Rare-earth-free carbon nitride luminescent materials that remain bright during prolonged high-temperature operation are highly desirable for harsh-environment optoelectronics, yet their emission is often limited by thermally activated non-radiative pathways and accelerated weathering under ultraviolet (UV) irradiation. Here, we report a K/Na co-regulated carbon nitride (K/Na-CN) prepared via a solid-state route. Temperature-dependent photoluminescence (PL) measurements show a well-preserved emission band with only limited chromaticity deviation over a broad heating window. Under vacuum, K/Na-CN retains ~ 50% of its initial PL intensity at 300 °C and maintains ~ 70% PL intensity after holding at 300 °C for 60 min. During UV aging (0–192h), the powder PL intensity increases to ~ 1.7–1.8 × at 48h, reaches a maximum of ~ 2.4 × at 144h, and remains at ~ 1.5 × after 192h, which indicates robust emissive states despite irradiation-driven defect-state rebalancing. After incorporation of K/Na-CN into PMMA to prepare transparent luminescent plates, at an optimized loading, the composite shows the best dispersion and maintains high optical clarity (visible transmittance > 80% and reflectance < 12%), while providing improved UV service behavior. After UV exposure, the composite emission exhibits a systematic blue shift from ~ 530 nm (0h) to ~ 500 nm (48 h) and ~ 480 nm (96h). Meanwhile, the weak intensity gap is consistent with bulk particle aggregation and inner-filter effects limiting the effective radiative gain. Overall, K/Na-CN combines sustained high-temperature fluorescence with UV-tolerant performance in both powders and transparent polymer composites, offering a practical platform for long-service luminescent components operating under heat and irradiation stress.

The practical application of P2-type sodium cathodes is restricted by intrinsic Na + /vacancy ordering and unstable cathode-electrolyte interphases (CEI). While conventional inactive-element doping improves stability, it typically sacrifices specific capacity. Addressing these challenges, we demonstrate that trace Bi doping simultaneously boosts specific capacity, cycling life, and rate performance, effectively circumventing the classic capacity-stability trade-off. The concurrent improvement primarily originates from Bi-induced structural modulation, which we quantitatively characterize through a newly proposed oxygen-ion displacement rate ( δ O ) descriptor. Through doping control, we successfully synthesized two P2-type materials with significantly distinct δ O values (∼38.07 % vs. ∼31.58 %), demonstrating the critical role of δ O in governing electrochemical performance. The material with ultra-low δ O has suppressed Na + /vacancy ordering due to its weak Na-O correlations. Additionally, its strong TM-O correlations effectively inhibit TM (transition metals) dissolution, construct a stable CEI, and alleviate the lattice strain. Consequently, this material exhibits delivers a 23.1 % enhancement in specific capacity, exceptional cycling stability (72.9 % capacity retention after 1000 cycles), and remarkable rate performance by achieving a 51.1 % capacity within just 34 s. This work introduces a pioneering perspective based on oxygen-ion displacement for designing high-performance oxide cathode materials.

P2-type Na x Li y Mn 1– y O 2 layered
oxides represent a promising class of cathode materials for sodium-ion
batteries, capable of delivering a high specific capacity by leveraging
anionic redox reactions. However, their practical application is often
hampered by issues such as Na + /vacancy ordering and irreversible
oxygen release, which significantly impair the rate capability and
cycling stability. To address the aforementioned problem, this work
demonstrates that introducing trace La into P2–Na 0.6 Li 0.2 Mn 0.8 O 2 fundamentally alters
the Na + distribution between Na e and Na f sites in the sodium layer and suppresses Na + /vacancy
ordering. More importantly, the high bond energy of La–O significantly
enhances the stability of lattice oxygen, suppressing irreversible
oxygen release during cycling and thereby simultaneously improving
the reversibility of redox reactions and structural integrity. Electrochemical
tests demonstrate that the optimized LM-La0.04 cathode delivers a
high discharge capacity of 193.5 mAh g –1 at 0.2
C and retains a reversible capacity of 86.8 mAh g –1 even at 10 C, highlighting its superior rate performance. Furthermore,
the material exhibits remarkable capacity retention in long-term cycling.
A combination of in situ and ex situ characterization techniques and theoretical calculations was employed
to elucidate the charge compensation mechanism and structural evolution
of the La-doped system during electrochemical cycling. This work provides
new insights into the regulatory role of lanthanum in layered oxides
and offers a feasible doping strategy for developing anion-redox-based
cathode materials with a high energy density and long cycling stability.

