Impact of Boron Nitride on the Thermoelectric Properties and Service Stability of Cu2–xSe

Zihao Lin,Yajing Guo,Jiang Bai,Aijun Hong,Changcun Li,Yanli Wu,Fangfang Kong,Qiang Xiao

Improving the thermoelectric performance and service stability is essential for the effective use of cuprous selenide (Cu2–xSe). In this study, hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) was incorporated into nano-Cu2–xSe, with the goal of enhancing thermoelectric performance and service stability. It was found that Cu2–xSe-0.005 wt % BN showed a higher thermoelectric figure of merit (zT) value (∼1.76 at 923 K), which was 11% greater than that of pure Cu2–xSe, mainly due to a significant reduction in lattice thermal conductivity (kL) to about 50% (0.13 W m–1 K–1). Additionally, the formation of an ion-blocking interface by hexagonal boron nitride effectively shortens the migration path of Cu+ ions, improving service stability while maintaining the contribution of Cu+ transitions to thermal conductivity. Finally, an increase in hardness of ∼11.1% was observed, reaching 0.7 GPa in Cu2–xSe-0.02 wt % BN. This research is a feasible approach to improving the service stability of Cu2–xSe.

Zhipeng Yu,Pengxu Yan,Yilei Sheng,Chengwei Zhang,Zhun Qiao,Qikui Fan,Chuncai Kong,Zhimao Yang

Copper-based materials, renowned for their redox versatility and conductivity, have extensive applications in electrochemical sensing. Herein, we construct stable Cu+/Cu2+interfaces within dual-valence copper nanostructures to achieve enhanced sensitivity in glucose sensing. By employing a hydrolysis method to tune Cu2+/Cu+ratios precisely, we achieved an optimal electrochemical interface with heightened stability and reactivity. The Cu+/Cu2+interface-based flexible electrode demonstrated excellent glucose sensitivity (332.4 µA mmol/L−1cm−2at +0.65 V), wide linear range (up to 10 mmol), a low detection limit of 1.02 nmol/L, and strong selectivity, including detection in human sweat, making this study significant for advanced electrochemical sensors.

Effect of Cu2+ doping on fluorescence of Cs2ZnCl4 powder prepared by solid-state synthesis

Xiumei Dong,Ruikun Pan

Recently Cu-doped all-inorganic zero-dimensional (0D) metal halides Cs 2 ZnX 4 (X = Cl, Br) have attracted many researchers due to their excellent fluorescence (FL) performance and low toxicity compared to lead-based perovskites . Although these 0D metal halides nanocrystals or small-sized single crystals are prepared via solution methods in most of the reports, we used the solid-state synthesis method to get Cu-doped Cs 2 ZnCl 4 powders and characterized their FL properties. The results and analysis indicate that Cu 2+ can be doped in Cs 2 ZnCl 4 up to 12 at.%, which enhances the FL of Cs 2 ZnCl 4 powder. The photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) at 480 nm rises from 1.11 % (undoped) to 20.06 % (6 at.% Cu doping). A modified triplet self-trapped excitons mechanism is presented to explain the enhanced Cu − doped Cs 2 ZnCl 4 powder.

Efficient photocatalytic H2 production and Cr(VI) reduction using a Cu2-xSe/ZnSe heterojunction

Qingguo Yu,Yimin Liu,Qingru Zeng,Yuxiang Yang,Shunyan Ning,Yuezhou Wei,Xinpeng Wang,Deqian Zeng

