This work reported on boron-, fluorine-, and nitrogen-co-doped carbon dots (B/F/N-CDs) produced via a straightforward one-step hydrothermal process, followed by a detailed characterization of their properties. The B/F/N-CDs exhibited bright visible fluorescence, which was rapidly quenched by doxycycline (DOX) through a dynamic quenching mechanism. A fluorescent sensing platform for doxycycline was established, showing good linearity within the concentration range of 0.138–0.421 mM. Satisfactory recoveries (97.79-102.77%) and low relative standard deviations (RSD ≤ 4.45%) were achieved in spiked water samples, demonstrating reliable practical applicability. Moreover, when incorporated into poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) films, the B/F/N-CDs reduced the second after-flame time in vertical burning tests from 9.5 s to 5.2 s, indicating improved flame-resistant performance. The results confirm that heteroatom co-doping was a viable tactic for producing multifunctional carbon dots capable of serving dual application roles.

Balancing large birefringence with ultraviolet (UV) transparency remains a central challenge in the development of birefringent crystals. Herein, we report two Sb(III)-based hypophosphites, Sb(H2PO2)2Cl and Sb(H2PO2)2F, and comparatively investigate their crystal structures and optical properties. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis shows that Sb(H2PO2)2Cl crystallizes in a wave-like two-dimensional (2D) layered structure, whereas Sb(H2PO2)2F adopts a 1D chain structure. Optical measurements reveal that Sb(H2PO2)2F exhibits a markedly enhanced birefringence of 0.205 at 546 nm, compared with 0.055 for Sb(H2PO2)2Cl, in good agreement with DFT-calculated values of 0.211 and 0.041, respectively. Meanwhile, Sb(H2PO2)2F retains a wide band gap of 4.81 eV and a short UV cutoff edge of 258 nm, indicating a favorable balance between optical anisotropy and UV transparency. Further structure–property analysis suggests that the enhanced birefringence of the fluoride is closely associated with the more favorable orientational efficiency of the stereochemically active lone pair on Sb3+. These results demonstrate that halogen substitution is an effective approach for tuning optical anisotropy in UV-transparent Sb(III)-based hypophosphites.

The lower thermodynamic potential of the urea oxidation reaction (UOR) makes it an ideal alternative to the conventional oxygen evolution reaction (OER). However, most Ni-based UOR catalysts face intrinsic limitations due to the high oxidation potential of Ni3+, coupled with insufficient selectivity. Herein, F/Mo codoped Ni-based catalyst F-MoNiP is obtained with an amorphous nanotube structure. The F/Mo codoped strategy enhances UOR activity by facilitating the formation of catalytically active NiOOH species at low overpotential and simultaneously promotes urea decomposition through the environmentally preferred carbonate pathway. Moreover, the presence of F effectively suppresses the OH– adsorption, thereby minimizing the competition with OER. This synergistic optimization enables F-MoNiP to achieve exceptional catalytic performance, operating at a cell voltage of 1.395 V to deliver a current density of 10 mA cm–2 in urea-assisted electrolysis of water. These findings offer a sustainable and energy-efficient route for hydrogen production through urea electrolysis.

