A highly solar active AgBr/h-MoO 3 composite was constructed by a facile precipitation method, and the charge separation tuning was achieved by photoreduction of AgBr. The photoreduced Ag 0 on AgBr/h-MoO 3 acted as charge transfer bridge to form Z-scheme heterostructure, while the high degree of Ag reduction converted the material into type-II heterostructure. The synthesized optimal material promoted charge separation and visible light activity due to the incorporation of highly solar active AgBr, which showed ca. 2 times activity on trimethoprim (TMP) degradation than h-MoO 3 . The contribution of reactive species on TMP degradation followed the order of O 2 − > 1 O 2 > h + , which agree well with the proposed charge separation mechanism. The photocatalytic degradation mechanism of TMP was proposed based on the radical quenching, intermediate analysis and DFT calculation. The toxicity analysis based on QSAR calculation showed that part of the degradation intermediates are more toxic than TMP, thus sufficient mineralization are required to eliminate the potential risks of treated water. Moreover, the material showed high stability and activity after four reusing cycles, and it is applicable to treat contaminants in various water matrix. This work is expected to provide new insight into the charge separation tuning mechanism for the AgX based heterojunction , and rational design of highly efficient photocatalysts for organic contaminants degradation by solar irradiation.

In effort to reveal the high-temperature lubrication mechanisms of ternary oxides containing Mo/Co/Ni, the tribological characteristics of atmospheric plasma sprayed (APS) NiCrAlY-MoO 3 /CoO composite coatings at elevated temperatures were investigated. The high-temperature lubrication mechanisms of Co/Ni-molybdate formed on worn surfaces were analyzed through experimental analysis and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The results demonstrate that the coefficient of friction (COF) of NiCrAlY coating after 30 % MoO 3 /CoO added decreased from 0.43 to 0.30 and the wear rate reduced from 5.00 × 10 −5 to 8.32 × 10 −6 mm 3 N −1 m −1 at 800 °C. This is ascribed to the synergistic lubrication effects of the layer crystal structured ternary oxides CoMoO 4 and NiMoO 4 , which are self-generated through tribo-chemical reactions on the worn surface at elevated temperatures. DFT calculations show that the binding energies of Co O (−1.05 eV) and Ni O (−0.61 eV) in the detected ternary oxides CoMoO 4 and NiMoO 4 are weaker than those of the corresponding bonds in binary oxides CoO (−1.99 eV) and NiO (−1.44 eV), and have potential to break more easily at high temperatures. Such layered structures with easy-to-break bonds of the ternary oxides containing Mo/Co/Ni provides excellent lubrication properties in the composite coatings.

Metal oxide nanoparticles as lubricant additives have attracted much attention, thanks to their excellent anti-wear ability and load-carrying capacity. Unfortunately, organic molybdenum, a small molecule auxiliary of zinc dialkyldithiophosphate (ZDDP) with high reactivity, exhibits poor load-bearing capacity. Therefore, molybdenum oxide nanoparticle (denoted as MONP) was surface-capped by dodecylamine (DDA) and maleic anhydride dodecyl ester (MADE) to obtain DDA/MADE-MONP, an organic-inorganic nanohybrid as a potential replacement of sulfur- and phosphorus-free commercial organic molybdenum additive (Organic-Mo). The as-prepared DDA/MADE-MONP nanohybrid was characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy; and its effect on the load-bearing capacity of an alkylated naphthalene base oil (AN30), as used alone and combined with ZDDP, was investigated. Results show that, whether used alone or combined with ZDDP, the as-prepared DDA/MADE-MONP has better load-bearing capacity than the commercial organic molybdenum additive. The reason lies in that DDA/MADE-MONP can release MoO 3 nanocores during the friction process to fill up the pits on the worn steel surface and form a dense protective tribofilm.

