Ascorbic acid is one of the important vitamins to maintain human life activities and plays an irreplaceable role in regulating human redox metabolism. Fresh fruit can provide plenty of AA to maintain human metabolic balance. Thus, it is great significant to develop a rapid and convenient method for detection of AA to evaluate the freshness and nutritional quality of fruits. In this work, Fe single-atom nanoenzyme (Fe-SAN) based colorimetric sensor assisted with smartphone was designed for rapid and on-site AA detection in tropical fruits. Firstly, Fe-SAN with high oxidase-mimicking activity was synthesized by using green tea leaves as sources of carbon and nitrogen and NaH 2 PO 2 as P source to obtain Fe-P/N C SAN, in which P was used to reconstruct the distribution of electronic to enhance the oxidase-mimicking activity of Fe-SAN. Besides, the as-synthesized Fe-P/N C SAN with remarkable oxidase-like activities could oxidize 3,3́,5,5́-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to blue colored oxidized TMB. AA could inhibit the oxidation of TMB, leading to blue fading. Based on the above principle, colorimetric sensor integrated with smartphone RGB mode was fabricated and exhibited a good linear detection range (0.5–100 μM) and low detection limit of 0.315 μM for AA detection under optimal conditions. More importantly, the developed sensor could rapidly and accurately detect AA in real sample, such as pineapple, wax apple and mango. Therefore, this research provides a new cost-effective method for the efficient and exact detection of AA in tropical fruit, which has a broad application prospect.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) derived Co-based catalysts have received extensive attention in the chemoselective hydrogenation of nitroarenes, while they usually require a lot of solvent during the synthesis and identification of active species. This study explores a solid-phase synthesis strategy to obtain MOF precursors without using any solvent, which is then foamed and pyrolyzed to synthesize the Co@NC-X catalyst. It was found that a nitrogen-doped graphene shell can well encapsulate the Co nanoparticles. The resulting catalyst, which was pyrolyzed at 800°C, exhibited ~100% conversion for the hydrogenation of 3-nitrostyrene and >99% selectivity to 3-vinylaniline. This catalyst also showed excellent stability and good substrate universality for the hydrogenation of extensive substituted nitroarenes. Various characterizations revealed a positive relationship between the catalytic performance and the content of Co—N species tuned by pyrolysis temperature. This work provides a novel and green strategy to design an efficient Co-based catalyst for chemoselective hydrogenation.

Graphical Access to bio-nitrogenous chemicals : A Co-embedded N-doped carbon nanocatalyst can efficiently promote Leuckart-type reductive amination of biomass-derived carbonyls to prepare N-formyl compounds, which benefits from the synergy of its Co NPs and N base sites. The initial formation of the C−N bond occurs between carbonyls and H 2 NCHO rather than HCOONH 4 . It is of great significance to develop non-precious metal catalysts with excellent catalytic activity, stability, and acid resistance for biomass valorization. Herein, catalytic amination of biomass carbonyl compounds was achieved via a Leuckart-type reaction over Co nanoparticles (NPs) embedded N -doped carbon catalyst, which was prepared by thermolysis of ZIF-67 precursor at different temperatures in the N 2 atmosphere. The Co/NC-800 catalyst exhibited excellent catalytic activity and recyclability in furfural reductive amination to mono-substituted formamide, which was attributed to the synergistic catalytic action of Co NPs and nitrogen base sites of the catalyst. The reductive amination mechanisms were elucidated by theoretical calculations, and showed that the initial formation of C−N bond was derived from the condensation of furfural and formamide, followed by dehydration to form C=N double bond, which was then reduced by hydrogen species Co−H − and NH + . The developed catalytic system was applicable to different carbonyls for the synthesis of corresponding N -formyl compounds with up to 99 % yield.

Construction of high-sensitive analytical platform to monitor organic pollutants in the environment is of significance. Nitrophenol is toxic organic pollutant, causing serious damage to biosphere. Herein, a simple self-assembled method was proposed to design a novel heterostructure (MXene/ ZIF) composed of Nb 2 CT X and Zn-Co-ZIFs derived bimetallic Zn, Co embedded N-doped carbon (Zn-Co-NC) nanocage. The Nb 2 CT X / Zn-Co-NC composite modified electrodes were applied for the electrochemical detection of 4-nitrophenols (4-NP). SEM images revealed that the insertion of Zn-Co-NC can effectively avoid Nb 2 CTx from restacking. EDS and XPS demonstrated the successful synthesis of bimetallic Zn, Co embedded N-doped carbon nanocage. Excellent conductivity and large specific surface area of Nb 2 CTx as well as superior catalytic activity of Zn-Co-NC nanocage enhance the electrochemical performance of Nb 2 CTx/ Zn-Co-NC sensor. Under optimal conditions, the achieved wide linear range was 1 μM to 500 μM. The low detection limit of 0.070 μM with high sensitivity of 4.65 μA μM −1 cm -2 was obtained. Furthermore, the Nb 2 CTx/ Zn-Co-NC sensor holds outstanding selectivity and stability. Therefore, the innovative structure and excellent properties of MXene/ ZIF make them alternative materials for various electrochemical sensors for the detection of other toxic organic pollutants.

