Sulfur/oxygen dual-vacancy CuS-S v /NiTiO 3 -O v S-scheme heterojunction was successfully fabricated. • Built-in electric field accelerates electron transfer in sulfur/oxygen-vacancy heterojunction. • Cu centers in CuS-S v accumulate electrons for CO 2 reduction while NiTiO 3 -O v enriches holes in CuS-S v /NiTiO 3 -O v . • Optimized 5% CuS-S v /NiTiO 3 -O v heterojunction exhibits highest CO evolution rate (490 μmol g −1 h −1 ). • Photocatalytic mechanism is proposed for CO 2 reduction. Harnessing solar energy for the photocatalytic CO 2 reduction into valuable fuels presents a sustainability strategy to simultaneously alleviate the global energy crisis and mitigate carbon emission. However, the efficiency of photocatalytic CO 2 reduction is hindered by weak adsorption and sluggish charge separation in semiconductor materials. Herein, a sulfur/oxygen dual-vacancy engineered CuS-S v /NiTiO 3 -O v S-scheme heterojunction is constructed to achieve a remarkable CO production rate of 490.0 μmol g −1 h −1 with 89.1% selectivity. Experimental results reveal that sulfur vacancies probably strengthen CO 2 adsorption and activation, while oxygen defects induced interfacial charge redistribution at the S-scheme heterojunction interface by intensifying the built-in electric field, promoting efficient separation and migration of photogenerated charge carriers. Density functional theory calculations further uncover that sulfur vacancies (S v ) are beneficial to CO 2 adsorption and activation while promoting the stabilization of the key *COOH intermediate, thereby favoring the CO 2 reduction reaction. Moreover, oxygen vacancies (O v ) promote charge redistribution and facilitate charge transfer across the heterojunction interface onto CuS-S v . In-situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy and Gibbs free energy (ΔG) calculations clarify the reaction pathway, showing that the synergistic interaction of sulfur and oxygen vacancies efficiently decreased the energy barrier for *CO formation by reinforcing the interaction between *COOH intermediates and the catalyst surface. This study highlights a synergistic strategy combining defect engineering and S-scheme heterojunction design to achieve highly selective and efficient photocatalytic CO 2 to CO conversion. The deliberate introduction of sulfur/oxygen dual vacancies induces electron redistribution within the CuS-S v /NiTiO 3 -O v S-scheme heterostructure, concentrating electrons Cu sites and localizing charge on Ni. The built-in electric field drives interfacial transfer, enriching Cu centers that enhance C O activation and accelerate key intermediate formation. The immunotherapy played a vital role in the treatment of metastatic tumor. To further enhance the effect of the immunotherapy, the combination of photothermal effect can not only eradicate the tumor cells by hyperthermia, but also improved the antigen release in vivo to achieve enhanced immune responses. In this study, a core-shell structured nanocomplex was developed by loading of ovalbumin (OVA) and copper sulfide nanoparticles (CuS-NPs) into the poly(lactide-co-glycolide acid) nanoparticles (PLGA-NPs). The CuS-NPs exhibited favorable photothermal effect, which significantly kill the 4T1 tumor cells in vitro . The photothermal effect of the CuS-NPs accelerated the OVA release, which led to higher levels of IL-6, IL-12 and TNF-α, and activation of CD8 + T cells. Both of the OVA-PLGA-NPs and CuS-NPs with NIR light irradiation contributed inhibited primary tumor while the growth of the distant tumors was not hindered. The irradiated [email protected] exhibited a minimal primary tumor because of the combined effect of photothermal therapy and immunotherapy. Moreover, the irradiated [email protected] showed the most extensive distribution of CD8 + T cells in the primary and distant tumor, which blocked the rise of the distant tumor. In conclusion, the [email protected] presented as a promising strategy for metastatic tumor therapy.

