Hydrodeoxygenation of waste polyethylene terephthalate (PET) presents a promising avenue for aromatic production; however, achieving complete deoxygenation alongside high aromatic relative peak area abundance remains a significant challenge. Herein, we demonstrate a novel one-pot coupled pyrolysis process for waste PET and LDPE using a Mesoporous Granular Stacked Zeolite Catalyst (MGS), achieving a greater than 99% aromatic relative peak area abundance in product oil. Comprehensive experiments and characterization reveal that this outstanding catalytic performance stems from the MGS catalyst's exceptionally large specific surface area, abundant mesoporosity, and superior hydrogen transfer capability. Mechanistic investigations employing Density Functional Theory (DFT) elucidate the hydrogen transfer pathway: under the influence of oxygen and aluminium sites within the MGS framework, LDPE undergoes dehydrogenation and cyclization, while activated hydrogen species drive the catalytic pyrolysis of PET. Remarkably, the catalyst exhibits exceptional stability over multiple recycling cycles. This work establishes a promising and sustainable strategy for the chemical recycling of PET and LDPE and provides fundamental mechanistic insights for designing advanced catalysts for hydrogen transfer reactions.

Enzymatic depolymerization of plastic waste represents a sustainable route toward monomer recovery for closed-loop recycling, yet its efficiency is hindered by poor enzyme accessibility to hydrophobic polymer surfaces and product inhibition. Here, we develop aqueous micellar two-phase emulsions (AMTPEs), formed by self-assembly of nonionic surfactants and polysaccharides, as an integrated catalytic and separation platform for enhanced enzymatic degradation of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET). These AMTPEs exhibit excellent stability and efficient co-encapsulation of PET substrates and hydrolases, via a synergistic “wetting-encapsulation” mechanism. The enzyme's affinity for the substrate was greatly increased, likely due to the dynamic microenvironment in the system. Meanwhile, the continuous polysaccharide phase enables simultaneous product removal to overcome the inhibition of products. The optimized Tween 80/Dex AMTPE system exhibits broad applicability across diverse PET hydrolases, boosting MHET production by 7.7-fold (FsC), 20.8-fold (Fast-PETase), and 15.0-fold (LCC) increases over buffer controls within 24 hours. Moreover, after four catalytic cycles that including the product recovery process, system still retained 92.6% of initial MHET production. This work establishes AMTPEs as an integrated and recyclable platform, thereby addressing the effectively addressing the inherent limitations of traditional PET biodegradation.

Quaternary ammonium cationic surfactants accelerate the hydrolysis of PET under mild conditions. • Surfactant-accelerated alkaline hydrolysis of waste PET substantially reduces NREU and GWP. • The recovered high-purity TPA could be directly reutilized for the synthesis of MIL-53Fe. • The PET-derived MIL-53Fe/O 3 system exhibits markedly enhanced catalytic ozonation performance. The rapid accumulation of plastic waste has become a major environmental challenge, driving growing interest in upcycling strategies that transform waste polymers into high-value products within a circular economy framework. Among waste plastics, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is one of the most abundant and widely discarded materials, yet its sustainable valorization remains constrained by the energy-intensive and chemically demanding nature of conventional recycling processes. In this study, a surfactant-accelerated alkaline hydrolysis strategy using dodecyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride (DDBAC, known as surfactant-1227) is developed to enable efficient PET depolymerization under mild conditions, achieving a terephthalic acid (TPA) yield of 99.6% with a purity of 99%. The recovered TPA is directly reutilized as an organic linker for the synthesis of MIL-53Fe via a solvothermal process, yielding an ozonation catalyst denoted as TS-MIL-53Fe. The TS-MIL-53Fe/O 3 system exhibits markedly enhanced catalytic ozonation performance toward the degradation of acid orange 7 (AO-7), with an observed pseudo-first-order rate constant ( k obs ) of 1.11 min −1 , 1.8 times higher than that of the conventional MIL-53Fe/O 3 system. Mechanistic investigations indicate that improved electron transfer characteristics of TS-MIL-53Fe promote ozone activation at Fe sites, leading to significantly increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, particularly singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ). The catalyst also demonstrates robust stability and broad applicability for the removal of diverse organic contaminants and the treatment of complex industrial wastewater. This work presents a low-carbon and resource-efficient approach for converting waste PET into high-performance water treatment catalysts, simultaneously contributing to plastic waste valorization and advanced wastewater remediation. Poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) accounts for 8 % of global plastic production and 12 % of solid waste, driving extensive research into innovative recycling strategies. Nonetheless, performance degradation of mechanical recycling and high cost of chemical routes, highlighting the urgent need for cost-effective PET recycling solutions. This study presents a “one-pot” upcycling approach based on hydroxy transesterification, which directly converts PET waste into high-performance copolyesters. A key advantage of this method is the elimination of solvents and the avoidance of complete depolymerization using excess ethylene glycol or methanol. Thermal and mechanical analyses reveal that upcycled poly(ethylene- co -1,4 cyclohexanedimethanol terephthalate) (PETG) exhibits properties comparable to commercial PETG. Furthermore, we successfully synthesized a series of heat-resistance copolyesters using various PET waste sources, rigid diols with varying reactivity (2,2,4,4-tetramethyl-1,3-cyclobutanediol, spiroglycol, and isosorbide)—demonstrating the broad applicability of this strategy. Techno-economic analysis (TEA) and life cycle assessment (LCA) demonstrate a 27.2 % reduction in production costs, along with 68 % and 84 % reductions in global warming potential and fossil fuel depletion, respectively. Overall, this platform provides a sustainable and cost-effective pathway for the upcycling of PET waste.