Graphical A novel deep eutectic electrolyte (DEE) based on NaFSi and ethyl-2-cyano-3-ethoxyacrylate is developed for sodium-metal batteries. The introduction of ploy(vinylene carbonate) cross-linking network in novel DEE 1/3 could regulate the solvation shell structure of DEE 1/3 , thus facilitating the fast Na + transport and contributing to the uniform Na deposition process. Deep eutectic electrolyte (DEE) with intrinsic nonflammability is deemed as a promising electrolyte candidate for high safety sodium-metal batteries (SMBs). Nevertheless, the leakage risk and inferior electrode compatibility impede their further application toward high-performance SMBs. Herein, a novel DEE based on sodium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (NaFSi) and ethyl-2-cyano-3-ethoxyacrylate (ECE) is developed through their Lewis acid–base interaction and the further ECE-based deep eutectic gel electrolyte (GE) is constructed with cross-linked ploy(vinylene carbonate) (PVC) as matrix network. It is demonstrated that incorporating electron-withdrawing PVC polymer into the ECE-based DEE changes the coordination environment of Na + ions, thus facilitating the Na-ions desolvation and transport and leading to a high transference number of Na-ions (0.7). Moreover, the strong interaction between PVC chains and Na-ions can induce the preferential reduction of PVC to form O-rich inorganic solid electrolyte interphase (SEI), thus promoting the electrode/electrolyte interfacial stability with superior long-term cycling stability. Benefiting from the stable SEI layer, the Na 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 3 //Na cell with GE displays outstanding cycling (capacity retention of 94.5% after 300 cycles at 1C) and rate (high capacity of 75.5 mAh g −1 at 2 °C) performance than that of ECE-based DEE cell, showcasing the promising application of advanced deep eutectic GE in high performance SMBs.

Electrochemical mechanical polishing (ECMP), through the introduction of electric field, promotes the chemical reaction during polishing. However, the addition of electric field will accelerate the oxidative corrosion, at this time the effective corrosion inhibitor must be added in the polishing solution. Nevertheless, most traditional corrosion inhibitors are toxic and inhibition efficiency is low. In order to meet this technical challenge, this paper investigates the effect of two green corrosion inhibitors, chitosan oligosaccharide (COS) and carboxymethylcellulose sodium (CMC-Na), on Co ECMP, and compares them with the traditional inhibitor TAZ. The results show that when COS and CMC-Na are added at the same time, the polished Co surface quality can be greatly improved, and the surface roughness decreases by 94.6 %. It indicates that adding COS and CMC-Na simultaneously can play the best corrosion inhibition effect and achieve the best surface quality. The synergistic behavior and action mechanism of COS/CMC-Na are analyzed by polishing experiments, static corrosion, electrochemical tests, XPS, and AFM. This study provides a reference for the development of green polishing solutions for Co ECMP.

