Excessive phosphate in wastewater can cause eutrophication of water body, which will worsen the ecological environment and threaten human health and biological life safety. Adsorption of phosphate is the most effective way to remove phosphate, and efficient adsorbent is the key. Amorphous La(OH) 3 has been deemed as a potential phosphate adsorbent on account of high adsorption capacity and environmentally friendly property. However, it also shows some disadvantages such as easy agglomeration, poor water dispersion. In this study, UiO-66-NH 2 was used as carrier to load amorphous lanthanum hydroxide as an adsorbent for phosphate removal. The adsorbent (UiO-66-NH 2 @La(OH) 3 , ULCs) has good water dispersibility and it is easy to be separated and recovered. At the same time, the maximum phosphate adsorption capacity can reach 140.7 mg P/g. The adsorption process accords with pseudo second order kinetic model and Freundlich isotherm model. The thermodynamic results showed that the adsorption process was spontaneous and endothermic. In addition, in the presence of coexisting anions (such as Cl − , SO 4 2− , NO 3 − ), it also exhibited high selectivity and phosphate removal efficiency. Meanwhile, the adsorption capacity keeps at a high level in the range of pH 3–11. By the merit of above-mentioned properties, the prepared material is expected to be an ideal candidate for phosphate removal from contaminated water.

Considering the accelerated charge/mass transfer and the formation of active defects at the heterointerface, La-ZnO/g-C 3 N 4 heterogeneous photocatalysts were facilely prepared via a two-step route consisting of hydrothermal and calcination processes in this work. The combination of La 3+ doping in ZnO and the contact between La-ZnO and g-C 3 N 4 endowed the heterogeneous composite with a much enhanced photocatalytic activity towards methyl blue (MB) dye decolorization under the visible light irradiation. It was found that La-ZnO/g-C 3 N 4 -4.6 showed an optimal degradation rate of MB (8.72 × 10 − 2 min − 1 ), which is 14 times higher than that of pure g-C 3 N 4 (6.23 × 10 − 3 min − 1 ) under the same experimental conditions. The improved photocatalytic MB decolorization is attributed to the increased interfacial electron-hole separation efficiency through constructing La-ZnO/g-C 3 N 4 heterogeneous interfaces. The present study manifests the advantage of heterogeneous interfaces as the charge carrier separation pathway towards boosting photocatalytic activity.

La/Zr co-doped SrTaO2N has been investigated as visible-light-active photocatalysts for water reduction. Unlike previous aliovalent doping that leads to a decrease in light absorption, La/Zr co-doping largely preserves the visible light absorption of SrTaO2N. More importantly, the La/Zr co-doping not only helps to improve surface hydrophilicity and reduce particle sizes but also effectively inhibits defect formation (e.g. Ta4+) in SrTaO2N. These modifications are responsible for significant enhancements in photocatalytic H2 production. AQE as high as 0.84% was achieved at 420 ± 20 nm for Sr0.4La0.6Ta0.4Zr0.6O2N (x = 0.6), which also showed good durability and stability. Further analysis suggests that La/Zr co-doping negatively shifts the conduction band edge positions of SrTaO2N and contributes to better charge separation conditions.

Lead-free antiferroelectric (AFE) NaNbO 3 (NN) is one of promising materials for dielectric capacitors, but the recoverable energy-storage density and efficiency get restrained owing to huge remanent polarization and limited dielectric breakdown field strength . In this work, a variety of NN based lead-free bulk (1- x )NaNbO 3 - x La(Mn 0.5 Ni 0.5 )O 3 (abbreviated as (1- x )NN- x LMN, x = 0, 0.05, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20) ceramics were designed using a solid-state synthesis method. Remarkably, an ultra-fast charge-discharge speed 47 ns and an acceptable recoverable energy-storage density W rec ~1.77 J/cm 3 with a high efficiency η = 77% were obtained under the E b of 200 kV/cm at x = 0.05. The superior energy storage performance is attributed to the regulation of domain size and voltage resistance by special ions substitution of A and B sites. This work not only proposes an efficient strategy to realize high recoverable energy-storage density and efficiency, but also provide an candidate material for application of advanced pulsed power capacitors.