N,F co-doped porous carbon materials were synthesized from waste tea leaves via a facile pyrolysis approach. • Highly dispersed Fe species and abundant Fe-N x active sites enhanced electrocatalytic activity toward caffeic acid. • The Fe/N,F-TC-0.25/GCE sensor exhibited a wide detection range (0.05–100 μM) and a low detection limit of 0.014 μM. • Synergistic effects of porous carbon structure and Fe-N x sites improved electron transfer and sensing performance. • The sensor reliably caffeic acid in tablet and blueberry samples, confirming practical applicability. Caffeic acid (CA), a phenolic compound widely present in natural foods, exhibits multiple pharmacological activities and plays an important role in regulating food quality. However, its dose-dependent biotoxicity and the demand for accurate determination in complex matrices pose significant challenges to analytical techniques. In this study, waste tea leaves were employed as a biomass-derived carbon source naturally containing elements such as N and F. Through Fe 3+ pre-complexation followed by pyrolysis, N,F co-doped porous carbon modified with highly dispersed Fe species was obtained. Under optimized conditions, the constructed Fe/N,F-TC-modified glassy carbon electrode (Fe/N,F-TC/GCE) electrochemical sensor exhibited excellent performance for CA detection. This superior performance can be mainly attributed to the porous structure of N,F-TC, which facilitates CA mass transfer and enhances reaction efficiency. Meanwhile, the high density of Fe-N active sites provides abundant catalytically active centers. Their synergistic catalytic effect significantly amplifies the redox signal of CA, thereby improving the electrocatalytic activity. The Fe/N,F-TC-0.25/GCE electrode showed a good linear response in the range of 0.4–7 μM and an overall working range over 0.05–100 μM. The statistically estimated limit of detection (LOD) was as low as 0.014 μM. Moreover, the sensor was successfully applied to the spiked detection of CA in tablet and blueberry samples, with recoveries close to 100%, demonstrating the excellent analytical performance of this method and its applicability to real-sample analysis. This study provides a simple, environmentally friendly, efficient, and sensitive detection strategy for CA related food quality control and pharmaceutical analysis, highlighting both theoretical significance and practical application potential. A Fe-containing N,F co-doped porous carbon (Fe/N,F-TC) was constructed from waste tea leaves through Fe 3+ pre-coordination followed by pyrolysis. The hierarchical porous framework, highly dispersed Fe species, and Fe-N x sites facilitate CA mass transport and electrocatalytic oxidation, markedly enhancing the electrochemical sensing performance toward caffeic acid. P2-type layered oxides have emerged as promising cathode candidate materials for potassium-ion batteries. Nevertheless, unsatisfactory cycling stability hinders their practical application, chiefly arising from deleterious phase transitions and the Jahn–Teller distortion of Mn3+. Herein, an anion-doping strategy where F− is incorporated into P2-K0.6Zn0.1Ti0.05Al0.05Mn0.8O2 (KTMO) cathode materials is proposed. Raman spectroscopy was employed to investigate the local chemical environment of these materials. The results revealed a slight shift to higher wavenumbers in the Eg and A1g peaks, which was ascribed to the shortening of the average TM–O bond length triggered by the addition of F. Ex situ XRD analysis revealed that the material K0.6Zn0.1Ti0.05Al0.05Mn0.8O1.93F0.07 effectively suppresses undesirable phase transitions. Moreover, the maximum variation in the lattice parameter c is only 2.2% during potassium insertion/extraction, which fully demonstrates the outstanding performance of this material in terms of structural stability. This strategy brings about excellent cycling stability with a reversible capacity of 131.8 mA h g−1 and capacity retention of 76.8% after 100 cycles, within a voltage range of 2.0–4.0 V. These findings offer novel insights into the design of cathode materials possessing optimized structures and enhanced performance for potassium-ion batteries.

MgSiO 3 ceramics hold promise for millimeter-wave applications owing to their low relative permittivity and cost-effectiveness, but their performance is limited by polymorphism and phase transitions. To mitigate these challenges, we strategically introduced Ge 4 + ions to stabilize the orthoenstatite (OEN) phase and prepared MgSi 1- x Ge x O 3 ceramics via a solid-state method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman spectroscopy confirmed a phase transition from clinoenstatite (CEN) to OEN with increasing Ge 4+ concentration, resulting in a predominantly OEN phase at x ≥ 0.15. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) revealed that Ge 4+ influenced grain size, uniformity and density. The relative permittivity ε r increased from 6.07 ± 0.11–7.10 ± 0.09 with increasing x , while the temperature coefficient τ f decreased monotonically. Optimal Q × f values of 140,000 ± 11,000 GHz at 13.1 GHz and 216,880 ± 12,840 GHz at 24.4 GHz were achieved at x = 0.15. After one year, the microwave dielectric properties remained robust, underscoring the potential of MgSiO 3 for practical millimeter-wave applications.

