Luminescent metal halides have garnered significant attention for next-generation optoelectronic applications, particularly in information encryption, due to their excellent optical properties and ease of solution-based processing. In this study, we present Sb-doped Cs3MnCl5 nanocrystals (NCs) as a highly promising candidate for advanced information security applications. For the first time, we successfully synthesized these NCs with a high photoluminescence quantum yield (∼80%) using a hot-injection method. By doping with Sb3+ ions, we expanded the emission spectrum across the visible range─from green to red light, including yellow-green, orange, and orange-red─enabling unprecedented spectral modulation in manganese-based metal halide perovskites. Through spectral analysis and density functional theory (DFT) computations, it is found that the 525 nm emission arises from the d–d transition of Mn2+ ions in a tetrahedral coordination environment, while the 660 nm emission is attributed to self-trapped excitons from Sb3+ ions, facilitated by energy transfer from Mn–Mn d–d transitions. This mechanism differs from previously reported decoupled multiexcitonic luminescence in Sb3+ doped perovskite materials, enabling more efficient tuning of the relative intensity between the dual emissions through variation in dopant concentrations and excitation wavelengths. Furthermore, Sb3+ doping enables excitation wavelength-dependent emissions, allowing for the generation of multiple codons with distinct variations at different concentrations. This tunable emission capability proves highly effective for encrypting multilevel optical codes, offering significant advantages over conventional anticounterfeiting materials. Our findings provide valuable insights for designing low-toxicity, high-efficiency perovskites with tunable emission properties for practical information security applications.

Alloy materials such as Si and Ge are attractive as high-capacity anodes for rechargeable batteries, but such anodes undergo severe capacity degradation during discharge–charge processes. Compared to the over-emphasized efforts on the electrode structure design to mitigate the volume changes, understanding and engineering of the solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI) are significantly lacking. This work demonstrates that modifying the surface of alloy-based anode materials by building an ultraconformal layer of Sb can significantly enhance their structural and interfacial stability during cycling. Combined experimental and theoretical studies consistently reveal that the ultraconformal Sb layer is dynamically converted to Li 3 Sb during cycling, which can selectively adsorb and catalytically decompose electrolyte additives to form a robust, thin, and dense LiF-dominated SEI, and simultaneously restrain the decomposition of electrolyte solvents. Hence, the Sb-coated porous Ge electrode delivers much higher initial Coulombic efficiency of 85% and higher reversible capacity of 1046 mAh g −1 after 200 cycles at 500 mA g −1 , compared to only 72% and 170 mAh g −1 for bare porous Ge. The present finding has indicated that tailoring surface structures of electrode materials is an appealing approach to construct a robust SEI and achieve long-term cycling stability for alloy-based anode materials.

The practical application of conventional Ti/SnO 2 -Sb electrodes is hindered by their low oxygen evolution potential (OEP) and rapid deactivation. Rare earth doping has been proposed to enhance electrode stability and catalytic activity; however, the comparative effects of different rare earth elements (e.g., La vs. Eu) on both structural and electrochemical properties remain unclear. In this paper, the fabrication of lanthanum- and europium-doped Ti/SnO 2 -Sb (TSS) electrodes and the electrochemical degradation of methylene blue (MB) were investigated. Although both lanthanum (La) and europium (Eu) are rare earth elements with many similarities, lanthanum (La)-modified electrode exhibits distinct performance characteristics. It is indicated that the Ti/SnO 2 -Sb-La (TSSL) electrode has a comparatively better crystal phase, enhanced surface hydrophobicity, and better electrochemical performance. The TSSL electrode exhibits a higher OEP of 1.84 V than other electrodes, showing a 0.15 V increase when compared with the undoped electrode. The peak oxidation current reaches 0.82 mA/cm 2 , which provides more active sites for the catalytic reaction. It is found that the La-doped electrode has better performance in wastewater treatment; the TSSL electrode shows a 45% increase in degradation efficiency when compared with the Ti/SnO 2 -Sb-Eu (TSSE) electrode for treatment of 50 ppm MB in 25 min. Moreover, the effects of current density and the initial concentration of MB were also investigated. Considering the degradation rate and energy consumption, the optimum current density for wastewater treatment is 20 mA/cm 2 . The outcome indicated that the degradation of MB was up to 98.5% in 25 min.