Owing to the high theoretical capacity, multi-electron reactions and semimetallic characteristics, metal tellurides present promising potential for sodium-ion storage. Yet structural collapse and capacity degradation remain inevitable. In this work, a structural confinement strategy was employed to fabricate zinc-telluride/cobalt-telluride heterostructures (ZnTe/CoTe 2 @NC) that is constrained by nitrogen-doped carbon (NC) derived from a metal-organic framework (MOF) and reinforced by carbon nanotubes (CNTs), via template self-assembly followed by in-situ tellurization. The CNTs crosslink with the MOF precursor to yield a dual-restricted architecture that suppresses nanoparticles agglomeration and enhances cycling stability. In-situ and ex-situ techniques elucidate the “alloy-conversion” reaction mechanism and pseudocapacitive sodium storage behavior of the ZnTe/CoTe 2 @NC anodes. While the density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal the electronic structure modulation underlying their enhanced conductivity. These favorable electrochemical features arise from the synergistic effects of the Zn-Co heterointerface, the highly conductive carbon network, and the abundant defect sites introduced by nitrogen doping, which mitigate sluggish ion transport and structural degradation. As a result, the ZnTe/CoTe 2 @NC anode delivers a high-rate capacity of 82.1 mAh·g −1 at 20.0 A g −1 and retains 106.1 mAh·g −1 at 1.0 A g −1 after 5000 cycles. This study offers a rational confinement strategy and provides insight into designing electrochemically durable telluride heterostructure anodes.

Graphical LiNaTiTa 2 P 2 O 13 displays an open framework comprised of staggered [Ti 1/3 Ta 2/3 O 3 ] ∞ layers and PO 4 tetrahedra with a herringbone-like stacking pattern, similar to monophosphate niobium bronzes. The existence of pentagonal tunnels, hosting the Li + and Na + ions, endow LiNaTiTa 2 P 2 O 13 a moderate ion transport capability (4.67×10 −4 S/cm at 823 K). In addition, the layers constituted by corner-sharing TiO6 and TaO6 octahedra endow a possibility as being photo-catalyst. The successful substitution of Nb for Ta results in the optical absorption red-shifted towards visible range with a narrowing band gap comparable to that of TiO 2 (3.2 eV). Herein, we report a detailed structural, electric, thermal and optical analysis of a titanium and tantalum phosphate LiNaTiTa 2 P 2 O 13 . The title compound is comprised of typical ReO 3 -type layers constituted by corner-sharing TiO 6 and TaO 6 octahedra, bridged by PO 4 tetrahedra, and the structure is closely related to monophosphate niobium bronzes. The existence of pentagonal tunnels, hosting the Li + and Na + ions, endows LiNaTiTa 2 P 2 O 13 a moderate ion transportation behavior (4.67×10 −4 S/cm at 823 K). In addition, the successful substitution of Nb for Ta in LiNaTiTa 2 P 2 O 13 results in the optical absorption red-shift towards visible range with a narrowing band gap, which may provide a route of isomorphic replacement to band engineering for photo-catalysis.

Sodium (Na) metal anode is the essential component of low-cost and high-performance Na metal batteries, yet its application is hampered by the unstable anode/electrolyte interface and inevitable growth of Na dendrites. In this work, a hierarchically porous artificial surface layer with sodiophilic silver (Ag) nanoparticles decorating the bottom surface (HPFA) is reported, which can regulate the uniform deposition of Na and eliminate the local overgrowth of dendrites on the surface of Na substrate. The dependence of Na deposition behavior on the hierarchical structure of surface layers is revealed by operando optical microscopy and multiphysics simulation, indicating the multifunction of the HPFA layer in stabilizing the Na anode during the electrochemical plating/stripping process. The as-fabricated HPFA/Na anode depicts prolonged life-span and improved stability in both ether and carbonate electrolytes, while the symmetric cell shows no sign of short-circuit even after 1200 h of repeated charging/discharging at 2 mA cm −2 with a high area capacity of 4 mAh cm −2 . Besides, when the HPFA/Na anode is paired with Na 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 3 cathode and ether electrolyte, the full cell exhibits a low decay rate of ≈0.28% with a stable coulombic Efficiency value of ≈99.88% at 2 C rate.