Herein, novel nanozyme mimics MoO 3 /MIL-125-NH 2 were reported and conjugated with bacteriophages as a new electrochemical probe for high sensitivity and specific electrochemical detection of staphylococcus aureus . The excellent peroxidase-like activity of MoO 3 /MIL-125-NH 2 composites was attributed to the integration of MIL-125-NH 2 with MoO 3 , which can boost the generation of superoxide radicals (O• 2 – ) and thus promote the oxidation of TMB in the presence of H 2 O 2 . In this work, two bacteriophages named SapYZU04 and SapYZU10 were isolated from sewage samples by using staphylococcus aureus YZUsa12 as the host. In comparison, MoO 3 /MIL-125-NH 2 @SapYZU04 was selected as a recognition agent. The DPV current declined linearly with staphylococcus aureus YZUsa12 concentration in the range of 10 1 −10 8 CFU mL −1 , with a low detection limit of 16 CFU mL −1 (S/N = 3). 20 strains including 13 host strains and 7 non-host strains were used to evaluate the selectivity of the proposed sensor. Regardless of the differences in the degrees of lytic performance for phage SapYZU04, all selected host strains can be screened with merely the same DPV current. Host spectrum-oriented bacteriophage sensing is of great importance for the practical application of bacteriophage-based biosensors in the future.

The shuttle effect of lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) and their sluggish kinetic processes lead to rapid capacity fading and poor cycling stability in lithium–sulfur (Li–S) batteries, limiting their commercial viability. This study proposes a functionalized separator with adsorption and synergistic catalysis ability for Li–S batteries. The modified separator comprises Ti 3 C 2 T x sheets, CoO, and MoO 3 . Experimental and theoretical calculations demonstrate that Ti 3 C 2 T x /CoO/MoO 3 composite not only effectively inhibits the shuttle effect of LiPSs, ensuring efficient utilization of active materials, but also enhances reversibility and reaction kinetics among LiPSs. The full exposure of active sites in the Ti 3 C 2 T x /CoO/MoO 3 composite and the synergistic action of different catalysts enable efficient capture and conversion of LiPSs molecules at the material surface. Besides, the lithium–sulfur batteries with Ti 3 C 2 T x /CoO/MoO 3 @PP separator exhibited only a 0.042% capacity decay per cycle at 0.5 C (800 cycles). Moreover, a high areal capacity of 6.85 mAh cm −2 was achieved at high sulfur loading (7.9 mg cm −2 ) and low electrolyte-to-sulfur ratio (10 μL mg −1 ).

The MoS2/MoO3 nano-heterojunction photocatalyst was synthesized via the in situ oxidation sintering method. The properties of the samples were characterized by XRD, SEM, EDX, TEM, UV-vis, PL, FT-IR, BET and electrochemical techniques. The MoS2/MoO3 nano-heterojunction (MS-400) exhibited significantly better photocatalytic activity toward Rhodamine B degradation (0.42634 h−1) than monomer MoS2 (∼8.0-folds) and MoO3 (∼25.6-folds). This is mainly attributed to the MoS2/MoO3 heterojunction interface having an appropriate potential gradient that can promote the interface carrier transportation/separation to optimize the carrier efficiency and increase the solar absorption and specific surface areas/active sites via microstructures.