Sodium ion batteries are a potential alternative to lithium ion batteries due to the low cost and natural abundance of sodium. In this study, we demonstrate the synthesis of a ternary Sb/P–C composite by using facile discharge plasma-assisted milling (P-milling) to combine Sb and high theoretical specific capacity red phosphorus (RP). The high hardness Sb particles facilitated the refinement of the P particles and exfoliated expanded graphite during the P-milling process, while the rapid heating by plasma promoted the refinement of Sb and P particles. Ultimately, the crystalline Sb nanograins were well-dispersed in the amorphous P and C matrix, and the P and C components were connected by the P–C bonds. This unique structure ensures a strong electrode structural integrity and ultra-fast electron transport during cycling. As a result, the Sb/P–C composite delivered a high average initial coulombic efficiency of 73.5%, and a reversible capacity of 596 mA h g−1 after 300 cycles at 1.0 A g−1, a very impressive performance among the reported P-based materials. The present approach provides a new strategy for the preparation of anode materials of high capacity and long cycle life for sodium-ion batteries and other energy storage systems.

Antimony (Sb) is an attractive anode material for lithium-ion batteries with high theoretical capacity. However, its practical application is greatly hindered by the rapid capacity fading due to the large volume expansion during lithiation. Tuning the morphology of active materials at the nanoscale or designing reasonable components is essential to address this issue. Employing an antimony sulfide nanorod as semi-sacrificial template, here, we successfully synthesize one-dimensional MoS 2 sheets-decorated Sb@Sb 2 S 3 @C(MoS 2 -Sb@Sb 2 S 3 @C) nano-structure via facile thermal carbonization of Mo-polypyrrole complex coating film. During annealing, metallic Sb from the partial reduction of Sb 2 S 3 nanorods is embedded into amorphous carbon nanotubes that are derived from polypyrrole and simultaneously MoS 2 nanosheets forms on the surface of Sb-Sb 2 S 3 -C nanostructures. This unique hierarchical tubular composite not only can serve as robust skeleton frameworks for accommodating volume changes of metallic Sb and Sb 2 S 3 during cell cycling, but also are characterized by high electronic conductivity (because of the amorphous carbon nanotubes and metallic Sb) and abundant active sites, both of which are beneficial for the improvement of Li-ion storage properties. As expected, the MoS 2 -Sb@Sb 2 S 3 @C composite exhibit a high specific capacity (1596 mAh g −1 at 0.1 A g −1 ), high rate capability (481 mAh g −1 at 5 A g −1 and 355 mAh g −1 at 8 A g −1 ), and stable cycling performance (760 mAh g −1 maintained after 100 cycles at 1 A g −1 ). Our work potentially sheds some light on future development of alloy-type anodes for battery applications.

The increasing release of antimony (Sb) into water environments due to anthropogenic activities poses significant ecological risks. This study developed a novel hybrid material, zeolitic imidazolate framework-8-iron nanoparticles (ZIF-8-Fe NPs), which demonstrates a synergistic adsorption-oxidation mechanism for efficient removal of Sb(III) from aqueous solutions. Major findings reveal that at an initial Sb(III) concentration of 1 mg L-1, ZIF-8-Fe NPs achieved a 73.3% removal efficiency within three hours through the dual processes of direct adsorption and oxidation of Sb(III) to Sb(V). Scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectrometry (SEM-EDS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) revealed that the removal mechanism involved both direct adsorption of Sb(III) by ZIF-8-Fe NPs and oxidation of Sb(III) to Sb(V), with two distinct morphologies of Sb adsorbed on the surface. The formation of covalent bonds (Zn-OH-Sb and Fe-O-Sb) was identified as the key factor in removing both Sb(III) and Sb(V) from aqueous solutions. The adsorption process conformed to the Langmuir adsorption isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetics, with correlation coefficients (R²) of 0.959 and 0.999, respectively. The proposed mechanism suggests that the formation of Zn-OH-Sb and Fe-O-Sb covalent bonds plays a crucial role in Sb(III) removal. Significantly, ZIF-8-Fe NPs achieved removal efficiencies of 91.5% and 94.8% for Sb(III) at environmentally relevant concentrations of 100 µg L-1 and 20 µg L-1, in actual mining wastewater, demonstrating its practical applicability. This study establishes that ZIF-8-Fe NPs constitute an effective nanomaterial with significant potential for Sb(III) remediation in wastewater.