Na-ion layered oxides have attracted considerable interest due to their structural and electrochemical similarities to Li-ion counterparts, positioning them as promising cathode materials for sustainable energy storage. However, O3-type Na-ion layered oxides experience severe structural distortions and phase transitions during electrochemical cycling, which significantly deteriorate battery performance. In this study, an ultra-stable O3-type high-entropy doping cathode material is developed, NaNi 0.3 Mn 0.5 Fe 0.05 Li 0.05 Ti 0.05 Cu 0.05 O 2 (NMFLTC), for high-performance Na-ion battery. By partially substituted Ni of NaNi 0.5 Mn 0.5 O 2 (NM) with Fe, Li, Ti, and Cu, Na + diffusion and maintained the structural integrity of NMFLTC is successfully enhanced through the in situ formation of a high-entropy rock salt phase on the surface of the cathode material. This modification not only protects the cathode from structural degradation but also effectively mitigates phase transitions during cycling, leading to favored sodiation/de-sodiation electrochemistry and enhanced structure stability. Attributed to its structural superiorities, the high-entropy doping layered oxide cathode maintains 85.9% and 73.7% capacity retention at 0.1 C and 0.3 C after 200 and 600 cycles, respectively, which marks a significant improvement over traditional undoped NM cathodes. The proposed facile synthesis strategy enables the high entropy cathode material with possibility for large scale production, holding great promises to be utilized for practicalization.

Na-ion batteries (NIBs) are promising for grid-scale energy storage applications. However, the lack of Co, Ni-free cathode materials has made them less cost-effective. In this work, Mg 2+ is successfully utilized to activate the oxygen redox reaction in earth-abundant Fe/Mn-based layered cathodes to achieve reversible hybrid anionic and cationic redox capacities. A high first charge capacity of ≈210 mAh g −1 with balanced charge–discharge efficiency is achieved without O-loss, showing a promising energy cost of $2.02 kWh −1 . Full cell against hard carbon anode without pre-sodiation shows energy density exceeding ≈280 Wh kg −1 with a decent capacity retention of 85.6% after 100 cycles. A comprehensive analysis of the charge compensation mechanisms and structural evolution is conducted. Voltage and capacity loss resulting from partially reversible Fe 3+ migration to the Na layer is confirmed, shedding light on further improvements for low-cost NIB cathodes in application scenarios.

The activity of carbonyl sulfur (COS) hydrolysis catalyst is inhibited by hydrogen chloride (HCl) and then restricts the application of blast furnace gas purification. The presence of HCl significantly reduces the COS hydrolysis conversion by destroying the Al-O bond and -OH. A novel Na and Ce supported Al-based catalyst (Na-Ce/Al 2 O 3 ) was designed to enhance the activity of COS hydrolysis in an HCl-containing atmosphere. It has been found that the addition of Ce creates oxygen vacancy, with three effects on promoting catalyst activity. The oxidation of hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S) is inhibited due to the occupation of the oxygen vacancy by HCl, reducing the sulfur species deposition. H 2 O can be adsorbed and dissociated on the oxygen vacancy to produce -OH group, improving COS hydrolysis. HCl can be preferentially anchored on the oxygen vacancy based on the adsorption energy, protecting -OH group. The improvement of HCl-resistance is essential for the Na-Ce/Al 2 O 3 hydrolysis catalyst to adapt to the complex atmosphere of blast furnace gas and increase the catalyst lifespan.

Aqueous Na-ion batteries (ANIBs) are promising candidates for grid-scale energy storage owing to their inherent safety, low cost, and rapid ion transport kinetics. While current research focuses on enhancing capacity and kinetics to overcome energy density limitations and leverage their inherent kinetic advantages under extreme conditions such as high mass loading and low temperatures, investigations remain predominantly centered on electrode materials and electrolytes, with binders being notably understudied. Here, we investigate the impact of two prevalent binders-polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF) and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)-on the electrochemical performance of nickel hexacyanoferrate (NiHCF) electrodes in ANIBs. Our results reveal that PVDF's better adhesion and electrolyte wettability optimize ion transport, significantly enhancing electrode kinetics vs. PTFE. Utilizing PVDF as the binder in a 3D-printing platform, we fabricated a freestanding electrode achieving >20 mg cm−2 active material loading, superior kinetics, and >95% capacity retention over 4000 cycles. The derived full cell reduces polarization at −20 °C, delivering higher energy density than PTFE-based full cells. This work demonstrates a multiscale regulation strategy for binder-electrode structures, offering a viable pathway toward high-performance aqueous energy storage systems.