In this study, a novel strategy was developed to synthesize a defect-rich, highly dispersed N, P co-doped molybdenum-based catalyst (MoO 3 /NCG-P) by anchoring phosphomolybdic acid (PMA) clusters onto dopamine (PDA)-modified graphene oxide (GO), followed by thermal treatment. The self-polymerized PDA layer not only served as a nitrogen-rich carbon precursor but also provided abundant anchoring sites for PMA immobilization, while PMA simultaneously acted as both the Mo and P sources. Upon pyrolysis, PMA was in situ decomposed into ultrafine molybdenum trioxide (MoO 3 ) nanoparticles enriched with vacancy defects, and uniformly dispersed on N, P co-doped porous graphene sheets (NCG-P) derived from GO@PDA. This process simultaneously generated strong interfacial coupling and a high density of defect sites, facilitated electron transfer between MoO 3 and the N, P co-doped carbon matrix, endowed the catalyst with enhanced structural stability and excellent surface accessibility. Benefiting from these structural and electronic advantages, in the oxidative desulfurization (ODS) of dibenzothiophene (DBT) using H 2 O 2 as the oxidant, MoO 3 /NCG-P achieved complete removal of 4000 ppm DBT within 20 min at 60 °C, using only 0.03 g of catalyst and a H 2 O 2 /S molar ratio of 2. Furthermore, the catalyst demonstrated excellent reusability, with no significant loss of activity observed over ten consecutive cycles. Mechanistic investigations based on free radical scavenging experiments and in situ electron paramagnetic resonance analysis confirmed that the ODS process predominantly follows a hydroxyl radical-mediated oxidation pathway. These findings offer valuable insights for the design of efficient, stable, and scalable molybdenum-based catalysts for practical ODS applications.

Photomultiplication-type photodetectors offer an effective strategy to achieve high gain without complex device architectures. However, most existing systems rely on relatively high operating voltages and exhibit relatively low device performance. In this paper, a high-performance PbS quantum dot near-infrared photodetector ITO/ZnO/PbS/[MoO 3 /Cu-NPs/MoO 3 ]/Ag, in which a Cu nanoparticles (Cu-NPs) layer is embedded in the MoO 3 hole-transporting layer to achieve plasmon-assisted photoconductive gain, is presented. As the result, an ultrahigh external quantum efficiency of 63,250 % with a specific detectivity ( D *) of 1.3 × 10 14 Jones are obtained from photodetector ITO/ZnO(60 nm)/PbS(240 nm)/[MoO 3 (20 nm)/Cu-NPs(2 nm)/MoO 3 (40 nm)]/Ag under 0.2 μW/cm 2 980 nm illumination at −1 V. Further, the underlain mechanism for the enhanced performance is discussed in detail with the help of finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulations, our results reveal that the incident light absorption into the device strongly depends on the thickness of the MoO 3 layer, as well as the size of the Cu-NPs and the embedding depth of Cu-NPs layer in the MoO 3 layer. Also, the optimal thickness of 60 nm for the MoO 3 layer, the diameter of 2 nm for Cu-NPs and a distance of 20 nm for Cu-NPs layer to the PbS/MoO 3 interface are determined and these parameters are in agreement with our experimental results. Therefore, it provides a facile method to obtain plasma-assisted photoconductive gain for near-IR optoelectronics.

99m Tc is one of the most widely used radioisotopes in nuclear medicine for diagnostic applications, with its supply critically dependent on the beta (β)-decay of the parent nuclide 99 Mo. To address this dependency, the cold sintering process has been introduced as a novel and facile technique to fabricate high-density MoO 3 ceramic targets for efficient 99 Mo production. It was explored in detail for the effects of transient liquid solutions, sintering temperature, uniaxial pressure, holding time, and additive formulation on the densification of raw MoO 3 powder. The results show that the typical transition solution of (NH 4 ) 6 Mo 7 O 24 ·4H 2 O and H 2 O mixture was most conducive to densifying MoO 3 material. The optimum conditions for cold sintering were under temperature of 200 °C, pressure of 500 MPa, holding time of 10 min, and transient aqueous solution of 10 wt.% (NH 4 ) 6 Mo 7 O 24 ·4H 2 O and 10 wt.% H 2 O. After further annealing cold-sintered MoO 3 at 600 °C, pure MoO 3 ceramic was obtained with the disappearance of the second phase. The pure MoO 3 ceramic target had a relative density of 95.48%, compressive strength of 118.01 MPa, and micro-Vickers hardness of 0.472 GPa. All these results suggested that cold sintering could be an energy-saving economical and efficient technique on the densification of MoO 3 for preparation its ceramic target, which are expected to inspire new insights to establish more practical technologies for 99 Mo and 99m Tc productions.