The development of high-performance anode materials remains a critical challenge for advancing aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs). While conversion-type CuS anodes demonstrate superior capacity through multi-electron redox reactions, they are hindered by sluggish Zn 2+ kinetics and structural degradation. Herein, we propose a porous P-doped CuS/carbon nanotube composite (P-CuS/CNTs) engineered through a one-step hydrothermal strategy to address these limitations. The dual-functional design combines atomic-scale phosphorus doping with three-dimensional CNTs scaffolding, creating synergistic effects including: facilitating partial Zn 2+ desolvation via P C bond formation; establishing rapid ion/electron transport pathways and buffering volume changes through mechanical reinforcement of CNTs. The optimized P-CuS/CNTs anode delivers exceptional electrochemical performance, achieving a high specific capacity of 258 mAh g −1 at 1 A g −1 and retaining 128 mAh g −1 after 1000 cycles at 10 A g −1 with 98.2 % capacity retention. When paired with MnO 2 @CNTs cathodes, the full cell maintains 74 mAh g −1 after 170 cycles. This work provides fundamental insights into the desolvation-enhanced conversion mechanism while demonstrating a viable material design strategy for stable Zn-ion storage systems.

Bacterial-infected wounds pose a clinical challenge requiring innovative strategies integrating precise antibacterial action and microenvironment reprogramming. To address this, a multifunctional H-CuS NPs@epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG)/chitosan (CS)/3-formylphenylboronic acid (3-FPBA) hydrogel (H-CuS@EGCG HY) was engineered. This hydrogel exhibits injectability, self-healing, tissue adhesion, and pH-responsive behavior. During the initial phase of wound infection (weakly acidic microenvironment), this network undergoes controlled dissociation, enabling on-demand localized release of EGCG and Cu 1+/2+ . Under near-infrared (NIR) irradiation, the photothermal effect of H-CuS NPs promotes mild heating, which enhances EGCG/Cu 1+/2+ release and penetration. The released Cu 1+/2+ further catalyzes •OH generation from H 2 O 2 via Fenton reaction, synergizing with EGCG and photothermal therapy to improve antibacterial efficacy. Additionally, EGCG scavenges excess radicals, reducing oxidative stress and inflammation, while Cu 1+/2+ supports angiogenesis via VEGF regulation-collectively reprogramming the wound microenvironment. In vitro tests showed broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity with a 99 % eradication rate. In S. aureus -infected mouse models, compared to the control group, the H-CuS@EGCG HY + NIR group significantly reduced the levels of inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α), promoted the expression of CD31 and CD206, and effectively modulated the wound microenvironment, ultimately resulting in complete wound closure (100 %) by day 13, accompanied by full epidermal regeneration and minimal scarring. This study provides a promising strategy for the treatment of clinical wounds.

The unique two-dimensional layered structure and notable theoretical specific capacity of molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) make it highly competitive anode materials for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). However, its practical utility is hampered by sluggish Na + /electron transport kinetics and substantial volume changes. Herein, the successful synthesis of an ultrafine MoS 2 /CuS heterostructure embedded in a P-doped carbon framework (MoS 2 /CuS@C) is achieved via sulfurization of an octahedral bimetallic Mo/Cu-metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) precursor. The rationale for achieving superior electrochemical performance hinges on an ingenious design: the leverage of p-n heterojunctions within the carbon framework. The p-n heterojunction of ultrafine MoS 2 /CuS can powerfully drive Na + /electron transfer, thus enhancing the reaction kinetics. Concurrently, the uniform confinement of this heterostructure within the MOFs-derived carbon framework not only supplies the mechanical robustness to withstand volume variation but also creates a highly conductive network to boost overall conductivity. Hence, the MoS 2 /CuS@C anode for SIBs exhibits exceptional cycling stability, demonstrating a capacity of 528 mAh g −1 through 3000 prolonged cycles at 10 A g −1 . Furthermore, the MoS 2 /CuS@C//Na 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 3 full cell achieves a well-maintained capacity of 44.6 mAh g −1 over 500 cycles. This work establishes a design blueprint aimed at developing efficient anodes.

