The rational design of material structures can be an effective approach to enhance the performance of solar-driven clean water production. In this study, a hollow structural nanofibrous membrane was developed by mimicking the hollow structure of polar bear hair using coaxial electrospinning. The shell layer consisted of carbon nanoparticles (C NPs) decorated CuO nanosheets (C@CuO), that exhibited photothermal conversion capacity. Meanwhile, the core layer containing hydrophilic polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) was eliminated to generate the hollow structure. The C NPs enhanced the membrane’s light absorption to increase thermal energy harvesting, while the CuO nanosheets improved the membrane’s wettability enhancing the water supply. Furthermore, the hollow structure limited air convection, prevented heat conduction, and minimized heat radiation, enabling heat localization to be achieved inside the membrane to suppress heat loss during evaporation. For 3.5 wt% saline water and actual dye wastewater, the C@CuO nanofibrous membrane achieved high evaporation rates of 1.36 kg·m −2 ·h −1 and 1.31 kg·m −2 ·h −1 , respectively, under 1 sun illumination. Moreover, even after continuous 6-h evaporation tests, the evaporation rate of the C@CuO membrane remained virtually unchanged, highlighting its long-term stability with regard to salt resistance in real-world applications. Additionally, the remarkable flexibility of the C@CuO membrane offers convenience during operation and guarantees dimensional stability when it is subjected to external stresses. These discoveries should inspire subsequent research on developing delicate architectural materials and exploring their potential applications in various fields, including energy generation, clean water production, and thermal insulation.

In this study, the feasibility of using copper oxide (CuO) as an interface for the coupling of liquid chromatography (LC) and Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy was investigated. CuO exhibits low absorption in the 4000 to 1000 cm −1 FTIR spectral region. In addition, LC-FTIR using CuO as the interface was extended to the analysis of sample mixtures containing benzamide and dioctyl sebacate; both analytes were successfully separated. After complete removal of (he mobile phase, benzamide and dioctyl sebacate were successfully identified from the FTIR spectrum. Surprisingly, the interference from adsorbed water or conventionally used LC solvents in the FTIR spectrum was completely eliminated by using CuO particles as the interface in the off-line hyphenation of LC-FTIR. Based on these results. CuO demonstrates potential as an ideal interface for LC-FTIR analysis.

With the development of technology, microwave absorption technology shows its important position. In this work, A simple salt-template method was used to prepare copper phthalocyanine as N-doped graphene intercalated with CuO (CuO/NC). And a method to controllably regulate the dielectric constant by varying the ratio of salt templates and sintering temperature was proposed. When the treatment temperature is 900 °C and the ratio of salt template to raw material is 100:1, The minimum reflection loss (RL min ) of CuO/NC composite can reach −42.05 dB and the effective absorption bandwidth can reach 6.88 GHz with a thickness of 2.1 mm and a raw material filling of only 2 %, covering the entire Ku band. And the superior performance of the material was confirmed by simulation of the monostatic radar cross section. This research provides a new research direction for the synthesis of lightweight broadband microwave absorbing materials.

Thermite films are typical energetic materials (EMs) and have great value in initiating explosive devices. However, research in thermite film preparation is far behind that of research in thermite powders. Electrophoretic deposition (EPD) is an emerging, rapid coating method for film fabrication, including of energetic composite films. In this work, a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)/Al/CuO organic-inorganic hybrid energetic film was successfully obtained using the above method for the first time. The addition of lithocholic acid as a surfactant into the electroplating suspension enabled PTFE to be charged. The combustion and energy release were analyzed by means of a high-speed camera and differential scanning calorimetery (DSC). It was found that the combustion process and energy release of PTFE/Al/CuO were much better than that of Al/CuO. The main reason for the excellent combustion performance of the hybrid PTFE/Al/CuO system was that the oxidability of PTFE accelerated the redox reaction between Al and CuO. The prepared PTFE/Al/CuO film was also employed as ignition material to fire a B–KNO 3 explosive successfully, indicating considerable potential for use as an ignition material in micro-ignitors. This study sheds light on the preparation of fluoropolymer-containing organic-inorganic hybrid energetic films by one-step electrophoretic deposition.