Silicon carbide (SiC) ceramic membrane supports, as critical components of ceramic membrane filters, must exhibit outstanding performance in mechanical properties, porosity, and chemical stability. In this study, MoO₃ was employed as a sintering aid, with SiC and α-Al₂O₃ serving as raw materials and walnut shell powder as a pore-forming agent. The effects of varying sintering temperatures (1250–1400°C) and MoO₃ contents on the properties of SiC porous ceramic membrane supports were systematically investigated. Special emphasis was placed on elucidating the mechanisms by which MoO₃ addition influences porosity, flexural strength, pore size distribution, and chemical stability. Experimental results demonstrate that the introduction of MoO₃ facilitates low-temperature sintering of SiC supports through a dissolution-precipitation mechanism. This process promotes the formation of mullite whiskers that reinforce interparticle necking regions while enhancing the uniformity of neck connections. Optimal performance was achieved at 1350°C with 8 wt% MoO₃ addition, yielding a bending strength of 37.01 ± 1.72 MPa, average pore size of 1.735 μm, most probable pore size of 1.7 μm, open porosity of 39.12 %, and exceptional corrosion resistance. This work establishes both theoretical foundations and practical strategies for low-temperature fabrication of high-performance SiC porous ceramics, while expanding the application potential of molybdenum-based sintering aids in structure-function integrated ceramic materials.

A series of MoO3/ZrO2 catalysts were prepared by impregnation method, and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), specific surface area (BET) and temperature-programmed desorption of NH3 (NH3-TPD). The polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) was prepared by ring-opening polymerization from D4 and MM with MoO3/ZrO2 catalysts. The effects of MoO3/ZrO2 catalysts preparation conditions on PDMS molecular weight and reaction conversion rate were discussed. Moreover, the effects of reaction conditions on the ring-opening polymerization were also studied. During the preparation of PDMS, the molecular weight of the product can be controlled by adjusting the mass ratio of D4:MM. The MoO3/ZrO2 catalyst was compared with other catalysts during the ring-opening process, and the repeated times of MoO3/ZrO2 catalysts were also studied. The results showed that MoO3/ZrO2 catalyst had more excellent catalytic performance, for ring-opening process, and when the repeated times was more than 5, the catalytic activity decreased significantly. In addition, the kinetics of D4 ring-opening polymerization with the MoO3/ZrO2 catalyst was investigated.

Hetero-MoO 3 /MoO 2 @N-doped carbon nanobelt anodes (h-MoO 3 /MoO 2 @NC) with long lifespan and superior rate capability were proposed by a simple in situ reduction tactic, in which pristine MoO 3 was transformed into heterogeneous MoO 3 /MoO 2 . The hetero-MoO 3 /MoO 2 architecture significantly improves the electronic conductivity and affords abundant oxygen deficiencies. Meanwhile, the synergistic effect of internal MoO 3 /MoO 2 heterostructure and outer N-doped carbon layer (NC) accomplishes a balance of sustainable potassium/sodium storage and ultra-durable structure stability. In potassium ion batteries, the anodes steadily maintain a reversible capacity of 283 mAh g −1 after 6000 cycles at 0.5 A g −1 and 153 mAh g −1 after 1000 cycles under 2 A g −1 , as well as an impressive rate capability of 131 mAh g −1 at 3 A g −1 . In sodium ion batteries, the anodes purchase a steady capacity of 152 mAh g −1 even after 10,000 cycles at 2 A g −1 , and 190 mAh g −1 after 5000 cycles at 0.5 A g −1 . Moreover, the h-MoO 3 /MoO 2 @NC composite possesses a prominent pseudocapacitive effect and good thermal adaptability (−10 to 50 °C) in both KIBs and SIBs . The results indicate that the h-MoO 3 /MoO 2 @NC composite would be an auspicious material for potassium/sodium storage and other ion batteries.