Antimony (Sb) and its oxides, as promising electrode materials, have attracted much attention because of their low cost, environmental friendliness, and high theoretical capacity. Herein, boron doped flower-cluster-like Sb/SbO2@reduced graphene oxide (rGO) composites are synthesized for use as sodium-ion battery anode materials using a solvothermal strategy. The contents of Sb and antimony oxide (SbO2) are controlled by adding different contents of NaBH4. Meanwhile, the introduction of NaBH4 successfully realizes boron doping and enlarges the lattice spacing of the SbO2, improving its conductivity and Na+ transport. As a result, optimal Sb/SbO2@rGO-10 composites display a desirable capacity of 346 mAh g−1 at 50 mA g−1 after 100 cycles with a capacity retention of 106%. Even at high current densities, a capacity of 236 mAh g−1 is achieved, demonstrating a satisfactory rate capacity. Moreover, the Sb/SbO2@rGO-10 electrode shows satisfactory Na storage performance at low temperatures. In addition, sodium-ion full cells are assembled using an Sb/SbO2@rGO-10 anode and a Na3V2(PO4)2O2F cathode, with which a satisfactory electrochemical performance of 102 mAh g−1 after 50 cycles at 50 mA g−1 is achieved, showing their high practical potential.

Purpose Arsenic (As) and antimony (Sb) are toxic elements that usually co-occur in paddy soils due to their chemical similarity. Those elements are redox-sensitive and shift their species across the soil–water interface (SWI) where redox potentials change in every millimeter. In the real world, the distribution and speciation of As and Sb in soils are often influenced by external redox disturbance, but their temporospatial response remains poorly understood. This study aimed to address this gap by introducing external disturbance by adding nitrate into the overlying water. Methods Daily changes in the profile of As, Sb, iron (Fe), and sulfur (S) were measured using ICP-MS and the In-situ Porewater Iterative (IPI) sampler array. Results The results revealed a rapid formation of a sink for As and Fe at the oxic-anoxic transition zone within one day, persisting for at least 6 days and extending to ~ 30 mm below the SWI. Moreover, Sb was re-mobilized in the same area as the As and Fe sink, but the re-mobilized Sb zone was weaker, lasting only 4 days and extending to ~ 20 mm below the SWI. The presence of aqueous ferrous Fe below the transition zone facilitated the formation of Fe and As sink, while the presence of aqueous sulfide below the transition zone hindered the development of the Sb source. Conclusion These findings highlight the importance of carefully evaluating the impact of nitrate-based fertilizers or stabilization reagents when applied in As and Sb contaminated soils.

Potassium- and sodium-ion batteries (PIBs and SIBs) have great potential as the next-generation energy application owing to the natural abundance of K and Na. Antimony (Sb) is a suitable alloying-type anode for PIBs and SIBs due to its high theoretical capacity and proper operation voltage; yet, the severe volume variation remains a challenge. Herein, a preparation of N-doped carbon-wrapped Sb nanoparticles (L-Sb/NC) using pulsed laser ablation and polydopamine coating techniques, is reported. As the anode for PIB and SIB, the L-Sb/NC delivers superior rate capabilities and excellent cycle stabilities (442.2 and 390.5 mA h g −1 after 250 cycles with the capacity decay of 0.037% and 0.038% per cycle) at the current densities of 0.5 and 1.0 A g −1 , respectively. Operando X-ray diffraction reveals the facilitated and stable potassiation and sodiation mechanisms of L-Sb/NC enabled by its optimal core–shell structure. Furthermore, the SIB full cell fabricated with L-Sb/NC and Na 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 2 F 3 shows outstanding electrochemical performances, demonstrating its practical energy storage application.