5CuO/BIO shows rate constants 11.04 and 5.69 times those of CuO and BIO. • The heterojunction accelerates the Cu 2+ /Cu + cycle to efficiently activating persulfate. • LSV demonstrates the electron transfer between the catalyst and PS. • Possible degradation pathways of OTC were inferred using LC-MS and DFT calculations. Persulfate-based advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) are promising for antibiotic degradation, yet efficient and sustainable persulfate (PS) activation remains challenging. Herein, a novel S-scheme heterostructure CuO/BiOIO 3 (CuO/BIO) was synthesized via an in-situ calcination method. Under illumination, the CuO/BIO heterojunction synergistically activated PS, substantially enhancing the photocatalytic degradation of oxytetracycline (OTC). The optimal 5CuO/BIO/PS system achieved an excellent degradation rate constant (k) of 0.0740 min −1 , which is 11.04 and 5.69 times higher than those of CuO/PS and BIO/PS, respectively. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) revealed that the synergistic interaction between CuO and BIO promotes the Cu 2+ /Cu + redox cycle. Photoluminescence (PL) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) demonstrated the superior charge separation capability of the CuO/BIO composite. Linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) confirmed a synergistic effect between photocatalysis and PS activation, which facilitates electron transfer from the catalyst to PS. Additionally, the OTC degradation pathway was elucidated by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) identification of intermediates combined with theoretical calculations. Collectively, this study addresses a research gap in the CuO/BIO photocatalytic synergistic PS system and provides both a theoretical basis and experimental evidence for its application in treating antibiotic-containing wastewater. The development of high-performance, noble-metal-free catalytic films for wastewater remediation is fundamentally constrained by weak interfacial affinity, slow mass transfer kinetics, and inadequate structural stability under harsh reducing conditions. In this study, we present a multiscale interfacial engineering strategy to successfully fabricate catalytic films based on one-dimensional (1D) CuO nanorods decorated with an ultrathin polythiourea (PTU) layer. Through sodium citrate-assisted anisotropic growth, a morphological transition of CuO from 2D nanosheets to 1D nanorods is precisely achieved. The results demonstrate that, owing to their high aspect ratio, the 1D nanorods can form an effective mechanical interlocking network with porous substrates, thereby overcoming the critical adhesion bottleneck associated with catalyst detachment in liquid-phase environments. The film modified with 10 mL of PTU exhibits an optimal reaction time of 18 min for the catalytic reduction of 4-nitrophenol. Two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy is employed to unambiguously elucidate the catalytic kinetic pathway at the molecular sequential level. The hybrid film maintains a conversion rate exceeding 95% over 14 consecutive batch cyclic tests. Postreaction characterization reveals a unique “adaptive in situ reconstruction” mechanism: although the 1D nanorods evolve into a 3D porous nanoparticle network, the robust PTU polymer chains act as flexible binders that firmly anchor the reconstructed active species, ensuring exceptional long-term durability. This study not only provides a scalable paradigm for designing ultrastable catalytic films but also establishes a transformative spectroscopic methodology for probing interfacial dynamic kinetics at the molecular level.

This study investigates the application of a copper oxide/carbon nanotubes/carbon nitride(CuO/CNTs/g-C3N4) composite as electrode material for acetaminophen detection. The synthesized nanomaterials were characterized using scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive spectroscopy, and powder X-ray diffraction. The electrochemical behavior of acetaminophen was assessed via cyclic voltammetry and square wave volammetry methods. The synergistic effects of CuO, g-C3N4 and CNTs enhance electron transfer, facilitating the conversion of irreversible oxidation processes into reversible redox events. The CuO/CNTs/g-C3N4 sensing electrode exhibited a significantly stronger redox peak signal, reflecting improved catalytic performance for acetaminophen detection. The sensor demonstrated a linear detection range of 0.02–0.1 and 1–120 μmol l−1, with a detection limit of 5.89 nmol l−1. The results affirm that the CuO/CNTs/g-C3N4 sensing electrode provides robust reproducibility and stability for the determination of acetaminophen.

Transition metal oxides (TMOs) are drawing multitudinous interest due to their strong thermochemical stability. In the present work, we proposed a facile strategy to fabricate TiO 2 /CuO nanocomposites . By using the conventional open- and closed-aperture Z-scan technology, the eminent nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of the as-prepared TiO 2 /CuO nanocomposites were demonstrated. In order to deeply investigate the NLO enhancement mechanism, we established a theoretical model to study the photogenerated carriers transfer dynamics at the interface with rate equations and the fouth-order Runge-Kutta algorithm. The simulation results indicated that under pumping irradiation, the carriers transferring from CuO to TiO 2 promoted the nonlinear optical absorption of CuO nanosheets and increased the modulation depth. Experimentally, the transient absorption spectroscopy and broadband time-resolved pump-probe measurements were presented to study the role of the carrier dynamics in the broadband near-infrared region. To further confirm the enhanced NLO response in TiO 2 /CuO nanocomposites, a highly stable dissipative soliton mode-locked Yb-doped fiber laser with TiO 2 /CuO saturable absorber was constructed at 1 μm for the first time. Our work manifested the key effects of the interface in TiO 2 /CuO nanocomposites to boost the NLO features which can be applied in ultrafast photonics applications.

