The hierarchical porous architecture of sugarcane peel was successfully replicated using a biological template method. The samples were fabricated via a sol-gel process combined with ambient pressure drying, and the Si-Zr-Al-Y system integrated with the biomass template was pyrolyzed at temperatures ranging from 700 °C to 1300 °C to obtain Si-Zr-Al-Y oxide ceramic composites. The evolution of the microstructure and phase composition of the Si-Zr-Al-Y system during pyrolysis was systematically investigated. The incorporation of biomass templates facilitated the retention of a relatively fine mesoporous structure (6.88 nm) and low thermal conductivity (0.035 W·m⁻¹·K⁻¹) up to 1100 °C, although pore coarsening and specific surface area reduction became evident at higher temperatures (1300 °C). Furthermore, the influence of processing temperature on specific surface area, pore size, and pore structure was examined in detail. This study not only establishes a foundation for future research but also provides insights into sustainable industrial waste management and contributes to global sustainable development strategies.

The practical deployment of magnesium-based alloys, despite their attractive hydrogen-storage capacity and economical advantage, faces critical barriers in the form of high dehydrogenation temperatures and inadequate sorption kinetics. To overcome these barriers, a two-dimensional layered La x @Ti 3 C 2 -derived catalyst was therefore developed, which exhibits high catalytic activity toward the Mg-4Ni-2Y alloy. The Mg-4Ni-2Y + 10 wt % La 0.2 @Ti 3 C 2 composite not only lowered the onset absorption/desorption temperatures to 23.3 ° C and 265.5 ° C but also enabled the composite to achieve superior sorption kinetics, absorbing 4.80 wt % H 2 in 1 min at 150 ° C and releasing 5.16 wt % H 2 in 4 min at 350 ° C. Furthermore, the apparent activation energy (E a ) was substantially reduced to 85.22 ± 2.38 kJ/mol for the composite, thereby decreasing the dehydrogenation temperature and accelerating the kinetics. Systematic analysis suggests that the catalytic enhancement is primarily associated with highly dispersed Ti 0 species, which are proposed to act as the primary active sites for hydrogen dissociation and recombination. La decoration is suggested to serve as an electronic promoter, modulating the electronic structure of Ti sites and stabilizing the interfacial environment. This synergistic Ti-La interaction facilitates hydrogen activation and interfacial transfer without altering the intrinsic Mg/MgH 2 thermodynamics, thereby significantly accelerating hydrogen sorption kinetics.

A series of BaCeO 3 modified with different rare earth elements (La, Y, Pr) were synthesized by co-precipitation and calcination and the effect of rare earth elements for catalytic ammonia synthesis under mild conditions was studied. The ammonia synthesis performance tests show that 2.5% Ru/BaCe 0.9 La 0.1 O 3– δ catalyst (All the percentages of Ru in this article are in mass fraction) exhibits the highest ammonia synthesis rate (34 mmol/(g·h)) at 3 MPa, 450 °C, and no sign of deactivation after 100 h of reaction. H 2 -TPR and XPS analyses indicate that the introduction of La increases the amount of oxygen vacancies of the catalyst, which is beneficial to increasing the electron density of Ru surface. HRTEM analysis shows that the Ru particle size is reduced greatly after La is introduced, which facilitates the catalyst generating more B 5 -type sites (active sites of Ru species for N N dissociation). CO 2 -TPD analysis indicates that BaCe 0.9 La 0.1 O 3– δ has stronger basicity , which promotes electrons transfer from support to Ru. This work provides an effective method for design and synthesis of Ru-based multi-element composite perovskite oxide catalysts.

Morphological tuning or additional cation doping is one of the potential and simple methods to enhance the photocatalytic properties of ceria, in which rare-earth element doped ceria nanorods (CeO2-RE NRs) are expected to be a promising photocatalyst with high activity. But the optimal doping conditions, including the variety and concentration of RE elements are ambiguous, and the contribution of doped RE ions to the enhancement of photocatalytic activity needs to be further studied. In this work, we doped La, Y and Sm with a wide range of 0%–30% into CeO2 NRs, and investigated the phase, morphology, band gap, oxygen vacancy concentration, PL spectra and photocatalytic activity variation under different doping conditions. All synthesized CeO2-RE NRs possessed a good nanorod morphology except the 15 and 30% Y-doped samples. The energy band gaps of the synthesized samples changed slightly; the 10% CeO2-RE NRs with the narrowest band gaps possessed the higher photocatalytic performance. The most outstanding photocatalyst was found to be the 10% Y-doped CeO2 NRs with a methylene blue photodegradation ratio of 85.59% and rate constant of 0.0134 min−1, which is particularly associated with a significant higher oxygen vacancy concentration and obviously lower recombination rate of photogenerated e−/h+ pairs. The doped RE ions and the promotion of oxygen vacancy generation impede the recombination of photogenerated carriers, which is proposed as the main reason to enhance the photocatalytic property of CeO2.