Photocatalytic technology provides key benefits in utilizing solar energy for H 2 production and pollutant removal, making the pursuit of efficient photocatalysts a vital area of focus. Herein, a novel p-n heterojunction photocatalyst was synthesized by loading ZnSe nanoparticles onto Cu 2−x Se nanoplates, creating an internal electric field that facilitates the efficient separation of charge carriers and significantly enhances photocatalytic activity. The 14 % Cu 2−x Se/ZnSe nanocomposite exhibits excellent photocatalytic performance, achieving an H 2 production rate of 1846 μmol·g −1 ·h −1 , roughly 34 times that of pure ZnSe. Additionally, the Cr(VI) reduction rate constant of nanocomposite was 0.0277 min⁻¹ , which is 20 times and 5 times higher than those of ZnSe and Cu 2−x Se, respectively. The Cu 2−x Se/ZnSe photocatalyst demonstrated exceptional stability and reusability during multiple cycles of H 2 production and Cr(VI) reduction. An in-depth examination of experimental data and density functional theory (DFT) calculations led to proposing a potential mechanism. This work introduces a simple synthesis method for ZnSe-based photocatalysts, offering a novel approach for the effective application of solar energy in environmental and energy fields.

Charge-ordered Cu+/Cu2+ pair regulated highly-selective electroreduction of carbon monoxide to acetate

Siyuan Luo,Haiyuan Zou,Renji Zheng,Shimao Deng,Xuezhen Feng,Wenfei Wei,Ranhao Wang,Ze Li,Wei Xu,Lele Duan,Hong Chen

Selective electrochemical reduction of CO 2 /CO to high-valuable C 2+ products is of great importance to alleviate the global warming and energy crisis problems, while the selective production of C 2 is severely limited by the C C coupling pathway on the catalyst interface. Herein, by employing a Cu + /Cu 2+ charge-ordered metal-organic framework (MOF) material (denoted to be Cu4BHT) as a CO electroreduction catalyst, a high acetate selectivity of 50.3% at 0.7 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) has been achieved. An in-depth mechanism study reveals that the charge-ordered Cu + /Cu 2+ pair on Cu4BHT interface favors the C O bond activation, C C coupling, and proton-coupled electron transfer dynamics, which results in the selective formation of C 2+ products. This work illustrates the critical role of employing charge-ordered Cu + /Cu 2+ catalytic site pair for C C coupling, which paves the way for designing highly selective catalysts to promote the formation of the C 2 products.

Cu2+-mediated telomeric dimeric G-quadruplex DNAzyme for highly sensitive colorimetric detection of deferasirox

Na Li,Xian Li,Xiaoe Ming,Jingyuan Chen,Yeyi Chen,Lifen Zhou,Ruirui Yao,Yuqi Yao

Deferasirox (DEF) is an important iron chelator for treatment of iron overload–related diseases. Monitoring DEF concentration in human serum will provide some valuable information for clinical diagnosis and therapy of such diseases. In this study, we developed a peroxidase-mimicking colorimetric sensor for the detection of DEF by simple assembly of a telomeric dimeric G-quadruplex DNAzyme with Cu 2+ . The DNAzyme–catalyzed oxidation of 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine in the presence of H 2 O 2 can generate a quantitative colorimetric signal, and the color change can be discerned by the naked eye. Compared with the reaction rate of the monomeric G-quadruplex–Cu 2+ DNAzyme, the reaction rate of the dimeric G-quadruplex–Cu 2+ (G2–Cu 2+ ) DNAzyme is significantly accelerated, and the reaction rate gradually increases and then reaches a plateau with increasing number of TTA spacers. Herein, the G2–Cu 2+ DNAzyme is chosen for the highly sensitive detection of DEF based on the DEF–Cu 2+ complex–induced inhibition of its peroxidase-mimicking activities. The limit of detection (LOD) of DEF is achieved as low as 0.03 μM, and the linear range is from 0.05 to 1.2 μM. The proposed strategy exhibits excellent selectivity in the presence of potential interferents, such as metal ions and small molecules. Importantly, the G2–Cu 2+ DNAzyme is further expanded to detect DEF in dispersible tablets and human serum samples. Overall, this G2–Cu 2+ DNAzyme provides a simple, low-cost, and rapid platform for DEF detection. This novel strategy is the first example of DEF analysis by utilizing signal amplification technology based on the G-quadruplex DNAzyme and holds great potential for DEF quality control and therapeutic drug monitoring.