In this work, novel CuS/g-C 3 N 4 composite photocatalysts were successfully prepared via a simple in-situ growth method. CuS nanoparticles , with an average diameter of ca.10 nm, were well dispersed on the surface of g-C 3 N 4 , revealing that g-C 3 N 4 nanosheets were promising support for in-situ growth of nanosize materials. The CuS/g-C 3 N 4 composites exhibited highly enhanced visible light photocatalytic H 2 evolution from water-splitting compared to pure g-C 3 N 4 . The optimum photocatalytic activity of 2 wt% CuS/g-C 3 N 4 composite photocatalytic H 2 evolution was about 13.76 times higher than pure g-C 3 N 4 . The enhanced photocatalytic activity is attributed to the interfacial charge transfer (IFCT). In this system, electrons in the valence band (VB) of g-C 3 N 4 can transfer directly to CuS clusters, causing the reduction of partial CuS to Cu 2 S, which can act as an electron sink and co-catalyst to promote the separation and transfer of photo-generated electrons. The accumulated photoinduced electrons in CuS/Cu 2 S clusters could effectively reduce H + to produce H 2 . This work provides a possibility for constructing low-cost CuS as a substitute for noble metals in the photocatalytic production of H 2 via a facile method based on g-C 3 N 4 .

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) efficiency is directly affected by the reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated by photosensitizers. However, ROSs' ultrashort life span and limited diffusion distance restrict the PDT efficiency. Therefore, it is important to control the delivery strategy of photosensitizers for PDT treatment. Herein, the core-satellite nanoreactors were fabricated with oxygen generation and ROS diffusion properties. The hollow CuS encapsulating horseradish peroxidase (HRP) was combined with the cationic photosensitizers (PEI-Ce6). The unique photosensitizers delivery strategy makes the nanoreactors achieve ROS diffusion-enhanced PDT effect. First, HRP in “core” (HRP@CuS) can decompose hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) to O 2 , increasing O 2 levels on the surface of the nanoreactor. Second, the Ce6 molecules covalent-linked with PEI are uniformly dispersed on the surface of CuS as a “satellite”, avoiding Ce6 aggregation and causing more Ce6 molecules be activated to produce more 1 O 2 . Due to the Ce6 was on the surface of the CuS nanocages, the generated ROS may ensure a larger diffusion range. Meanwhile, the inherently CuS nanocages exhibit photothermal and photoacoustic (PA) effect. The photothermal effect further enhances the ROS diffusion. Under the guidance of PA imaging, nanoreactors exhibit highly efficient hypoxic tumor ablation via photodynamic and photothermal effect. Overall, the core-satellite nanoreactors provide an effective strategy for tumor therapy, further promoting the research of photosensitizers delivery.

Nanoparticle flexibility is an important parameter in determining cell uptake and tumor accumulation, thus modulating therapeutic efficiency in cancer treatment. Herein, we successfully prepared CuS-embedded human serum albumin hollow nanocapsules (denoted CuS/HSA) by a hard-core-assisted layer-by-layer coating approach. This approach afforded CuS/HSA hollow nanocapsules with controllable shell thickness, tunable flexibility, uniform size (272.9 nm), a large hollow cavity, peroxidase-like activity, excellent photothermal conversion ability, and a high tetra-(4-aminophenyl) porphyrin (TAPP) loading capacity (27.3 wt%). The peroxidase-like activity of the CuS nanoparticles enabled them to overcome tumor hypoxia and augment the sonodynamic therapeutic (SDT) effects and photothermal conversion ability for photothermal therapy (PTT). In vitro experiments showed that the CuS/HSA-TAPP hollow nanocapsules efficiently induced cancer cell apoptosis under US irradiation and cancer cell ablation under laser irradiation, thus facilitating synergistic SDT and PTT. Importantly, the flexibility of the CuS/HSA hollow nanocapsules resulted in significantly enhanced cellular internalization and a longer mean residence time (131.3 h) than their solid counterparts (21.0 h). In a breast tumor model, the flexible CuS/HSA hollow nanocapsules exhibited high tumor accumulation of up to 27.1%. In vivo experiments demonstrated that the flexible CuS/HSA-TAPP hollow nanocapsules effectively eliminated breast tumors via the synergistic effect of SDT and PTT.