The abundant reserves of sodium resources and its low price make the desire to build energy storage systems on room-temperature rechargeable sodium batteries. The current challenge exists in exploring high-performance key materials, especially cathode materials. Vanadium-based phosphates have attracted extensive attention as a class of promising cathode materials for sodium batteries due to their stable structure, large capacity, and high voltage advantages. In this paper, sodium vanadium oxyfluorophosphate, Na3V2(PO4)2F3–2yO2y (0 ≤ y < 1), is exploited to improve its electrochemical performance through oxygen tuning. The effect of oxygen amount on the structure, morphology, and performance is comprehensively and comparatively investigated. It is found that the optimal electrochemical performance is achieved in Na3V2(PO4)2F2O when y = 0.5. Its specific discharge capacity at 0.1, 0.5, 1, 8, and 20 C is 125, 111, 101, 71, and 58 mA h g–1, respectively. The superior rate performance and good cyclability are ascribed to the low impurity, mixed V3+/V4+ valence state, small particle size, suitable residual carbon coating, low charge transfer resistance, fast Na+ diffusion, and particularly the regulation of charge/discharge potentials as well as polarizations due to proper oxygen tuning.

Ruddlesden–Popper (RP)-structured materials based on transition metals with a variable valence, such as Fe, Mn, Ni, and so on, have been well documented for their potential of being used as electrodes in solid-oxide fuel cells. However, RP materials with pure or dominant ionic conduction are rare. Here, a series of Zr-based RP materials Sr3Zr2–xMxO7–0.5x (M = Ga, Y, In) with electrical conductivity as high as 3.25 × 10–3 S cm–1 at 900 °C in air was reported, which represents the highest conductivity for the Zr-based RP materials and is comparable to that of the recently reported In-based RP oxide-ion conductors, such as NdBaInO4-based and La2BaIn2O7-based materials. Under low oxygen partial pressure (pO2), the doped samples show pure ionic conducting behaviors without n-type electronic conductivity. The defect formation energies, local structure around the oxygen vacancies, and oxide-ion-conducting mechanism of the acceptor-doped Sr3Zr2O7-based materials were studied for the first time. The results revealed a two-dimensional oxide ion migration characteristic within the perovskite slabs. This work therefore provides a good reference for developing new oxide-ion conductors in the Zr-based RP-structured materials.

Y Zeolite plays an irreplaceable role in many important applications due to its unique physicochemical properties, which has attracted extensive attention from researchers. Response surface methodology (RSM) was used to optimize the process parameters for the hydrothermal synthesis of Y zeolite using kaolin activated by microwave heating. The best relative crystallinity was 108.17% could be achieved at the condition: the aging temperature of guiding agent was 65 ℃, the crystallization temperature was 100 ℃, the crystallization time was 24 h. In addition, the aging temperature of guiding agent was the most important influence factor. Under the optimal condition, the SiO 2 /Al 2 O 3 ratio of synthesized Y zeolite was 4.54, 90% of the particle size was less than 60 μm, and the specific surface area of Y zeolite was 479 m 2 /g. The successful preparation of Y zeolite with high crystallinity is expected to provide reference for the application of wastewater treatment, CO 2 sequestration and fluid catalytic cracking for petroleum.

In this work, Y2.95R0.05MgAl3SiO12(R = Yb, Y, Dy, Eu, Sm) microwave single-phase dielectric ceramics were successfully prepared via a conventional ceramic sintering technology by doping a series of rare earth elements (Yb, Y, Dy, Eu, Sm) with different ionic radii for the first time. The effects of A-sites occupied by rare earth elements on the microwave dielectric properties of Y2.95R0.05MgAl3SiO12were studied using crystal structure refinement, a scanning electron microscope (SEM), bond valence theory, P-V-L theory, and infrared reflection spectroscopy. It was found that the ionicity of the Y-O bond, the lattice energy, the bond energy, and the bond valance of the Al(Tet)-O bond had important effects on the microwave dielectric properties. Particularly, the optimum microwave dielectric properties,εr= 9.68,Q×f= 68,866 GHz, andτf= −35.8 ppm/°C, were obtained for Y2.95Dy0.05MgAl3SiO12when sintered at 1575 °C for 6 h, displaying its potential for 5G communication. Keywords:garnet;microwave dielectric properties;P–V–L theory;infrared reflection spectroscopy

