In this paper, MWCNTs functionalized with graphene oxide (GO) were incorporated into poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) matrix for the synthesis of high quality PEDOT/GO functional MWCNTs (PEDOT/GO–MWCNTs) nanocomposite by using one-step electropolymerization method. The obtained nanocomposite was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis) spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. Then the catalytic behavior of PEDOT/GO–MWCNTs nanocomposite modified glassy carbon (GC) electrode toward diethylstilbestrol (DES) has been investigated by electrochemical techniques. Electrochemical results revealed that the oxidation peak currents of DES obtained at the PEDOT/GO–MWCNTs/GC electrode are much higher than those at the PEDOT/GC, PEDOT/GO/GC, GO–MWCNTs/GC and bare GC electrodes, which might be ascribed to the large surface area and good conductivity of PEDOT/GO–MWCNTs nanocomposite. Under optimized conditions, the anodic peak current was linear to the concentration of DES in the range from 0.01 to 20 μM with the detection limit of 0.003 μM. To further validate its possible application, the proposed method was successfully used for the determination of DES in pharmaceutical formulations with satisfactory results. The excellent electrocatalytic behavior of PEDOT/GO–MWCNTs may lead to new applications in electrochemical analysis.

This work proposes a generalizable structural strategy for designing microwave-absorbing coatings that are both thickness-tolerant and disturbance-resistant. Here, we develop a coating based on a porous PI wall-encapsulated filler structure, in which the unique pore-wall interfaces markedly smooth the thickness evolution of impedance matching and attenuation, enabling effective Ku -band absorption over a 2.5–3.1 mm thickness window. An appropriate composition ratio combined with PI-encapsulated porous structure collectively achieves thickness-insensitive strong absorption performance. To evaluate its anti-interference capability, short-term surface oxidative etching tests were performed. The results show that, even after surface erosion, the internal wall-encapsulated network preserves stable Ku -band absorption and radar-cross-section reduction, maintaining the thickness-insensitive characteristics.

The composite films with superior electrical heating and EMI shielding performance were obtained by a facile and novel method. • The composite film achieved superior electrothermal response under the voltage of as low as 6 V, and maintained stable performance after multiple cyclic tests. • The film attained an EMI shielding effectiveness of 24 dB, and reflection palyed an important role. • The performances were in good accordance with the COMSOL simulation results, further enabling the reliability. • The superior properties of material enabled it as a promising a material for wearable thermal management and electronic device electromagnetic compatibility fields. Flexible multifunctional composites show great potential in emerging wearable electronics. Nevertheless, most reported materials have several limitations, including high filler loading, intricate fabrication process and poor functional synergy, which cannot satisfy the requirements of stable electrothermal performance and electromagnetic protection for wearable devices. Therefore, this study proposed a “brick-mortar” structure to improve the carbon nanotube dispersion, and constructed continuous conductive pathways, achieving synchronous electrothermal and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding performance. Accordingly, tea polyphenol-modified multi-walled carbon nanotubes (T-MWCNTs)/poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS)/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) composite films (TPFs) were prepared via layer-by-layer deposition. The “brick” network was formed by T-MWCNTs and PEDOT:PSS provided continuous conductive paths, while PVA as the “mortar” enhanced the flexibility and interfacial adhesion. The composite film exhibited a rapid electrothermal response under 6 V, reaching to 123 °C within 90 s with superior cycling stability. It also showed an EMI shielding effectiveness of 24 dB, and reflection played an important role. These results were verified by COMSOL simulation as well. TPFs shows promising potential in wearable thermal management and electromagnetic compatibility. Download: Download high-res image (151KB) Download: Download full-size image