A simple fluorescent assay for thiocyanate based on Cu2+-triggered oxidation of o-phenylenediamine

Tan Yan,Hu Jing,Tang Dongjin,Yu Peng

Thiocyanate (SCN − ) is an anionic contaminant and is a biomarker of environmental cyanide exposure. Therefore, it is particularly necessary to develop a simple, fast and sensitive method for SCN − assay. Herein, a fluorescent assay method was developed to determine SCN − based on Cu 2+ -triggered oxidation of o-phenylenediamine (OPD). Without SCN − , OPD was oxidized by Cu 2+ and the resultant product (i.e., OPD oxide) exhibited a high fluorescence. However, in the presence of SCN − , Cu 2+ reacted with SCN − ; and thus, the oxidation ability of Cu 2+ toward OPD was reduced, resulting in a weak fluorescence. Several important parameters such as the concentrations of Cu 2+ and OPD, pH and the reaction time were optimized. Under the optimized conditions, the linear range was 5–80 μM and the limit of detection was 5 μM for SCN − assay. In addition, the high selectivity and the satisfactory recoveries in tap water and artificial saliva were achieved for SCN − detection due to the strong chelation between SCN − and Cu 2+ . The whole detection process was simple and fast without using complex nanoparticles. More importantly, the developed assay method will have promising applications in monitoring of SCN − for the assessment of water safety and human health. Graphical abstract

Ratiometric fluorescent detection of Cu2+ with carbon dots chelated Eu-based metal-organic frameworks

Juan Hao,Fenfen Liu,Nan Liu,Mulang Zeng,Yonghai Song,Li Wang

Here, a novel fluorescent carbon dots (CDs)@Eu-2, 6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid (DPA) metal organic frameworks (MOFs) was synthesized by encapsulating CDs into the Eu-DPA MOFs for the detection of Cu 2+ . The as-prepared CDs@Eu-DPA MOFs fluorescent probe was investigated by transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy and fluorescence spectroscopy. The results showed the CDs@Eu-DPA MOFs exhibited the uniform ball-flower-like nanostructures and were very stable in aqueous solution due to their nanoscaled size and the ball-flower-like nanostructures. The CDs@Eu-DPA MOFs could emit two kinds of fluorescence which originated from CDs and Eu-DPA MOFs, respectively under a single wavelength excitation at 275   nm. In the presence of Cu 2+ , the fluorescence of Eu-DPA MOFs decreased and the fluorescence of CDs kept constant to result in ratiometric fluorescent response toward Cu 2+ when they were used as the recognition parts and the reference, respectively. The obtained CDs@Eu-DPA MOFs for the detection of Cu 2+ showed a wide linear range (50   nM–10   μM) and a low detection limit (26.3   nM) with high sensitivity, stability and selectivity. The work provides a good method to construct fluorescent sensors based on MOFs.

Rare-earth-free up and down-conversion dual-emission carbon dots for Cu2+ sensing

Yushuang Hong,Zhengpei Nie,Xuelian Tian,Jingfang Sun,Qiuju Zhou,Wenbin Liang,Shihong Chen,Jin Huang,Kejun Tan,Lin Dong

In this work, up- and down-conversion dual-emission CDs without rare-earth (UD D-CDs) were synthesized using RhB and 1,4-Diaminoanthraquinone as precursors. The synthesized UD D-CDs exhibited dual emissions at 496 and 580 nm under 260 and 865 nm excitation, respectively. The fluorescence emission mechanism, including contributions from carbon nuclei, surface states, molecular states, and internal defect states, was discussed through the separation and purification of UD D-CDs. Based on the interaction between UD D-CDs and copper ions (Cu 2+ ), a dual-mode ratio fluorescence probe was developed to detect and quantify Cu 2+ . The up-conversion ratio fluorescent probe shows a linear range of 0.0500–15.0 μM, with a detection limit as low as 2.76 nM. This method has been successfully applied to detecting Cu 2+ in human serum and has potential applications in biochemical analysis and biological imaging. The successful preparation of up-conversion fluorescent carbon dots without rare earth elements and the ability to perform low-damage detection in high-background biological samples provide a new approach to constructing non-rare earth up-conversion probes.