Thermal stability is a crucial index to assess application value of high-power LEDs, which is related to lattice defects. Herein, an effective structure - engineering strategy is proposed to achieve excellent properties. Under the 394 nm excitation, Cs 3 Zn 5.94 B 9 O 21 :0.06Eu 3+ possesses two characteristic emissions peaked at 591 and 612 nm with limited thermal stability. By introducing Li + ions into the lattice, the sample exhibits high color purity and excellent zero-thermal quenching because the defect contents of the phosphor can be effectively modulated via charge-compensation effect. Then, under the stimulus of high temperature, the corresponding trap levels with a suitable depth ( E = 1.27 eV) will release electrons to recombine with the luminescent centers, compensating for the energy loss. The study provides a meaningful guide for optimizing and designing novel functional photoluminescent materials.

Silver nanoclusters (Ag NCs) are emissive centers that are characteristic of high quantum yield, tunable emission, and large Stokes shift when confined inside zeolites, and their luminescence property is closely related to the cluster size, charge state, local environment, and extra activation. In this research, we evaluated the luminescence response of Ag NCs on the extra-framework cations by considering Na-type FAU-Y (NaY) as the parent zeolite. The extra-framework cations Na+ were partially substituted with Li+ or Ca2+ through the ion-exchange method and analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) measurements, based on which a series of MYAg (M = Na, Li, Ca) zeolites were prepared through subsequent Ag+ exchange and thermal treatment under 600 °C for 2 h. The influence of extra-framework cations on the lattice parameter of the host zeolite, the exchange efficiency of Ag+, the formation ability, and the chemical state and luminescence property of Ag NCs was studied through the combination of structural and spectral measurements. This research indicated a flexible pathway for manipulating the luminescence property of Ag NCs, and the extra-framework cation-dependent luminescence property enables the FAU-Y zeolite to become a desirable host for the stabilization of Ag NCs to achieve highly efficient tunable emission.

The direct synthesis of zeolite Y with high SiO 2 /Al 2 O 3 (SAR > 6.0) and small crystal size is a great challenge. The conventional production of high silica Y usually involves organic template into the synthesis system, which takes high cost. Here, zeolite Y with SAR of 6.15 and small crystal size via introducing Co 2+ in a facile one-step hydrothermal method without organic template was achieved. The SAR increased from 5.2 to 6.15 compared to normal NaY, and the crystal size decreased to 50%. The introduction of Co 2+ in synthesis system affects the formation of 5-coordination intermediate ( M-O -Si )* around Co 2+ during crystallization process which is the critical factor to nucleation. The stability of ( Co–O –Si )* is weaker than that of ( Al–O –Si )*, which leads to the increase of SAR around Co 2+ . The microcrystals of Co(OH) 2 provide adhesive surface for the amorphous material and promote nucleation. The zeolite Y shows good performance in the cracking of 1,3,5-triisopropylbenzene because of larger surface area and more active sites being exposed. This is a new strategy for industrial synthesis of high SiO 2 /Al 2 O 3 and small crystal size zeolite Y.

Conversion of ethanol to high-value alcohols is an attractive approach for developing renewable biofuels, the key is to develop stable and high-efficient catalysts. In this work, based on the preparation strategy of heteroatomic Beta zeolites, a bifunctional Pt-Y/Beta catalyst was prepared by solid-state ion exchange and impregnation. Through characterization techniques such as TEM, NMR and XAS, it was confirmed that the Y species were incorporated into the framework of Beta zeolite by interacting with the silanol groups located at the defect sites, while the Pt species were confirmed to be present on the surface of the zeolite in the form of dispersed nanoparticles . The unique structure form and the favorable spatial proximity of the two metallic active sites lead to a synergistic catalysis, which enable a one-step conversion of ethanol to n-butanol with exceptionally high selectivity of 68 %. In situ DRIFT characterization, ethanol-TPD and relay experiment results show that in the ethanol to n-butanol reaction, the Pt species in Pt-Y/Beta catalyst serves as the active center for the dehydrogenation of ethanol and the hydrogenation of crotonaldehyde and crotyl alcohol, while the Y species is responsible for catalyzing the condensation reaction of acetaldehyde.