Polyethylene terephthalate is a major source of plastic pollution, posing significant environmental risks and requiring effective degradation methods. In the present work, the CuWO 4-x /Cobalt Phthalocyanine (CoPc) step-scheme (S-scheme) heterojunction was used as a photothermal-assisted photocatalyst to facilitate the degradation of polyethylene terephthalate via peroxymonosulfate activation in a cooperative photocatalytic system. The CuWO 4-x /CoPc sample exhibited optimal polyethylene terephthalate removal efficiency under the illumination conditions, reaching 83 % after the addition of 3 mM peroxymonosulfate. The influence of peroxymonosulfate dosage, aquatic environment, pH, and coexisting anions on polyethylene terephthalate degradation was thoroughly investigated. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and radical quenching experiment findings implied that the CuWO 4-x /CoPc composite followed the S-scheme heterojunction charge transfer process. Owing to the formation of the S-scheme heterojunction, the electron and hole transport and separation efficiency in the CuWO 4-x /CoPc photocatalyst was significantly enhanced. Infrared thermography images further revealed that the temperature rise of the solution during the catalytic process resulted from the photothermal property of CoPc, thus enhancing the degradation efficiency of polyethylene terephthalate plastics. Additionally, CuWO 4-x /CoPc demonstrated remarkable reusability and consistency in cycling experiments. This research presents an effective strategy by developing a photothermal-assisted S-scheme heterojunction system for the degradation of waste microplastics in aqueous environments.

Overcoming the enthalpy–entropy compensation effect remains a formidable challenge in chemical upcycling of polyesters. Empirical catalyst designs typically maximize Lewis acidity, lowering activation enthalpy (Δ H ‡) for ester activation but triggering an entropic penalty (Δ S ‡) that retards kinetics. Here, we establish a “moderate acidity” principle that balances these competing thermodynamic demands. Eyring analysis shows that optimal 5% manganese (Mn) doping enables a substantial reduction in Δ H ‡ while mitigating the entropic penalty. Mn-doped zinc oxide (ZnO) catalysts prepared via microfluidic synthesis achieve optimal performance at 5% Mn doping, delivering 100% PET conversion, 94.7% BHET yield, and a space–time yield of 250 g monomer g cat −1 h −1 , twice that of pristine ZnO. Life-cycle and techno-economic assessments demonstrate 3.7-fold lower greenhouse gas emissions and 2.4-fold cost reduction relative to conventional routes. Complete atomic utilization is achieved by valorizing glycolysis mother liquor into high-performance waterborne polyurethanes, establishing a zero-waste circular economy for plastics.