Antimony (Sb) is a potential candidate anode for potassium-ion batteries (PIBs) owing to its high theoretical capacity. However; in the process of potassium alloying reaction; the huge volume expansion (about 407%) leads to pulverization of active substance as well as loss of electrical contact resulting in rapidly declining capacity. Herein; uniformly dispersed Sb-Nanodot in carbon frameworks (Sb-ND@C) were constructed by in situ confined polymerization of ionic liquids. Attributed to the uniformly dispersed Sb-ND and confinement effect of carbon frameworks; as anode for PIBs; Sb-ND@C delivered a superior rate capability (320.1 mA h g−1at 5 A g−1) and an outstanding cycling stability (486 mA h g−1after 1000 cycles; achieving 89.8% capacity retention). This work offers a facile route to prepare highly dispersed metal-Nanodot via the in situ polymerization of ionic liquid for high-performance metal-ion batteriesKeywords:Sb;ionic liquids;nanodot;anode;potassium-ion batteries

A non-aqueous phase (Sb/Fe/NMP) desulfurization system for the removal of hydrogen sulfide from natural gas was constructed by introducing SbCl 3 and FeCl 3 in a specific ratio into N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP). The desulfurizing agent and its sulfur product were characterized, and the absorption pattern of H 2 S by the system was investigated by static desulfurization experiments. The results indicate that the desulfurizer’s sulfur capacity can reach 16 g/L at room temperature and pressure, and that adding the optimum amount of water and appropriate temperature increase can assist to increase desulfurization efficiency. The system maintained a sulfur capacity level of more than 90% of the initial sulfur capacity after five consecutive desulfurization-regeneration cycles. XRD and XPS spectrogram revealed that the regenerated solid product was high purity sulfur. Sb 3+ is a key component to ensure the effective absorption of H 2 S. The presence of a moderate amount of Fe 3+ can oxidize and absorb small amounts of H 2 S and promote the oxidative regeneration of the system. In addition, we combined the obtained experimental data with density flooding theory (DFT) theoretical calculations to show that the effective coordination of Sb(III) with HS − in the NMP environment is the main reason for the effective absorption of H 2 S by the desulfurizer. NMP is not involved in the coordination absorption process of hydrogen sulfide.

Liquid metal battery (LMB) has recently captured intensive attention for large-scale energy storage, originating from its attractive cost-efficiency, robust cyclability, and ultralong service lifetime. Nevertheless, realizing high energy density remains a great challenge. Herein, a novel dual-active Sb-Zn electrode is elaborately designed. A unique lithiation mechanism is demonstrated for the first time in LMB field. A ternary intermetallic compound LiZnSb is preferentially formed with a high discharge plateau at ca. 1.1 V, which is followed by a conversion reaction to Li 3 Sb and Zn at around 0.8 V and then a consecutive dissolution reaction of lithium in molten Zn, significantly ameliorating the voltage and capacity properties. Meanwhile, part Zn melts regenerate and disperse among discharge product layer, constructing rapid electron/lithium percolating networks in-situ , which accelerates the electrode reaction kinetics. As a result, the Li||Sb-Zn battery exhibits high average discharge voltage of 0.763 V at 100 mA cm −2 and superior rate performance (0.596 V at 1000 mA cm −2 ). Outstanding energy and power densities (290.6 Wh kg −1 and 239.66 W kg −1 ) are achieved, remarkably surpassing most reported LMBs and even comparable to Na-S battery. This work showcases an innovative electrochemistry system, opening a new avenue for high-performance LMBs.