Graphical We report an example of the oxidation of furfural to furancarboxylic acid using NaClO as the oxidant, under heterogeneous catalyst and room temperature conditions. This reaction system is rapidly reactive and suitable for the large-scale production. It is of great significance to efficiently produce furancarboxylic acid (FA) by furfural oxidation at room temperature. Here in, based on an available CuO-MnCO 3 bimetallic catalyst, an efficient and sustainable heterogeneous catalyst system in sodium hypochlorite solution was designed to be served for the selective oxidation of furfural to FA. Interestingly, Cu 6 -Mn 4 showed 100 % furfural conversion and quantitative selectivity to FA (96.9 %). Especially, we demonstrate the CuO exhibited main catalytic performance in this experiment. In particular, the introduction of MnCO 3 into Cu-Mn catalyst resulted in an increase reactivity of the lattice oxygen in the catalyst. More importantly, Cu 6 -Mn 4 also showed excellent stability in reusability test. This study provides a simple and rapid catalytic strategy and scientific basis for the development of an efficient and mild aerobic oxidation of furfural.

Membrane fouling and poor flexibility plague membrane technology for further application in water treatment. Herein, we introduce a hierarchical superflexible/superhydrophilic poly (vinylidene fluoride-co-hexa-fluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP)/CuO-nanosheet membrane, which is capable of separating Polystyrene (PS) microspheres (diameter large than 300 nm) with high separation efficiency (higher than 99.89%). Moreover, the resulting membrane maintained 98.10% water flux after 60 min, suggesting excellent anti-fouling property. The anti-fouling property is contributed by the membrane superhydrophilicity, a result of the extreme roughness of CuO-nanosheet and the hydrophilic nature of CuO. Furthermore, the membrane processes outstanding flexibility due to the PVDF-HFP nanofiber backbone, which widens its applicability in practical industrial employment. Therefore, such a membrane with anti-fouling, high separation efficiency, super flexibility, as well as acceptable water flux (2360 ± 50 Lm − 2 h − 1 , 0.3 bar) and good mechanical properties (stress at break 6.65 MPa and elongation at break 67.35%), makes the membrane a good candidate for practical water microfiltration.

Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 ) with unique and versatile properties has gained increasing research concerns. Here, CuO/g-C 3 N 4 nanocomposite is fabricated and employed for gas-phase mercury (Hg 0 ) removal at low temperature. Pure g-C 3 N 4 performs well toward Hg 0 adsorption at 40–200 °C with the optimal Hg 0 removal efficiency of ~ 54.5% at 120 °C. CuO-modification can significantly promote the Hg 0 capture ability of g-C 3 N 4 , probably due to the intimate interface contact of CuO and g-C 3 N 4 . The Hg 0 removal efficiency of g-C 3 N 4 first increases and then decreases with rising temperature, while temperature shows a promotional effect on Hg 0 removal efficiency of CuO/g-C 3 N 4 . Hg 0 is oxidized into HgO by the chemisorbed oxygen originated from the O–C–N structure of g-C 3 N 4 and the lattice oxygen of CuO. g-C 3 N 4 can be efficiently activated by modifying with CuO toward enhanced Hg 0 oxidation ability, presumably attributed to the electron transfer at the interface of CuO and g-C 3 N 4 .

The construction of ordered pore structure and heterostructure interface is considered as an effective strategy to optimize the activity and stability of nano catalysts. Herein, we have elaborately fabricated the p-n heterostructure nanocatalysts of three-dimensionally ordered macroporous (3DOM) Fe 2 O 3 -supported 2D copper oxide nanofilm using a simple impregnation method, abbreviated as 3DOM-Fe 2 O 3 /CuO. The prepared 3DOM Fe 2 O 3 /CuO shows interconnected and ordered macroporous channels, which provide considerable catalytic active sites and enrich the reactive oxygen concentration at the Fe 2 O 3 -CuO heterostructure interface. By adjusting the copper source concentration, 2D copper oxide nanofilm with varied thicknesses was introduced to readily regulate the morphology of the catalyst and the atom composition or electronic structure of the interface. When evaluated as a catalyst for ammonium perchlorate (AP) decomposition reaction, 3DOM-Fe 2 O 3 /CuO-3 testified the most satisfactory catalytic activity, reducing the high temperature decomposition peak of AP decreased by 105.27 °C and the decomposition activation energy (Ea) by 50 %. Based on the experimental results of this study and related theoretical researches, the following mechanisms are proposed: in the thermal decomposition process of AP, the generation of active oxygen is not only related to the active oxygen mechanism, but also may be related to the NO 2 -assisted mechanism.
