations have a negative deviation with a minimum value at x 1 ≈ 0.4, which is good consistent with x 1 corresponding to the minimum value of υ ˜ O − D E , υ ˜ C = O E , and υ ˜ C − O E , respectively. Moreover, viscosity deviations exhibit a negative deviation with a minimum value at x 1 ≈ 0.8, which is good consistent with x 1 corresponding to the maximum value of υ ˜ O − D E .

The interfacial polymerization (IP) of piperazine (PIP) and trimesoyl chloride (TMC) has been extensively utilized to synthesize nanofiltration (NF) membranes. However, it is still a huge challenge to monitor the IP reaction, because of the fast reaction rate and the formed ultra-thin film. Herein, two effective strategies were applied to reduce the IP reaction rate: (1) the introduction of hydrophilic interlayers between the porous substrate and the formed polyamide layer, and (2) the addition of macromolecular additives in the aqueous solution of PIP. As a result, in situ Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy was firstly used to monitor the IP reaction of PIP/TMC with hydrophilic interlayers or macromolecular additives in the aqueous solution of PIP. Moreover, the formed polyamide layer growth on the substrate was studied in a real-time manner. The in situ FT-IR experimental results confirmed that the IP reaction rates were effectively suppressed and that the formed polyamide thickness was reduced from 138 ± 24 nm to 46 ± 2 nm according to TEM observation. Furthermore, an optimized NF membrane with excellent performance was consequently obtained, which included boosted water permeation of about 141–238 (L/m2·h·MPa) and superior salt rejection of Na2SO4> 98.4%.Keywords:interfacial polymerization;in situ FT-IR spectroscopy;thin-film composite membrane;nanofiltration membrane

In this study, the Mo-promoted Ir/SiO 2 (Ir-MoO x /SiO 2 ) catalysts combined with the zeolite HZSM-5 were used for the direct conversion of microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) to liquid fuel (C 5 /C 6 alkanes) in n-dodecane/H 2 O system. A synergistic effect was formed between the partially reduced MoO x species and the Ir particles, which effectively promoted the catalytic activity of Ir/SiO 2 catalyst. When the Mo/Ir molar ratio was 0.5, a high yield of C 5 /C 6 alkanes (91.7%) was achieved at 210 ℃ for 12 h. In addition, the main component of C 5 /C 6 alkanes was n-hexane, which was proven to be obtained by the hydrogenolysis of the key intermediate, sorbitol, formed from the hydrolysis and hydrogenation of MCC.

Rationale : Ischemia-reperfusion-induced acute kidney injury (IR-AKI), characterized by the abrupt decline in renal function, is distinguished by the intricate interplay between oxidative stress and inflammation. In this study, a reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenger-CF@PDA was developed to effectively target antioxidant and anti-inflammatory pathways to disrupt the oxidative stress-inflammation cycle in IR-AKI. Methods : UV-vis absorption spectra, FTIR spectra, and TEM were employed to determine the successful construction of CF@P. ABTS, TMB, and NBT analyses were performed to detect the antioxidant ability and enzyme-mimicking ability of CF@P. In vitro and in vitro , the antioxidant/anti-inflammatory effect of CF@P was detected by MTT, qPCR, fluorescence, and flow cytometry. Multi-omics revealed the mechanism of CF@P in IR-AKI therapy, and molecular docking was further used to determine the mechanism. MRI and photoacoustic imaging were employed to explore the dual-mode imaging capacity of CF@P in IR-AKI management. Results : CF@P could disrupt the oxidative stress-inflammatory cascade by scavenging ROS, reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines, and modulation of macrophage polarization. Subsequent multi-omics indicated that the renal protective effects may be attributed to the inhibition of pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase 4 (PDK4). Metabolomics demonstrated that CF@P could improve the production of antioxidant compounds and reduce nephrotoxicity. Additionally, CF@P exhibited promising capabilities in T1-MRI and photoacoustic imaging for AKI management. Conclusions : Collectively, CF@P, possessing antioxidant/anti-inflammatory properties by inhibiting PDK4, as well as imaging capabilities and superior biocompatibility, holds promise as a therapeutic strategy for IR-AKI.

Studies have reported attenuation of insulin resistance (IR) by improving phosphorylation of the insulin signalling pathway. However, the upstream molecular signalling pathway is still elusive. In this study, Western blot was used to evaluate the phosphorylation level of the insulin signalling pathway and the AMPK pathway. 2-NBDG was used to evaluate glucose uptake. Ca 2+ imaging was used to assess change of intracellular Ca 2+ concentration. We found that NaHS enhanced the intracellular Ca 2+ concentration and glucose uptake and activated the insulin signalling cascade in a palmitic acid (PA)-induced IR model in C2C12 cells. Furthermore, activation of the IRS1/PI3K/AKT pathway and glucose uptake were decreased when AMPK or CaMKKβ was inhibited. Our study also showed that the mitochondrial electron transport chain, ATP production, and intramitochondrial cAMP declined in the IR model but that this effect was reversed by NaHS, an effect that may be mediated by the Ca 2+ /CaMKK2/AMPK and PI3K/AKT pathways. Our data indicate that H 2 S improves activation of the insulin signalling cascade and glucose uptake via activation of the Ca 2+ /CaMKK2/AMPK pathway and mitochondrial metabolism in C2C12 cells. Furthermore, NaHS protects mitochondrial function and maintains normal ATP production by activating the cAMP system and the Ca 2+ /CaMKK2/AMPK and PI3K/ATK pathways.