Plants have evolved intricate strategies to cope with various abiotic stresses. Ubiquitin-mediated protein degradation plays a key role in plant development as well as abiotic stress tolerance. In this study, we identify LAO1, an F-box protein with unknown function, as a negative regulator of plant fitness during nitrogen starvation. DOMINANT SUPPRESSOR OF KAR 2 (DSK2) interacts with and mediates the autophagic degradation of LAO1 protein during nitrogen starvation. The loss of LAO1 improves the fitness of an autophagy-deficient mutant, atg5-1, under nitrogen starvation. Intriguingly, mutations in DSK2 facilitate rather than reduce plant growth after nitrogen starvation. This unexpected effect of DSK2 knockout led us to discover that DSK2 also interacts with and degrades a group of class I TCP transcription factors. Phenotypic observations demonstrate that class I TCPs are crucial for plant adaptation to nitrogen starvation. Moreover, genetic analyses indicate that class I TCPs function downstream of LAO1 and counteract its negative effects. Collectively, our findings unveil a previously undescribed regulatory network governing plant fitness during nitrogen starvation.

Epoxy resin is one of the most important matrix materials in the field of high performance composites. Its mechanical strength, toughness, and thermal stability are very important to the properties of composites. In this paper, the improvement of epoxy resin properties by carbon nanotubes (CNTs) is mainly studied. First, aniline trimer (AT) and polyethylene glycol octyl phenyl ether (Triton X-100) are combined to modify CNTs. Then the dispersed CNTs (treated-CNTs) are used to prepare bisphenol F epoxy nanocomposites. The dispersion of CNTs and fracture surface of composites are analyzed by SEM and TEM. The combination of AT and Triton X-100 with CNTs is analyzed by UV–vis and FTIR. The mechanical, thermodynamic, tribological properties, and crosslinking density changes of epoxy composites are evaluated. The results show that AT and Triton X-100 are successfully bonded to the surface of CNTs. The dispersion effect of treated-CNTs in the composites is better than that of the original CNTs, which have a better reinforcing and toughening effect on the composites. The introduction of treated-CNT reduces the crosslinking density and glass transition temperature of the composites, but does not affect the thermal stability of the composites before 300°C.

La 3+ and F − co-doped Li 4 Ti 5 O 12 (LTO) anode materials are synthesized successfully via a solid state reaction. The structure and morphology are characterized by XRD , SEM and EDS . The results indicate that La 3+ and F − ions were uniformly dispersed in Li 4 Ti 5 O 12 lattice without changing the structure and morphology of Li 4 Ti 5 O 12 . Li 3.95 La 0.05 Ti 5 O 11.7 F 0.3 (La005-F03) exhibits an outstanding electrochemical performance among all the samples in a potential range from 0.5 to 2.5 V, and delivers a discharge capacity of 103 mAh g −1 at 10C rate, whereas the LTO only gives 62.5 mAh g −1 . The sample La005-F03 retains a discharge capacity of 170.1 mAh g −1 after 100 cycles at 1C rate. The improved electrochemical performance could be attributed to the appropriate co-doping with La 3+ and F − , which can increase the amount of Ti 3+ /Ti 4+ mixing as charge compensation, leading to the decrease of the charge transfer resistance and improvement of the electronic conductivity and lithium ion diffusion coefficient .

Zn 2 + and F − ions are successfully used to modify pure Li 4 Ti 5 O 1 2 via a co-precipitation method followed by calcination at 400 ∘ C for 5 h in an Ar atmosphere in order to further investigate the reaction mechanism of the fluoride modification process. Zn 2 + and F − co-modified Li 4 Ti 5 O 1 2 samples are characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and electrochemical measurements. After the modification process, no ZnF 2 coating layer is formed on the surface of Li 4 Ti 5 O 1 2 , instead, F − ions react with Li 4 Ti 5 O 1 2 to generate a new phase, composed of a small amount of anatase TiO 2 , rutile TiO 2 , LiF, and Zn 2 + ions are suspected to form a ZnO coating layer on Li 4 Ti 5 O 1 2 particles. The electrolyte reduction decomposition is suppressed in Zn 2 + and F − co-modified Li 4 Ti 5 O 1 2 due to the ZnO coating layer. 1 wt.% Zn 2 + and F − co-modified Li 4 Ti 5 O 1 2 exhibits the best rate capability, which leads to a charge capacity of 236.7, 227.8, 222.1, 202.7, 188.9 and 150.7 mAh g − 1 at 0.2C, 0.5C, 1C, 3C, 5C and 10C, respectively, between 0 V and 3 V. Furthermore, 1 wt.% Zn 2 + and F − co-modified Li 4 Ti 5 O 1 2 exhibits 96.0% charge capacity retention at 3C rate after 200 cycles, which is significantly higher than that of pure Li 4 Ti 5 O 1 2 (78.4%).