The direct determination Mn 2+ using carboxymethyl chitosan crosslinked with cyclodextrin containing hydrogen-bonded N C QDs (N C QD/CCSCD nanocomposites). The probable mechanism of the N C QD/CCSCD nanocomposites' fluorescence was quenched by Mn 2+ could be interpreted as acyclic crown ether chelation. Mn 2+ induced the N C QD/CCSCD clusters assembly to form large aggregates, which resulted in aggregation-caused quenching. The linear detection ( I = 479.93–15.94C (R 2 = 0.9954)) can be established at Mn 2+ concentrations from 0 to 21.11 × 10 −6 mol/L. Common metal ions, except iron and magnesium, showed minimal effect on detection. It could satisfy the standard range of Mn 2+ in actual water samples. The method which using chelating assembly mechanism to build a novel sensor would provide a new model for the application of polymer materials in this field, but the precise assembly of polymer is an unsolved challenge.

Carbon materials featuring hierarchical pores and atomically dispersed metal sites are promising catalysts for energy storage and conversion applications. Herein, we developed a facile strategy to construct functional carbon materials with a fluffy peony-like structure and dense binary FeCo-N x active sites (termed as f-FeCo-CNT). By regulating the metal content in precursors, a three-dimensional (3D) interconnected conductive carbon nanotubes network was in-situ formed throughout the atomically dispersed FeCo-NC matrix during pyrolysis. Taking advantage of rich pore hierarchy and co-existence of highly active FeCo-N x sites and beneficial FeCo alloy nanoparticles, the f-FeCo-CNT material exhibited excellent bifunctional performance towards oxygen reduction reaction/oxygen evolution reactions (ORR/OER) with respect to the atomically dispersed FeCo-NC (SA-f-FeCo-NC) and commercial Pt/C+RuO 2 mixture, surpassing the SA-f-FeCo-NC with a 20 mV higher ORR half-wave potential and a 100 mV lower OER overpotential (at 10.0 mA/cm 2 ). Remarkably, the f-FeCo-CNT-assembled Zn-air battery (ZAB) possessed a maximum specific power of 195.8 mW/cm 2 , excellent rate capability, and very good cycling stability at large current density of 20.0 mA/cm 2 . This work provides a facile and feasible synthetic strategy of constructing low-cost cathode materials with excellent comprehensive ZAB performance.

Two-dimensional van der Waals heterojunctions (2D vdWHs) have received significant attention owing to their extraordinary properties such as the reduced energy barriers and efficient charge transfer. However, there is limited research about the construction of 2D vdWHs in electrocatalysts for improving multifunctional performance. Herein, we report a sandwich-like structured Co-MOF/TiN/NC-240 electrocatalyst with 2D vdWHs by one-step high-temperature solid-state and room-temperature ultrasonication methods, with 2D Co-MOF nanosheets uniformly assembled on the TiN/NC substrate. Ultraviolet Photoelectron Spectroscopy (UPS) reveal that the work function difference between Co-MOF and TiN/NC drives electron transfer from TiN/NC to Co-MOF, thereby modulating the metal oxidation state. The Co-MOF/TiN/NC-240 electrocatalyst exhibits boosted trifunctional electrocatalytic performances for ORR, OER, and HER , which can be attributed to the successful construction of 2D vdWHs, inducing effective electron redistribution via the heterogeneous interface and increasing the number of active sites. Moreover, the zinc-air battery (ZAB) and water-splitting device based on Co-MOF/TiN/NC-240 exhibit enhanced discharge capacity and superior efficiency, respectively. This study not only provides an effective design strategy to develop trifunctional electrocatalysts by constructing 2D vdWHs but also offers valuable insights into the enhanced electrocatalytic performance in the sustainable energy field.

Transition-metal sulfides (TMS) are one of the most promising cathode catalysts for Li–O2 batteries (LOBs) owing to their excellent stabilities and inherent metallicity. In this work, a highly efficient mode has been used to synthesize Co@CNTs [pyrolysis products of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs)]-derived CoS2(CoS)@NC. Benefiting from the special yolk–shell hierarchical porous morphology, the existence of Co–N bonds, and dual-function catalytic activity (ORR/OER) of the open metal sites contributed by MOFs, the CoS2@NC-400/AB electrode illustrated excellent charge–discharge cycling for up to nearly 100 times at a current density of 0.1 mA cm–2 under a limited capacity of 500 mA h g–1 (based on the total weight of CoS2@NC and AB) with a high discharge voltage plateau and a low charge cut-off voltage. Meanwhile, the average transferred electron number (n) is around 3.7 per O2 molecule for CoS2@NC-400, which is the chief approach for a four-electron pathway of the ORR under alkaline media. Therefore, we believe that the novel CoS2@NC-400/AB electrode could serve as an excellent catalyst in the LOBs.