Rationale and Objective This study utilized micro-positron emission tomography/computed tomography (micro-PET/CT) to track the longitudinal and dynamic progression of cardiac autonomic nerve injury in diabetic rats. Our objective was to map the precise timeline of neural damage relative to disease stages, defining a sensitive imaging window for the early diagnosis of diabetic cardiac autonomic neuropathy (DCAN). Materials and Methods Following streptozotocin induction of type 2 diabetes, rats underwent biweekly micro-PET/CT imaging for up to 17 weeks. Sympathetic and parasympathetic innervations were thoroughly evaluated using [ 11 C]C-MDA and [ 11 C]C-donepezil ([ 11 C]C-DNP), respectively. [ 11 C]C-triphenylmethylphosphonium ([ 11 C]C-TPMP) provided a perfusion baseline to characterize neuro-perfusion mismatches. Quantitative tracer uptake was correlated with histopathological remodeling and the myocardial expression of neurotrophic factors (NGF, GAP-43, CNTF) quantified via quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). Results Longitudinal PET/CT imaging unveiled a distinct chronological cascade of cardiac deterioration. Parasympathetic denervation ([ 11 C]C-DNP depletion) manifested first at week 6, followed by sympathetic denervation ([ 11 C]C-MDA deficit) at week 8. Conversely, myocardial perfusion deficits ([ 11 C]C-TPMP) remained absent until week 16, escalating to severe metabolic dysfunction by week 17. Histopathology confirmed progressive myocardial inflammation, while RT-qPCR indicated a late-stage, yet insufficient, compensatory upregulation of neurotrophic factors. Conclusion This multi-tracer longitudinal investigation establishes that parasympathetic denervation precedes sympathetic impairment during DCAN development, with both deficits predating microvascular and metabolic crises. These insights offer a critical, noninvasive diagnostic window for early DCAN detection and clinical monitoring.

The increasing accumulation of waste plastics has a range of negative impacts on the land and marine environments. Solar-driven methods of converting waste into useful chemicals and green energy H 2 are gaining attention due to their efficiency, stability and low cost. Here, flexible nickel phosphide/titanium dioxide/carbon nanofiber (Ni 2 P/TiO 2 /C NFs) film photocatalyst was prepared by electrospinning, heat treatment, hydrothermal method, and phosphate treatment. The obtained Ni 2 P/TiO 2 /C NFs presented a continuous homogeneous fibrous shape with TiO 2 NPs incorporation into the carbon NFs and Ni 2 P NPs coating on the surface of the NFs. The film exhibited promising flexibility and excellent light absorption performance. As a result, the Ni 2 P/TiO 2 /C NFs film was utilized to reform polyethylene terephthalate (PET) into a variety of organic products and clean energy H 2 under alkaline aqueous conditions. In addition, the flexible Ni 2 P/TiO 2 /C NFs film could be easily separated from the solution for recycling, and the stable hydrogen production performance was maintained after multiple cycles. This work applies an inexpensive and recyclable composite photocatalyst to the recycling of waste polyester, which is a crucial step towards the practical application of recyclable photocatalysts in resource recovery.

PET-based nitrogen and phosphorus-doped Carbon Dots (NP-CDs) was prepared by solvothermal method with PET waste as raw materials. In terms of structure, NP-CDs were spherical structures with an average particle size of 2.8 nm, and its surface contains amino groups. The as-prepared NP-CDs exhibit excitation-independent emission properties from 300 nm to 430 nm, and the optimal excitation and emission wavelength was 340 nm and 460 nm. In terms of application, the as-prepared NP-CDs could be used to a pH sensor in the range of 2.3–12.3. When NP-CDs were dispersed in polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) matrix, excellent light blocking films(LBFs) for UV and blue light were obtained. When the ratio of NP-CDs is 14 %, it still does not affect the line of sight, and the barrier rate to UV(380 nm) and blue(430 nm) light is as high as 90% and 80 %. In addition, the WLED device with a colour coordinate of (0.29,0.32) and a colour temperature of 8022 K can be obtained with the combination of NP-CDs dispersed in PVA matrix and 395 nm LED chips.