In this work, a series of Na (1- x ) Ca (1+ x ) Ga (1+ x ) Si (2- x ) O 7 (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.9) ceramics were successfully prepared via the conventional solid-state reaction method, achieved the synergistic substitution of Ca 2+ for Na + and Ga 3+ for Si 4+ in NaCaGaSi 2 O 7 ceramic. The crystal structure evolution, microwave dielectric properties, and structure-performance relationships of the Na (1- x ) Ca (1+ x ) Ga (1+ x ) Si (2- x ) O 7 ceramics were systematically characterized by multiple analytical techniques including XRD Rietveld refinement, XPS, far-infrared spectroscopy, and first-principles calculations. The synergistic dual-ion substitution effectively optimized the microstructure of NaCaGaSi 2 O 7 -based ceramics, suppressed the formation of oxygen vacancy defects, and modulated the chemical bonding characteristics, thereby significantly improving the comprehensive microwave dielectric performances. Notably, the Na (1- x ) Ca (1+ x ) Ga (1+ x ) Si (2- x ) O 7 ( x = 0.7) ceramic achieved excellent comprehensive properties: ε r = 9.01, a high Q×f value of 31049 GHz, and a small negative τ f value of −13.36 ppm/°C. Furthermore, a high-gain dielectric patch antenna fabricated using the optimized ceramic substrate achieved a peak gain of 10.66 dBi and a maximum radiation efficiency of 85.68% at 13.63 GHz, verifying the great application potential of Na (1- x ) Ca (1+ x ) Ga (1+ x ) Si (2- x ) O 7 ceramics for Ku-band communication applications.

Aptamer-based sensors (aptasensors) have been extensively employed in biosensing and diagnostics. However, the broader application of aptasensors fabricated with DNA and RNA aptamers has been limited due to the intolerance of DNA and RNA to nucleases in biological fluids. A majority of sugar-modified nucleic acids, in particular 2’-F and 2’-OMe-modified nucleic acids, demonstrate a remarkable resistance to nuclease degradation and thus hold great potential in the development of more stable aptamers and aptasensors. In this work, employing enzymes including a laboratory-evolved polymerase for 2’-modified nucleic acids, we carried out systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment (SELEX) experiments to obtain 2’-F/OMe-RNA aptamers for Bacillus cereus 5/B/6 metallo-β-lactamase (B. cereus 5/B/6 MBL), a crucial marker of many penicillin-resistant strains. Three aptamers composed of 2’-OMe-A, 2’-F-U, 2’-F-C, and 2’-OMe-G nucleotides (Apt-FUC1, Apt-FUC2, and Apt-FUC3) have been obtained and systematically characterized. All of them exhibited excellent target binding affinities, with equilibrium dissociation constant (Kd ) values of 95.9, 70.0, and 81.3 nM, and outstanding biological stability. Combining FAM-labeled Apt-FUC1, Apt-FUC2, and Apt-FUC3 with graphene oxide (GO), which could quench the fluorescence of FAM, we successfully constructed three sensitive and biologically stable 2’-F/OMe-RNA aptasensors for B. cereus 5/B/6 MBL, with the limit of detection (LOD) values of 0.38, 0.27, and 0.29 nM. Moreover, these three aptasensors all demonstrated good specificity for target detection in biological samples. This work has established a streamlined strategy for generating stable 2’-F/OMe-RNA aptamers and aptasensors, which should broaden the application of sugar-modified nucleic acids in biosensing and diagnostics.