Low-cost PCB‑gold electrode with superior electron kinetics. • MWCNTs/Nafion network boosts sensitivity and selectivity. • High performance: 1–70 μM linear range and 202 nM LOD. • Strong anti-biofouling and selectivity in complex media. • Direct dopamine detection in 3D dECM neuronal models. Dopamine (DA) is a crucial neurotransmitter whose abnormal fluctuations are linked to neurological disorders such as Parkinson's disease. Detecting DA in complex biological matrices faces challenges from coexisting interferents and electrode biofouling. Here, we developed a carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs-COOH) and Nafion-modified printed circuit board gold electrode (PCB-AuE) for selective DA detection. The PCB-AuE platform offers superior electron transfer kinetics, ultra-low cost, and design flexibility compared to commercial electrodes. The synergistic MWCNTs-COOH/Nafion modification provides a highly conductive 3D network with abundant active sites while electrostatically repelling anionic interferents (ascorbic acid and uric acid). The sensor achieved a broad linear range (1–70 μM), high sensitivity (1.98 μA/μM), and low detection limit (202 nM) with excellent reproducibility (RSD = 4.8%). Despite an 8.5% signal attenuation in culture media versus PBS, the sensor maintained reliable detection capability. The platform successfully detected endogenous DA secreted by skin-derived precursors (SKPs)-derived dopaminergic neurons cultured in 3D brain decellularized extracellular matrix scaffolds. This disposable, cost-effective sensor provides a practical analytical tool for neurotransmitter monitoring in complex 3D tissue models with significant potential for disease diagnosis and drug screening applications. Schematic representation of the fabrication and application of a nanocomposite-modified PCB gold electrode array for dopamine detection in 3D neuronal models. Sensor Fabrication and Surface Modification. A Printed Circuit Board (PCB) gold electrode array is utilized as the transducer platform. The three-electrode system consists of a central Working Electrode (WE), a surrounding Counter Electrode (CE), and a Pseudo-Reference Electrode (Pseudo-RE). The WE surface is modified via drop-casting with a nanocomposite ink comprising carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs-COOH) and Nafion. The MWCNTs-COOH provide a high-surface-area conductive network, while Nafion acts as a cation-exchange polymer. Construction of the 3D Dopaminergic Neuronal Model. Skin-derived precursor cells (SKPs) are cultured as spheres and subjected to a 14-day neural induction protocol to generate mature dopaminergic neurons (SKPs-DA), confirmed by tyrosine hydroxylase (TH + ) expression. These neurons are subsequently encapsulated within a decellularized extracellular matrix (dECM) scaffold to create a biomimetic 3D SKPs-DA neuronal tissue. Cell viability within the scaffold is validated via Live/Dead staining (Calcein-AM/Ethidium homodimer-1). Electrochemical Dopamine (DA) Detection and Sensing Mechanism. The modified electrode exhibits high sensitivity (1.98 μA/μM) and a low limit of detection (202 nM) within a linear range of 1–70 μM. The sensing mechanism leverages the synergistic effects of the nanocomposite: (1) The negatively charged sulfonate groups in Nafion electrostatically attract cationic dopamine (DA + ). (2) Anionic species such as ascorbic acid (AA) and uric acid (UA) are repelled by the Nafion layer, enhancing selectivity. (3) Differential Pulse Voltammetry (DPV) shows a distinct oxidation peak at approximately 0.1 V for the SKPs-DA supernatant compared to undifferentiated controls, demonstrating the sensor's efficacy in monitoring neurotransmitter release in complex biological matrices. An effective multi-walled carbon nanotubes/manganese dioxide (MWCNTs/MnO 2 ) nanocomposite-based polythiophene coating was prepared by electrodepositing MWCNTs , MnO 2 , and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) on a stainless-steel wire. After the headspace solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME) based on the prepared coating, four polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) with lower boiling point were determined by gas chromatography-flame ionization detection (GC-FID). The extraction efficiency of MWCNTs/MnO 2 /PEDOT composite coating was nearly 100 times higher than that of pure PEDOT coating, and nearly 20% higher than MWCNTs/PEDOT coating. The proposed HS-SPME-GC-FID analytical method had superior performance with good linearities (0.5–250 ng·g −1 ) and low limits of detection (LOD) (0.1–0.8 ng·g −1 ), which was successfully applied to the determination of PAHs in real soil samples.

Bimetal oxide-based compounds have potential in the degradation of antibiotics in wastewater. In this study, cobalt-ferrite-coated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CoFe 2 O 4 /MWCNTs) have been synthesized by solvothermal method and characterized. Then, the degradation of sulfadiazine (SDZ) by CoFe 2 O 4 /MWCNTs activated peroxymonosulfate (PMS) system was determined, mainly including the effects of CoFe 2 O 4 /MWCNTs dosage, PMS concentration, solution pH, initial SDZ concentration, and co-existing anions on the degradation of SDZ. Based on reactive oxygen species identification and XPS analysis, the possible reaction mechanisms were investigated. In addition, the potential degradation pathways of SDZ were discussed. The results showed that CoFe 2 O 4 /MWCNTs exhibited superior catalytic activity and stability toward SDZ removal, and 97.5% of SDZ was degraded within 30 min under the condition of CoFe 2 O 4 /MWCNTs dosage 0.3 g/L, PMS concentration 0.5 mM and solution pH 7. The possible mechanism of PMS activation by CoFe 2 O 4 /MWCNTs involved both free-radical and non-radical pathways, and the generated reactive species (SO 4 •− , • OH, O 2 •− and 1 O 2 ) were responsible for the degradation of SDZ. In addition, four potential degradation pathways were proposed and 15 intermediates were identified. In view of the ecotoxicity assessment, it was found that the toxicity of the degradation intermediates was lower than that of SDZ. Overall, this study established an effective strategy for PMS activation to remove recalcitrant organic pollutants in wastewater.