Background: The cell adhesion molecule (CAM) N-cadherin has become an important target for tumor therapy. The N-cadherin antagonist, ADH-1, exerts significant antitumor activity against N-cadherin-expressing cancers. Methods: In this study, [18F]AlF-NOTA-ADH-1 was radiosynthesized. An in vitro cell binding test was performed, and the biodistribution and micro-PET imaging of the probe targeting N-cadherin were also studied in vivo. Results: Radiolabeling of ADH-1 with [18F]AlF achieved a yield of up to 30% (not decay-corrected) with a radiochemical purity of >97%. The cell uptake study showed that Cy3-ADH-1 binds to SW480 cells but weakly binds to BXPC3 cells in the same concentration range. The biodistribution results demonstrated that [18F]AlF-NOTA-ADH-1 had a good tumor/muscle ratio (8.70±2.68) in patient-derived xenograft (PDX) tumor xenografts but a lower tumor/muscle ratio (1.91±0.69) in SW480 tumor xenografts and lowest tumor/muscle ratio (0.96±0.32) in BXPC3 tumor xenografts at 1 h post-injection (p.i.) These findings were in accordance with the immunohistochemistry results. The micro PET imaging results revealed good [18F]AlF-NOTA-ADH-1 tumor uptake in pancreatic cancer PDX xenografts with strong positive N-calcium expression, while lower tumor uptake in SW480 xenografts with positive expression of N-cadherin, and significantly lower tumor uptake in BXPC3 xenografts with low expression of N-cadherin, which was consistent with the biodistribution and immunohistochemistry results. The N-cadherin-specific binding of [18F]AlF-NOTA-ADH-1 was further verified by a blocking experiment involving coinjection of a non radiolabeled ADH-1 peptide, resulting in a significant reduction in tumor uptake in PDX xenografts and SW480 tumor. Conclusion: [18F]AlF-NOTA-ADH-1 was successfully radiosynthesized, and Cy3-ADH-1 showed favorable N-cadherin-specific targeting ability by in vitro data. The biodistribution and microPET imaging of the probe further showed that [18F]AlF-NOTA-ADH-1 could discern different expressions of N-cadherin in tumors. Collectively, the findings demonstrated the potential of [18F]AlF-NOTA-ADH-1 as a PET imaging probe for non-invasive evaluation of the N-cadherin expression in tumors.

Converting polyethylene terephthalate (PET) wastes to its monomer and valuable chemicals via eco-friendly chemical method is still a challenge task. Previously, phase transfer catalysts used for alkaline hydrolysis were soluble in reaction media and hardly separated after reaction. Here, we reported several pH-responsive catalysts combined alkyl quaternary ammonium units with heteropolyacid anion for achieving stepwise product/catalyst separation and catalyst recycling. The properties of homogeneous/heterogeneous transfer behavior allow catalyst to be easily separated from reaction media by adjusting of pH value. Among them, [C 16 H 33 N(CH 3 ) 3 ] 3 PW 12 O 40 (abbreviated as [CTA] 3 PW) exhibits the highest activity and the most suitable pH responsive values. Such a pH triggered switchable catalytic system not only shows good performance for depolymerization of pure PET, but also some real PET wastes such as coloured trays and PE/PET complex films could be completely degraded into terephthalic acid. Additionally, the reaction kinetics and activation energy of PET alkaline hydrolysis also studied with and without pH-responsive [CTA] 3 PW.

Indeed, it is yet to be achieved that finds a viable solution to the challenge of ever-growing and severe oil wastewater issues to meet easy operation and low cost. Herein, a facile strategy was proposed to fabricate asymmetric membranes via immobilizing poly (itaconic anhydride) (PITA) super-hydrophilic polymeric nanoparticles onto the surface of polyethylene glycol terephthalate (PET) nonwoven fabrics (PET- g -ITA) by surface precipitation photo-grafting (S2P) polymerization under ultraviolet (UV) light. The PET -g- ITA membrane displayed in an asymmetry mode mainly attributed to the UV shield feature of PET . Subsequently, the asymmetric PET -g- ITA membrane was hydrolyzed in an alkaline solution to enable the UV-illuminated side with superior hydrophilicity (WCA∼0°) and underwater superoleophobicity (UOCA∼153°). It exhibited outstanding performance in the selective separation of water and light/heavy oil. In water removal mode, the water/n-hexane mixture exhibited notably high permeation flux (94,562 ± 4948 L m -2 h -1 ) and high separation efficiency (99.8 %) for water. Meanwhile, the water/dichloromethane mixture also showed remarkably high permeation flux (76,238 ± 8949 L m -2 h -1 ) and separation efficiency (94.5 %) for dichloromethane in oil removal mode. More interestingly, these membranes could almost restore their oil/water performance to that of the primary membrane after cleaning. All separation processes are handled by energy-efficient gravity-driven separation methods, providing a competitive route for on-demand water and light/heavy oil separation.