The hydrogenation of petroleum resin (PR) is an effective process to prepare high value-added hydrogenated PR (HPR). However, the preparation of non-noble metal-based catalysts with high catalytic activity for PR hydrogenation still remains a challenge. Herein, a La promoted Ni-based catalyst is reported through the thermal reduction of quaternary NiLaMgAl-layered double hydroxides (NiLaMgAl-LDHs). The incorporation of La is beneficial to the reduction and stability of Ni particles with reduced particle size, and the increased alkalinity effectively mitigates the breakage of molecular chains of PR. As a result, the La promoted Ni-based catalyst exhibits high catalytic activity and excellent stability for PR hydrogenation. A hydrogenation degree of 95.4% and 96.1% can be achieved for HC 5 PR and HC 9 PR with less reduced softening point, respectively. Notably, the hydrogenation degree still maintains at 92.7% even after 100 hours’ reaction, much better than that without La incorporation or prepared using conventional impregnation method.

In this work, Rh–Co/La2O3–SiO2 showed excellent selectivity to ethanol for direct ethanol synthesis from syngas. The best catalyst exhibited 42.8% selectivity to ethanol with CO conversion of 12.3% and in 145 h’ running maintained stable at 553 K, 3 MPa and GHSV of 3900 mL (gcat h)−1. The investigate results indicated that the interaction of cobalt denoting electron to rhodium adjusted the amounts of carbon monoxide adsorbed associatively and dissociatively, and maybe created a new active site pair of Rh0/Coδ+ for generating ethanol. Moreover, the mutually doping effect could dilute Co and Rh atoms in Rh–Co nanoparticles (NPs), which effectively suppressed the formation of C2+H and C3+OH, and thus led to the high ethanol selectivity and good anticoking property assisting with the carbon eliminating effect of La2O3. Owing to the high dispersion of Rh–Co NPs, the catalyst showed good activity and high resistance to sintering.

In this study, transparent LaErZr 2 O 7 ceramic with high excess La and Er contents (nominally La 1.28 Er 1.28 Zr 2 O 7.84 ) was successfully prepared by vacuum sintering at 1850 °C for 6 h using nanosized powder. The XRD , SEM, EDX and TEM results reveal that the single pyrochlore phase in the powder sample transforms to the coexistence of La-rich pyrochlore phase and Er-rich defect fluorite phase after high temperature sintering . The high excess amounts of La and Er favor the formation of pyrochlore structure. Despite the coexistence of two phases, the sample with 1 mm thickness shows excellent in-line transmittance in the visible to mid-infrared region (as high as 81% at 1100 nm). The upconversion and infrared emission under 980 nm exciting were measured and discussed as well.

The frequent occurrence of algae boom and skeletal fluorosis has drawn global attention to developing feasible technologies for phosphate and fluoride removal from water bodies. This study reported the synthesis of novel three-dimensional rice-like La@MgAl nanocomposites by anchoring La species into Mg-Al LDH matrix to achieve effective and synchronous phosphate and fluoride capture. Results from multiple detection methods including XRD, SEM, FTIR, and XPS revealed the introduced La cations could serve as a structural inducer to regulate the crystallinity of the La@MgAl composites and rice-like nanocomposite La@MgAl-1 was fabricated under optimal La loading amount. La@MgAl-1 possessed high adsorption capacities for both phosphate and fluoride (101.59 mg/g and 51.03 mg/g, respectively). The effective adsorption performance also sustained even after five adsorption-desorption cycles, indicating favorable reusability. The adsorption mechanism analysis revealed that the presence of unique hydrotalcite-like structure triggered memory effect to exert strong adsorption of P and F anions into the interlayered gallery. Besides, an optimum amount of La species organized on the composite wielded specific anion adsorption to phosphate and fluoride through inner-sphere complexation and ligand exchange. These encouraging results highlight the positive consequence of combining the strategic La species and LDH matrix to render a nanostructured Mg/Al/La ternary metal assembly in which various components are united in a controllable way to exert collective properties for accumulative anion adsorption properties. Besides, this study offered promising candidates for real water purification against phosphate and fluoride pollution.