Mono-phosphines (L1 and L2) and diphosphines (L3 and L4) with typical π-acceptor character were prepared and applied in Ir(I)-catalyzed N-alkylation of amines with alcohols. It was found that the π-acceptor character of the applied phosphines is closely correlated to the catalytic efficiency of the [Ir(COD)Cl]2 complex for this green reaction. Compared to PPh3 as the typical σ-donor (i.e. with poor π-acceptor character), L1–L4 all resulted in the efficient N-alkylation of aniline to benzyl-aniline. While L1–L4 coordinated to the Ir(I)-catalyst, the consolidated Ir–P linkages due to π-backdonation could well protect the Ir-catalyst against deactivation, giving rise to the N-alkylation of aniline. On the other hand, the stabilized Ir-catalyst with the involvement of L2 could be recycled successfully for at least 4 runs in the ionic liquid of [MePh3P]Br without the detectable leaching of Ir and P elements in the organic products.

Despite the fruitful achievements in the development of high-performance catalysts, most of materials still suffer limited HER kinetics and poor durability in harsh acidic media, especially at high current densities . In this work, a Pd nanoparticles/Ir metallene heterojunction structure (Pd/Ir hetero-metallene) were successfully prepared by a facile co-reduction method. The hydrogen spillover bridging H + adsorption/H 2 desorption process occurring at the Pd/Ir interface results in the rate-determining step change to a Tafel step, which accelerates the HER kinetics. The Pd/Ir hetero-metallene has a relatively low Δ G Hads (-0.19 eV), which allows for rapid adsorption of H + and release of H 2 , thus greatly improving the performance of HER. As a result, the Pd/Ir hetero-metallene exhibits remarkable HER performance with ultra-low overpotentials of only 69 and 133 mV to reach 500 and 1000 mA cm −2 , a small Tafel slope of 21 mV dec −1 , and superb stability.

This study devised optimal conditions to extract Eucommia ulmoides leaf (EUL) polysaccharides using a cellulase and pectinase composite enzyme system based on one-way experiments and response surface methodology. Crude EUL polysaccharides (EULPs) were extracted and purified using a DEAE chromatography column. The polysaccharides EUL-w, EUL1, EUL2, and EUL3 were obtained by elution with water, 0.1 mol/L NaCl, 0.2 mol/L NaCl, and 0.3 mol/L NaCl, respectively. The EUL-w fraction had the highest hypoglycemic activity based on its α-amylase and α-glucosidase activities. The preliminary structure of purified EUL-w1 was elucidated. In vitro hypoglycemic activity studies and metabolomics analyses suggested that EUL-w1 modulated glucose metabolism by mediating the AMPK/PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. Our findings provide novel insights and data support for the utilization of EULPs as an emerging food resource in functional foods.

Research on pressurized methane dry reforming (DRM) is of great significance for the integration with downstream F-T synthesis processes and reducing gas compression costs. However, the increase in pressure leads to severe coking, which limits the stable operation of the process. Developing Co-based bimetallic catalysts doped with a small amount of noble metals is one of the important approaches to improving the catalysts’ coking resistance and catalytic performance, thereby alleviating this issue. In this work, a carbon-supported Co-Ir bimetallic catalyst doped with 0.2 wt% Ir (denoted as Co-0.2Ir/C) was developed. Structural characterizations confirmed the formation of Co-Ir alloy, with the metal particles on the catalyst being highly dispersed and having an average particle size of 4.82 nm. Under the reaction conditions of 800 °C, 0.5 MPa, and 30,000 mL g cat -1 h −1 , the incorporation of Ir effectively enhanced the initial catalytic activity of the catalyst and achieved stable operation for 100 h, with final CH 4 and CO 2 conversion reaching 73.9 % and 82.8 %, respectively. In addition, this study focused on the structural changes of the catalyst during the induction period, confirming the dynamic evolution laws of metal particle redispersion and amorphous carbon graphitization. These findings explain the dynamic variation phenomenon where the conversion of CH 4 and CO 2 first increased significantly and then gradually stabilized during the reaction. This study provides certain guiding significance for the development of relatively low-cost carbon-supported metal catalysts, the realization of stable operation of DRM under pressurized conditions, and the clarification of the structure–activity relationship of such catalysts in the DRM reaction.