To address the issues of poor cycling stability and unrealized theoretical capacity of layered molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) as an anode material—caused by severe volume expansion during charge/discharge processes—we innovatively propose a "partial carbonization" modification strategy for ZIF-8 templates. This approach successfully constructs a ZnS/NC "dodecahedral nursery" rich in active sites. Benefiting from the abundant anchoring sites provided by this structure, MoS 2 can uniformly and firmly "take root" on the "nursery" via Mo–N bonds, ultimately forming a composite material (ZnS/NC@MoS 2 ) in which MoS 2 nanoflowers uniformly coat the dodecahedral framework. This composite effectively mitigates the volume expansion of MoS 2 and enhances overall structural stability. Moreover, the zinc retained by the partial carbonization strategy, after sulfidation, contributes additional capacity via conversion reactions, further enhancing the material's electrochemical performance. Specifically, when used as an anode for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), it maintains a specific capacity of 895.64 mAh g −1 after 1200 cycles at 2 A g −1 ; for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs), its specific capacity increases from 348 mAh g −1 to 510 mAh g −1 after 500 cycles at 1 A g −1 .

This study presents a novel electrochemical strategy for detecting organophosphorus pesticides based on the synergistic catalytic of red kidney bean esterase (RKBE) and iron–cobalt dual-atom catalyst embedded in N-doped carbon carrier (FeCo–NC). RKBE was extracted from the widely cultivated British red kidney beans ( Phaseolus vulgaris L.) . FeCo–NC exhibited excellent electrocatalytic and peroxidase-like activity, catalyzing o -phenylenediamine oxidation to produce electroactive 2,3-diaminophenazine, which served as signal probe generating a sensitive cathodic current. Notably, RKBE product 1-naphthol inhibited FeCo–NC activity, while organophosphorus pesticides counteracted this inhibition by suppressing RKBE activity, restoring the electrochemical signal of 2,3-diaminophenazine. Leveraging this signal-regulation mechanism, a dichlorvos sensor was developed, with wide linear range (50–50,000 pM), low detection limit (14 pM), and excellent real-sample recovery (93.33%–107.08%), demonstrating practical application potential. This study provides an affordable and easy-to-operate approach for large-scale on-site monitoring of organophosphorus pesticide residues in foods.

Amaranth (AM) is a widely used synthetic azo food colorant that poses severe toxicological risks upon excessive consumption, creating an urgent need for its ultra-sensitive detection. We report a high-performance electrochemical sensor based on the electrostatic co-aggregation of V 2 O 3 @NC and NHCS for the high-fidelity quantification of AM. A unique “capture-and-catalysis” synergistic mechanism governs this composite interface. Specifically, the highly porous NHCS framework provides exceptional capacity to capture and pre-concentrate target molecules while acting as a highly conductive “electronic bridge.” Subsequently, the abundant mixed-valence (V 3+ /V 5+ ) sites of the V 2 O 3 @NC serve as a robust electrocatalytic engine to drive the catalysis, significantly amplifying the AM oxidation signal. Combining electrochemical kinetic analysis with DFT calculations (including HOMO and MEP), we reveal that this electrocatalytic evolution proceeds via a directional 1 H + /2e − transfer mechanism. Under optimal conditions, the V 2 O 3 @NC/NHCS sensor exhibits a broad linear range (0.01–12 µM) and an extremely low LOD of 0.80 nM. Practical analysis of commercial beverages yielded recoveries of 95.0%–104.3%, with results perfectly matching orthogonal UV-Vis cross-validation. This work provides a robust platform for azo dye screening and profound insights into the rational design of “capture-and-catalysis” composite interfaces. Graphical abstract

Silicon suboxides (SiO x ) are promising anodes for lithium-ion batteries, but their practical application is hindered by severe volume fluctuation and sluggish (de)lithiation kinetics. Herein, a hierarchical disproportionated-SiO x -based composite, D-SiO x @NC/C@CNTs/rGO-2, consisting of disproportionated SiO x (D-SiO x ) with in situ generated Si/SiO 2 domains, a nitrogen-doped carbon/carbon (NC/C) interphase, and an interconnected CNTs/rGO conductive framework, is constructed through thermal disproportionation, interphase engineering, and multidimensional conductive-network design. Thermal disproportionation induces the in situ formation of Si domains embedded in a SiO 2 buffering matrix, in which Si provides lithium-storage activity while SiO 2 alleviates volume variation and enhances structural stability. Meanwhile, a conformal nitrogen-doped carbon interphase mitigates chemo-mechanical stress and stabilizes the active interface, and the intertwined CNTs/rGO framework builds an efficient conductive network. As a result, the optimized anode delivers a reversible capacity of 876.4 mAh·g −1 after 500 cycles at 0.5 A g −1 , with a capacity retention of 83.7%, while electrode swelling is suppressed to ≈52% versus ≈159% for bare D-SiO x . Operando electrochemical impedance spectroscopy combined with distribution of relaxation times reveals reduced interfacial polarization and faster apparent Li + transport. A pre-lithiated LFP||D-SiO x @NC/C@CNTs/rGO-2 full cell also shows an initial Coulombic efficiency of 96.15% and stable cycling over 200 cycles.