As a promising method, coupled advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) based on the photocatalytic and peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation has attracted extensive attention to degrade organic pollutants . Therefore, heterogeneous photosensitive PMS activators with high activity and excellent stability played a crucial role in this process need to be developed. In this study, magnetic NiFe 2 O 4 /CuS composite powder was successfully synthesized based on a simple solvothermal method combined with co-precipitation method, which was applied in the catalytic degradation process of lomefloxacin (LOM). The mass ratio of ingredients was optimized, while the physical and chemical properties of as-prepared samples were analyzed though a series of characterizations. In addition, under the illumination of simulated sunlight, 88.1% of LOM could be eliminated over 40 min with the addition of 0.8 g L −1 PMS and 0.6 g L −1 NiFe 2 O 4 /CuS (1:5) at pH 5.86 (unadjusted). Radical scavenging experiments and EPR test analysis were carried out to prove the contribution of different active species in the degradation process. Besides, the possible degradation mechanism was proposed. The intermediate products produced during the degradation of LOM were detected by the high-performance liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (HPLC/MS), and the possible degradation pathways were deduced. Finally, the recyclability of NiFe 2 O 4 /CuS and the stability of the new degradation system were elucidated.

Constructing antibacterial and antioxidant hydrogels is critical for treating infected full-thickness skin wounds. Herein, we report a co-encapsulation strategy to load CuS nanoparticles and hydrophobic antioxidant curcumin (cur) in aldehyde-terminated F127 micelles, which are then cross-linked with carboxymethyl chitosan through a Schiff base reaction to form a functional composite hydrogel (CF–CuS–cur). Apart from its suitable swelling and degradation behavior, good biocompatibility, and injectability for treating irregular wounds, the CF–CuS–cur hydrogel displayed excellent photothermal antibacterial ability under 1064 nm NIR laser irradiation, and antioxidant activity to protect cells from excessive oxidative stress. Using a full-thickness infected wound model, we demonstrated that the CF–CuS–cur hydrogel accelerated the wound healing process by effective sterilization and decreased inflammation, under synergistic action from CuS, curcumin and NIR irradiation. Histological and immunohistochemistry analysis further revealed the promoted skin attachments and regeneration, collagen deposition, neovascularization, and early transition to anti-inflammatory M2 macrophages, when the wounds were treated with the CF–CuS–cur hydrogel. This work demonstrates a facile strategy to construct functional hydrogels with NIR-enhanced antibacterial and antioxidant properties, which can be potentially applied as wound dressings for treating chronic wounds.

The electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide into energy-carrying compounds or value-added chemicals is of great significance for diminishing the greenhouse effect. However, it is still imperative to replace the less-value anodic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) to improve the technical economy. Herein, we firstly reported a bifunctional CuS/TiO 2 catalyst for both anodic methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) and cathodic carbon dioxide reduction (CO 2 R). The in-built abundant CuS/TiO 2 heterointerfaces are found to boost the CO 2 R and MOR to produce formate. Based on the unique bifunctionality of CuS/TiO 2 , a paired electrosynthesis of formate was performed with a total Faradaic efficiency (FE) of about 170 %, in which the cathodic CO 2 R achieved a formate FE of about 70 %, and the anodic MOR exhibited an almost 100 % formate FE.

Modifying the electronic structure of electrocatalysts by metal doping is favorable to their electrocatalytic activity. Herein, by a facile one-pot redox process of Fe(III) and Cu(I), Fe(II) was successfully doped into the subsurface of CuS nanosheets (NSs) for the first time to obtain a novel electrocatalyst (Fesub-CuS NSs) that possesses not only subtle lattice defects but also an atomic-level coupled nanointerface, greatly enhancing the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) performances. Meanwhile, Fe(II) and Fe(III) coexisting in Fesub-CuS nanosheets are favorable to OER through valence regulation. As expected, by simultaneously controlling the abovementioned three factors to optimize Fesub-CuS nanosheets, they display a lower overpotential of 252 mV at a current density of 20 mA cm–2 for OER, better than 389 mV for pristine CuS nanosheets. This discovery furnishes low-cost and efficient Cu-based electrocatalysts by metal doping. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations further verify that Fesub-CuS(100) is thermodynamically stable and is more active for OER. This research provides a strategy for the atomic-scale engineering of nanocatalysts and also sheds light on the design of novel and efficient electrocatalysts.