Research on the photoluminescence properties and stability of Cu2+-doped perovskite CsPbCl1.5Br1.5 quantum dots

Maolin Liu,Changqing Lin,Weicheng Ou,Zehui Lu,Jiayi He,Xiaojie Chen,Fengbin Liu,Guoxiao Lin,Guojie Xu,Han Wang,Chunyang Pan

Cu:CsPbCl x Br 3-x quantum dots (QDs) with different Cu-to-Pb molar ratios were synthesized via a solvent-based thermal synthesis method, and highly stable blue-light PCL@Cu:CsPbCl x Br 3-x composite fibers (CFs) were prepared by electrohydrodynamic (EHD) technology. The photoluminescence (PL) properties of these Cu 2+ -doped Cu:CsPbCl x Br 3-x QDs and the stability of polymer encapsulation were investigated in this study. The results showed that with increasing Cu 2+ concentration, the CsPbCl 1.5 Br 1.5 QDs maintained their initial cubic crystal structure. The doping of Cu 2+ ions effectively eliminated the surface defects of CsPbCl 1.5 Br 1.5 QDs, facilitating excitonic recombination through radiative pathways. The PL quantum yield (PLQY) of Cu:CsPbCl 1.5 Br 1.5 QDs increased to 85%. In addition, The fiber encapsulation method effectively improved the stability of the Cu:CsPbCl 1.5 Br 1.5 QDs, After 3 days in water, the fluorescence intensity still remains at the initial 90%. Based on these results, it is believed that Cu:CsPbCl 1.5 Br 1.5 QDs have promising applications in optoelectronic devices in the future.

Rapid screening of glyphosate in environmental water based on Ponceau 4R-Cu2+ competitive complexation

Ming Zhong,Hao Zhang,Yajun Ren,Yuwei Sun,Mingyue Piao,Libin Han,Mingyue Jin,Honghui Teng

Glyphosate, a widely used organophosphorus herbicide in agriculture, poses potential threats to aquatic ecosystems and human health due to its long-term environmental persistence. This study presents a spectroscopic detection system based on a competitive reaction utilizing the Ponceau 4R (P4R)-Cu2+ complex. Leveraging glyphosate's high affinity for chelating copper ions, the method enables indirect, rapid, and visual quantitative analysis of glyphosate. In the presence of glyphosate, Cu2+ preferentially binds to it, causing the release of P4R and the restoration of its characteristic absorption spectrum, resulting in a measurable absorbance change at 505 nm. Systematic optimization of buffer pH, P4R concentration, Cu2+ concentration, and their ratio established the optimal detection conditions (120 μmol L−1 P4R, 120 μmol L−1 Cu2+, 40 mmol L−1 borate buffer, pH 9.0). Under these conditions, the method exhibited a good linear relationship within the concentration range of 5.9–295.8 μmol L−1 (R2 = 0.998). The limit of quantitation (LOQ) and limit of detection (LOD) were determined to be 14.0 μmol L−1 and 4.6 μmol L−1, respectively. This method was successfully applied to the analysis of spiked surface water samples and soils collected from the upper reaches of the Liao River, yielding average recoveries of 98.7–107.6% with relative standard deviations (RSDs) below 5%. Interference tests indicated that citric acid interference was manageable (recovery: 88.9%) when its concentration ratio to glyphosate was ≤2 : 1, while tartaric acid and oxalic acid required masking strategies to suppress their interference. This method, characterized by its simplicity, rapid response, and low instrumental dependence, provides reliable technical support for the rapid screening of glyphosate in environmental samples.