Wearable sensors with a three-dimensional (3D) structural design and electromagnetic shielding performance are significant for the future development of wearable electronic devices. However, it remains a challenge to achieve the target goals. Herein, the thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU)/Ti 3 C 2 T x (MXene)/MnFe 2 O 4 /Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) ( i.e ., TMMM) composites were innovatively designed using parametric Voronoi structure with different pore sizes and porosity upon fused deposition molding (FDM) printing. The two-dimensional (2D) MXene/zero-dimensional (0D) MnFe 2 O 4 hybrid fillers were built initially by electrostatic bonding strategy, followed by adding the one-dimensional (1D) MWCNTs as a conductive bridging agent, this way endowed the nanofillers with different dimensions uniformly dispersed to form a superb conductive network structure in the TPU matrix. When applied as pressure sensors , the TMMM composites exhibited adjustable gauge factor (GF = 1.33–3.73), extensive sensing compression range (∼89% strain with 12.03 MPa stress), good durability (6000s cyclic compression), which was very conducive to monitoring human motion, such as finger bending, wrist bending, speech recognition, etc . The sensing mechanisms were also studied using the Finite element simulations , and the variation trend of resistance change was in good agreement with the simulation results. The average electromagnetic interference shielding efficiency (EMI SE) value of the 2.1 mm-thick printed composite reached 31.2 dB , suggesting that 99.9242% of electromagnetic waves can be shielded. The proposed strategy not only provided a solution to reduce the weight of electromagnetic shielding materials , but also provided an efficient method for developing porous 3D printed parts with adjustable sensing properties at the macroscopic scale towards wearable electronic devices.

In recent years, pressure sensors with high sensitivity and flexibility have been widely used in the fields of wearable electronics, soft robots, medical monitoring, and so on. In this paper, a through-hole structure comprising of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MwCNTs)/carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC)/polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) was constructed through an ice template method and then it functioned as the dielectric layer of a newly made flexible capacitive pressure sensor. The sensitivity, stability, response time, and human applicability of the sensor were fully studied. The experimental method with ice template has the advantages of environmental protection and safety. More importantly, through the regulation of chemical composition, the porous sponge can have a specific pore morphology. The experimental e results showed that the dielectric layer with a through-hole structure had been built successfully and the PDMS resin was impregnated into the through-hole structure. The MwCNTs/CMC/PDMS capacitive pressure sensor possessed a high sensitivity (~ 2.143 kPa −1 ) and good stability in the low-pressure range (0–1 kPa). Moreover, a low detection limit (~ 3 Pa) and fast response time (~ 250 ms) were obtained. Human applicability tests revealed that our flexible sensor could catch the response of the human body swiftly so that it exhibited bright application prospects in wearable electronics.

Cu-MOF-derived Cu/Cu 2 O-embedded carbon integrated with MWCNTs-COOH. • Synergistic hetero-interface with Cu⁺ Lewis acid sites and conductive network. • Sensitive L -DOPA detection with 0.007 μM LOD and broad linear range. • Effective anti-interference against uric acid in biological matrices. • Validated applicability in human serum and urine samples (94.8–105.2%). Reliable monitoring of levodopa ( L -DOPA) is clinically crucial for optimizing Parkinson’s disease therapy and minimizing side effects. Herein, a sensitive electrochemical sensor was constructed using a composite of Cu-MOF-derived Cu/Cu 2 O-embedded carbon integrated with carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (C-Cu-MOF/MWCNTs-COOH). The key innovation of this work lies in designing a synergistic hetero-interface where carbonization yields Cu and Cu 2 O species within a carbon framework, while the incorporated MWCNTs-COOH establish a conductive network that facilitates electron transfer. The enhanced electrochemical response arises from the synergistic interaction between the mixed-valence copper species and the carbon framework. Specifically, Cu + serves as Lewis acid sites for L -DOPA enrichment while the carbon scaffold together with Cu 0 promotes interfacial electron transfer. Kinetic analysis reveals an adsorption-controlled process involving two-electron and two-proton transfer. Under optimized conditions, the sensor delivers a broad linear response (0.01–15 μM) with a low detection limit of 0.007 μM, alongside satisfactory repeatability, reproducibility, and long-term stability (94.3% retention after 21 days). Notably, uric acid (UA), a major coexisting interferent in physiological fluids with overlapping oxidation potential, is well resolved from L -DOPA at the modified electrode, causing negligible interference in coexistent measurements. Practical applicability is further validated by recoveries of 94.8–105.2% in human serum and urine samples. These results demonstrate that C-Cu-MOF/MWCNTs-COOH is a highly effective sensing platform for L -DOPA, combining excellent sensitivity, selectivity, and practical utility for clinical monitoring.

In this study, the composite of Prussian blue-carboxylated MWCNTs/ZIF-67 (PB-MWCNTs-COOH/ZIF-67) was synthesized and used as modified electrode material to fabricate an electrochemical sensor for the determination of paracetamol (PAR). In this sensor system, negatively charged MWCNTs-COOH as support for the immobilization of positively charged PB can effectively avoid the agglomeration of PB and enhance the stability, conductivity and catalytic activity of the composite. ZIF-67 particles coating outside PB-MWCNTs-COOH promotes the concentration of PAR. Benefiting from the synergistic effect, the PB-MWCNTs-COOH/ZIF-67 based sensor exhibits significantly improved electrochemical sensing behavior toward the oxidation of PAR. Under the optimum conditions, the PAR sensor presents wide linear ranges of 0.01–70 μM with a low limit of detection of 3.3 nM (S/N = 3). The method also possesses long-term stability, good reproducibility and selectivity, and was employed to the determination of PAR contents in PAR tablets sample.