A novel La–Zr composite was prepared by one pot method in mild conditions, and it shows a high fluoride removal ability of 143 mg/g. The powders were characterized by SEM, EDS, and FTIR. The effects of various factors such as pH, the presence of coexisting anions, contacting time, and initial fluoride concentration were investigated. The equilibrium data were studied by being fitted to several isotherm models, and the kinetic data are found to be described very well by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The overall rate of fluoride adsorption is likely to be controlled by chemisorption processes. The mechanism of adsorption was discussed in detail.

Li–La–Zr–O thin films were successfully fabricated using a sol–gel spin coating method, and the effects of altering the annealing temperature and the number of layers of the films on electrolyte conductivity were studied. Using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, the characteristics of these films were investigated as a function of annealing temperature and the numbers of layers of the film. With these methods, an amorphous structure and a smooth surface on the films were revealed. The thin film's ionic conductivity was investigated by impedance analysis. The results show that the ionic conductivity of the films decreases with an increase of the annealing temperature, from 1.67 × 10−6 S cm−1 for 600 °C annealing to 8.53 × 10−7 S cm−1 for 800 °C annealing. The influence of film thickness on conductivity was investigated and the conductivity followed an inverse u-shaped curve with increasing film thickness. We propose that Li–La–Zr–O thin films may be promising solid electrolytes for solid-state lithium-ion batteries.

A series of RGO/La-ZnIn 2 S 4 photocatalysts were successfully synthesized using the hydrothermal method with different amount of RGO (0 wt%, 0.1 wt%, 0.5 wt%, 1.0 wt%, 2.0 wt%, 5.0 wt%) and La (0 wt%, 0.1 wt%, 0.5 wt%, 1.0 wt%, 2.0 wt%, 5.0 wt%) and characterized by various analysis techniques, such as XRD , Raman, SEM, UV–Vis, TEM, BET and PL. The photocatalytic H 2 evolution activities have also been evaluated under visible-light irradiation. The H 2 production activity of RGO/La-ZnIn 2 S 4 was influenced by both La and RGO significantly. The activity reached the best when the amounts of La and RGO were both 1.0 wt%. The hydrogen production rate of 1.0Pt/1.0RGO/1.0La-ZnIn 2 S 4 was 2255 μmol g −1 h −1 and the apparent quantum yield and the energy conversion efficiency were 29.45% and 18.79% at 420 nm respectively. The activity was related to the BET surface area, the pore microstructure and the synergistic effect of RGO and La. On the basis of the characterization of the catalysts, the synergistic effect of RGO and La on the photocatalytic activity of RGO/La-ZnIn 2 S 4 was discussed in detail.

In this study, nano-sized La-doped YIG (Y 3-x La x Fe 5 O 12 , x = 0.00, 0.03, 0.05, 0.08, 0.10, and 0.15) were prepared using a reverse co-precipitation method, which were then combined with FeSiCr powder to create a novel FeSiCr/Y 3-x La x Fe 5 O 12 soft magnetic composite (SMC). X-ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis confirmed the successful incorporation of La into the YIG lattice. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS) scans demonstrated that a uniform insulating layer of La-doped YIG was effectively coated on the FeSiCr particles. The results revealed that the Y 2.92 La 0.08 Fe 5 O 12 powders showed the highest M s of 22.334 emu/g. Furthermore, the FeSiCr/Y 3-x La x Fe 5 O 12 SMCs exhibited notable improvements both in permeability and core loss with a La doping concentration of x = 0.08 ( P cv = 122.35 mW/cm 3 , μ e = 51.034 at 10 mT and 500 kHz), accompanied by an enhancement of DC bias characteristics. This work optimized the magnetic properties of YIG with La doping and constructed a novel FeSiCr/La-doped YIG SMCs with enhanced high-frequency performance.
